Nice pub good 🍻 and good atmosphere

Great bar with a choice of 6 Real Ales. The Theskston Old Peculier and the Wainwright Amber Ale were particularly nice, as I’m told was the Guinness.

Called in Saturday. We haven't been in the pub for a long time. Just as we remembered it. Nice selection of ales, I had a lovely Theakstons Old Peculiar. Friendly pub. Lovely homemade beef sandwich.

Probably haven't been in this pub in decades, went in tonight and was really pleasantly surprised! Dog friendly, calming atmosphere, great music, very lovely friendly staff and really cool decor all around. Will definitely be back 😊

I adore this pub. It's a proper old fashioned cask ale pub full of friendly people and friendly staff. My wife and I visit every Friday, it's something we both really look forward to after a tough week. Relax, unwind and enjoy the fabulous ales on offer. Kelly keeps a fantastic cellar and is a bright ray of sunshine behind the bar. See you there 🍺

The best "pub" in town. Good range of beers and drinks, also good home-cooked food (certain lunch times). I love the hidden corners for quiet chats and the beer "yarden" is particularly cute. Good quiz on Tuesdays but booking advised bcos it is popular. My only gripe is ..... it's closed on Mondays. I keep forgetting🙄

This pub is an absulte gem. If you are tired of awful chain pubs and long for a traditional pub with great beers and a great atmosphere this is the place for you. Easily the best pub in Chester-le-Street, arguably best in County Durham. Always a great range of real ales on tap. Kelly and the rest of the staff could not be more welcoming and there is a great community of friendly regulars including myself and my husband. Highly recommended.

My Dad always loved coming to the Butchers Arms. Now my Mum and I enjoy coming to the pub after our Thursday church service. Staff are welcoming and we’ve got to know the regulars every Thursday. I bring my Mum in a wheelchair and everyone couldn’t be more helpful. I feel very confident and comfortable going on my own. The Jack Rabbit Pinot is delicious and as someone who is gluten free, Joan and Kelly always accommodate that. My Mum will go for the steak pie. It is the only pub in Chester-le-Street with traditional charm and character. We feel part of the furniture. Rachel and Meg

This is the best real ale bar in Chester le Street. You always get a perfect pint and a good choice of ales. The food is home cooked and plentiful. The staff are brilliant and always make you feel very welcome and the customers are happy to chat with you.The quiz night and the play your cards right evenings are a good laugh. My husband and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Call in and see for yourself.

This really is a proper pub. the food is home cooked, hearty and delicious. the atmosphere is warm and convivial. However, the best reason to visit has to be the quality and choice of the cask ales on offer. there are usually six handpulls available, all dispensing excellent quality beer at a reasonable price. The Butchers really is a gem of a pub. Except on Mondays when it's closed.

Traditional pub with a small but beautifully sunny beer garden

First time in fir a while. Everything was as good as past trips. Food was excellent and the beer (Boondoggle) top class. Very good service from both bar staff and kitchen staff. Price reasonable as well.

On arrival we were warmly welcomed and our spaniel Ruby. A great selection of ales served at the right temperature awaited us at the bar. Even Ruby received bowl of doggie treats. The wholesome home cooked menu had a plethora of tasty options for our palates which made our choosing difficult. I had the liver and onions complete with a dumpling on request which really hit the spot. Thank you to the staff for making the start of our holiday so enjoyable.

Friendly and helpful staff. Food was lovely but took a while from get our dinner plates to the veg coming to our table but other than that I couldn’t fault it

Rang up to book a table. Was told to come for a certain time. Drove 40miuntes to get there. Walked in to be told children arnt allowed. Really??? Foaming will not ever go back total waste of time

Lovely beer, friendly staff. The food was OK, but our lass didn't like her scampi and chips (she is very picky). The portions were massive so I couldn't finish my pork and stuffing sandwich and chips.

Been in a few times now, staff are lovely,tried food which was great and reasonably priced, drinks also very reasonable and a good selection. The butchers is very clean and is a very nice pub,my only complaint is that it was quite cold in bar area today, and ladies loo was freezing.. hence 4 star review

Still the Best real ale pub in town. Regularly changing selection of hand pulls as well as normal lagers etc. Proper home cooked food that is tasty, filling and value for money. No idiots, no bother, just a great, welcoming atmosphere.

This place is nice. Was very quiet given the cricket was on later. Way better than queuing for a drink elsewhere.

Staying at lumley castle came for a walk and the butchers Arms warm friendly locals,great aray of ales, directors perfect. I would highly recommend this pub for drinks. Landlord and landlady made us feel like the regulars. Will be coming back thank you butchers arms
