For a 4 star rated hotel, the evening menu and the service were both totally uninspiring. Luckily I only ate there on one night. I asked the server for some tartare sauce to go with the fish and chips ordered, he told me there was none left…5 minutes later, I was approached by another member of staff and asked how I was enjoying my meal. Of course I mentioned that it was pretty poor that they had run out of tartare sauce. I was told that I had been misinformed (i.e lied to) by the original server, presumably because he was to lazy to go to the kitchen to get it. Maybe my standards are a little to high and I should expect bog standard food in a 4 star hotel. Fortunately most 4 stars I have stayed at over the years have been able to serve up food of a at least a reasonable standard and with some consideration for the guest by the server. The menu prides itself with the slogan “a true taste of Yorkshire”….that I would suggest is very much a matter of opinion. My opinion, if you can, eat elsewhere, that might then force the hotel to both make the menu more inspiring and also ensure that they employ proper staff rather than uninterested kids.

We were staying at another hotel but booked to go into the teepee for a meal. I rung the hotel to book a table in the teepee about 3 weeks ago. They confirmed in the teepee on the date I asked for. We turned up to find that the teepee was booked out for santa. They said nothing about this at the time of booking & no mention of this on their website at the time of booking. Yet only says it now on their website! We booked cedar as had been in the teepee before & wanted to take our daughter to experience the teepee. Got told they should be able to fit us in the main restaurant & that they'd give us a free drink! Decided not to eat here beings we were not getting the experience we had asked for & booked. Struggled to find somewhere else as everywhere was busy. Very disappointed as came here for a break away as a family & was really looking forward to our cosy meal in a teepee, expecting it to be magical. No courtesy call to let us know or anything. Yet they took all my details!

We were invited to dine with my brother and his wife during their stay at the hotel. After studying the menu and making our choices we were told a few minutes later that two of the items were no longer available. Following some hasty choices we placed our second order. The first courses arrived and were quite simply, pretty average. Not at all what we expected from the kitchen of a hotel such as this. The second courses arrived and without going into too much detail, these were just as uninspiring. My partner tried a few mouthfuls of his meal and left the rest. When the waiter asked if the food was alright, my partner remarked that it wasn’t and asked the waiter to take it away. The waiter kindly offered to replace the meal but my partner declined. The main message here is that we have had much more enjoyable meals at much better value in many ordinary pubs.

This was a fantastic evening in Harrogate. Pablo, our waiter was fantastic. As we ease our way out of social distancing, this structure may become the new norm of dining, I hope so. I’d give them 7/10. They cooked me a brilliant 8oz rib-eye steak. Medium rare, but nicely charred on the outside. Meat itself was soft, but the best part was the fat, which was tender and sweet. Chips & cheese cake were good, but not exceptional. I did witness a few people complaining about their food and the service, but we did not experience any issues.

Went as part of a group on a busy evening and had a very good meal, good wine and mostly excellent service. The puds are a little on the modest size (for the price) but nevertheless tasty. The only thing I found a little odd, at the end of the meal, instead of inviting us to retire to the bar area with our coffees (or even asking if we minded the working around us - which, of course, we wouldn't) the staff set about cleaning the tables and setting up for the next day, right up to where we were sitting (on a long table). It just made us feel a bit uncomfortable. OK they wanted to get sorted out, and we understand that, but there might have been a nicer way to go about it. That is just a small point though, can't fault the food, wine or the ambience - the lighting is subtle and there was relaxing live music when we arrived.

Friendly staff somewhat challenged by language but we ordered from the set Sunday lunch - roast dinnes was good - - pork with large yorkshire pudding - but the seafood rissotti was boiled rice mixed with warmed prawns - and the vegetaian option was an overcooked tomato tart - not great.

Afternoon tea very poor. Booked weeks ago as a treat. Arrived at 2.30pm for our booking and was asked by 3 different staff whether we wanted tea or coffee before it arrived. Had to ask at 3.10pm where the food was as we needed to leave at 4.00pm for our return journey. It eventually arrived! Sandwiches were dried up at edges and very obviously not freshly made. No crisps as advertised on travel zoo deal. All in all not what we were expecting as a relaxing treat. There was a wedding going on whilst we were there and staff were very stressed. Perhaps they shouldn't do afternoon tea on wedding days if they can't cope.

