Abosultley charming place to visit, love the restaurant, love the outside seating and glass hideaway at the rear. Friendy staff, great food and a good wine selection also. There are 3 pubs in this village and this is by far the best of them all.

On 26th October, my son and his wife got married at your venue. It was a glorious day and I felt that the staff went out of their way to make sure everything went well and without any hitches. The venue is beautiful, the food excellent - sticky toffee pudding to die for - the bedrooms and bathrooms were spotless and even the weather was kind to us. I can highly recommend it as a wedding venue. And a special thank you to Mary for finding paracetamol for the bride.

Be advised: if you have allergies, DO NOT EAT HERE. They are not equipeed or trained to cater for people with allergies or intollerances, which shouldn't be a problem in 2023! I wished this place would be good as my fiancée and I were looking to get married in their Buttery and Glasshouse. However, we were left extremely dissapointed and shocked at their incompetence and dishonesty. Despite mentioning MULTIPLE times we had two dairy allergies in our party, we were served food caked in butter. What's worse is after querying what looked like butter on the plate, I asked the server to double check with the kitchen and was then assured that nothing was cooked in butter. I trusted this knowledge that she had checked with the kitchen. Only 5 minutes later, AFTER I had begun to eat, the plate whisked away from me, with another server stating it did, in fact, contain butter. I felt betrayed and that I had been lied to on a serious matter. The blatant disregard for allergies and their clients' health aside, the food was average at best and over priced.

I had a good time in the bar, which I visited between 5 and about 7. But that isn't to say I'd recommend it. The good time was had because the staff were a laugh, especially the two ladies who were a bit older than the very young ones. But a lot of the humour came from the mild air of chaos around the place--confusion about names of drinks, taps with a life of their own, slow or malfunctioning card machine. Nonetheless, the drinks were good. Excellent cider from Yarde; and they served Siren ales, one of my favourite breweries. When the kitchen opened, I ordered a burger. Not cheap at £17. That's OK, I thought--they've got 4 stars. But maybe that emboldened them to charge top dollar for what was a poor effort. Bacon was overcooked; chips were low quality; and there was no salad. (Supposed to be gherkins on the burger, but I had just two limp bits of gherk.) Ah well, you win some, you lose some. My suggestion, on this evidence? Go for drinks; enjoy the friendly staff; maybe skip the bar food.

Not on the best of runs at the moment.😕 When eating out in the current climate you want something exceptional over what you could cook at home. A bit off the beaten track this venue has a nice outside dining area especially in the summer. Staff were plentiful and generally attentive. Menu is very limited - if you dont like asparagus you might be stuck. Dishes generally £20 a head for mains but what are minimal dishes in terms of quantity and not standout in terms of quality or presentation. A few fresh bread rolls wouldnt go amiss. Throw a few drinks in, dessert etc and you're talking £50 a head. It's a shame. Venue has potential given the layout and buildings but the cuisine not sufficiently good value or exceptional to lift it to the next level.

We had a kingsize room with 4 poster for the 1 night we stayed. The bed was NEARLY as comfy as ours a home (and everyone loves their own bed don't they!). The room was really large, as was the bathroom, clean and just lovely. No noise from the corridors in the middle of the night as we've experienced in lots of other places. Couldn't fault it. The bar staff downstairs were excellent, very friendly, offering drinks when they noticed ours needed a refill - excellent customer service. Food in the restaurant was very nice indeed. We booked for lunch and was shown to the table. One of my guests sat down and removed his napkin to find a dead fly underneath.Sunday roast was priced at £23. My guest wanted wine and was advised by Martin of a good wine priced at £36 a bottle. Disappointed was an understatement as it tasted like weak Rubens and 9% abv. When the Sunday lunch arrived it was served in bowls so you had to eat the food on top before you could even see what was underneath. For dessert I ordered the cheese board priced at £11. Once again it was served in a bowl with 4 crackers and 3 small triangles of cheese and no butter. We booked via open table and they asked for a review. I basically said what I have said above and the comment from the restaurant was “Tom Kerridges restaurant charges £66 for a main meal”. If I was going to Tom Kerridge’s restaurant maybe I could expect to pay that amount and I’m sure it would be worth every penny. If the restauranteur wants to compare food and prices I can tell him that I went to restaurant in Sevenoaks last month and the cheese board had double the amount of cheeses and crackers, all for £5.50, and the menu had a lot more choice and was far better value.

