Got to say the best chicken burger I've had, the chips were excellent so was the mac and cheese! Sky sports, pool table and good food, I will be back without a doubt and highly recommended x100

I was genuinely excited to try the vegetarian option at this establishment, especially with the two-for-one burger deal. However, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment. The so-called "vegan patty" turned out to be a dry Quorn burger, far from the Beyond Meat experience I had hoped for. Topped with a meager slice of tomato, a lettuce leaf, and a tiny dollop of mayonnaise, it lacked flavor and moisture. Even the chips failed to impress, being rather bland. Overall, it was a regrettable dining experience, and I won't be returning anytime soon.

Good burger restaurant in Harborne. I don’t eat meat so it’s always difficult to find somewhere with options, interestingly there is both a vegan burger and a fish burger available (“Oh My Cod” is what they call it). Sides include Mac & Cheese and cheese-stuffed and breaded jalapeño. Worth a visit.

Fantastic food for all, visited with a large group of which some had food requirements. Great for vegetarian/gluten free. Staff were very friendly, food was great and served within a reasonable time. Fortunately we visited whilst they had cocktails on 2 for 1! Overall a great evening.

Went here a few weeks ago on a Saturday evening, first time visiting (never came prior to the change over, so not comparing like for like). Was surprised how quiet it was, but greetings from the staff were welcoming. Ordered wine and a couple of beers - best tasting drinks we'd had and most reasonably priced, out of the 3 venues we'd visited in Harborne that evening. The price for a game of pool is reasonably too. Reason for the 3 stars? The pool table and cues could do with refurbishment/replacing. The toilets need maintenance, one toilet doesn't have a lock on it and the door doesn't close. Not eaten here before and didn't order any food on this visit as we'd already eaten elsewhere, so can't comment on the food.

Been here a couple times before they closed and it was pretty good, went yesterday after they’ve reopened and left disappointed, 40 quid down on two burgers that were subpar at best, seemed like quality has been cut to keep costs down and it shows, but yet they still have the cheek to add a service charge. Shameful, won’t be rushing back anytime soon.

Decent Philly cheese steak, cheese and bacon burger was beefy but lacked and other flavour. Dirty fries were gloopy, not very warm and lacking flavour. Pretty good chicken tenders and cocktails but I don't think I'd go back for the burgers. Okay overall but not worth the price compared to other great burger restaurants in Birmingham.

This is a great local bar with music and pool. The staff are very friendly and the day I was there (last Thursday) there was a deal on the booze. A big shout out to Emily behind the bar. Will definitely return.

First time coming back since it reopened and there's less attention to detail than before. The food was good, but not great. The service was fine, but not amazing. It was more concerning that things seemed a little grubby; the unneeded tattered drinks menu on the table, the stains on the newly reclothed pool table, and one toilet without a lock, the other without any soap. Can't say I'll be rushing back.

Went here last night for the first time and well, I wasn't disappointed! From the minute we were welcomed at the door to the time we said goodbye. This a rare gem these days. Small but fully loaded with atmosphere, good food, good service and good customers it seems. Gia, our server was lovely and couldn't do enough to help x It is only a small place but has the biggest heart ❤️

I recently revisited The Bun & Barrel, and it did not disappoint!! The highlight of my meal was undoubtedly their signature burger. What stood out just as much as the food was the excellent service from the staff. They were attentive, friendly, and made sure my dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish. And let's not forget about the wings – they were generously sized and packed with flavour!! Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Compared to the old iteration of this restaurant food was very poor. ‘Crispy wings’ were soggy and tasted like old oil. Burger tasted the same as what you get from a burger van for half the price. Chips grossly under salted. Even with the wings comped bill was £30 for a burger, fries and two drinks. What I can say in a positive light was service was great, attentive and welcoming.

Definitely not the same quality as the previous version. Patties were quite simply awful and tasted like cheap barbecue quality burgers. Premium prices for very very poor food. That said, service was still excellent.

Looked very soulless and cold, the decor was incredibly un-inviting, on top of that it was £6.35 for a pint you can get anywhere else in Birmingham for ~£5

Probably the best fish burger I’ve had in my life! 10/10… great atmosphere, service, and drinks choice! Definitely better than the previous drinks range, I’ll defo be returning!

3rd time visiting since the re open absolutely lovely everytime!

This is definitely not the same Bun and Barrel that closed down last year - and not in a good way. The most important thing, the food, and the main reason why everyone enjoyed the original, is not the same at all. The burgers tasted like they were Birds Eye’s frozen burgers in all honesty and lacked any flavour. There was nothing tasty or ground breaking about them in the slightest. The service was ok, there was hardly anyone there at the time so there was zero atmosphere, but it did mean that food came out quickly. I wouldn’t bother making a visit again, there are much better burgers out there and unfortunately I can’t see the reincarnation lasting when the quality of the food is so poor.

