Arrived after having booked a table earlier. No table ready and looked surprised we had turned up although we were listed on their bookings sheet. Had to wait a while until a table was made ready and a manager found and consulted. Took a while for our order to be taken and the food (Roast Sunday Lunch) was very nice. I attempted to contact one of the serving staff by raising my hand 3 times, there was no response. A person waiting to be served a drink at the bar decided to sit down as he had waited so long for someone to turn up at an empty bar and serve him drinks. I wanted a dessert but no one came to check on us throughout the meal to see if we wanted another drink or dessert. Eventually I gave up and decide not to have one. Interestingly enough a group leaving as we were eating complained to the Chef that the service was very poor but his food was lovely. Seems like a similar experience to ours.

“I didn’t know quite what to expect from having my Sunday lunch here to be honest, but it was actually really good. Don’t be put off by the cheap price, as this has no reflection on the quality. Would definitely come again, without a doubt.”

We went here for a family birthday celebration and have to say we could not fault it. Staff were very attentive and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Only a couple of small glitches with the meal but they were sorted immediately, without any issue. Food was beautiful and tasty. Good variety to choose from. Would we go here again...Most definitely.

Although we hadn't pre booked dinner in the restaurant, we decided to treat ourselves and brought our family members to the hotel. The food was amazing, quick service and tasty. Four of us went last night at 7pm. Only a handful of people to serve and the service was so slow. Waited around 20 - 25 mins for our food and my fish and chips was only warm. The others asked for salad cream to go with their burgers and some salad and after another five minutes one of the young girls came over to inform us they don't have salad cream only mayonnaise which was no problem so asked for that instead please. Over half way through the meal those that wanted it asked another waitress for some so she fetched a tiny dish for three of them a few minutes later. The desert menu wasn't good either as there was hardly any choice but included christmas pudding if you wanted something warm. The waitress apologised that the sticky toffee pudding ( which the men enjoyed last last time ) and so forth wasn't been served anymore and not even such as cheesecake or what you normally expect. Last time we went we thought it could be better but as it was a meerkat 2 - for - 1 we decided to go again as it might have improved. Nope, it was worse. NO VEGAN food ( as far as I could see ) so forget it iff you are vegan as apparantly you should call first to ask them to cater for you.. Total price for a basic meal and drink would have been £74 for four of us, so we enjoyed the 2 - for - 1 .We pay for what we get but this was overpriced . Still left tip and and didn't moan whilst there as it isn't worth it. They need tips on service and the menu as well or at least they did last night. Maybe we went on the wrong night and menu a one off but not going again.

My friend and I decided to visit the restaurant as we had a meerkat 2 for 1 deal Was looking forward to trying the food, we perused the menu online, but when seated we where given what looked like a specials menu with limited options. But thought give it a whirl, I decided to have battered haddock and salad, my friend opted for the icon burger, whilst waiting, we saw other food coming out and the fish and chips especially looked good. When our food arrived, my fish looked a tad anaemic and flat, nothing like the plate of food other diners received, my friends burger looked overdone, but we tucked in nevertheless, unfortunately my batter was thick and soggy, I took most of it off, and the fish looked grey and it didn't taste too good, I was reluctant at first to make a complaint, but when the waitress come over, I had to ask if the fish was fresh or had been frozen, she said it was fresh, she took the batter to the chef, and come back and apologised and offered to cook me another, as the chef had said it was undercooked, but I declined, as I had gone off it, I was given a complimentary drink, and have to say the desserts where lush, I did ask if the menu online is also offered at the table, and was told the online menu is a guide only, which is misleading, I'm more prone to thinking we where only offered the specials menu as we had the meerkat deal.....very disappointed...

Chose here as somewhere a bit nicer for a special occasion and asked on booking about child's meals to be told it was the same menu but slightly smaller portion and therefore slightly cheaper. Booked the table for 5pm, to be told when we arrived that they didn't start serving until 5.30pm, and despite one of our party arriving slightly late, we were 'pounced' on as soon as she arrived to give our order even though she hadn't even seen the menu! Confirmed re childs' portion on arrival, and requested a child's meal when ordering, so when the bill came, queried the full price meal the 8 year old in our party had... To then be told there is no child menu nor any changes to the menu it's just one. Queried again that I had been told twice that children got a smaller/cheaper version from the main menu, to be told I hadn't been told that! Disappointing end to an otherwise pleasant celebration. Won't be returning and wouldn't recommend to parties wanting to take children in their party.