Before the pandemic and lockdowns we were a regular customer of The Bull. Tonight we thought we’d give their takeaway artisan pizzas. We hoped they’d be good, we weren’t disappointed, actually we were blown away by them. We had a Truffled Pommes Anna (garlic creme fraiche base, confit potatoes, anchovies, chives and truffle oil) and a Rowan’s a Fun Guy (tomato base, wild mushrooms, smoked pancetta, Parmesan and tarragon), they were devine! We both had the pleasure of eating pizza in Italy on the Amalfi coast which we rate as the best pizza we’d ever eaten and we’d easily put The Bull a close second to that. Although if we tasted them side by side I think we could easily find that The Bull’s pizza would give them a good run for the money! We will be back!

My wife and I have just returned from having a lunch there; our first dining out since before the lockdown. We are big fans of barbecue so we opted to give the Bull in Wrotham a try as we live in Tonbridge. We booked for an early (12:00pm) lunch. When we arrived the restaurant was deserted and there appeared to be only one server on duty but he was courteous and efficient and got our drinks order quickly. I am a big fan of Chapel Down's Curious Brew which they had on draught but it didn't seem to have the crispness it usually has. We ordered a shared starter, the Spicy bean nacho's. As a longtime former resident of Texas I have pretty high standards when it comes to Tex-Mex staples. My wife's plate was greasy and had a hair on it - a bit shocking in these pandemic-conscious times! Furthermore, this particular incarnation appeared to be supermarket corn tortilla chips with some kidney beans and chickpeas mixed with a barbecue sauce and a few half-hearted crumbs of mature cheddar. I was underwhelmed. We followed this with their beef brisket sandwich prepared in their on-site smoker. This was the really disappointing dish. The fries were nice and hot but the beef brisket looked and tasted like it had been prepared last weekend and warmed up in a microwave. Very tough and very dry. The pickled red cabbage added nothing to the dish and we left without trying desert. I understand this was just one meal and perhaps we caught them on a bad day. I cannot fault the service which was prompt and friendly. He would've have gotten a large tip had they not already added a 9.99%(?) gratuity to our bill. In the end over £55 for some lackluster nacho's, two dry brisket sandwiches and a pint and a half of Curious Brew. A little steep and a lot disappointing.

The accompanying chips and peppercorn sauce very good as was my wife fish dish.Service was friendly and efficient and food is cooked to order so don't expect a quick meal - they do advertise that on the menu. Tables were spaced well and the restaurant felt COVID prepared. On the downside, there were quite a few wasps so take insect repellant (if you're lucky enough to sit outside) and without the Eat Out to Help Out scheme it would have been quite pricey for what it was.Other than that they handled Gluten-free well and we look forward to returning so can definitely recommend.