Disappointing. We had been to the Bun and Barrel a couple of times under the old management and, whilst a little overpriced, the service was excellent and the food on point. Unfortunately things have slipped under the new management. We had very slow and disinterested service and the food, whilst not bad, didn’t quite live up to the previous standard. Top that off with probably the worst Old Fashioned cocktail I’ve had in a long time…won’t be returning any time soon.

Let’s just say we were disappointed. We missed out the first time around and we so excited to go this time. But the food was ‘ok’. Looking back at the previous menu and photos I would say it’s not the same and for the price we were disappointed. There was nothing to complain about it was nice and but just ok. Nothing spectacular or special.

In a city with some truly amazing burger joints, this doesn't stand out. The food was good enough to not complain, but indistinct enough to not go back. All of it lacked seasoning. I think our table was forgotten about, so we had to flag someone down to order. The music playlist was straight up confused, why crash from rnb into numetal?

First thing is the food is phenomenal, perfect burgers and lovely chicken - hot as it came out and cheap prices. Darcy our waiter was lovely and even when there was a slight mishap with the check but she handled it very well! The food wait time wasn’t bad either. Only problem is i wouldn’t suggest on a saturday night or friday as it can get loud! But definitely recommend :)

We were up in Birmingham for the day and popped into the Bun & Barrel for lunch on our way home. The food was excellent and the staff are really friendly! We both had the bacon and cheese double smash burger; the bacon was super crispy and sauce on point. We met one of the owners who was very welcoming and told us the story of B&B. Highly recommend for lunch and/or evening drinks (as they also have a pool table). Thanks guys!

Recently moved to Harborne and found this gem! Amazing selection of beer, great atmosphere, most friendliest staff and to top it off a pool table! (may I add the only place on the high street with a pool table) would 100% recommend to anyone!

I’m pretty annoyed that they’re trading off the name of the former bun and barrel (which was exceptional) with mains that are really something far below. The food is edible but don’t go expecting something like it was before or even OPM / 5 guys etc.

A Shadow of its former self. Went expecting it not quite to live up to the previous incarnation and it was still disappointing. It appears that the new owners haven't understood what made it special. Stripped back menu, under seasoned food that at best met the standard of 'Meh'. Unlikely to go back, which is upsetting.

Absolutely stunning atmosphere, staff were lovely and friendly and we were served by a cheery chatty lad called Aiden. Top tier food, highly recommend the Bun & Buttermilk, took me by surprise.

Great to have B&B Mk.2 - loved the vibe, food and service from Aidan. Outstanding burgers (The Bun & Bacon probably stole the show), fast, friendly service (18 minutes for 4 burgers and sides from ordering on a packed Friday night) and great lighting. Love the graffiti art on the way in from the street. All in all we're very happy with the reincarnation! Thanks B&B, we'll be back. Often.

We came for dinner! All the food was so tasty and reasonably priced. Every member of staff was so friendly. It was a really nice atmosphere, we will definitely be back again soon.

I'm so happy B&B opened again. The food is delicious. I had a buffalo wing so juicy and a sauce is just perfectly balanced. Great and friendly customer service. If you want good food and nice atmosphere this is the place for you. 5☆- highly recommended 👌 😊

Just left the Bun and Barrel, very please with the atmosphere, food and service. It’s great to have a cool urban place to have really nice food and play pool. The manager was nice and friendly. Really hope they have more pool tables in the future

Burger was tasty but the portion of fries that came with it was very very small, no salt and served cold. The atmosphere was nice and staff were friendly but all a bit chaotic. Overall ok but the quality is not like before as it used to be the best burger place in Birmingham

OMG!! I am so so happy The Bun and Barrel is back open! I came to this place last night for my 21st birthday with my friend from Manchester and both our partners, I was sceptical about coming back as I used to love the B&B before, and was hoping not much had changed. But I was not disappointed, the menu has only been enhanced not changed! The burgers tasted the same if not better with the same quality of meat, I noticed wings had been added and the loaded fries were amazing! I was also glad that they now have a bigger drinks range as I felt that was the only thing that had let the place down previously. But now the spirit range is endless, and I think my sore head this morning explains this as there was so many rum’s I hadn’t heard of that I wanted to try! Thanks to the owners who have reopened my favourite place! And thanks to all staff last night who made my 21st birthday unforgettable! I’ll certainly be back!! P.S love the painting on the wall before you enter!! Picasso eat your heart out!