It was a beige buffet of pastry, dry and uninspiring. The finger sandwiches were ok as was the scone with cream and jam but other items horrid. No cake or anything delicate or what we would consider and expect to find on an 'afternoon tea'. The strangest item was a deep fried in batter slice of halloumi, greasy and bland. Very odd for afternoon tea! We were 2-4-1 but still wouldn't buy it again

We visited here on a Sunday at about 4pm so it was fairly quiet, there were six of us and I had said that I wanted to use the Meercat 2 for 1 which was no problem. We all opted for the 3 courses for £19.95 which was £3 more than the prices quoted on the website, also the menu had slightly more choice online. I did point this out to the waitress and suggested it be brought up to date. The food was nice, sirloin of beef with the usual accompaniments. I would have preferred a bowl of proper veg though than the farty parcel it came with, although a bowl of cabbage and bacon was served too, so at least there was something to bulk it out. Now, the drinks, a few in the party asked for a pint of coke, this came in a pint glass but was about 2/3 full, then later others were ordered, same. It turns out that they were 2 bottles and whilst this wasn't a problem per se, the £1.90 per bottle, so £3.80 per "pint" was. So be warned. It was naughty of the waitress not to point this out when we ordered. The other drinks weren't cheap either. So would we go again? Yes we would but I would have a jug of water with my meal. With the 2 for 1 deal it is good value, if you are paying full price then I would say it's all of its money.

I was staying in the hotel for the night (separate review) and decided to eat in the restaurant. Upon going to the bar before being seated I was rather disappointed with the lack of choice for draft beers. Couple of basic lagers, couple of ciders, Tetleys and San Miguel. I asked if they had any bottled beers - no. So I said I'd have a pint of Guinness, pointing to the Guinness pump. At which point the bar staff got a can of Guinness out of the fridge! When I stopped her from opening this and said I wanted draft I was told, rather rudely I thought, that the pump was staging only and can or nothing. Running out of choices, I had a pint of San Miguel as it was a sunny warm day.

We then had fish and chips, it was delicious fresh flaky fish in a crisp batter, the chips were fresh potato and chunky, with mushy peas. This was even before they had arrived and there was plenty of table free!!... NOT a good start to our stay. So not to be disappointed for our 2nd night we booked a table with reception. Went with 37 friends to a Motown xmas party night. Not sure what to say. The food was absolutely dreadful. The soup was like wallpaper paste, no seasoning or flavour. The main - I had salmon, it was ok but was served with a strange, bright yellow sauce, again no flavour , some potatoes and frozen veg. In our platter we had one piece of broccoli to share!!! There was no salt and pepper on the table so couldnt even add our own seasoning. The desserts, I had chosen lemon panacotta but the waiter was wandering round saying he had too many chocolate tortes so I accepted one of those instead. It just tasted of cocoa powder and was far too rich. I tasted my friends panacotta - it was rank!! No lemon had been anywhere near it, it was a really small portion and the consistency was curdled. Most people held their plates up and sent it back. Some were offered an alternative but not everyone got one. One replacement was xmas pudding but it was served with what looked like warm milk, ( supposedly custard! The chef should be ashamed of serving food like this. No mince pies, teas or coffees were served afterwards to the tables. I found out later you had to go into a different room to get a tea/ coffee. That is not good service. Meal took forever nearly two hrs to be served and cleared away. This night was done on the cheap with mass catering at a cost of £37 . I really would like a partial refund it was so bad. The entertainment was ok , just one man singing on his own. The stage was not decorated just a plain white space.Drinks were very expensive too but they often are at venues like this. Wont be going there again !

The food was mixed. The starters ( trio of salmon/ duck parfait and prawn and apple salad) were simply stunning. The sample of soup was an unexpected surprise and was delicious. This is when things failed somewhat; two dishes arrived and these were presented well and smelled heavenly. The third meal, the one which took less time to cook arrived almost five minutes later. The gammon on the yellow belly wasn't cooked properly and the cut for the rump was full of gristle, hidden well with greens. Portion control on the chips was poor, they could have been fewer and presented with the meal, rather than in a separate dish. The gammon steak was cooked well and the egg topper had a lovely runny yolk. The wine we shared was perfect, it was smooth with a very pleasant taste. Chef needs to work closely with the team to ensure the meals are delivered together. Otherwise the meal was ok.

This venue is of great splendour, especially if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of town or city life. when you are sitting down with a luxurious hot drink and a bite to eat, you are looking over a spectacular golf course which is delightful because you get lost in your surroundings and don't realise that you are in Grimsby. The staff are professional, friendly and very welcoming and are always there to assist. The food is very nice and is at a high standard. The room has a largely modern, contemporary feel to it. I would recommend it more for those without young children although if you are staying at the hotel side of it, they do acknowledge children and can cater as required, although you tend to find it is more for couples, business persons and older generation. It is also an ideal place to eat if you are looking for a wedding reception.