We visited the Bull for my 30th birthday after several recommendations. I personally wouldn't class it as a restaurant, just a nice pub. TLDR;Food - 8/10Service - 5/10Atmosphere - 1/10The food for me personally was good on the whole. I had the 12hr Pork belly which was amazing (I would recommend the red slaw with this one), the sticky toffee which was ok but not microwaved evenly, there were a couple of cold spots, and the same for the other desert we ordered (bread and butter pudding). the B&B pudding was worse off than the sticky toffee. As we had a taxi en route we just ate the deserts, we didn't want to wait for new ones to come out.Starters I shared nachos and the chicken wings with my sister. The chicken wings were great but for the price of the nachos I expected a little more. No guacamole etc, just beans and cheese (and nachos). The nachos tasted amazing, but it is a very small portion.Absolutely no veg served with any of the mains, which for the prices I would expect some veg to come out. Come to think of it there wasn't even any garnish on any of the food! Overall, food ok. Cocktails nice but I had to wait quite a while for mine to come out to start with, which was long after the other two drinks were served.Be ware - there was a chap who recommended a glass of wine with dinner, which he failed to mention costs £13 a glass!! If we were in a fine dining restaurant perhaps this would be expected but in a pub - NO! We didn't ask the price, but at the same time we really should have been told the cost of this wine as it is well over the £7-9 you'd expect to pay for a glass. We could have ordered a bottle of house red for the price we paid for 2 glasses. This is really what tipped my experience over the edge to be honest and really left a bad taste.Atmosphere rubbish. Service not worth the service charge. (We told the waitress it was my 30th birthday and nothing was done or even offered). Generally a 'meh' experience which I feel was overpriced in general. To top it all off, we left the bill about £1.50 short of the optional service charge (in fact this was by accident), but this was questioned by the waitress which I actually found to be shocking!!If no service charge was on the bill, and we had not left a tip - then no waitress in their right mind would come asking if there was an issue and why didn't we leave a tip. I don't see why this is any different just because the service charge is applied automatically. What a nice end to the evening - not. I felt like asking for a refund of the entire service charge at this point. If you're looking for an expensive pub with decent food - this is the place.Nothing horrendously negative, but in general very disappointed. If anyone is reading this and swaying between here and the Hilltop for a propert restaurant experience, absolutely go for the hilltop. I wish I had, as this dinner was a for a big birthday, which I know would have been made special at the hilltop.Would I visit again? - Probably, but not for a special occasion.

We go out a few times a year with our friends. They are our really good friends and we like to eat at nice places when we go out. This place is nice quaint. The staff were friendly but the service was really slow. We got there at 7.15 for our 7.30 table ordered drinks and waited for menus. Eventually they came. Then we ordered dinner and it took 50 minutes before the starters came out. I had nachos and was sharing with my friend. Due to the cost I expected it to be a plate with the nachos beans and cheese. There was no salsa no guacamole and no sour cream. It was the tiniest pot of nachos I’ve ever seen. All in all a bit of a let down. Then our mains came out. They were superb. I had beef rib fries and the lettuce with garlic oil and parmesan shavings. My friend had the same but with Mac and cheese. My husband had the sirloin as they had run out of the Welsh wagyu steak that he wanted. He said it was good but not great. My other friend had the cod loin. All 4 dishes were certainly better than the starters. The deserts were ok. Christmas pudding, sticky toffee pudding and my husband had ice cream. The company for us is always what’s important but when you are going to put on quite a big service charge make sure your giving the service. Almost £18 on top of the bill. For any table smaller than a table of 8 it should be left to our discretion what we pay for the service. I so wish that the food was worth what we paid. But the starters let it down as did the very long wait.

My particular favourites are the Korean Chicken Wings and the Gloucester Old Spot Pork Chop with barbecued corn and fries. That said the dishes from the skmokehouse are all first rate too. Portions are large and so I never get around to having a dessert. They serve real ale but what is striking is that the pub was once the haunt of Spitfire Pilots from the squadron based at West Malling. Phots adorn the wall and you just have to go and speak with the owner about the ceiling. I will leave yhis as a surprise.

this was our 2nd time staying here, as we have family nearby. Its pretty comfortable, reasonable price, food fine. We stayed on 20th June. We decided to eat in the restaurant downstairs. Food was fine. Service was pretty good. However, when we went to pay for the meal, I realised the bill was a lot higher than it should have been. I asked the person serving (a guy, well dressed, prob mid/late 20s, may have been the head waiter/manager) was there an error with our bill. He said no. I asked to see the receipt (I was paying at the counter) and they had added I think about 12.5% 'service charge'. When I advised this was not listed on the menu and was not advised at any point to us (he tried to say it was) and what he was doing was essentially stealing from me, he then suggested it was 'discretionary'. We were going to tip anyway, so he had no need to steal from us. He then said he would take it off the bill 'if we really wanted to'. I told him to keep it and said he wouldn't be getting tipped and we wouldn't be back. We were going to take a drink in the bar, but we went to a lovely local down the road instead. We stayed overnight and left early next morning. We travel to the area now twice a year, but we will never step foot in there again.

