The Cakery in Calderdale

Started off positive , shown to our table (prebooked) straight away. Waitress took a drinks order which we had to wait for @15 minutes to be delivered but missed off 2 drinks and we had to ask a couple of times for these. Food ordered pretty quickly but then we waited almost an hour for our food. Difficult to get the attention of waiting staff and we had to ask to order another drink whilst we waited. 1 order was wrong and took @ 10 minutes to be changed The place wasn’t packed but waiting staff were very poor, not dynamic or had any customer awareness. The food was lovely but glad we parked across the road otherwise we’d have had to leave before we finished to avoid a parking charge in the cakery carpark. Can’t say I’d rush back.

First visit to The Cakery and was not disappointed...nice casual atmosphere, the food was excellent and the service was very good!!

Erm well. Arrived to a cluttered entry point. Menus piled everywhere. Plastic tubs of serviettes without a home. Looked like it could do with a good clean. Kitchen looked chaotic. Shown to the table where it was so dark couldn’t see the menu. Black ceiling absorbed the light and font was tiny and menu was sticky. Loos were sweaty and manky and walk there not much better. Floor unloved. Quick look in staff quarters revealed worse. Even the plants were caked in dust. Food was poor when it has potential to be great. Caesar salad used flat flabby lettuce. Drenched in sauce. Homemade ciabatta croutons were deep fried 🤢. Chicken was deep fried caked in batter. The small plates were ok but everything was darker side of beige. Some potential but could do with freshening up with nice salad. Staff were lovely but half were clueless. No tomato sauce or mayo offered with chips. Cheap serviettes and cutlery and for the price you’d expect a bit more. Again, a shame as lots of potential. Would come again but likely bring my cleaning spray to show it some love and maybe a paint brush for that ceiling!

Lovely food, disappointing service. Went in for lunch with my mum, sat down, served within ten minutes , fab…. 🫤 Finished the food and nobody wanted to know us, did we do something wrong? Nobody came to clear the table, ask if we wanted anything else, an hour passed by, what had we done? When we politely mentioned this to the assistant manager Ellie, this was completely dismissed with a disrespectful manor, we were told we had to pay the bill as ordered and we would not receive any compensation for waiting around for over an hour! The staff clearly want you in and out, which is completely irrespective to the correct attitude to have, as well as disappointing to our previous experiences. For someone local to west vale, who also visits the location FREQUENTLY, this was exceptionally disappointing and the lack of respect and etiquette the staff had towards our experience was alarming to future guests. I am indeed truly disappointed and offended by the service I received. Had this been my sole experience I would not return, although accounting for this experience, I do think it will be a great while before I do so. There are many better and well deserved places to spend your money, in which they also respect their incoming customers.

Firstly we called in to see if there was as a table available, to be told not inside?? That day it was 46mph gusts of winds with showers, so yes we want to sit inside! Anyhow we booked a table for an hour later. We were promptly shown our table and within 10 minutes our order was taken. Our food came within half an hour, so not as quick as some would like but it was busy so we understood the wait. The food was very good. We then decided we would like a coffee and a cake, we waited 50 minutes ( yes I know we could have made ourselves aware we were waiting)however the place offers table/waitress service which surely covers the clearing of empty plates and asking if anything else is required, BUT at this point the place was quiet and the waiting staff were only interested in clearing the empty tables and chatting with other staff and not once checking if the occupied tables required anything, so we gave up and went to pay, we politely expressed our disappointment in the service which really seemed to have no concern to the very young assistant manager ( Emily I believe). So we paid our bill £50, and sadly never to return. I am aware this place does afternoon bottomless brunches so I would make sure the service was certainly quicker on the day you have booked otherwise you may leave having just 1 drink. I would love to hear the cakerys feedback on my review 🤞.

We called for breakfast and were very impressed! I chose wild mushrooms on toast and my husband had the large breakfast, which was huge and delicious!! The coffee was also very good. The staff were friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely be back!

We had lunch at The Cakery for a colleagues leaving lunch. All the food was delicious, the staff were very attentive and welcoming. I would definitely recommend and they were accommodating for our large group.

Great food, service & venue. Quick service, friendly and approachable staff & a lovely venue with plenty of space. I will defo be coming back.

Well what can I say, what a fantastic afternoon we had, from the moment we walked in to the moment we staggered out!!! Bottomless Brunch, girly afternoon! we were very well looked after with our fantastic host. We will be back!

Love the cakery go on a bi-weekly basis! Recommend the halloumi stack as it’s been one of my recent favourites! Some of the people on here need to get a grip! It’s a great venue consistently keeping a high standard of service. Do as the website says book! Just to ensure you get a table as it fills up quickly!

Called in after a walk as they advertise on their website to ‘just walk in’ to be told no tables and I need to book. It needs to make it clear it’s one or the other

Wonderful afternoon tea at The Cakery. Such a generous selection of food. The bao buns were amazing! We were so full we took the cakes home for later! Thanks for a lovely afternoon

I’ve always loved it here. Previously loved their ciabatta sandwiches (chicken club, Italian meats) and halloumi stack on sourdough. But last time I visited the menu has changed and those things that I was looking forward to weren’t there. I ordered a couple of small plates and they were really nice but not what I had in mind. To me the menu isn’t as enticing as it used to be and that will probably mean I won’t rush back which is a huge shame as I’ve recommended this place to so many people.