The quality of the sandwiches at £5 60 plus was not the quality one would expect from a hotel of this class and several people abandoned their fish and chips as inedible . Such a disappointment . Visited here in a group of 14 friends for afternoon tea. We prebooked and they were able to cater for gluten free. I was pleasantly surprised when I was brought my own tea stand. Gf finger sandwiches is soft gf bread, 2 warm scones, chocolate brownie and a cream meringue. The top tier had an assortment of fruit. My only criticism would be I had to share jam and cream with the rest of the non gf party which wasn't great for the risk of cross contamination from crumbs. I took mine first to get around this but an individual pot of each for me would have earned 5 stars.

I have met with business colleagues here within the last week for a lunchtime meal and meet. The bar food/ snack menu is extensive and offers a wide variety. We had chicken salads, pulled pork bap and an egg cress sandwich with a selection of teas available. Sue the bar staff member was serving the whole bar area on her own which on reflection is a credit to her as a member of staff, as over lunch most of the tables were filled. Prices maybe a little steep for a topping of chicken on a salad totalling £10- so me and my college shared... but in all- a very welcoming, professional stop off, and a lovely hotel in all. We booked a table for a family meal on a Friday evening for 7.30pm. When we arrived, it was clear that there was a wedding on and the bar was extremely busy. We arrived a bit early, so decided to head to the bar for a drink before we sat down for our meal. As we approached the packed bar, the wedding guests/bride etc actually stopped talking and stared at us as we walked in. We felt so awkward and uncomfortable that we went to reception to double check that the bar wasn't closed for a private function and that we were allowed in. We were assured that the bar was for public use and that the wedding party would be moving back into a function room for the evening reception shortly. We still felt that the wedding guests didn't like us being there and they made us feel like gatecrashers, so we quickly got a drink then went to the restaurant area to sit down at our table.A waitress brought us some menus and as there were three children in the group we asked for the children's menu. My sister-in-law had asked on booking if there was a children's menu, and was told not as such in the restaurant, but the bar menu had children's options on it. We asked for this bar menu only to see no children's meals on there. When asked the waitress she said, we don't do children's meals. We explained that on booking we had been told children's meals were available from the bar menu and these could be eaten in the restaurant. The waitress disappeared and another girl came back and explained that the kitchen could do pizza and chips, fish fingers and chips etc.The first that struck me on looking at the menu was how limited it was. After 10/15 minutes our order was taken. Almost an hour later our meals arrived! The children had ordered pizza and chips - the pizza was bland and dry and the chips looked anaemic! I ordered chicken and leek pie. What was on my plate was like nothing I'd seen before and at best can be described as a greasy, deep fried quiche, a small potato rosti and a pile of vegetable peelings described on the menu as 'vegetable ribbon salad'. Our Guinea pigs get better veg! All I could smell was dirty chip fat like you'd find in a roadside, greasy spoon cafe. As I cut into my pie, the fat leaked out onto my plate. I was hungry so ate as much of it as I could - I wish I hadn't bothered, as my meal made a reappearance at 2am when I found myself praying at the Armitage Shanks alter! My husband had sea bass and the portion was so small that he'd eaten it within 5 minutes and asked when his main course was arriving as he'd finished his starter! My sister-in-law had ordered steak and most it was piled up half chewed at the side of her plate! We decided to order dessert as we were still hungry but no one appeared to clear our plates for a good 20 minutes or offer us a dessert menu. We all ordered a dessert each eventually but once again had a ridiculously long wait until that arrived. Even on finishing our meal, there were no staff about to ask for the bill. We finally got the bill but there was then no one about to take payment. In the end we asked to see the manager and explained to him how poor the service had been and how disappointed we were with our meal. He gave us 30% off our bill as an apology. So we will not be returning to this hotel! The wedding was clearly the priority for the staff that night and to be honest our booking should never have been taken as the staff just weren't available to give us any decent quality of service in the restaurant. The food was dreadful and overpriced - to be honest I'd have had a better meal and better service if we'd gone to McDonalds!!

