Really lovely country pub, with a well deserved emphasis on pizza. Highly delicious and fairly priced. Would recommend.

We ordered 2 pizzas, chips and salad and sat in the garden. After 45 mins we had not received the food my husband went inside to let them know we were still waiting and was told that the kitchen was very busy. They didn't ask about our order or give any indication as to when it would be ready. After another 15 mins we decided to cancel the order (we had waited too long and had each finished our 2nd drinks). Whilst cancelling I suggested that if the wait was long we should have been advised of this when ordering. We were told the waiting time was on the board in the garden. Surely the board should have been at the bar to view when ordering. We were offered no apology at any stage. A waitress came to say our order had just gone out to our table but we again asked for a refund. They did offer to put the pizzas in takeaway boxes which we declined and again asked for a refund. We were made to feel that the whole episode had been our fault.

Terrible service, rude staff, cold rubbery food. This place used to be great a long time ago but it’s gone seriously downhill. Would never waste money here again and I live round the corner. Staff uninterested, don’t care and poor attitudes. Food was as bad as I’ve tasted recently. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Don’t go at the weekend. We waited 60mins for our pizzas. I spoke to the assistant manager about how disappointed we were and he made no attempt at an apology but instead listed the reasons why the food was late. I asked to speak to the Manager at which point the landlord/owner arrived and again gave a long list of reasons why the food was taking so long - eventually a half hearted apology was offered. I asked that in future he gets his staff to warn customers that there may be a wait and that staff should visit tables with a quick update and apology when delays are experienced . Overall it felt like they really didn’t care given the place is very busy and ideal for families with young children. Just make sure the kids aren’t too hunger cause they’ll have to wait if it’s a busy weekend.

Great outside space to stop off with bikes, grab a cool drink. Don’t go for the food cause the pizzas are awful but billed like they should be gourmet.

Really liked it here, the beer we had, Hopadelic IPA, was great - seemed really well looked after and the pizza we had, Hot and Spicy, was delicious - staff were also lovely - really nice place, not complicated like some Sussex country pub; also, it's by the river Adur, which, in summer, could make a rather nice pre/post pub walk.

Just spent a lovely evening with colleagues here. Beautiful food, we had the pizza buffet, there was plenty to go around and the staff were excellent. Highly recommend.

Had to leave a review regarding recent experience at this pub. The Staff were very welcoming and pub seemed to have a good vibe but the food is truly horrific. I ordered a half pounder burger for £15.95 and got served two bits of hard rubbery meat absolutely shocking pictures attached It was that bad dog didn't even want it.

My Husband and I came in early the other day for lunch. This pub did not disappoint! Food was DELICIOUS, I had the hot and spicy pizza and my husband had the chicken burger. Lovely pub and the servers are superb! Had a very courteous young lad Euen serve us who after having a nice conversation that made the table feel very welcome went above and beyond to serve our table. Even making sure our dogs were happy and well fe! Really makes all the difference when the staff have good manners. Real country pub feel to this place, cozy and warm with a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be returning here soon indeed!👍🏽

Awful, awful, awful in every way! Terrible, rude, unconcerned manager and staff. Doughy cold pizza, greasy chips and factory made burger. Horrible. Homemade coleslaw? I don't think so!! I will never eat here again and I'm a local......but when I complained they said they don't care about locals!! What a way to treat customers. Never again.

Wow The Bull really has gone to the dogs! I’ve been a patron for 20 years and today sealed my decision to never return very sad as the pub is less than half a mile from our house. Terrible food, even worse service and the behaviour from the manager was quite frankly disgusting. Not only that but one of the bartenders told us “we don’t care if you’re local or not, the community doesn’t matter to us it’s just about making money in this economic climate”. WOW that’s the attitude to take. FOOD WAS AWFUL, SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE, STAFF ATTITUDES DISGRACEFUL. Disgusting behaviour all round.

Lovely children's play area. Lovely staff Pizzas were ok and good choice but absolutely extortionate. Large pizza (honestly not actually that large) was about £20. I ordered a medium thinking for £15 it's got to be a decent size and I could of eaten it twice over! We'd go again but I wouldn't have another pizza there, not worth the money I'm afraid.

