Being slightly peckish on a Saturday lunch time we ventured into this cafe for the first time as I was tempted by the prospect of tapas especially the meatballs ,unfortunately these were not available. We had a panini and a fish finger butty which were tasty. The service was very friendly and the prices were reasonable in this small quirky cafe but the menu was quite limited when we visited which was a shame .

I popped for lunch with four friends, our drinks arrived quickly and were fine, food however had still not arrived after 45 minutes so we had to rush as we were on lunch break, the Jacket potatoes were nothing to write home about, no presentation, no side salad and mostly no apology for the extremely slow service. I will not be returning.

Had walked past here several times whilst on lunch break. Then a friend told me how nice it was. We was due a catch up so me and my friends booked. The place has recently been take over by a new owner called Lyndsey and she cannot do enough for you very hospitable. The restaurant is small and friendly decorated beautifully and perfect for small groups or couples. The ladies is amazing immaculately clean with a range of products to use even nail files ha ha. Now onto food we took advantage of the 5 tapas for £10 and just ordered lots then added some chilli prawns the tapas are really well cooked and very tasty must recommend... All of them. Great wine list and jugs of sangria to wash all the food down with. We must support these small new businesses and show why we are going to be city of culture. See you soon The Brief and if your reading this you must visit. It does lunches too !!!

The venue did not look very prepossessing but the Tapas were good. The Brief is in the heart of the old town just off the land of Green Ginger where many of the legal offices are. There is such a lot of scope in these surroundings to develop a unique style.and I feel sure this will be the case - or brief! The tapas were very tasty and at 5 tapas for £10 very well priced one disappointment was that there were no fishy tapas.

Would have liked to see prawns on the menu as I love fish and shellfish. The dishes were fresh, well cooked and simple. Service was very friendly and welcoming. A nice white Rioja helped the meal. I would definitely return, very informal with no airs and graces .

An unpretentious little cafe by day and charming little bar by night.A few more restaurants, bars of this calibre in the area would bring it to life. The quality and presentation of the food, the candlelit interior and most importantly the friendliness of the staff set it apart. Wouldn't even have known this place existed if not for chancing upon a review in the Yorkshire Post a few months ago. It's an absolute gem and a very welcome alternative to the other (mainly pubby) places to eat in the immediate vicinity. Five tapas dishes for a tenner is a total steal - everything is made to order and made very well at that. The venue itself is by no means palatial but tables are well spaced, the decor is endearingly hotchpotch and the candlelight gives a cosy atmosphere. The coffee is really very good and, although I have yet to sample them, the desserts always look lush. Lovely staff, quick service and great standard of food (the cheesy pasta bake is a perfect winter warmer). Not a huge selection of dishes but what there is is great. My first choice for a pit-stop when I'm in the Old Town.

I would like to start by saying a big thank you to the staff for the great service and added extras for my 60th birthday.I called in the week before to book for my party, the staff went through the menu and prices and made special arrangements to make a large paella for the party. We had never been to this restaurant before but had passed it many times and colleagues had recommended it to us.On arrival the staff had decorated the restaurant will balloons and banners and made the whole atmosphere warm and inviting. (especially as it was snowing outside). We had ordered all the tapas from the menu and after the big jugs of sangria were brought to the table we tucked in to the delicious tapas. One of the guests didn't like paella so the staff went out of their way to make him an omelette. The big dish of paella arrived and was delicious, with crusty bread to go with it. Just a few more jugs of sangria was all that was needed to round the day off. The staff made this a special day and will be recommending The Brief to all our friends and will be making lots more visits.

We decided that Dry January had run its course after three weeks, and was making life very boring, so we went out for a light supper and decided on The Brief, following the mainly enthusiastic reviews on Tripadvisor. It's a modest and unpretentious little place, more a cafe-bar than a bar-bar, with a sweet young lady in charge of both the bar and the kitchen. The tapas were mostly very good, homemade and quirky -- we shared 5 for £10, which beats London prices, and with 2 large glasses of Rioja for the memsahib and a couple of Spanish beers for me, plus a piece of delectable cheescake and an espresso, the bill was less that £30. So we shall go again. The Brief was very quiet for a Friday night in mid-January, and it deserves more support for its unforced welcoming atmosphere and reasonably priced cuisine. So come on, you 'Ull, and support the place!

We booked this restaurant as a family of 8 all comming together on Christmas Eve for 4pm. When we turned up we was told as we walked in that they was closing. We said we had a booking for 8, the girl who was in said she had no details off this booking and was nothing she could do. This really spoilt our night as people was travelling from Beverley. We had to then try and ring round other restaurants to try and get a booking which really did spoil our night we was told the manageress would ring us back. A week later and still no call so my mum rang and was met by such bad customer service and rudeness by the manageress who "said am I not entitled to a week off" that was not the issue. So I must warn people to be very careful when making a booking and turning up and no table there for you.

Having left the nearby Optimax clinic with dilated pupils we fled into The Brief to get out of the painful sunlight; what a happy accident that turned out to be. It's a small place down a cobbled side street in The Old Town which is a really delightful part of old Hull . It's been decorated in Shabby Chic style and offers various tapas, sandwiches panini's etc for lunch with a good wine list. Luckily I was not driving so I had an extremely generous glass of Sauvignon blanc and a halloumi and red onion panini with the added bonus of hearing the strong local accent of my beloved Hull which made me very happy and nostalgic.

Came to the brief after a friend had recommended it to me. The food was lovely and the service was brilliant. It's nicely decorated and really stands out from other places in old town! Just what hull needs, would definitely reccomend and will be going back myself.

The waitress was pleasant enough...once she noticed me. A couple of regulars at the bar were taking up her attention. The prices on the board do not match those on the till (£1.50 vs £1.70 for a cup of tea). Another waitress came in and looked down her nose at me for sitting where she wanted to put a birthday balloon (it was empty). Loud conversations on a mobile phone about how to con mortgage people into lending to you. Also, my amaretti biscuit was stale. On the plus side, it's nicely decorated.

We enjoyed our tapas in this cosy cafe bar. Felt as if we were in a bar in Spain. The prices were reasonable and the staff were all very friendly. It's just what the area needs. Will definitely return.

Came in by accident as it was at the end of an arcade with no sign on the entry of the arcade. Climbing the stairs to the seating area was quite a challenge for my partner who struggled with osteoarthritis of the knee. The food was mostly great. They did a special of 30 pounds for 3 tapas when we visited, the duck dish is certainly worth more than 10 pounds!!! Good wine choices.
