Dirty tables and dead flowers on tables, vases were filled with dirty water, table had food on it and empty sugar sachets, despite several members of staff standing around. Food was as bleak as could be, really sad to see and flat fizz, then to top it off an extra 3 drinks of someone else’s added to our bill.

Happened upon the restaurant on a trip to Bridport. We both had sea bream with roasted baby potatoes, peas, cabbage and samphire. It was the most delicious fish I've eaten for years. Perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. For my second course, I had the lime cheesecake with rhubarb. Sound ordinary but it was far from it. Another fab dish. My partner had a started of harisaa courgettes on humus with a pomegranate salad. He said it was very tasty. Staff were lovely. Would recommend.

We went to The Bull for Dinner - we chose the vegetarian main course option (Celeriac parpardelle with a ragout of gigante butter beans, artichoke hearts & spinach, truffle oil). It sounded enticing - but sadly it was a bit lacking. The vegetarian starter and dessert were very good, so this sort of saved the day - but overall it was a bit disappointing. Perhaps we were just unlucky and non-vegetarians may fair better. I hope they ditch this menu option.

Changed, alot.   I use to visit the Bull semi regularly once or twice a month and sometimes more , usually for dinner and always enjoyed the food and had good service. Last couple of years the food has been so poor and often the service. Simple things like pasta being overcooked to mush.. sandwiches are now only made with incredibly cheap bread. I'm talking supermarket value range type. Local cheaper cafes do not use this. How are they getting away with such poor quality produce for the prices? My husband loves an eggs benedict so would often come for breakfast. Lovely fruit salad you use to do no longer available and we were served eggs benedict on the cheap bread mentioned above, not muffins! Our kids love the pancakes still, so that's something.   Service is sometimes ok, there are a few sweet young girls who are polite but they don't seem to be given direction and are untrained. Each time i've visited in the last couple of months i've stood at the bar for noticable amounts of time while staff walk past and say nothing. A simple "hello, will be with you shortly" would suffice. To be ignored every time is rude and is the reason we've now stopped going. It's frustrating as it was such a fab place.

The menu is fairly limited so what’s on offer to you is not to everyone’s liking. You don’t mind paying for something that is your choice of food but when it is food that you don’t fancy, then it’s disappointing. A bottle of Prosecco is nearly £40! Very overpriced! Unfortunately, will not dine there again.

First time to the Bull when it was taken over as a completely run down hotel, they Magically transformed it into a Faux Chic number. There was a buzzing Bar in the Ballroom, and it attracted many like minded Folks. I even came back a couple of years later and got married in the Ballroom, to which was a wonderfully well organised and brilliant day. Sadly the Couple that started this moved on, As My Marriage did too. The Bull is left with no identity other than gains by the people that own it

We had called in earlier to book and established one of the specials was lemon sole. When we arrived and ordered it the young lady said that it was not a special and only muscles which I don’t like. She said it must have been a lunchtime special but as we had called in at 4 pm that didn’t seem likely. We then spotted a piece of paper under the menu with specials and the sole was on there so I ordered it. That was all I got on the plate. No vegetables or salad just a piece of fish for £24. I expect the veg was extra but I wasn’t given the option. Husband had a fillet steak which he said was perfect. He also had apple crumble which he said was lovely. They were very busy so would advise booking in advance.

My dad and I visited on Monday for dinner and we were warmly welcomed. The staff were lovely throughout our dining and really friendly - although service was a little slow at times despite not being overly busy. However, the main disappointment we had was the pricing of the food. The starters were priced fair but the main courses less so. The Portobello mushroom dish was a handful of sautéed mushrooms on a single piece of toast with an egg that was charged at £15...quite steep for such a small dish that when arrived looked more like a starter or a breakfast. The ravioli was priced better, with a larger portion for £15 but the tiny bowl of chips priced at £4 also seemed a little steep.

I had significant reservations about the food going into this hotel stay - the menu online sounded amazing...but I assumed....as a Fullers owned establishment, the food would be mass produced, boil in the bag stuff, so was very dubious the menu would live up to how it was written - how VERY wrong I was. I take my hat off to Fullers for enabling such an individual, small restaurant feel to their food. Our evening meal was properly good - from wine selection (impressive and varied) through all three courses - the food was as good as many many restaurants I have eaten in. Service from waitress was excellent and can honestly say I would happily eat there every night for a week.