Lovely food very generous portions, friendly staff ,great place with kids ,the only thing I would say is need a disability ramp to get in the front door

We went for a very long walk prior to our lunch, and by the time we arrived at The Bull, we were ready for a good lunch, before having to walk home. The staff were very welcoming, and gave us fantastic service throughout our visit. I had a great pint of the 360° ale, and my wife had 1664 lager. My wife ordered a homemade pizza which came piping hot, and was quickly polished off! I had the half pound burger which was tasty, but I was disappointed it wasn’t homemade, which I would have expected in an inn of this quality (interestingly the onion rings were homemade and were delightful) However my whole meal was tasty.

We're local and have been eating the Bull pizzas for years. they used to be good but now awful.. came here for a family get together recently and everyone was in agreement. Pizza bases are sooooo dry (probably bought in frozen), your jaw will be numb by the time you've finished eating. toppings all bland and the cheapest ingredients you can imagine. The worst however was my wife's seafood pizza which was nothing more than a cold, dry can of tuna dumped on top of a basic pizza after it was cooked. The desserts were alright and the waiting staff attentive, but honestly go to One-Stop and buy the cheapest pizza you can find and it will be as nice if not better than these

Second visit to this lovely pub but certainly not the last. Pizza selection second to none and so so delicious. Lovely to be able to choose size of pizza. You’ll never buy frozen again when you’ve tasted these. Lovely friendly staff and great play area and garden outside. Can’t wait to visit again.

Have been before and no major issues. But this evening it is obvious there has been a huge shift in the standard and quality of food and service. No real experienced adult supervision. Those that are there were attentive but can’t really deal with the issues except to say they’ll pass it on. The dough was poor and for a pizza pub you would expect better. Too many choices and the main ingredient ie: goats cheese was lacking in quantity. The dough then wasn’t cooked properly and all pizzas had raw dough around the outer ring of the pizza. The dough was soft where it was cooked. Overall disappointing and doubt we’ll return. They charge the same as artisan pizzas from the pizza van but the dough they use is crispy and better quality.

Me and my partner dinned at The Bull last night. We both had pizzas and garlic bread to start and they were fantastic. Will defiantly be coming back and bringing our family. The staff were also super polite and helpful. We had a great night!

If you are hungry you will not starve, our plate was overflowing. We both had a burger and chips, to be honest the burger and bacon were both overcooked but edible, have had better, plenty of chips, coleslaw etc. pizzas looked good, if we pass this way again we might try them! Staff lovely, friendly and made us feel welcome, garden looks lovely for a summer visit.

We took a large group of young adults with learning difficulties for a skittles evening with Pizza. It was a great evening with great food and very friendly staff. Access was good and toilets were good.We all had a great time and will go again soon.

I took a friend to lunch this week at The Bull. It was only a light lunch and we didn’t have loads of time so decided to just have a sandwich. We were the only people in the place when we ordered but it took an age for our order to come. A prawn sandwich and a tuna panini. The prawn sandwich was a major disappointment. The bread was sliced in inch thick slices and the prawns barely had any sauce on them and you couldn’t actually pick up to eat as they just fell out of the sandwich. £17 for two sandwiches and two soft drinks was disappointing.

i have just returned from The Bull. We ordered four pizzas. Three were acceptable. The fourth pizza was supposed to be chicken yet did not seem to have any chicken on it. I pointed this out to the waitress who claimed to be the manager. I told her that we would not be paying for this pizza as it had no chicken on it. She shouted over me while I was pointing this out. Half of the price of the pizza was deducted from the bill. The waitress then told me that I was blackmailing her to get a free pizza! This is a disgraceful way to treat customers. No wonder the restaurant was half empty on a Saturday night. We will never go back to this place and I wish I had read the other customer reviews before I went there.

