We met our daughters here for lunch for the first time. Didn’t realise it was here. It’s very nice and reminiscent of an old pub? A snooker place is here too. The staff were very pleasant and we were served promptly. The food we ordered was panini and salad and chicken burger. The food was nice. Could have done with a little more salad on the plate though. Coleslaw is very creamy if you like that sort of thing. We were under £20 a head and the was with 2 wines so not too bad. Will have to go back later at night to see what the menu is like but worth a visit

Overpriced and poor quality. We had been here before but it was some time ago. Went in for some lunch and were really disappointed. The quality and quantity on our plates was poor and it was so expensive so really poor value for money. There were three of us, we had two panini’s, a baked potato, a plate of soup and three cans of diet irn bru. Our bill was £45!!! The soup tasted of carnation milk or something strange. The panini’s were small and not very filling. The tuna and cheese panini was £10.25!! If it had been lovely we wouldn’t have minded but it certainly wasn’t. Wouldn’t hurry back and certainly wouldn’t recommend it.

We had a high tea here whilst staying at a nearby caravan park. We were really impressed by the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. They were really welcoming and pleased to see us. The food was very tasty, well-presented and there was plenty of it. It was so nice to have an old fashioned high tea with toast and cakes. When we are back in the area, we’ll definitely return.

As it was my birthday, we decided to go to the Castle Club Forfar for lunch. We have been before and know you get a warm welcome and the quality of the food is always excellent. Once we had sat down, we were given the menus and asked what we would like to drink. I had a coke, as I was driving and my wife had a glass of white wine. As a starter we both had Salmon and Prawn Cocktail. It was delicious. For the next course I had the Small Grill and my wife had Chicken Breast stuffed with Oatmeal with a Red Wine and Mushroom Sauce. Both were accompanied by boiled potatoes. Both meals were excellent and very nicely presented. We didn't have any sweets, but did have a coffee. As usual the staff were very pleasant and polite and there was no hurry to leave the premises. We will certainly return.

On arrival at The Castle Club we were met by a member of staff who showed us to our table which had been pre-booked. He immediately asked us if we would like drinks and took the order which was served very promptly. He then gave us the menu and advised us of the day's specials. We were given ample time to peruse the menu and make our choices. We chose the following- Steak Pie with Chips, Mini Grill with Roast Potatoes, Silverside with Chips and 2 Chicken Specials with Roast Potatoes. All were delicious as shown by all the plates being empty when the waiter came to clear the table. 2 of us had sweets- 1 an Apple Sponge with Custard, Cream & Ice Cream and 1 Banana Fritters with Hot Syrup and Ice Cream. We all then had coffee accompanied by shortbread rounds. Everything was excellent and as one of our party used to own and run a restaurant, he said he couldn't have had better value anywhere else. He has been many times before, but two of our party hadn't been before and they were very impressed. We will all certainly return.

Our friends and us decided to meet at the Castle Club for lunch. We had reserved a table and were greeted on arrival and shown to our table by a very friendly member of staff. We were given the menus and were told what the day's specials were. It was then very difficult to decide what to have. We were given ample time to chose and finally decided on Small Grill for the men and the 2 ladies chose the Silverside all accompanied by Chips or Roast Potatoes. The meals were served quickly, well presented and excellent quality. We followed our main course by having sweets, Ice Cream, Ice Cream & Pineapple, Apple Crumble & Custard and a Banana Pavlova with Toffee Sauce. Again all were excellent. After these we had coffees. We'll certainly be back and would recommend the Castle Club to our friends.

Our local Kia dealer is in Forfar so when we need to have the car serviced we have to travel from Dundee. The beauty of this is we get to try different places to eat while we wait for our car. This time we decided on The Castle Club which is a snooker club and a restaurant. As you walk through the front door there’s stairs leading you to the first floor. At The top of the stairs on the landing there are a few different doors. One leads to the snooker room, the toilets and the restaurant. The restaurant is decorated lovely and has a nice feel on walking in. As soon as we walked through the door the staff were on hand showing us to a table. There’s lots of room between tables so you don’t feel like you are sat on top of someone. Within a minute we had menus and a drinks order taken. We shared the smoked salmon starter which was on the table within minutes with two small plates. It was a delicious starter washed down with a lovely glass of Pinot. For the main course I had the battered fish with chips, carrots, side salad and a wonderful braised red cabbage. The fish was lovely and thick with a light batter, 2 large pieces. My husband had the seafood lasagna which was full of salmon, prawns and white fish in a lovely subtle white sauce. His came with the carrots, side salad, braised red cabbage and a bowl of chips also. The food was amazing, really tasty and looked great on the plate. The staff were really good, nothing was too much trouble. Everything was served with a smile. I will definitely be going back next year for the steak pie as it was recommended by someone in the Kia garage. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant. I know you won’t be disappointed.

We had been recommended The Castle Club for good wholesome food, so decided to try it. After parking the car in the nearby car park, we arrived at the restaurant. We reached the dining room on the first floor and were made most welcome by the staff who showed us to a table for 2. We were given the menus & asked if we required any drinks to accompany the meal. There was a choice of either a light snack menu, or the main menu. It was very difficult to select as there is a huge choice of traditional food. We both eventually decided on Prawn & Salmon with salad, brown bread & marie rose sauce. To follow I had the Seafood Lasagne, accompanied by vegetables & chips. My wife chose the hot Silverside with a whisky pepper sauce, accompanied by vegetables and roast potatoes. Everything was excellent and served very promptly. For a dessert we chose to share a Mixed Berry Pavlova with Ice cream & cream. Again, no complaints. Everything was presented very nicely and served by pleasant staff who seemed to be enjoying their work. It became very busy around 1 o'clock, so it would be advisable to book before going. We will certainly be returning, and will definitely recommend this restaurant to our friends.