We were greeted at reception who offered us the brassier or the lounge to have our afternoon tea, we chose the lounge for the informal setting and was shown to our seat, we were then introduced to Sue who would take our drinks order. We were then presented with a lovely arrangement of fresh sandwiches with assorted fillings, several cakes and scones with jam and fresh cream. Sue was so lovely nothing was too much trouble for her, she was chatty and kept us topped up with refil drinks, if we needed anything she was there, and when finishing her shift came to say goodbye and directed us to the barman should we require anything else. We had a Living Social voucher for afternoon tea and so booked in here for today. There is plenty of parking at this hotel - although the parking for people with a blue badge is not that close to the front door. We were directed to the main reception to book in and then taken to a choice of tables in the Brasserie, we chose one by the window. A very cheerful waitress called Sue greeted us and asked us what we wanted to drink, there was a choice of teas and we chose Early Grey. After fetching the tea Sue asked if we would like iced water as well and fetched us a jug of iced water which was very welcome. The main event - the cake stand arrived, on it were eight sandwiches with six different fillings including egg mayo, beef, ham and chicken to list but a few. The sandwiches tasted fresh and were most enjoyable. there was two scones each, one fruit and one plain. The quantity of cream and jam was not really enough for four scones but I think had we asked for more it would have been provided - we actually took two scones home! There was four small cakes each including a Victoria sponge, a piece of Bakewell and two other small cakes - all very tasty. Sue came by our table to ask if everything was OK and of course it was, Sue was a delight to interact with and also very professional. All in all a very enjoyable afternoon tea - highly recommended.

Two items on the daily 'special menu' were unavailable, as i was told they had been the previous day. Two main courses were sent back because the meat was too tough to cut let alone chew and even when they had been zapped in the microwave, or whatever, they were still impossible to cut. A 45 minute wait for the sweet menu was bad enough, but when, after a further 10 minutes the waitress came back to say that one order was 'off', our patience was wearing thin. i must give the waitress full marks for trying. Three hours after starting the meal she breezed in with the bill and hoped we had all 'enjoyed our meal' - looking at our faces she edited her comment to 'well I hope the rest of you enjoyed it'!

The tomato soup tasted like a packet mix and the fishcakes (1 and a half - 3 small pieces) were no better than extremely cheap fish fingers, pretty flat and surely not homemade! The service was extremely slow- our drinks took nearly 20 mins to arrive and we had to go and ask again for them. The mains Were ok. However, we asked the waiter if it came with veg, he said yes and of course it didnt arrive. We asked him about the veg and he said he would check with the chef. He later came back to say no, it didnt come with veg. We asked him if we could have some because he had got it wrong and he said he would get it. 15 mins later after we had finished our mains, he wandered into the room to another table. We called him over and he said, oh sorry, I forgot. Deserts were running out and we had the choice of 3. 10 mins after we ordered, the waitress came back and said they had run out of the one we ordered. They were pretty average, bought in we suspect. There were no spoons either...another wait! This so far had taken 1 3/4 hours so we gave coffee a miss. The table next to us had been in 2 and a half hours! All other tables in the room had the same problems. We were all laughing in the end at how bad it was, and finally, they had all the wrong food and drink down for our table when we came to pay. It was no laughing matter considering the meal came to around £50 with only 2 drinks. Breakfast however was lovely, how could it be so different!

The food in the restaurant is the worst I have ever experienced. Staff while polite were very over stretched. We were a couple and they sat us at a long table set for four, with little cutlery. We waited for half an hour between each course after we had eaten. No one came to ask if we wanted more drinks. The couple on the next table asked to see the manager but he didn't show. The quality of the food was very poor. Wouldn't come back and wouldn't recommend.

We were disappointed with the food here. We had ordered sandwiches and were delivered food on a roll. It was accompanied with salad and coleslaw. It was around 9pm and the salad and coleslaw looked like they had been lying all day. Dried up and yucky looking.

We had high hopes for this restaurant because of the number of positive reviews. Our meal, sadly was pretty awful from start to finish. My wife's salad leaves were almost all rotten - browned and blackened all round the edges. My starter was okay...Both venison and duck were ordered medium rare but came very well done. Both dishes were covered in the same gloopy gravy (think cheap, roast dinner).Devastated that the bill came to £55 (no desserts, one glass of wine) but ended up paying much less thankfully. We discovered that the head chef was not in the kitchen that evening, but still... My wife and I are not professionally trained but would be embarrassed to serve that to our friends, let alone paying customers!

The worst meal we,ve ever had anywhere. Had to be sent back, no replacement meal offered. The whole evening was a faulty towers experience. We paid top money for a special evening which we won,t forget for all the wrong reasons. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. As they say " you live and learn ".