I booked a table for four people for Saturday night using the pubs online booking service. I received confirmation of my booking some hours later. On arrival at the pub this evening they had no record of my booking, but managed to still fit us in. We were offered drinks and given the menus. All four of us decided on the ‘famous’ pub pizzas. My wife was undecided and so asked the duty managed who was serving us for a recommendation for a bbq chicken style pizza. Our x4 pizzas arrived a short time later and at first all appeared to be fine. My wife’s recommended pizza was massively lacking in any chicken and had large square lumps of smokey cheese and after a few mouthfuls wasn’t very nice at all. The duty managed returned to the table and asked if all was ok. By this time x3 of us had finished our meals, however my wife’s pizza 3/4 left was discussed with her. My wife said that the pizza was lacking in chicken and generally not very nice. The duty manager also made mention of the lack of chicken on the pizza and so returned to the kitchen, still leaving the pizza on our table. She then immediately returned explaining that the chicken was under the large square lumps of cheese!!! No it wasn’t. We then explained that we weren’t having anymore of it and that we were happy to pay for the other x3 pizzas but not this one. The duty manager collected the plates and offered us the dessert menu. We explained we didn’t want anything else and requested the bill. As the bill arrived the duty managed explained that she was only taking 50% off my wife’s pizza and that she wouldn’t be offering anything else. We questioned this and explained that the pizza was not as it had been advertised or recommended and therefore wouldn’t be willing to pay for it. We did say that we were more than happy to pay for the others. The full price of this pizza was £10.75. One of our party explained that by not offering a full discount on the not eaten pizza would result in negative reviews and us not returning to which the reply from the duty manager was, ‘you can’t Blackmail us to get a free pizza..’ spoken loudly so others in the pub could clearly hear. This was a shock to hear and quite frankly was embarrassing and very unprofessional.. We were shocked at this type of accusation and decided to pay the bill and leave immediately..... I have been to this pub over a number of years and am extremely shocked at the way I was made to feel. We were purely pointing out the poorly prepared pizza and that we didn’t feel it was worth paying for. We did not refuse to pay for any of the other food consumed. We won’t be returning to this pub and hope that our review will give others a warning of the lack of customer care and the poor food served at this pub. This could also explain the pubs lack of customers on a Saturday evening!!!

Very disappointing. Spoke to the staff about being coeliac however they would not change their gloves to handle gluten free. Terrible! Lost a customer who used come regularly when things were done with a bit of care.

Wonderful little pub... complete hidden gem... amazing food... I'm not a pizza person but their pizzas are out of this world... a good drink and a game of skittles can not be missed...

We've visited The Bull a few times, the staff are friendly and accommodating, even when we show up before opening! The ride from Portslade to Henfield is great, a nice place to stop in on your ride through the area.

Great outdoor space. A little tired indoors. The focus of the food is the pizza menu and with good reason as they're excellent! Nice and friendly service and nice ales on tap.

So....have been looking for a local pub that sells good old traditional pub nosh. Did some googling and discovered the Bull Inn...not too far away.

Came in here as a family. Service and food were both amazing. We were served quickly and food tasted great. Definitely recommend as a good family friendly pub.

After booking a table in advance, we arrived to find a chaotic bar. We went to the empty restaurant part which had a sign saying 1 hour + for food. We stood and waited around 5 minutes to be served. When saying we had a table booked we were told it was taken already and we had to wait. Another 5 minutes passed and then they said they were clearing number 18 for us. Then 5 minutes later they said it was ready, they didn’t tell us where table 18 was. At this point we had been waiting 15 minutes. By this point we were front of the food ordering queue and they then said they ran out of menus so we couldn’t order as we didn’t know what the choice was! At this point we walked out and went elsewhere. Absolute joke of a restaurant and if this is how they do business then they will soon be out of business. Treat your customers better and then they may come back!

Very disappointed, we were the only customers but had to wait over 45 minutes for two full English breakfasts.... when they arrived on freezing cold plates, no apology for the wait. Fried egg needed a steak knife to cut it, the sausage was microwaved to death, mushrooms were cold & swimming in butter, bacon virtually raw, and after about 5 minutes everything was cold due to the cold plate.

We have used The Bull over years for family meals and celebrations and the food has always been great and the service good. However we visited on Friday 30th August and were not impressed. It was not busy and we were the biggest group there of 6.