We came here for 'high tea' on a Sunday afternoon. This was not something I'd heard of before, but to the uninitiated, involves a main course, followed by tea, coffee, scones and a huge selection of cakes and treats. I had an excellent seafood lasagne, which was probably one of the tastiest meals I've had this year. My husband had the chicken and haggis dish, and other family members had the chicken enchiladas, breaded fish and battered fish; all were delicious. The scones and cakes were so plentiful, we could not do them justice. Just as we were leaving, one of the waitresses offered to package up what was left, which we took her up on. What a great service! I highly recommend this place for a family meal.

Not much of a street frontage for the Castle Club. You could easily miss it if ypu were just looking for somewhere to eat. After a daunting climb up the stairs, the restaurant looks a bit dated, but quirky. The food was very very tasty and freshly prepared with descent sized portions served by polite and very friendly staff. I feel that it is a wee tad expensive for some dishes eg. £14.50 for Scampi and Chips or a Salad, but the Club is very popular and booking is a must. Lookout for the two Wall lanterns above the green ornate doorframe in Castle Street and enjoy. Recommended.

Myself, wife and sister-in-law, all three together were having high tea in Forfar's favourite restaurant with four billiard tables (in a separeate room) attached, the wonderfully thought-of Castle Club ... a family-run operation noticeably run with their customers' comfort and needs at the heart of their business ethos. You could have chosen any of the offerings on their menu and I am certain you would not have been disappointed ... each of the many choices promising good fresh foods, excellent standard of cooking, and cakes with ample toast and tea, in a very congenial atmosphere. We had Haddock Mornay, Roast Silverside and a Mixed Grill, each with full trimmings, sauces and a choice of potatoes. Then along came a beautiful array of scones, cakes and tea or coffee to make certain everyone went home sated and happy. And, as always, we did ... and will again.

I would highly recommend, dining at the castle club, a wee bit to wait for food, but well worth it (it was very busy), glad we booked (6). Everybody enjoyed what they were served. Cost wise, good value for money and good size portions...we will be back again. Well done from waitress staff to kitchen staff.

Called in to the Castle Club for a pre-booked High Tea recently as had been advised it is still a very busy place! Not been for quite a while but décor etc is pretty much the same as it always has been - 'olde worlde' but very clean and tidy, and the toilets modern and clean.

First time at the Castle club for years as have been away from the area. We booked for a High tea and was shown to a table in the back room. The waitress took our order promptly and did not have to wait long.I ordered rump steak which came on a sizzling platter.I thought the steak had a strange taste (maybe the oil) but I still ate it.I was amazed at the amount of greasy/oily onions was served with the steak, never ever had as much before it spoiled the dish.Personally I would prefer a few battered rings. The tea and hot scones were tasty though.I would not hurry back as a bit disappointed with the value.

Stopped here for lunch on arriving in Forfar for weekend (family of 7). We was quickly shown to a table with a most warm welcome. Menu was extensive so spoilt for choice. All family members thoroughly enjoyed their lunch choices evident by clear plates! Most certainty highly recommend.

Checked Trip Advisor and found this to be number 1. We were not disappointed. The High Tea was fabulous. We both had the Haddock in batter with chips and the fish was superb. Coupled with the toast and any amount of tea, it was great. Then they bring you scones, butter and jam and cakes. Absolutely stuffed when finished. The service was really good. Very friendly and attentive.

Had a marvellous high tea here yesterday, early evening. My wife chose the haddock mornay dish which looked beautiful on the plate and she assured me was every bit as good as it looked. Ditto ... my own choice of chicken chasseur, which I have never had before, but which was cooked to perfection, presented in style and fulfilled the promise. The Castle Club was packed and yet the servers seemed unharrassed and handled their task well. A lot of smiling faces around us as we ate. Another triumph. Five star rating well deserved.

Amazing home cooked food. Chicken enchiladas are by far the best thing I’ve ever had there. Very friendly and reasonable...

We won't be returning, there were just too many things that have put us off. Very unfriendly welcome, to being seated right next to the lift where hotel guests were coming in and out (yes, we should have said something, but there should never have been a table put there). As for the food, who thought it would be a good idea to smother the loaded fries in loads and loads of cheese sauce (was supposed to be cheese) that was the most awful thing to keep eating. As for the Townhouse salad, how can they even call it a salad and charge those prices. Was literally small portions spooned on the plate of what ever was in the fridge with chips and your chosen salad (my child is far more creative with food). Then there's the scampi, where they put the chips and the barely cooked bullet peas in separate dishes, but all it did was make it look like very little and certainly wasn't worth the money paid. My teenaged child ordered a reduced portion as they wanted to get a pudding. However, they were so disappointed in their meal where a lot of it was left and they were then never going to order anything else. It costs a lot of money going out for a meal and we will happily pay a bit more if we know we're going to enjoy our meal. The Townhouse was a huge disappointment, not recommended.

Never have we been to a hotel with such friendly welcoming staff. Everyone we met showed us the greatest hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant on both nights of our stay and enjoyed the food and again the friendly attitude of the staff. Breakfast was varied with a choice of hot dishes including Arbroath smokies. Our room was spacious and warm with a view over the green. We will certainly return if we visit Montrose again. The birdwatching was good too!

Packed on the day of our visit and we had probably the last table. Food was excellent quality and service was very friendly if s we’d bit haphazard at times. Part of meal arrived late and incomplete but overall very good
