The first time I went to California last week was very impressive and it made us (myself and husband) go again today. It is really nice dining there, everything is enjoyable from food, service and the atmosphere. My husband actually booked a table for Christmas. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Fantastically c venue and staff were brought pliant, from your managers who helped with the room and food choices. Everyone had a great time.

All good other than 1 very regular customer who had some bad habits. We had to move away to avoid listening to his repetitive snorting. A loner for a reason.

Another Lovely Evening at Ember Inns The California. 2 Course Evening Set Menu for £13.79. Spiced Parsnip and Sweet Potato Soup and Thick Cut Gammon Steak. Instead of 3 Course Set Menu I Paid Extra for "Off the Menu" HUGE Biscoff Sundae.... My Favourite Biscoff 😋😋😋 A Really Good Deal and Meal in a A Relaxed and Cosy Setting in a Big Comfy and Cosy Booth Like Sofa Seat..... Now With Dimmed Lighting and Candle in the Table!

We used it for a wake & were very impressed by the staff & wonderful buffet they provided. It was perfect.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was a good choice of food and drink at very reasonable prices. The food itself was well cooked and very tasty and the pub was very clean.

Decided to have dinner here Thursday evening as they had a 50% off mains courses offer. The pub was about half full, but there appeared to be only 2 staff in the bar and restaurant. I ordered on the app and collected my drinks from the bar after 15 minutes. The food arrived approximately 45 minutes+ after ordering, No one came over to apologise or explain a delay during this time. The food when it arrived was tasty and good portions. I had surf and turf, the steak was good and cooked well. The prawns were missing, I had to leave my meal to queue at the bar to mention this to someone. They arrived just before I finished my dinner. With the voucher, we had a decent meal at a great price, but I probably won't return based on this experience.

This pub is back, and better than it has been in ages. Isabelle had it going on all fronts. The food is better, atmosphere is back, still dog friendly, and staff now hilarious with the ball of energy Cat.

Working local was only going for 29 minutes but enjoyed it so much didn’t want to go back to work

Lovely Christmas meal lovely place and great service I will hopefully be booking for next year.

The service was excellent. While the food was good, the sausages were a bit burnt on this occasion. The atmosphere was good. There is a small number of parking spaces. This pub is in a good area. Enjoyed a really nice evening out. Amount spent (below) includes drinks.

There was a large groups of us and all the different food was very good and the lady that served us was very patient with us

One drink and a £100 parking fine!! Beware that the pub car park isn't free.. particularly if you arrive in the dark as signs aren't obvious at all! I tried to ring to discuss the fine as you mentioned below trying to help me with me. But I haven't heard from anyone and no one has come back to me to try and help. As it's an external company proving fines to your customers, then please help your customers to not get caught out by providing more obvious signage as I didn't see anything when I was there neither in the car park or at the bar or on the tables.

They serve Weston's Old Rosie cider on hand pump. That's enough for an automatic 5 stars #realcider

My brother took my sister inlaw & nephew here ,for a meal recently & all 3 have been sick & going to the toilet constantly since .Think twice before Entering these premises

Waited awhile for the food was nice but not quite enough for my liking the biggest disappointment no brown sauce. Why stop that?

We waited so long for our food, over twenty-five minutes. My food was Hunter chicken with fries & salad it was very nice. My son had a beefburger and fries, but not enough for the price.

Today there was 12 of us for a family meal, the food was very well presented and yummy,dessert was awesome hot chocolate orange sponge with cold ice cream, the two ladys running the place as they were short staffed done an excellent job between them so we will definitely recommend the cali and will be back soon,thankyou.

Went in for Sunday lunch - but was told it would be over an hour for food so went elsewhere. Then got a £60 parking fine for using the car park. Tbf the pub did then did try to help sort this out for me. So watch out for this.

Went for a drink for a works do and the staff never fail to amaze me. Some of the group played a game and a lovely young man (staff) joined in!! Staff always go above and beyond in this place! No faults whatsoever!

The refurbishment, nice though it is, has made less difference than the new staff who have transformed it. The food is excellent, tasty and generous. Service is as quick, but they were slightly understaffed. Staff were very pleasant and helpful throughout our visit. Our previous visit made going back difficult, but we are pleased that we did and will be back again soon.

I have eaten here many time but they always disappoints me with their steak,very bland ,no seasoning at all and tough I would never ever spend a penny in this place ever again, I don't think the chef ever tasted the food he/she cook.

Nice pub but understaffed, takes to long to get served. Steak over cooked, they did change the plate but another 20 min wait.