We moved to Henfield in March and decided to have our sons 2nd birthday party at The Bull after hearing of its function room and amazing pizza buffet! And I honestly couldn’t fault it, the function room with skittles alley was perfect venue for this family party, kids ranging from 6 months to 15 years and adults with dietary needs, vegans and veggies and not a single complaint! Food was fab, so many different pizza combinations, my fave was the ‘Quackers’ which is duck with plum sauce, spring onions on a pizza, I was sceptical but mind blown once I had tried it! My fiancé’s fave was the jerk chicken, my son (bare in mind he was 2) was the trio of sausage! Highly recommend!! My only criticism was that when it’s very hot there was little/no relief even when opening the back doors to our own private garden area. We could have done with a fan or two! But take it the building is probably too old to have air con installed - relatively minor ‘complaint’ didn’t effect the fab service or food we received!

We used to come here all of the time, but it has really gone down hill, it was my father in laws birthday so he booked it as it’s in the middle of everyone & has a great garden for the kids to run around in.

The Bull used to be a great pub with a reputation for freshly made pizzas. That is clearly not the case now.

Proper nice evening! Staff were lovely and pizza was good! The wait time was high however they were busy and we were happy to wait in the lovely garden.

We visited for the first time since last year. There were many cars in the park but few people in the pub - they must have all been in the garden. Before we ordered, the waiting time board read "0" but after ordering, it became 1 hour ! If it had been this before we ordered, we would have left.

Been here a few times recently with friends. Nice cosy pub and lovely big garden. The food is excellent and at a reasonable price. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. Well done Landlord

We booked ahead as we were bringing a group of 16 for a family birthday. The pub requested that we pre-order and so we did. Mostly pizzas chosen and they didn't disappoint. Very good and filling portions. That being said, the feta salad looked incredible. The evening was topped off with an hour's rent of the skittle alley and a beer next to the great play equipment.

Waited nearly 2 hrs for food. Couldnt eat together as food came with 30min intervals. Lack of structure and overview. No sense of urgency. Hungry children in tears. No compensation for the long wait. Nice location. Room for improvement.

Waited over 2 hours for food, appalling service! Then eventually our food came out one dish at a time, really disappointed and ruined our family lunch.

Today we visited this establishment as we had very good pizzas there in the past. We ordered a duck pizza and a Neptune pizza (prawn and tuna). Having seen from the memu that it included black pepper we specifically ordered it WITHOUT BLACK PEPPER. When it arrived the duck pizza was delicious but the Neptune pizza was swamped in black pepper after having specifically asked no pepper. We only managed half of it as it was so dreadfully over-peppered and quite unpleasant. We managed half of the Neptune pizza but you couldn’t taste the prawns and tuna, only the pepper. After complaining afterwards, we expected a small reduction in the bill but nothing was forthcoming just a disinterested shrug from the people behind the bar. We definitely wont be going back there again. So be warned, if you don’t like black pepper, don’t order the Neptune pizza without pepper, as the chef will totally ignore your request.

This is one of the best places we have ever been for a meal. The staff , service ,food,were out of the world great.

What a beautiful spot, right in the middle of glorious countryside. The garden is huge, with a large children's playground, but big enough not to be bothered by it. Lovely food and very nice service.

Went her recently, stuff are not very nice, the pizzas are so overpriced its ridiculous, And they aren't even that tasty. great outside area for kids so it's a shame about everything else.

It's always busy and they always get the food out on the quoted time on the blackboard when you order (30 mins today with a mostly full garden), the staff are helpful and the range of pizzas is very good and they are always tasty.

Visited over the week end ,had hoped to sit in the garden but was just a little chilly ,however had a table inside .The service was good with friendly staff ,we enjoyed the pizzas and I found a new favourite beer from the greyhound brewery - which was a bonus .Will be back when the sun comes out to enjoy the garden

Mid afternoon trip out for drinks in a beer garden, possibly some food. Chose The Bull as the garden is huge.