Since my review in 2013, I have revisited the hotel but not the restaurant, for no reason other than it did not fit in with plans. Jenna, the new maître d', is a breath of fresh air, professional & friendly. All the serving staff were the right level of attentive: there when they were needed. The cuisine is still of a high standard. I was entertaining three friends. Two of us had scallops on a cauliflower purée - absolutely heavenly. The other two had starter-sized toad-in-the-hole. Demolished. My main was Gressingham duck pan-fried to perfection with a succulent pink flesh. Another took the cheese course for her main - this time the cheeses had reached room temperature. Spaghetti Bolognese for another was not all sloppy, but done Italian style with plenty of meat. And finally a chicken curry filled a chap who is not keen on overly spicy food: he was really happy with his dish and polished off the lot.I was the only one of the group that opted for a dessert: three sorbets including a champagne ice and one with passionfruit. Totally refreshing. Now I am really looking forward to my next visit to see friends in Grimbsby!

I usually just drive by this hotel as it looks rather dated, it isn't on the inside believe me. Very up to date and relaxing with the furnishings and decor. The staff were really pleasant and made us very welcome. We decided to have our drinks (a bottle of pink fizz :-)) at our table while we choose our meals. The menu changes at the weekend from the week so plenty to pick whatever day you go to check it out. I had the supreme chicken, yorkshire pud, fab roasties and veg, delicious. My hubby had a salmon and crushed potatoes dish which he enjoyed, you also get good portions too. We decided to have a desert as you had a choice of 2 or 3 courses for a set price too. I had the sticky toffee pudding with the raspberry custard (real raspberries) Gorgeous. Hubby had the flapjacks and berries with orange curd ( home made) altogether great experience and will definitely be going back soon.

I Have eaten here for the past 6 months while staying at the hotel, the staff (molly, mandy, jenna, Danielle) are always welcoming make you feel very much at home, helpful and accommodating as a vegetarian/vegan they are more than happy to ask the chef if there is something that can be made up, options on the menu are growing. All food that has been made is very fresh and enjoyable. Thank you for being so amazing every single day

After hearing some great things about this restaurant I decided to treat my kids to Sunday lunch in the Brasserie and I'm so glad I did. From walking into the hotel every member of staff we saw was friendly and welcoming. The restaurant has a light airy feel to it overlooking a lush green golf course and I felt the kids were welcome rather than just tolerated like at other restaurants we have been to.Its always hard to find somewhere that caters for all of us, I'm a vegetarian and the kids can be incredibly fussy with what they eat but nothing was too much bother for the staff. We were well looked after by all the team. For starters we ordered tomato soup, melon kiwi and strawberry salad, garlic bread, prawn and apple salad and broccoli and spinach soup. They were very quick to deliver and the food was hot and freshly prepared. The soups were absolutely delicious, rich and full of flavour. My son said the tomato soup was the best he has ever had - high praise indeed from an 11 year old tomato soup fan! The melon kiwi and strawberry salad was yummy the fruit was really juicy and fresh. Overall we were really impressed with the starters and the decent portion sizes.Main courses were equally impressive, between us we had ordered chicken dinner, 2 beef dinners, haddock and prawn roulade and vegetarian option sunday lunch. I wasn't keen on the aubergine dish that was on the menu but i was offered veggie sausages as an alternative to the meat on a lunch and that was brought out with my own jug of veggie gravy. The kids loved having the veg and potatoes in serving bowls so they could help themselves to whatever they liked, resulting in clean plates all round. I really didn't think we would be able to handle a pudding after all that delicious food but my kids can't turn down ice cream! several flavours to choose from meant it was a big decision but 3 of them had ice cream and again clean bowls all round, One went for sticky toffee pudding which almost disappeared in seconds it was so nice, i had the apple and raspberry crumble with custard, it was divine! The staff were great, checking everything was ok and bringing drinks or ketchup as required, we didn't feel rushed at all and the atmosphere in the Brasserie was very relaxed. There was a man playing the piano and he was really good, he played such a wide range of tunes from Pachelbel to Ed Sheeran via Lion King non stop for 2 hours, we really enjoyed it and the afternoon flew by. The kids have already asked when we can go again!!Thanks to the Manager, Waitresses, Chef, kitchen staff and the pianist for a great Sunday afternoon!

I stay at the Humber Royal hotel on a regular basis and the new Brasserie menu offers excellent food at a set price of £24.95 for a 3 course meal, plus either a pint or glass of wine. This offers great value for money and great service.