We stayed overnight at this hotel and decided to eat there too and pleased to say we were delighted we did. Excellent meal. We chose to eat from the two course set meal and then chose our dessert from the Al a Carte menu. Our rump steak was second to none and it was only as we finished eating it did we realise that we had not been given a steak knife and fork. That was how tender it was and it cut like butter. This was the only omission and I am mentioning it in a positive not negative statement because the meal was beautifully presented and the service was excellent

In spite of a major mess-up on our booking, when the food came, it was well worth waiting for. There was no written advice as to what was g-free but the waitress seemed to know and was also happy to consult the chef. My salmon, poached at my request to be g-free, was a small portion but absolutely delicious and the salad dressing tasty and just sufficient. My husband's veg were a little too all-dente for him, but non-the-less tasty and all plates were attractively served. It was too late for eating much so he finished with a piece of apple pie whilst I watched! Eating from the set menu gave sufficient choice and the food was delicious.

Booked a table for myself and a friend, the restaraunt was almost empty, yet no one there to greet us or show us to our table! We sat down and .........waited, eventually helping ourselves to menus! Limited choice of food on a lunch time, the lamb burger was totally inedible, was raw on the inside yet tough as old boots, sorry to say we won't be rushing back!

The food was amazing. There was unfortunately no children's menu however the staff were accommodating and suggested we order a bar meal for our son and they would bring it to our table as soon as it was ready even if the adults meals weren't ready. The desserts are amazing especially the cheeseboard as you can choose how many cheeses you would like (3-5) and which ones.

excellent meal. got a bonus amouse bouche of vegetable soup with olive bread which was delicious. for starter i had cauliflower soup with wednesleydale cheese panna cotta, im a huge fan of cheede so this was ideal for me, the walnut tuiles were a little tasteless but didnt spoil the dish. for main i had seabass with baby veg and chive mash, portion was a touch small but was lovely nonetheless. i chose the cheese slate for dessert and to be honest i could of had that for my main meal, you can choose from 3 to 6 cheeses, which are all locally sourced. my favourite was the harrogate blue which i will try to buy for myself. the pinot grigo wine was also lovely. staff were very attentive and polite. superb

A winter break to Harrogate meant that we selected a place to stay where we could eat in, what a superb meal on both evenings preceded by amuse bouche compliments of the chef, a lovely addition. Presentation was lovely, service with a smile and both the steak and the pork I had was delectable. Very good value for money for such execution.

A hotel venue I know really well having been to many large functions there. The food is usually adequate and exactly what you would expect of a meal for 300 people. On a whim we visited the Brasserie as we could walk and have a drink. The ambiance is excellent....cleverly keeping you away from the functions in the other parts of the hotel. the food is a different league from elsewhere in the hotel. Our waitress Olivia was first class, a good intelligent level of conversation, attentive but not overly so. My only caveat is that a starter of scallops with only 2 scallops is a touch embarrassingly mean. They did look at bit lonely on the plate. Main course delicious. Overall a thoroughly pleasant experience and particularly good value. 3 courses £20. Well done.

3 course sun lunch was £16.95 or £14.95 for 2 courses.Enjoyed the roast beef (med rare and matured beef) +veg and lovely big proper Yorks Pud and nice gravy.Deserts were good, I had bread and butter pudding and custard, very tasty. We both had prawn cocktail as starters but it was very bland, no paprika, no chopped tomato, nothing to give it any colour or flavour.Pre starter was complimentary and it was welcome, a little scone type bread, nice.Malbec wine at £18 a bottle was very tasty and good value from a 4* hotel. We would book it again, good quality brasserie .

I would never normally think of going to a hotel restaurant as a non resident diner but having my sisters wedding here we came for a pre wedding meal. It was unbelievably good food! Sarah looked after us so well, there was a lot of us so we had our own private dining room, great for the kids! All food was of the highest quality and reasonably priced, we had taste card too so even better! The 3 course for £20 was unbelievable value. Would highly recommend to all, resident or non resident!! We will be back soon!!

Excellent food and worth a visit. We stayed at the hotel and having had quite a journey the day we arrived decided to dine at the hotel that evening. A la carte reasonable hotel prices but we had a set menu of 3 courses for £20 and with a taste card this proved excellent value for money. Food was excellent, well presented and service was good. Only 1 criticism was that we were served warm white wine initially which in my mind should never happen. We complained and this was dealt with, but not all that quickly although what we had was good in the end.

Was staying locally and popped in on a Sunday morning for breakfast. The graffiti/street art exterior belies the fact this is a calm, peaceful local cafe. Crepes and waffles seem to be their thing but