We were looking forward to a nice evening at The Bull going out for a pizza and a few drinks as a couple. Unfortunately the bar staff were terrible and ruined the whole experience for us, although the restaurant staff were ok. We are local but we will never go there again. We waited over 20 minutes to order each set of drinks, which we found to be an extremely stressful battle waiting to get served and it ruined the whole experience for us. In the end we resorted to demanding they would serve us rather than what they were doing flitting about behind the bar. We could not wait to leave the pub and go home so we could make our own drinks exactly as we want them, when we want them, cheaper and with no stress. What a shame they ruined an evening out that we had been looking forward to, well we won’t make that mistake ever again, there are plenty of other places to go for drinks and a nice meal.

We've always enjoyed your pizzas and, when we visit in future, it's what we'll choose.

We came here on a recommendation and we wasn't disappointed. My son and I shared a large Spanish pizza with some cheesy chips. Both were lovely. Well cooked and tasty. My wife had the ribs, coleslaw and fries which she said was good.

Have always loved the general Vibe this place has had over the years. Everyone is helpful, friendly and will always cater for fussy eaters. All food Is delicious highly recommend.

Just had a pizza tonight again and it was so good, medium size is perfect, not too much, not too little!

This used to be a great pizza pub. Last night the service and food were both diabolical. Greasy, cold garlic bread for starter that took 45 mins to arrive, bland, over cooked chilli and rice for main that made me feel ill in the middle of the night. We didn’t stay for desert, couldn’t even if we had wanted to as the pub was closing up around us. Won’t be rue hing back! Such a shame.

We've been going to the Bull for years, and have always had good pub food. Our recent visit was very disappointing. Vegi chilli was tasteless and couldn't find any chilli taste in it, other than on the three tortilla chips shoved in the top! The Bull burger was burnt and the bun was over cooked and tough. Didn't feel welcome and felt the staff couldn't wait for the customer to leave. I think we'll be striking this old favourite off our list from now on

Have been here many times before . Last night we were meeting friends . Used to have waitresses service not any more, we had booked a table which was good as they seem to be busy. It was by the bar people queuing to order drinks and food right behind us ,so very noisy, only one person behind the bar. Nobody seemed to be helping her. Bar staff throwing empty bottles in a waste bin when we complained, raised eyebrows and seemed to find it funny. Food took a time to come. Then someone trying to play a piano the sound was terrible so again had to ask someone if they could as the person to stop. I don't mind people having a good time but when you are trying to have conversion and can't hear each other it spoilt the evening. We won't be going again .

Where's the passion for PIZZA gone folks?

OK. Let's get the gripe out of the way first. I like chips, I don't like fries, skinny fries or French fries. If it says chips on the menu I assume that they're chips: fat wedges of fried potato - not thin, irrelevant scraps of potato. The menu said 'chips' I got 'fries' - had I known I would have ordered a salad. I didn't complain (on the basis that perhaps I should have asked in the first place) and did eat them - I was hungry. But I'd have preferred chips - or a salad. OK, grizzle over.

Lovely pub, with a nice garden and delicious pizzas. Good selection of Pizzas (would have liked one or two more vegetarian options).

Live local and have visited several times in the past 12mths. Not the cheapest night out for a family of four but a good menu selection and the desserts went down well with the kids. It was a Tuesday evening so fairly quiet so service was fine and had a choice of tables. Food came quickly and no complaints with the base or toppings as you can see from the photos. Suspect it might be related how busy the place is. Can get rammed at weekends and sunny evenings, like most country pubs.

Well I'm NOT a person to normally complain, however, in this instance thought it prudent to forewarn anybody considering going there for a "bite to eat."

We visited on a Sunday afternoon in July and arrived 2pm and thought a nice garden area was needed and The Bull Inn has that. Our food was Pizza and Salad which were nice and reasonably priced. I would return in the future and menu has decent enough variety.

This was our first visit and we were very impressed with the food, service and accomodating staff. There were 15 of us and we really didn’t have to wait to long for ordering and our food, considering how busy it was. The food was lovely and the garden is a great space for the kids to play.