Really truly surprised at some of the reviews where this establishment has received less than 5*, in my eyes this place went above and beyond. We turned up quite late in the evening without a booking, was told that they could accommodate us in the bar area which was lovely and cosy. The staff were excellent, on hand with everything covid - one way system, sanitising all tables, keeping distance and disposable menus. Really impressed with the level of service. We ordered a curry from the special with chicken, and a burger, and both me and my friend thought our meals to be divine. We ordered some wine which was lovely and went down far too easily! We then ordered a banoffee cheesecake which was just heavenly. We were even able to order more wine to take back to our accommodation. All in all a great place to go, wonderful food which was great value for money and fantastic service. I highly recommend. Parking in the area is a challenge, there is a small pay and display not too far away but very limited spaces.  We were shown to a booth which seemed ice at the start but it just meant that the servers couldn’t get to the two at the far end and we had to pass food down and dirty plates back up to the waitress.  It would have been OK as a table for four, but not six.    Service was very slow, one waitress who made eye contact then ignored our attempts to attract attention. We had the Haddock chowder, potted Salmon, Lamb Kofta all very good, and two Pea soups, not so good.  All served with some indifferent bread.  Mains were a gristly tasteless rib eye steak with underdone soft chips, a good Venison tagliatelle and two fish and chips.  The fish was in very thick greasy batter and we had to send them back as it still had the skin on.  The replacements eventually arrived in the same sort of batter, but the fish was watery and tasteless and it meant to of us were then out of sync with the rest of the group[p.  One portion was mostly eaten, except the batter, and the other not really touched.   No mention or comment made by the waitress when the plates were eventually collected.  A small nod of an apology would have gone a long way.    Desserts were the Cheese and biscuits, some very good Cheddar. a Banoffee cheese cake and three indifferent raspberry and Lime Possets.  There seemed to be a lot of flies around which was annoying.  No mention of the Fish and Chips when we came to pay.At £175 for five of us not good value at all

Our Saturday coffee crowd met there because of the warm weather. We use it sometimes in the summer months. We were there for various coffee and drinks. The very young man at the bar was frindly and took our orders, but we did find the barista somewhat officious and unfriendly. The maitre d'hotel seemed very busy and offhand, unusual because he used to be very cordial. The coffee was served outside, but for some reason a tab is no longer allowed, so various drinks had to be purchased individually which was a pain. It ironically backfires because instead of one sum of money given over by us all at the end, they don't get the generous tip added on!. Reflects the service I suppose!

My husband thoroughly enjoyed his tea and hop smoked haddock kedgeree with poached egg, and my lamb rump with heritage carrots and fondant potato was absolutely out of this world. The service was fantastic, too.

Our stay was good. Service and food ok. Room was nice. Its a terrible shame that the loud music over the road and young drunks kept us awake until 3am. Had we had known of this we would have booked an alternative hotel.

Booked last minute on a Friday night, place was buzzing but not crowded. Service was prompt and friendly, food satisfied all guests. Portions are spot on and food is really good. My hanger steak was cooked perfectly and burgers looked delicious.

I was treated to a night at the Bull hotel for my birthday and it was perfect from start to finish. The staff were friendly and helpful, our room was stunningly designed and the roll top bath in there was heaven. We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious- I’ve eaten many steaks in my time but this was the best rib eye I’ve ever had! Breakfast was great too, I only wish I could’ve stayed longer.

Have eaten at this tasteful and delightful hotel a number of times. Always great. Particularly love the breakfast, many places can not get scrambled egg right, the chef here certainly can!!!! An independent traditional hotel with a contemporary twist.

Great to experience The Bull back to its best, love this place. The food, wines, beers and staff probably the best in town. Doing the simple things really well (again). The ambiance inside and out ( in the summer) is second to none.Thank you. Finished the year with a Christmas meal, superb!

We went here for a family lunch on Boxing Day and was most disappointed with the food. We had to send 2 dishes back due to very poor quality and to be honest would have sent all of them back if it wasn’t for being so hungry. The food just wasn’t up to scratch - the burger bun was soggy and lacked filling, the chips were also soggy. Mussels were gritty and tiny and the steak tough and over cooked.

We met up with some old friends and were very disappointed by the quality of the food. Two of us had a crab and prawn pasta dish and we both independently checked the menu as there were prawns but no sign of crab either visually or flavour. Generally it was very poorly seasoned if at all. We did mention it and felt it was poorly dealt with. Sorry but I'm sure you could do better!

I have dined here previously with excellent food and service but this was very different. Firstly, no one was prepared to acknowledge our arrival. I stood there for several minutes and eventually someone checked, pointed and said 'your table is over there'. No accompanying us to the table, no asking if we wanted drinks, or providing menus.. We waited at our table for 10 minutes with no one attending before I had to go to find a waitress.

Unfortunately The Bull is becoming rather mediocre. This use to be the high end restaurant in Bridport but now it’s just becoming the same old standard food. Nothing special! They menu does not change often enough and I always end up having steak. I’m pretty sure on this visit I had minute steak for the first time and opted for this medium/ well. Oh my lord, I couldn’t chew it- I ended up with most hideous jaw ache. When the waiter cleared the table I told him and he replied, it’s a steak that should be cooked rare to prevent being tough! If only he’d told me that at time of ordering. The squid starter was fine and were the cheese & biscuits but I shan’t be rushing to return unfortunately.

