We visited this pub today and I have to say it was the best food we have had in any local pub to date. I highly recommend.

If I could give 6 stars I would, we booked for Sunday afternoon for 21 of us, the food was great as were the staff, everything went like clockwork and the weather was perfect. If you are looking for a meal for 2 or 20 and anything in between then you won't do better than here

A pretty historic pub serving very good food and beer (Harveys on tap). They kindly accommodated out large family group in the garden on short notice for Sunday lunch. We were really impressed by the variety of menu options and the brilliant home cooked food. The staff were friendly and helpful. The garden was great for the kids to run around in. No separate kids menu, instead they adapted the menu as we asked with kids sized portions.

Delighted to return to the Chequers for a evening celebration dinner. From the kind and efficient service, to the delicious meals, everything was perfect. Nice pub / restaurant that we visit occasionally and enjoy. Unfortunately on this visit, although there was plenty of staff the service was poor, had to repeatable ask for our drinks etc

Fantastic food and excellent staff. The food is of such good quality it would be difficult to class it as pub grub. Everything we ate was fantastic, prawns in garlic, squid, fresh pork chops, leek tart. Wonderful, would highly recommend if you’re looking for a great small restaurant to go to with friends just outside of Horsham.

Lovely starters. Good Roast dinners, the burger was a little dry and overdone.

Quintessential English country pub but with five star food. Not the most extensive menu but imaginative, wonderfully presented and cooked to perfection. Good sized portions too Not cheap but excellent value for money.

We went to The Chequers with an old school Horsham lunch club, The HOGS! Superb meal! The Liver and bacon is a thing of beauty. Very attentive staff and everything you expect from a very foody pub! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Had seen good reviews so booked for our anniversary and it did not disappoint! Great value for money. 4 of us had 3 courses plus drinks and we enjoyed every dish. Looking forward to returning soon.

Good food; beautifully presented. Value for money. Continuity could be improved with one server per table. Change of lighting in restaurant area may improve ambience. Will return.

A rural jewel, an unassuming exterior hiding a warm and friendly atmosphere and superb food. Highly recommend for Sunday lunch.

Planned to come here after a day with my friend and was very disappointed to find out that upon arrival it was shut even tho we double checked the opening times online - really disappointing.

Popped in on spec in the week before Christmas, so pretty busy on the but we were found a table ( just the two of us) and told we might have to wait a while as they were so busy, but drinks came quickly, food order taken quickly too and with hardly enough time to quaff the first pint, there was the food order! Beautifully presented and just the right amount too. Hence we were able to accommodate a pudding (&, for me, a second pint) We were made to feel really welcome. We will return!

Great Xmas roast in the menu so we all had that. Full of flavour and plenty to eat on the plate. Puddings equally yummy! A wonderful meal from attentive staff.

Super friendly greeting on arrival ambiance is perfect , service is superb , food Wow ! Truffle infused risotto as a starter ! Calves liver as a main all superb 👌 Only thing I disliked was leaving !!!!

Stopped off for Sunday lunch. Was not disappointed. Perfectly cooked beef, accompanied by a generous assortment of veg. Gravy was a little bit too runny, but overall very enjoyable. Service was friendly and efficient.

Went with our son and his fiancée for a celebratory engagement meal. A superb experience from start to finish. Staff courteous and attentive throughout with the food top notch. Cannot recommend highly enough, very lucky to have such a venue so close.

We stayed here for one night bed and breakfast. Kevin served us breakfast and he was very cheerful and helpful. The food was good quality and delicious.

Lovely place first time but will be back. A lovely roast. With no sides or extras needed. Just excellent food.

This is supposed to be a long term Michelin Standard gastro pub (unlike The Greets Inn in Warnham that Michelin suddenly delisted) but after arriving for a booked 8.30pm Saturday evening meal slot for 2 people they refused to let us order any desert (even a cold one like ice cream or sorbet) at 10.10pm on the basis the kitchen was now closed but without telling us it was closing and giving us the chance to order a desert. My 74 year old friend, who was miraculously resuscitated from a total cardiac arrest in Woking Town Centre two and a half years ago, was a little slow eating his starter and main course due to his medical issues but this behaviour was typical bad behaviour of staff who don't respect their customers and are obsessed with going home at exactly 11pm. While such disrespectful behaviour is sadly commonplace in many British pubs one absolutely does not expect it a Michelin listed pub. The food we ate was absolutely fine and the service reasonable but not outstanding until we were refused desert but this behaviour by the staff (presumably in the absence of the proprietor) absolutely deserves the 1 star rating I am giving them for this visit to the pub.......

Lovely atmosphere with a traditional pub feel. Great service and flexible with difficult food requests from some of our group. Food was simple but delicious. A real winning combination and amazing value. Thank you, and will be back.

The food was good - as usual. But they seemed to be taking the **** with some of the drink prices. A friend was unhappy with being charged £7.50 for a small rose spritzer. Then I looked at the price of my (single) whiskey mac... £13.95! This was reduced on appeal to £10 - but even so! I'll probably be back for the food - but I doubt I'll be able to persuade the walking group to come back.