Decent sized Sunday lunch served with either beef rib, chicken or gammon. The beef rib on the bone was succulent and juicy. The kids Sunday lunch was good value. Dog friendly too.

Visited with my partner and went for a Sunday Roast, 1 hour wait when the place is next to empty to be told they don't have some sides, which we cancelled. The dinner was mediocre, some hard root veg, watery gravy and the plate had been filled with 7 potatoes (bit excessive), although the rib of beef just wasn't to my taste, it was tender but it was more pulled beef than what I'd expect. I ordered sticky toffee pudding, big mistake, tiny portion and it was over microwaved and went hard, scorching inside and stuck to the plate so I ate the ice cream only. First and last time I go here, wish I'd spent my £50 elsewhere tbf.

I booked for 10 adults and 3 children Sunday 1.0pm. On entering there was nobody in sight to greet us and show us our seats. We found them ourselves. We were told immediately it would be 45 minute wait for food at 1.0pm and the restaurant was nearly empty. The place was clearly understaffed!! The food was not good- warm food not hot, hard vegetables and few/tiny roast potatoes. Sadly we will not be going again.

A busy pub. Limited parking that you register your car number for on an iPad on the bar. They run an order by App system : you scan a QR code on your table for drinks and food. There was quite a long wait, when we asked we were told there was an hour wait for food. The food was good but the impersonal service left much to be desired.

Me and friends came in yesterday at midday. Lois served us our food. She was exceptional, she was so kind and willing to make sure we had a good experience. The chicken and bacon avocado wrap was delicious. Would definitely come back.

Since getting taken over by new owners the pub has come on leaps and bounds. Great place to enjoy a drink and food. Nice garden area too.

I came here to eat with my family today and had a lovely time there. Anne and another member of staff went above and beyond to get our order taken, food out quickly and took the time to check in with us on our experience. Their customer service was spot on despite the place being busy. The food was delicious there! I had the beef and red wine lasagna and absolutely loved it. Overall excellent service for food, the two young ladies (Anne and the other lady whose name I wished I’d asked for) making the experience a lovely one for us all. Highly recommended!

Two of us had lunch there.The service was awful!The drink that I ordered was not right tasted very bad.Took it back .Izabel Eastern European manager was very rude ,basically made out its not her problem not her fault that she made it so disgusting ,that it was my fault.She didn't apologise no customer satisfaction.After arguing with her she reluctantly changed the drink for another drink!And it took her ages to rectify the problem.I have read on line that alot of customers have complained about this manager.I have never experienced such a unfriendly rude manager to a customer before.We have been drinking at this pub for years.

Excellent food and services. Prices very reasonable given todays cost of living. Decor looking a bit tired could do with freshing up.

I have to say I was very impressed with the service and food on 12th May, when the big event took place - charity walk for Royal Marsden. Probably hundreds of people visited the pub on that day, and I was one of them. Food was lovely, service was great ! And nobody had to wait to be served. Thank you for great experience.

This the 2nd week I have come for a bottle of prosecco both times the drink has not been cold enough. Luckily I didn't order the champagne which is in the same fridge. No seems to care .

The worst pub in England, zero entertainment factor. I suppose you can stare at each other, or pass a box of matches to one another, my god you need to see it ,to believe it. Not even a pool table, I mean Seriously, a pub without a pool table, why even open .

Slowish service but acceptable ish. Staff are friendly and helpful. Starters menu is is nice but the mains I wouldn't order again. Can't blame staff for rubbish meat the stakes were awful. For an extra 20 quid could of gone to the grumpy mole for proper grub. Nice place though. 3 Big seating garden areas plus large inside. Tvs all over for sport and drinks are nice. I'll come back for drinks and starters but not mains

Unfortunately they are taking my families favourite pudding from the menu at the end of April ( caramel apple crumble and custard) so needed to visit.

Amazing experience at the California. I’m a local to Sutton but had never been in. Went for dinner last week with a friend and the food was amazing!! Fresh and full of flavour. Atmosphere was great and service was impeccable, would definitely recommend as a great dinner catch up spot! Will visit soon again! X

I can honestly say this was diabolical standards The food I thought it was made from wood Waited a hour for food then waited 40 mins for small deserts Staff completely not fussed at all No hello when walked in absolutely 0 communication just said take a seat No goodbye eathier I have been here once before not sure if management has changed but the standards have massively slipped down hill Definitely think you need to train your chief how to took microwave meals and your front house team how to manage customers experience as only your business it will impact
