Always a nice pub and friendly staff but wouldn't rate the food! 7 mussells for a main is ridiculous and I don't even eat huge amounts and was hungry! Staff were all great though, just the food was lame sadly

Nice enough pub grub, I paid extra for triple cooked chips but in my opinion they were just mccains oven chips, no difference.

I don’t think we’ve ever been to such a warm and friendly pub. Connor is an outstanding host who went way above and beyond to ensure our 5 night birthday get away was something to remember. We loved reading about the pubs history, chatting to the locals and Sean’s Sunday dinner was superb. Connor and Sean only took over the pub 3 months ago but they’re doing a great job. Highly recommended for a quiet drink or a lovely meal. Many thanks for the hilarious conversations on the most trivial of things. FYI it’s a barm!! Hope to see you all again, Karen & Dave

Really disappointed after my first visit to The Chandos since the new management has taken over. We went up for some dinner, ordered some drinks and asked for a menu. Only then to be told that it was curry night so no other food was being served and curry night was also sold out. No where on their Facebook page (as website is still under construction) does it say anything about a curry night and needing to prebook nor does it on the sign outside that says the kitchen opening times. Everywhere suggests that the kitchen is just open as normal. I will not be rushing back to eat as I won’t be able to rely on the fact that they will be serving food.

Great food, lovely pub, excellent service. Loved our family lunch, everything was absolutely lovely. The small plates menu was extensive, just felt the main course menu could have been expanded to include maybe a chicken, pork or fish dish to cover more dining options. We were able to work around this with mixing up small plates. The mussels liquor over salted - personal taste. Not quite 5 stars but good enough for us to want to return. A great village gastro pub with lovely welcoming staff.

I wouldn’t bother with this place if you want afternoon tea. We arrived and were told that we didn’t have a booking for afternoon tea and they couldn’t now put one together as they had no food to provide it. I asked to speak to a manager and suddenly they said they could do it but we would have to wait half an hour, so we waited. Well it certainly wasn’t worth the wait, probably 4 slices of bread cut in fingers, with predominantly ham & mustard, cheese with an unrecognisable red stuff inside and soft cheese and cucumber. One tiny scone each a tiny square of brownie and a ball of something that would give anyone with dentures a run for their money! Appalling and definitely not worth £14 a head! No offer of a discount after having to wait and being told that the booking didn’t exist, even when I provided email evidence that it had been booked! Also the pub was freezing cold and therefore not very welcoming, toilet seats in the ladies coming off the toilet bowl. Won’t be visiting again, extremely disappointed

We booked an afternoon tea for elderly relatives. Having been contacted in advance to pay a deposit (which equated to almost the full price of the tea), we were then charged in full on the day. my husband paid without my knowledge, hence I did not question it at the time. Once I realised when we got home, I emailed to say what had happened (and also stating I wasn’t anticipating a refund at this point), but I didn’t even receive an acknowledgement of my mail. Disappointing and discourteous customer service. That all said, the tea itself was pretty disappointing. I make a better one myself at home. The scones I suspect were bought in, with a less than generous serving of clotted cream. The cakes were uninteresting and also did not taste home-baked. Also considering it was the week between Christmas and New Year, the atmosphere was flat, and the staff couldn’t even tell me if they had Earl Grey tea as an option, or indeed what the various cakes were meant to be. We originally had plans to return and try dinner (as it’s our local), but we will most definitely be going elsewhere now. What a shame!

We often call in for a drink, the service is excellent and always very welcoming. After seeing the lovely food that always got our taste buds going we decided to try it. The menu although not vast just exudes quality. The attention to quality produce is obvious and you get a feel that Matteo has a real passion for it. We were not disappointed. What can I say one of the best dinners we have had for a long time. The lamb Henry was out of this world, that really warrants an extra mention, but tbh everything that we ordered was absolutely amazing. Living in the area I have known this pub for many years and it has changed beyond believe since Brandon and Matteo have taken over. I would recommend a visit 100%, you won’t be disappointed.

My wife and I enjoy a good Sunday roast but are too lazy to do it ourselves. I had seen a number of post on our local community site about the Chando's Arms and decided to book a table. We were not at all disappointed. The booking over the phone was done swiftly politely and with no fuss. The pub is a wonderful traditional pub with all the traditional styling you would expect. We were greeted at the door and shown to our table. Every single member of staff we interacted were polite and engaging and were genuinely interested in us having an enjoyable experience. We never felt under any pressure and the level of attentiveness was spot on. Staff more than happy to help with recommendations if needed. We order a couple of starters (calamari and scallops) that were presented fantastically and tasted great. A brilliant start. The roast dinner was out of this world. It is of the home made type, not the mass produced, with care to make every plate look fantastic and taste brilliant. No need to ask for extra gravy if you are one of those who like plenty, it comes as standard. Vegetables are cooked perfectly still with a bite to them and plenty of them. The seating is well planned out and it's lovely and warm inside. There is plenty of parking outside too. The only thing is I wish we lived in the village so didn't have to drive so could really enjoy a trip out!A proper pub with fantastic food and all topped off with first rate staff. We will be going back and that is all you should really need to know.If your concerned about COVID precautions they were all clearly fully in place and being enforced. A stress free visit.

