We went to The Buck for a family meal last November and the Jerk chicken I had was extremely spicy and delicious, and in such a large portion I had to ask for a doggy bag to take the spare chicken home...we returned on the 4th of April and the food was so disappointing in comparison...I had the banana curry and had specified a 'medium' strength. Service was prompt, but the food was bland, tasteless and without a hint of spice. There were a few sad little chunks of chicken and the rice portion was miniscule. I left a lot of it. My cousin had the same dish, which he had had last year and really recommended it to me last night. After our meal, he agreed with my assessment, and that it had been much better previously. The Baileys Sundae was quite good, but there was only a very small hint of Baileys in the bottom. The Buck's main point of difference is its Caribbean food. That is why we went there on both occasions. Yes, it adequately delivers standard pub classics, albeit with the cheapest form of skinny fries available, but those are available anywhere. I hope, for the Buck's future, that this was a one off, and that the usual chef responsible for the Caribbean food was off for the night. They need to return to the level they held last year, especially considering the prices they are now charging for what was just quite substandard fodder last night.

Called last minute on Sunday to see if they could do two takeaway meals as I was in Ponlliw. Fortunately they could so I picked them up 10 minutes later. Been to the buck many times but was very disappointed this time The dinner was very watery and tasteless and the gravy was also the same but couldn’t believe they charged us £15 each for dinners including the two takeaway dinners. Wasn’t worth this at all.

I’m absolutely disgusted by the way your staff/management has just spoken to me. I have never heard such a rude and arrogant women in all my life to speak to customers the way she did. Trying to book a table for my family and she said I needed to pay a deposit, I stated I’ve been to the buck many many times, 1 time being 2/3 weeks ago and never paid a deposit. She then goes on to tell me I’m a liar and I must be confused with where I went. How rude! I’ll be sure to put a bad review over every possible site I can about you and will not be returning again! Absolutely disgusting and learn to treat some people with respect!

Booked a table for tonight on March 3rd, for friends, only 3 of us, only to turn up & be told that all tables were cancelled as a wake was held there instead. I didn’t cause a fuss in the circumstances, but to be told there was no contact number left, which I know not to be true, is a shabby & abysmal way to treat people. This obviously wasn’t a last minute alteration. My phone number would have appeared on the display when booking & having booked & attended numerous times previously, Waters isn’t a very common surname, it wouldn’t have taken much effort to contact me. I think to turf us out like that, without prior warning is appalling customer service. Suffice to say it’ll be a long time before we go again.

Booked to have Mother’s Day here. Food was good. But don’t know what’s happened to some staff. Very rude. And it was shambles. There was no communication with the staff. And really didn’t make u feel welcome. And a couple visited with there child who needed a high chair and was told they couldn’t have one due to where they wr sitting. think it was the manager came over and said no for the highchair. But not once did she offer an alternative place to sit to accommodate a highchair. . Absolutely disgusting. What did they expect the small child to sit on parents lap and eat food. We had a few that didn’t turn up with us so we told them to sit on our spare table so they could have a highchair for there child. Think attitudes need to change with the staff. As I’m sure half of them didn’t want to be there. Yes it was busy but learn some customer service.

Visited as a party of 9 on mother's day. Didn't realise that the whole menu was on offer and not just the carvery. We had a mix of carverys, mains from the menu and children's meals. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed all of the meals and the carverys were huge and you could help yourself to more if needed (not that we could). The staff were attentive and friendly despite the restaurant being busy. We are all looking forward to returning another day. Outside space looked lovely too for a meal in the summer.

Below average dinner it’s not carvery you do not help yourself. It was pretty poor to say the least Be aware that all children are made to eat from small bowls although my daughter was 10 the bowls were tiny apparently I’m the first to ever say my daughter would need a plate not a bowl! They then proceeded to say she would have to be charged as an adult although the same went on said plate as bowl! I asked for a small bowl for my baby should i have been told they were going to be charging me £3:75 for a tiny bit of mash and swead I wouldn’t have bothered as most of the bowl was water! Wouldn’t be returning Also the managers attitude was as poor as the food!

Came here for Caribbean food yesterday , I have been here in the past and food was good . We travelled 30 miles to get here . I ordered jerk belly pork I was served jerk chicken which they changed , in the meantime my partner was eating alone he ordered lamb curry which her did not finish due to eating alone . My jerk belly pork came and it was served in gravy no jerk seasoning or a hint of spice, cut in slices not belly pork just a pork slice .i also ordered the jerk chips which were served in gravy not a hint of jerk or spice just gravy . Overall absolutely terrible not the meal I have had in the past . Service from one member of staff behind the bar not nice( no apology or help trying to sort the situation. obviously they do not have any jerk seasoning in the kitchen or no chef .i will not be returning to receive Caribbean food served in gravy instead of jerk . Whats going on the Caribbean food used to be good here. I must say our server was lovely and helpful.

Meals came very quickly and the range on the menu was impressive. It pleased everyone as 2 wanted a Turkey Christmas Dinner and others wanted Steaks etc The food was cooked and presented well and piping hot! Lovely and tasty and we ended up having 3 courses as the desserts are to die for! We went to the buck as the toby carvery had a long waiting time. The pubs carvery used to be amazing . They used to carve the meat on to your plate then you would help yourself to the vegetables. They have now changed this and there's a miserable bloke stood there giving the most stingy, tight amount of vegetable portions possible . He was rude the portions were absolutely tiny and the meat was dry . So much so that my daughter seen my son's food and said" I will have something at home instead" . The food has gone down hill but the prices have gone up .

Today on our arrival at the Buck, we found it to be megga megga busy... ambience was very good though. On speaking to an elderly couple, whilst we waited for our reservation which we had previously booked, they explained that in over 20yrs of them calling at the Buck, every Sunday without fail, today was the busiest they could ever recall. Food was absolutely delicious, staff, waitresses, chefs all very helpful indeed, bit pricey for the Sunday carvery, but don't let the price put you off, you pay for what you get, in all honesty it was all fresh, and no frozen veg, also the meat fell apart, 10 out of 10, great place, great food, great ambience and great service from all staff

Sorry to say standards have dropped. Booked for a Sunday carvery as we have done many times in the last. The place was fairly quiet and were seated quickly. We opted for the carvery as we have had this many times before. Unfortunately on this occasion it fell way below what we’ve had in the past. The meats were nice, however, the veg left a lot to be desired. Over cooked tasteless and soggy that’s about the best we could rate the veg. The meal itself was tepid at best. If we had been checked in, I’d have asked them to microwave my meal. It was basically Luke warm. For a pint of shandy, a glass of Pepsi and two mediocre roasts the bill was £34.00. Needless to say, we’ll give this place a miss for a while to see if things improve and get back to what it used to be.