We stayed for 1 night and enjoyed the hi experience. Though the 'courtyard' is not a garden it was nice enough for a drink. We had a nice dinner, in fact the onglet steak was superb. I have to say that the wines are expensive. The room was OK though the bed and the shower room were tiny. Summary, high prices but good quality food. On the other hand breakfast was chaotic, the service was pleasant but lacking in timeliness. Additionally there was a problem with very hot and really quite cold items on the plate. The sausage and eggs were very hot the beans cold and the bacon, mushroom and tomato lukewarm! Hey ho!

Had a lovely Sunday lunch. I’ve been here a few times and it never disappoints. Three of us had the Roast lamb (beautiful flavour and tender), my sister had the fish and chips, Dad had the sea trout and Mum had the Onglet Steak. Everyone commented on how good the food was. The staff were friendly and helpful. A really lovely afternoon, started inside but then sat outside for coffee. It’s very close to the M20 and M26 so very convenient for everyone. Hope to be back soon.

My wife and I came here for a Sunday evening meal, we'd been several times before and always enjoyed it, but this was special. The lovely lady looking after us could not have been more helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. My wife's fish and chips had to be the best around, really fresh fish, just the right amount of skinny chips, tartare sauce that must have been home made. I had the pulled pork burger, french fries and salad, this last was outstanding, lots of really interesting ingredients (pomegranate seeds, various unusual radishes) and not the usual pile of lettuce and tomato. And I'm afraid we went overboard and shared a pistachio knickerbocker glory - utterly brilliant and (again) interesting ingredients right to the bottom of the glass. Apparently the chef only makes what he likes, and it shows! Incidentally there is a list of interesting beers (I had Weird Beard, ideal for a warm summer's evening, cool and citrussy). To top it all, the waitress came out into the car park just to say cheerio to us as she was looking after another customer as we left the restaurant! Many thanks to all of you, we will be back soon!

We were rudely rushed... As always the food here was lovely. We had the fish and chips and the burger. However, staff were obviously in a rush for us to leave, breathing an obvious sigh of relief amongst themselves and loudly stating 'no that's it they don't want desert' at the desk. Then when my partner went to use the toilet on our way out we were followed by a lady wanting to lock the door behind us who was clearly put out that he was using the facilities. We were barely out the door when she was shutting and locking it behind us. Our booking was 7.30pm and we were out of the building by 8.45pm...so it was hardly a drawn out visit! It was a real shame on fathers day celebrating our soon to arrive baby bump.

Large car park. Dining is divided between tables in the restaurant and bar. We were seated in the restaurant end but felt the decor there was fairly boring and dull. The bar area tables however look far more attractive and inviting. Visited early on a Sunday evening for a roast dinner which features on their Sunday menu. Unfortunately all four roast`s offered had finished along with Fish & Chips. We were left with a very poor choice therefore. We selected a steak and ham, egg & chips. The meals were tasty but there were no vegetables with the steak, just chips and sauces. The ham was plentiful and tasty with the chips served in a miniature metal bucket. The staff were friendly. helpful and apologetic saying it had been a very busy service all day. Couldn`t help but be disappointed though as we had only gone for the roast dinner in the first place.

We booked Sunday lunch here for four people recently. When we arrived there were only two other tables occupied. Our order for drinks was taken promptly and then we were allowed time to study the menu. There was a good range on offer, but being a Sunday three opted for the roast beef and one for the chicken all of which is sourced locally. The food when it arrived was tasty and hot and the roast beef was very tender. One of our party has an aversion to certain vegetables which left his plate rather bare as no other options were offered, also there was an attempt at cauliflower cheese, but the cheese was bright orange and rather chewy, which we did comment on to the senior person in the restaurant. All the staff we met were very friendly, willing to help and well presented.