Having moved to the area not long before the pandemic lockdown we were keen to explore and find places with good food especially the good old traditional Sunday Roast! We felt very welcomed and safe with all the social distancing measures carefully put in place by the landlords and staff were observed regularly cleaning. We pre-booked 24 hours before but they seemed able to take walk ins but I imagine as more people venture out you’ll be best advised to book a table in advance to avoid disappointment. Sunday lunch was amazing, we both had shoulder of pork and portion sizes were good with a good selection of seasonal vegetables. My husband had a coffee whilst I squeezed in a dessert, lemon tart off the specials. The staff we very friendly and just attentive enough not to be too intrusive. I asked for my steak to be served blue and it was done perfectly. I was torn between the fillet steak and the exciting and wide ranging tapas menu. The landlady was a superb host and was very attentive and made excellent recommendations for drinks. They serve a lovely local gin flavoured with raspberry and honey and also have a stunning non alcoholic gin that tastes just like a real gin and tonic. This gorgeous pub does takeaway too and my Nana ordered her dinner for the next day with the pub being very accommodating. Will definately be coming back and recommending to my friends and family.Support local pubs businesses such as these to stop country gems like these from closing.Thank you Chandos Arms for a lovely lunch with great hospitality.

I washed it down with a pint cider. My wife had shank of pork with apple cider gravy with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes and a cider. The Chandos Arms is just what you expect the perfect country pub to be like first class food and service a warm welcome and very clean. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome by the staff and the locals at the bar. The beer is well kept and the food is among the best me and the wife have ever had (she can eat for England) it was so tasty & was definitely cooked to order from fresh produce. If you want great food at a good price the Chandos Arms is well worth a visit.

Firstly I would say that the atmosphere is nice and the staff tried as hard as they could. We dropped in, having seen the sign on the road, on Saturday 27th July 2013.There was no-one serving, so a local gave us the menus and poured us some beer (the beer - Doombar - was well kept).Eventually someone came out and took our food order after telling us there were no fish dishes (which is what I wanted) and no chicken dishes (my second choice).Eventually I chose a homemade burger and my husband chose a homemade Steak and Kidney Pie with chips not new pots. After this we heard that the Landlord was away at a Funeral and the Chef was at a Wedding, leaving one serving person and a trainee chef.......should have left then I think! We purchased some bar snacks (cheesy biscuits and bombay mix) as we could see it would be some time but they were pretty stale. There was a cyclist who had popped in and ordered some food and after a while they told him they didn't have what he wanted; he was ok about it but he left without eating. My homemade burger arrived, no questions about condiments. The chips were ok, the salad was old and wilted and the homemade burger was a disgusting highly processed slab of something,... not sure what.I ate some of the chips and salad but I simply couldn't eat the burger, it was gross.I had finished my meal by the time my husband's meal arrived. It was a steak and kidney Pudding - not pie - which he would not have ordered had he known. The suet was dry as were the contents, no gravy was provided. They did new potatoes not chips, the carrots were poorly microwaved and he didn't bother trying the broccoli. My husband finished the pie/pudding but nothing else and I did not finish my meal.My husband didn't complain about the meal but I did say that there was no way the burger was homemade - the waiting person tried some and agreed. We were not charged for the my meal but they did charge us half price for my husband's.We paid for the beer and the bar snacks. The staff were very apologetic but in my view they should have closed the kitchen for the day.

Wow what a turn out, we stopped by chance at a pretty little country pub and our expectations were more than met.so many pubs now days are trying to be restaurants with inflated prices and pretentious menus but this place does exactly what it says on the tin. friendly welcome by enthusiastic staff good real ales and kept well too, the food was excellent well presented and clearly home made. I don't write many reviews and I never write a bad one I will only post if I have something positive to say. I will defiantly be coming back here as long as the standards remain the same, It is my new favourite pub

we drove past and decided to give it a go. We tried the doombar ale well kept pint. Then the menu....a selection to make any men and women have trouble deciding...we went for game pie ...and braised lamb shank...both cooked to the highest quality...plenty on the plate and no reason to complain on price. We were served by the landlord and the chef came out to chat ...a great personal touch and were told the menu changes weekly and a nice selection of specials...we will be back .

We came to this pub for lunch - we were the only customers, but the staff were wonderfully friendly and quite chatty. We had a prime bench outside in their lovely little garden - the lunch itself was