Oh no 😢 what’s happened? What was once our absolute go to burger place has lost its sparkle. Got to say the new incarnation of the Bun and Barrel was inviting, super friendly and the vibe was the same as it always was. Service was super friendly and attentive, some little tiny issues, but come on it’s new staff and new everything and they dealt with them perfectly. Service for us was great and I want to say thanks to them. Downside is the big one for me, the food was nowhere near the standard as before. The disappointment was huge. I went for the Dip your Brisket, it was so far removed from what it sounded like on the menu, it was essentially a Sunday roast beef with gravy. It tasted pre-made, certainly not the connotations of a Burger restaurant doing Brisket with dipping gravy (I didn’t get any on the side) that I was hoping for, and boy was it tiny! My wife had the veggie burger, now this is a hard one to get right and it’s the only vegetarian option on the menu, the old Bun and Barrel blew her mind here with a mushroom burger, amazing toppings and it was firm menu favourite. It’s now sadly a pre bought frozen chicken substitute type of thing. Seriously poor. Lastly the kids meal, the burger was tasteless, nothing like the meat of old, it was eaten but the patties before were the highlight super tasty, now nothing special at all. The brioche buns on all the mains were not great, nothing like the buns of old which was a real shame. Next up the cheesy bacon fries, sorry guys but have you been to any places that do loaded fries? These were woeful. Some cheddar grated with some bacon bits, on top of basic frozen fries just doesn’t cut it in today’s offerings. This is football stadium food at best. Highlight was the chicken strips, they were good, I opted for 3 on the side, sadly got 2 and a small third of one, buffalo sauce was standard bottled affair. Good crispy coating and enjoyed them. Highlight for our boy was the Jamie Dodger ODI + MOO ice cream so glad you have kept that in the menu, it’s awesome! Pint of attic and ginger beer finished off the meal, at £67 (which we felt was far too expensive for what we had). Last year we had the same amount of meals and a glass of wine and it was £61, yes times are different but the quality of the food from Jamie and co was right up there, and the portion sizes a fair bit bigger. In summary this will read really poorly which is a real shame, I will say the vibe and the friendly service made this place for us originally and that remains, the new additions are welcome and look cool, but they have really missed the point of the concept and that was really good burgers and food with great attention to detail, now we sadly have run of the mill food and that there is a problem with so many great options in Birmingham for much better burgers and fries. I hope you take this well and have a serious look at the food, the ethos is amazing just needs to be executed a lot better…. My old review of Bun and Barrel from its previous owners in 2023 is below. Think of the perfect vibe local bar and burger place that you want to keep going back to, this is it. Service is casual, friendly but professional 👏 Food is totally on point, all made in house and it shines through 👌 Support for local Birmingham companies from Attic Brewery, ODI Moo ice cream and Wine Freedom wines. This isn’t just a marketing thing, these companies are producing great things 😎 Price point is spot on, affordable burger and fries to gourmet burgers and awesome sides. The kids meal is fantastic value as well, the bill is what you make it 🍔🍺 All in all the hype was huge for B&B but rightly so, all involved have nailed it 🙌 P.S. see you soon 🔥

Popped in for a meal with my brother and loved every minute of it! I had The Bun & Buttermilk and he had The Bun & Bacon. It’s been a while since I’ve had such a perfect chicken burger! To top it off, we had 5 tenders (I know, even more chicken) and cheesy bacon fries, food was outstanding across the board. The new decor looks incredible and having a pool table is the icing on the cake! Would recommend to a friend, family member and even an ex-lover.

It reopened today and I'm impressed. The food is as good, if not better. The staff don't seem to know table numbers yet but who cares. They were absolutely lovely. Try it (or go back).

Used to visit b&b frequently before and it was by far the best burger venue in Birmingham, so expectations were high. Had the bun & bacon burger and it was fantastic, just as good as before, if not better. The jalapankos we great and would definitely have again. The only disappointment was the cheese and bacon fries. Previously b&b did a smoked queso fries and these were amazing. These were just some basic fries with some melted cheddar and tiny strips of bacon. On the atmosphere front it was a lot lighter than previous which I think took away from the concept of what the bun & barrel should be. Overall will definitely return! More of a 9/10 than 4/5. They are developing the upstairs room. If it is big enough for some live music/comedy then this could be the single best venue in Birmingham....as long as they bring back the queso fries!

Business is closed, Table booking app not working but appeared open on google maps, arrived at around 2pm today to find the business is closed, tried the doors but locked and no business advertising lighting on. I suggest the website is updated and google maps is updated.