I think the food is ok here but it is just your average pub, serving pub style food. They advertise that they have 2 aa rosettes which is maybe why they charge 10% service charge. But at the end of the day you're charging £7.50 for soup and £12.50 for an omelette and then charging me 10% more which is a bit cheeky. To be honest the food was alright but it feels like a la carte prices for run of the mill pub food

Very neat clean restaurant but hard to see how the prices are so eye-watering. What is more only the member of our party who enjoyed their Smokehouse meal was the one who took the Sunday roast - at £25! My pulled brisket was not at all great and one of us who ordered something called pork ribs found that the rectangle of hard meat that she got was inedible. Those meals were £18 and £20.

Ordered the sea trout for £15.65. A small piece of fish was served up on a few chickpeas but that was it. No vegetables or potatoes. I spoke to staff and they were not interested and said I should have just ordered sides. For the price I would not have known that I would not get a meal sized portion and I was not warned about this before hand. Another one of my family members ordered a roast dinner which came without potatoes. The staff did resolve this and brought out the potatoes separately, which my dad then gave to me instead as I was still hungry after finishing my small meal in two minutes. Though the food was nice, I have to say the portion size was not worth the price. And staff did not resolve the issue either when it was raised. We won't be returning.

We travelled up from deepest, darkest, Sussex to North Kent and the 1st thing that struck us was the “Londonish” of the whole area. I’m definitely not a geezer (more a village yokel), unlike the table next to us, but we still enjoyed this place. Very friendly and accommodating. The smokehouse menu is excellent and a good idea/value and the pork was very good (disappointing not to get crackling but that might be due to the barbecuing). If you live local, the Bull is worth a visit and the beers are 10/10! TOP TIP: THEY AUTOMATICALLY ADD A TIP TO YOUR BILL IN CASE YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF DECIDING WHETHER OR NOT GIVE ONE (HATE THAT!) but our waitress was happy to explain we could remove it (who would do that? I’m too polite!!!).

OK I eat out in London quite a bit for both business and pleasure so am au fait with the sometimes eye watering prices charged. However, I did not expect to find this locally at the Bull which is usually a good restaurant and one that I have visited on numerous occasions. So how did four of us end up spending almost £200 for a one course steak and chips with a bottle of wine and drinks to start with? We for starters a single G&T; is £6 and a pint just under a fiver so with service charge automatically added that's £25 to begin. Then there's the wine - we were guided by the sommelier who, knowing that one of our group was allergic to Merlot, steered us to a Bulgarian Eniri from the Bessa Valley - we asked for a taster first only to find out later that we were being charged £12 for the privilege of tasting the wine being charged at the current glass rate - the taster was good and a bottle was ordered only to find that it was £40 and was part Merlot which one of our party could not drink...! So again £52 for wine plus service comes to £57 therefore £82 so far and we haven't got to the food yet. Actually, the one course we had (no starters or puds) Wagyu steak and chips was good if a tad rare and a little chewy one of our party had chicken which was good. Will we return? probably not but if you are visiting you will need to keep an eye on your drinks bill and suggest that you choose your own wine.

We visited The Bull for the first time and both ordered the Sunday roast. What was served was a measly portion of mashed cabbage and swede with three small roast potatoes which were bland, tasteless and had seen better days. The chicken was ok nothing particularly special. For £18 for the chicken and £20 for the lamb roast, considerably overpriced in comparison to other local establishments who offer far tastier roasts and more value for money.

The ingredients were clearly high quality, the menu had plenty of choice and their wine storage system that allows fine wines to be dispensed by the glass is a real enhancement for those not wishing to consume a whole bottle or to have different wines with different courses.