Amazing food,delicious flavours, well cooked full plate of food complemented by the red wine. Fun relaxed atmosphere with our friends. After our meal, we sat out the back of the restaurant on the picnic table, finishing our wine in the sunshine, very nice.

Superb home cooked food. Vegetables were the best I've had in a long while. A simple pudding of sorbets was elevated with sliced mixed fruit - delicious! Will definitely return soon.

Absolutely love this place. We have been here numerous times for lunch but we had dinner for the first time for my mother's birthday last night and what can I say.....the food was amazing and the service was amazing. The whole experience was really enjoyable. Highly recommend but book in advance

Celebrated a friend's birthday with dinner at this unassuming gastro pub and was utterly blown away by the food. I had the grilled squid and chorizo salad for starters, which was great, but the real highlight was the mushroom tagliatelle with black truffle. Fresh pasta, tasty fungi, and real truffle shavings come together for a great, harmonious dish. Perfect. Great prices, too!

We originally booked for a large family meal for my husband's 50th back in April. Sadly we had to cancel as we both caught Covid. The restaurant was very understanding and we promised to re-book. We finally re-booked to go for our family meal on Saturday evening. What a lovely pub/restaurant. We had pre-drinks in the outside area and moved inside for our meal. Everyone on the table enjoyed their meal - the food was fantastic. Lovely atmosphere. Thanks especially to Cora for all your hard work in organising.

Haven’t been for a while, so glad we revisited for Sunday Lunch. Great food and service , friendly and inviting, thoroughly recommend.

A bit disappointed to find the fillet steak not available - web site menu was out of date. Overall the dishes we had were well executed but didn't think serving them in large bowls helped e.g the jus with the confit duck just got absorbed into the mash and the various elements of the dish which were all individually pretty good sort of became combined into a bit of a mush. Goats cheese starter didn't have much cheese and was a bit too mild to our taste. Hake and accompanying sauce very good and the generous portion of fries also very good. Thought the skillfully executed flat apple tart was very nice and the wine list also good and reasonably priced. Staff friendly and helpful. Our table a bit cramped and can imagine it could be pretty noisy. Overall definitely a true "gastropub" and well worth a visit.

Wonderful food. Very filling, hot and reasonably priced. Very attentive servers. I had the wrong impression about Michelin starred restaurant..thought it would be small portions, exquisitely presented. So pleased to be proved wrong on the portion size!

We had dinner with friends. They said this place one of their favourite as they kept coming back here. We agree with them. The portion of the food are roughly are big especially my pork cutlet is big, kind like double portion for me 😅 I love my apple tart. It was delicious. Generally food was good and the staff are soo friendly and helpfull. We feel warm as they setup few point of heater. We will come back again.

Had to go back and take some friends. We were not disappointed and neither were they, fish, liver, duck, all perfect, every plate spotless. Wine delicious, deserts mouth watering, chef a genius, staff charming, pricing excellent value for money, I doubt if there is a better meal in the South of England frankly. Booking again with other friends and will have to make new ones to justify more visits to this haven of hospitality and culinary delight.

Once again a great meal and super service. Can't wait to return again.

Lovely Sunday lunch after completing the fancyfree.org 6 mile walk of Rudgwick and Rowhook. No reservation and we were lucky to get covers. Ate in the beer garden which was lovely on a nice sunny September afternoon - making the most of them while they're still here!) Garden was empty, which was surprising given what a beautiful afternoon it was. Inside pub was full. Roast beef was delicious as was the calves liver - not something you see on the menu these days so my wife found it a real treat. Worth stopping off for a drink and if you want lunch you definitely need to book. Will definitely be back again soon!

Was showing a new neighbour the good pubs in the vicinity so we turned up at the Chequers Inn at around 730pm on a Wednesday evening to find the car park, garden marquee and garden packed a they had a live band playing music and keeping everyone entertained. Nice pub with good beer and friendly staff. Although we weren't eating that night I have in the past and can confirm that the food is sensational.

Wonderful experience. We loved the food and the staff were excellent.

The staff were brilliant. My wife’s lamb lunch was excellent. However the pork lunch was not a pork joint but merely 3 thin slices of pork steak. Slightly disappointed.

Genuinely great food. Welcoming and attentive staff without being overbearing. They were absolutely lovely. Burger was perfected to medium rare and everything was clean and well presented. Great experience in a lovely area.

Had the most amazing meal there on Thursday. First meal out of lockdown. The lemon sole special was just beautiful. The chef certainly knows how to cook fish. The service was great with friendly helpful staff and prompt delivery of piping hot food. Their knowledge of the Gin menu and pairing was admirable as well. I will certainly be returning.

Superb lunch in garden marquee. Between us we had the confit duck, calves liver, and the burger. All extremely tasty and in good safe place with ventilation and space. Yay!

As a starter we had a mushrooms soup and a terrine of ham hock with cornichons, they were superb. As a main we ordered a Sirloin Steak with chips, roasted tomatoes and a flat cap mushrooms and a hake with peas. Both meat and fish were cooked to perfection, especially my fillet which I ordered rare was succulent, tender and juicy and browned on the outside. The service was quick and efficient, the environment very relaxing. A perfect night out.