Stopped here after visting Henfield to test drive a vehicle. We have a 15week old puppy so we were mindful of finding a pub that welcomed dogs. We phoned in advance and were told dogs are very much welcomed. The lady asked how many we were, and I replied two adults, two children and a puppy. She said she would have a table ready for us. When we arrived at the pub, walking in the door we noticed a table for 4 in the window the the right, so assumed it was for us. I walked to the bar to ask, and the lady asked my name, I said I wasn't asked that on the phone and explained I was asked how many of us. She said we couldn't have the table in the window as it was reserved for someone else, the table they offered us was a small table which would have been a squeeze for the 4 of us to eat comfortably at, and it was next to a long table where 12 people were sitting and a lady in the party said 'oh dogs aren't allowed in here are they' which made us feel uneasy from the off. I said to the lady that we would order food and wait in the garden as we didn't want our puppy to cause undue trouble for other visitors. We were told there would be a wait of 40 mins for the food. After about 30mins I went back into the bar, but noticed there were 3 people sitting at the table I'd been told was for us. I asked behind the bar what was happening, to be told 'we didn't think you wanted the table' I then looked over to the table in he window, and this was still empty, so I asked if we could sit there, as it was away from everyone else, sort of tucked in he corner. Again the reply was 'no it's reserved for someone' Now at this point if I hadn't paid for our food already I would have left the pub immediately, but we were tied in with the food purchase. The food did come out on time, the 40min wait was correct. We ordered garlic bread with cheese (Decent enough) and chips with cheese (anemic chips with a smattering of cheese and some random peas dotted here and there) I had a large pizza (was quite tasty and a decent size) Wife had burger and chips (Burger was 'fairground fodder' and again anemic chips with random peas dotted about) both kids had sausage and chips (OK but dreadful chips again) I sometimes wish we weren't so 'British' and we complained when we found food not up to the standard we expected, but considering the 40min wait we'd already had and it was raining in the garden we couldn't muster up the strength to complain. We finished our food and walked back through the pub as we were parked in the car park at the front. To my annoyance the table in the window was still empty, so it had been for the entirety of our visit. I must question why our original table was given away to someone else (OK it wasn't an ideal size for us but it wasn't out in the rain in the freezing garden) yet the window table for 4 we had asked to sit at remained empty the entire time we were there. As I was getting our puppy into his crate in the rear of my car I saw a family of 4, two young girls sit at the window table. Not a Father's Day to remember for the meal. We may return to Henfield as we were told there are some nice dog walks in the area, but I'd only visit here for a drink as they allow dogs, not for food. Very disappointed with the older lady behind the bar who didn't seem to want to help in the table issue. The younger girl who served me was very nice and chatty. The food was well below par for what we paid IMHO

Just moved to Henfield so we thought we would give The Bull a try for a pizza.

Pizzas good, burgers good, in fact very well rated by our kids. The garden is much improved and is kept looking neat and tidy and the function room is good too.

Came here on Bank Holiday Monday with my family for some drinks and lunch.

Nice pizza, and generous portions. I had a half and half pizza and whilst the Spanish (chorizo and sun dried tomatoes) was delicious, I wasn't so keen on the Jamaican (jerk chicken) half - the jerk sauce seemed a bit powdery in a way? Though we didn't sit in the garden I had a little peek and it looks lovely! I would come again.

We had a fantastic skittles event last night. Lots of well kept beers. Harvey’s IPA, Darkstar.

Four adults, and our dog, had a very nice pizza, dessert and a drink here today, Sunday 15 April for my granddaughter’s 19th birthday. As we sat down a young man came with a bowl of water for the dog and a dog biscuit which was a nice touch. We were served by two lovely young ladies who were very helpful and efficient. It was just a pity about the older miserable lady behind the bar who I don’t think knew how to smile. A family with young children came in and sat at the table behind us. She came over and asked them if they had reserved the table. They said no so she asked them to leave saying it was reserved. There was no reserved sign on the table. As they left, they said how rude she was. They also said they wouldn’t be back. There is a way of explaining things without offending people and I think she could do with some training in diplomacy.