Lovely gem of a place, great decor, tasty food. I had steak and eggs and it was cooked to perfection. We were in s part of five and all the meals were fabulous.

It was our first visit to the Cakery today and was very impressed. Very swift attentive service by a lovely friendly waitress and very delicious food. I had the gf pesto chicken salad which was scrumptious. My husband had a steak sandwich with chips which he said was top notch. It’s quite a big space, a tad noisy, but that’s just me being a little noise sensitive - but overall highly impressed. Great gluten free options, so look forward to trying something new next time when we bring our pooch too, as it’s dog friendly.

Second time here and loved it both times, took family who were visiting, from the ice tea, iced coffee to fab range of cakes we had all was excellent. Amazing service too - thank you, we’ll be back for sure x

Very busy on arrival but the service was slow even to get a drink. The food options were good but two out of three breakfast options were cold if they had been hot I would have given more positive feedback. Everything seemed to have soughdough with it which was a rock hard crusted doorstop not sure it’s everyone’s go too bread The other problem I’m afraid is the extraction when we left we could small the food on our clothes which isn’t great

Visited for breakfast following a local overnight stay. The menu online looked great and initial impressions were good. Unfortunately the service is painfully slow. They take your order promptly but the barista/kitchen don’t seem to be able to keep up. I specifically asked for the advertised crispy bacon to be very very well done, what arrived couldn’t be described as crispy let alone well done requested in addition. By husbands poached egg was over cooked and when mine was returned whilst the bacon was perfect the egg was massively under. By this point my husband had finished his food and I didn’t have the time nor inclination to ask for it to be redone again. I ate what I could and we left. A shame as it looked promising, maybe an off day but we wouldn’t return

Absolutely stunning place, friendly staff, and beautiful food, would definitely recommend!, not too overly priced either.

Just had the most delicious chicken, chorizo and cheese toastie, served with homemade pesto. I asked for the pesto in the side as I often don’t like it but the stuff they make was really yummy. They clearly use lovely fresh ingredients. First visit but super impressed, I’ll be back.

We came over the weekend for brunch - I had the bruschetta and my husband had the eggs on toast - he asked for them scrambled and when they came they were nothing like scrambled, more like an oily fried egg. After waiting a long time as it was for what we ordered, we accepted it. My bruschetta was lovely however! Once finished we paid and moved round to the takeaway side to grab a drink each - after being stood there for 5 minutes, clearly waiting to be served we decided to leave as no one had any interest in us spending any more money with them - at least 4 people being the counter and none engaged with us at all. Won’t be coming back in a hurry…which you don’t seem to know the mean of hurry anyway!

I love the coffee at The Cakery, but if you're opting for a takeaway coffee give yourself plenty of time. I'm sorry, but the staff are painfully slow, and no one seems to be in control of the takeaway side of things. If you can't improve because a restaurant and takeaway is too demanding...stop offering takeaway drinks. I really don't mind a slight wait, but 20 minutes is a joke for a single coffee. This was compounded by the fact the staff had to come and ask me to reconfirm my order, so clearly it had been forgotten. The Cakery needs to get better with takeaway orders, because on the strength of this visit I won't be returning.

Ordered some french toast, food was nice but had a big hair in it. I was very polite with the workers about the hair, made them aware and asked for a smaller replacement to make up for the food I hadn't yet finished. They replaced the small portion with no concern however the manager refused to knock any money off the bill and also refused to come and speak to me as they was "busy in the kitchen". Really disappointed with the customer service. Manager gave off a "I don't care about the hair in your food" attitude. A big hair in your food is unhygienic and given how civil I was about it I didn't expect rudeness from the manager in return. I'm a nurse for the NHS and I always strive to deliver the best service I can to my patients. I expect the same back from services I use. If the manager wants to see busy they want to try working on an NHS ward for 12 hours whilst keeping people alive and still giving people the respect and time they deserve. Then they will know busy. I'd recommend the manager gets some education on customer service going forward

Horrendous service. Girlfriend found a huge hair in her french toast. Manager needs some customer service skills as he said he was too busy to talk and no discount or refund was given. Unhygienic!!!!! As a manager myself this is stupidity as the customer ALWAYS comes first. Get rid of your manager! Terrible experience

This spot is a beautiful dining experience, the staff are so friendly and helpful and the food is A*. I come here on a regular basis as the experience is so warm and consistently great

So disappointed, staff either not trained or not interested. Eaitrd too long, Eggs were hard , staff just said sorry guys . Won’t be back

Food and coffee are always delicious, staff super helpful and there’s a really nice atmosphere. The old store was lovely and so is the new one.

Amazing food and drinks, fantastic customer service! Highly recommended! Came here with my netball team after our match, food was so delicious and the atmosphere was perfect.
