Food was really good, had the chili lamb Sunday roast, service a tiny bit slow but staff were very friendly, polite and helpful, everywhere was very clean and inviting, 9/10 would definitely go back

Has so much potential, great bands but awful staff. Bar staff completely ignoring us and serving other people who were there way after us, we waited 15 minutes then they came out side of the bar and serve some guy whose been waiting like 2 minutes - and they had to keep coming our side to use the till so damn well knew we were there. And sexist potentially perveted bouncers who didn't ID me as a women but ID'd my fiance (never happened before - either we both get ID'd or neither, I definitely look younger than him as I'm only 5ft1). Furthermore they ran out of 2 ciders and a beer on tap whilst we were there. Overall it completely ruined our night and we left early despite loving the band. Never had this experience as Coda and will go there for bands in the future. And hope to see the band it's not a phase mum elsewhere instead as will not be returning as had too many bad experiences here.

First time at this pub as not a Colchester local. A great pub, had live music on, pool table and great outside area to chill out in. Really great place to socialise and have a good evening. Will be back.

Some live music. Slightly aggressive atmosphere. Expensive beer but reasonably priced shots. Ownership has changed hands many times over a short period.

Kind and friendly staff and it is a lovely quiet space. We have and use the bull as a place to meet up for our aspergers group. It's so lovely and cosy and it's just a lovely atmosphere.

First time in Colchester and found this pub by chance whilst looking for a swift afternoon pint. A proper pub and good for a late afternoon beer. Went back in the evening and the place was rocking; great live music and brilliant atmosphere. If I lived locally then this is where I would live at weekends.

Drinks are extremely expensive 5 pound for a bottle of cider £ 2.79 around the corner I can see why it was empty.

Only pub I can find in Colchester with a pool table. It's also a proppa pub with live music and even a venue out back for gigs etc. I will be starting all my nights out at the Bull. Also bar staff are a good laugh and hard working. Oh and there was blue moon which is nice to start off with.

Great place for live music! Excellent atmosphere. Only downside is waiting to get drinks. Bar staff work their socks off but bar serving area does not help.

young chap behind the bar was brilliant.

Paid £2 each to get in, bar staff ignored three of us at the bar for 15 mins, and served other people. If you shouted the staffs name you got served. Such a poor showing. Spoke to the door staff who did give the entrance fee back.

Why go to a tapas bar when you can come here, absolutely lovely

Would give 0 stars, Was with my friends when an employee without her mask got close to my face a forcibly kicked us out after having payed, would never go again until that employee is given a serious review, would not recommend to anyone who was a brain

10/10. The recent renovation has maintained the old charm and atmosphere of the bull we know and love while still providing a modern twist of a new look and outstandingly good tasting food. Would recommend then Smoky BBQ wings a hundred times over 👌

Visited about six months ago for the first time in ten years and the pub was essentially a shell of a pub with no customers. Over the years its been difficult to know the opening hours as it seems to open when it pleases. However upon my last visit i can confirm this pub now has a well stocked bar and even a pool table has appeared. Must have a new landlord. Things may be looking up here but its early days ...

Was a great place to play! Interesting crowd (I love that about places) really good sound, really good staff also! Just a shame that there was not much stock and the coke tasted like shrimp water but as a bartender myself I do understand that sometimes post mix is a untamed mistress of beverages at times.

Looked like the place was closing. No drinks to choose from and very, very quiet for a Saturday night. Managed to get a babysitter but was home by 11.30pm. Don't think it will be my go to place for a while. Very disappointed.

Metal night every second Thursday of the month, highly recommended if you're into metal, they never disappoint. Lovely staff, great venue.

You can not find many drinks available but whatever alcohol is provided is sufficient to get you drunk. The live band is fantastic. I had an amazing time when Trixx was playing and Danielle (the leading lady) done a cover-up of Chris Cornell that got me goose bumps.Another interesting moment of the night was when a fight strated(pff drunk people) but the bouncer managed to control it and the band was still playing. All in all I recommend the Bull for being accessible and promoting live music(quality).

Loved the metal to the masses. Full house and the vibe was amazing. Its not often you find places with that kinda turnout for the alternative scene. Would definitely visit again for a metal night! Only downside was getting to the bar and outside as it was so packed!

No draught at all in the bar and limited drinks in the fridges. There was an open mic night which to be honest was great but sadly let down by the shocking bar

Negitive: The band, The Statins, played some good song, but were very mediocre. The brandy ran out. Positive: Drinks are reasonably priced.