We were looking for a restaurant which would cater for four friends with different tastes. It was for a special occasion so we wanted a restaurant which was little bit special. The Bull was perfect. The restaurant was tastefully decorated and very relaxing. The food did not disappoint either. The starter choice was excellent. 3 of us had the Crab and 1 the Mozzerella. All delicious. The mains were equally varied. The Goats Cheese pasta was amazing. The Bull also has a pretty court yard for alfresco dining.

We dropped in early Monday evening and were surprised and disappointed that no tables were available for dinner. But David, the manager, obviously had a word with kitchen and fitted us in. Glad he did, as the three of us each enjoyed different starters and main courses, nicely cooked and professionally presented. So refreshing to eat at a place where staff are courteous and appear to enjoy what they're doing. Recommended!

I am fussy when it comes to food. Being a vegetarian I am often restricted. On this visit asparagus risotto with carrot cridps happened to be on the specials board. It was seriously one of the best risottos I have tasted so had in two nights in a row. A bonus was the Fever Tree elderberry flower tonic water! The menu for non vegetarians also looked great. For breakfast, lunch and dinner you can’t go wrong...

We called in to take advantage of the Bull’s Moule and Steak Night (Wednesday) for an Anniversary Treat. I’m a big fan of Moule Mariniere and Frites having lived in Northern France and Belgium and often select them from the menu. In short these were the best I remember since 1985 when I ate them in a Cafe in Arras; soft, delicate, plump and with a perfect balance of wine, shallot, garlic. Quiet stunning. My lovely wife also loved her Hanger Steak. There’s a glass of wine to accompany their Wednesday Night Special. We also ordered puddings of Lemon Tart with Sorbet and Panna cotta with Stewed Cherries. I wasn’t fond of the Cherries which I’d describe as shrivelled rather than stewed. Fabulous Mussels though and we did the 2 for 1 on Mojito as an Aperitif. The Bull was bouncing with customers and had a great vibe. We’ll certainly return.

Large chip portions are large ! Cash only. Curry sauce was slightly thin perhaps compared to Northern chippies. Prices are ok for a touristy town

Visited the Fun Factory on a rainy day with my baby. To book in, other children in the waiting area were running into his pram. The gates were hard to open. Upon arrival, we were told, that the only available tables were upstairs and there was no lift! I had to carry the baby and pram up the stairs. Walking through the downstairs department was like trying to run through a jungle. We finally got to our table which was covered in what looked like chewed food and saliva and all over the chairs too. I am aware that soft play areas are noisy but this was more than that. I took the baby down to play in the under 3's section which was a tiny cage. There weren't many activities for him to play with. The baby mirror in there was dirty, the ball pit was over crowded. To get on the slide, it was a climb and with a baby, it proves impossible. Older children were coming in the baby section and scaring him and leaving the gate open which I was furious about. The sensory toys were broken. A 7 year old girl was in there throwing balls at him too and I had a go at her mum and told them to get out. I told a member of staff and they did nothing about it. He also had some lunch there which looked cheap and processed. You could literally see the fat dripping off it. You are apparently allowed to take the babies in the older children's play area but I was straight away put off when i saw the filth on some of the children's socks and the rate they were running around! In order to make this a better place you really need to add a lift, make a better play area for babies, get friendlier and more helpful staff, healthier food, clean the place and maybe even give it a revamp, buy more toys for the baby area and in general make it more appealing. Until Fun Factory up their game, I'm certainly not going back. Unless you want your babies to have a day of being in the worst play area of all time, don't come here!

Was all set to enjoy a coffee in my favourite Costa ( see review Jan 23 ) when I witnessed the best example of managerial skill I have ever seen . I imagine that the customer in question may have underlying social problems . He was unbelievable rude - over a cookie . The abuse that staff were subjected to because they had unfortunately sold out was totally disproportionate. Sir , get a life . Staff , well done for the calm and professional way you handled an extremely unpleasant situation !

I Had a family evening with cocktails to start, unfortunately they had not a clue how to serve or make these,by a friendly young girl, the food was the worst i have had for a long time, and although i told the elderly lady she seemed to listen but shrug it off with no effect, totally overpriced for what we had ,very small meals, missing the main ingredient FOOD.I hope they can improve and get a barman in to make the cocktails, they need to be shaken, not just pored!!

Stopped for a quick lunch while walking the dog today. I was served by a lovely young chap who was smiley and very helpful. He even offered to carry my tray outside as I had the dog with me. I chose a delicious cranberry and brie toastie. It was served piping hot and was PERFECT! I sat outside in the sunshine looking across the woods. Great value and can totally recommend this special place.