Fabulous burger place tucked away on Harborne high street. I first ate here on the opening night and was totally blown away by the quality of the classic B&B with bacon and cheese. 6 months later I am back and the current Guest Burger (Ooo La La - with onion chutney, brie, truffle mayo, and dijon mustard) was exceptional. A welcome addition to the menu as well were the Loaded Hash browns, which were crispy and packed with different flavours. The people are super friendly, the service is fast, highly recommend giving this place a visit!

The burgers are absolutely cracking. The chef does some wild specials, this time it was Oh La La, French inspired with brie, onion Chutney, truflo mayo, dijon mustard. Wild experience. The loaded hashbrowns were wicked too. The venue is really sound, the people are lovely.

Lovely warm atmosphere, would highly recommend a visit - hope they remain a mainstay of the Harborne strip for many more years! My only suggestion to the owners would be to get some more eye-catching advertisement on the high street as we almost missed you!

Cannot recommend highly enough, I'm not normally a burger person but this won me over. Burgers are incredible and the special at the time was the best burger I've ever had, plus sides are delicious and very creative. Staff were lovely and we are already planning our next visit.

Young waiter spilt drinks on a table next to me. They cleaned up that table but didn't noticed I was wet too. When I said what about me can I have some tissues the grey unshaven manager medium slim build, about 5 foot 9 height over 40ish said I was being rude and came right up to me as if he wanted a fight. I didn't argue back because I didn't want to ruin my night with friends or get hit. Owner of place please reconsider this guy's employment especially if he has caused offense to other people. I was having a great time till this experience happened. I have 3 witnesses. I so wanted this place to do well but now I don't have such positive feelings for the place.

My family's new favourite burger joint! Simple menu of excellent burgers and fries. Fresh and served with a smile. Convenient location on Harborne high street - the downside is no parking.

Really lovely staff and food- could not fault the service or the food. My crab burger was delicious. However we were made to feel very uncomfortable by other customers- still not sure why. Had our 2 boys with us (aged 12 and 9)-both well behaved, but we were noticeably stared at by other customers at the bar area, which my husband and I found v unsettling. We are Asian, and am wondering whether this was because of our skin colour? Also stared at (in not a nice way) by other customers as we left the restaurant.

Just returned from our first visit here... Pretty sad day to be honest (I'll probably never see OPM & Bonehead again 😔) on the plus side this place is superb! From the moment we walked in (the friendly greeting) to the moment we paid ( incredibly reasonable prices) what a lovely experience.. I'm not even hungry anymore but I'd go back immediately... If this is on your doorstep you'd be daft not to try it.. if not the travel is definitely worth while. Thank you Bun & Barrel best burger I've eaten 🤝

Great addition to Harborne. The burgers are superb (as you’d expect from the owner of sister restaurant Harborne Kitchen). Staff are super friendly and attentive. Also great for kids and very reasonably priced for what they get. Thanks to Bella for serving us.

I had the B&B burger and it was excellent. The matchstick potatoes and the pickled cabbage were both delicious and a nice added touch. I think the Bun and Barrel have just joined Original Patty Men as one of the best burgers in Birmingham.

Very good food & great service. Lots of gluten free options, gluten free fries, patties and buns. Was asked about allergens when ordering. Fig leaf gin was great. Very reasonably priced G&T & food.

The drinks are very good with local brews from Brum and Attic. Burgers are good but not exceptional. This is after two visits too. The special of the week has a lot of mustard. Fried pickles were excellent. Beef was ok. Soft shell crab not really anything stand out. The batter on the white bait was very good. Service was brilliant if a little too fast.

Delish! I had the veggie aubergine and halloumi burger which tasted great, stacked up high, the photo doesn’t do it justice! My partner had the guest burger and LOVED it. Fries were also 10/10, especially loaded with kimchi, chilli and blue cheese. Will definitely be back to try the other burgers 😁

Excellent Brummie burger joint! This place has only been open a couple of months when we visited, but the welcome was warm and they took their time with us, especially with me and my disability. The menu is short but well crafted, and using local ingredients and beers - you can see the influence of the people who run Harborne Kitchen. The 'house' B&B burger had juicy patties, matchstick fries and other thoughtful toppings - very tasty! Plenty of options for gluten free and veggies. Service was quick and friendly, and we enjoyed all of it. Reasonably priced food, good drinks, easy accessible facilities, and a pool table at the back - something for everyone! Can't wait to come back!

I only give honest reviews. The excellent bits are.... really friendly welcoming staff, delicious burgers and the Nonna's Ragu fries are perfect. Nice beers and wines. Lush ice cream. Prompt service and a nice atmosphere. The bad bits......none! First class burgers, we will be returning.

A great addition to the high street, love the atmosphere, incrediblly friendly staff but importantly lovely tasting food. The pork/scallop burger was really good, am going back to try the beef burger as have heard wonderful things. Always a joy to support a local independent.