Had eaten here a couple of years ago but at lunch time. Never experienced an evening meal so thought we'd give it a go to round my birthday weekend off. Was directed to the bar/lounge area until a table was ready for us, and no sooner had our drinks been made, the waitress was waiting to seat us. The menu selection I found to be a little sparse... there was a good handful of things on there, but the majority of meals, the prices tended to be £20+, and not wanting to spend that much on a meal each, we opted for one of the cheaper dishes (there were probably only 4-6 to choose from). We both went for the supreme of chicken, which stated it was with chorizo and garlic oil.. the description made it sound really tasty, however when it arrived, the chorizo was extremely small and mixed in with the rice, so it was barely noticeable. The rice was tasty, being drizzled with garlic oil, but with the breast/leg of chicken on top, I wouldn't say it was worth £15. You had to pay extra if you wanted vegetables too. Also, the tables are far too close to one another, especially the 2 seaters. About 15 minutes into us being sat down, another man came and sat himself down right beside us and basically ruined the whole dining experience as he was by himself, and had nothing else better to do than listen into our conversation. This is not the restaurants fault but what really aggravated me was there were a few other 2 seater tables that were slightly more isolated that he could have sat at, but nope! Either way, it made me feel uncomfortable and like I couldn't talk with my partner because I know he could hear every word. Sometimes restaurants would rather cram a few more tables into a space to get more money than make customers experiences enjoyable. I'm sure I'm not the only person who would feel like this, and because of this along with the food/price, I probably won't return.

We were on a dinner bed and breakfast package, this meant a 3 course meal, with one or two items with a small supplement. We ordered a bottle of white wine which was a recommendation and it was very good. For starters I had a blue cheese pannacotta it was light but delicious, my friend had chicken and asparagus roulade also really good. For main course we both ordered haddock and chips, the waitress said it was the size of a whale. Well it was a huge portion, but the batter was fantastic fish fresh, the chips were described on the menu as "chip shop chips" I want to know the chip shop that produces chips like them as they were the best I've ever had! We had to wait for desert which again was delicious, my brownie and ice cream beat me! My friend however enjoyed all her delicious pannacotta and little fish shaped shortbread biscuits. The most outstanding part of our experience though had to be the service, Mandy and Selina, they were courteous, helpful and so nice, joking with us and the other customers. I know this place is open to non residents, so if in the area try it, you won't be disappointed.

On arrival they were expecting us, and immediately advised they had a GF version for my friend and we both enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea,The staff were courteous and friendly, and the service was excellent.Highly recommend, excellent value for money.

Dined here by way of default as we were staying at the Humber Royal (see my review on that) so we had plenty of time prior to dining to assess the menu and consider our options. The menu dishes were varied and covered a range of prices so it was hard not to be catered for. I'm not a veggie so I am unable to give advice as to whether they are adequately catered for. The service, food and ambience was faultless and if the locals want to try somewhere 'far from the madding crowd' then I would recommend they try this place.

We were directed through to the restaurant where we were told we'd be greeted, we were not. We used this time constructively to pick our drinks, sadly this took all of 10 seconds due to lack of choice. Once the drinks were ordered we sat in the lounge and were eventually given nearly enough menus for our party of three. The 2 most appealing options on the menu were not available. The waitress was then annoyed when we didn't order quickly. We paid our round of drinks and promptly left without dining.

Upon arrival to the Humber Royal Hotel, we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who directed us through to 'The Brasserie' where apparently we would be seen to. This was not the case as we were stood by the bar for at least 10 minutes until a member of staff came to greet us, the time we were waiting gave us time to assess the bar which we felt lacked in choice compared to other more basic restaurants in the area. We took a seat in the lounge and awaited the arrival of the final member of our party and given menus to look at, but there didn't appear to be a lot of choice; we were informed that certain dishes weren't available which made a decision of what to order even harder. A waitress came over and asked if we were ready to order but she seemed very frustrated and annoyed when we said we weren't ready. After discussion with my party we felt that we should leave The Brasserie and find somewhere else to eat. I have never walked out of a restaurant but as a party we felt this was not a place where we'd like to dine.

The restaurant is an attractive feature within the Hotel. The exterior of the hotel looks a bit foreboding, being an unattractive 'block', but visitors should persevere. The bright and comfortable bar/restaurant facility is agreeable, with friendly and attentive staff. The menu is more than sufficient and daily specials add value to the selections.Nice tableware and linen napkins add appeal to what is a modern setting, which is enhanced with attractive views over Grimsby golf course.

The Humber Royal organised my Son & now Daughter in Laws wedding with the help of Sarah the wedding organiser at the end of May. Simon and his team made their day very very special. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this venue for a special wedding, nothing was too much trouble. What a wonderful day. At lot of us stayed the night and the bedrooms were very clean and comfortable with an excellent full English breakfast in a dedicated room just for their wedding guests. We have often eaten in the restaurant at Humber Royal over the last couple of years and enjoyed every meal we have had. Thanks to Anne the General Manager and her team for maintaining such a good hotel. Thanks again to you all.

Had a meal here with my grandparents and there was hardly anything to fault. The food was excellent (I had steak with was cooked to perfection!) The staff were wonderful and polite, I also had a pudding from the specials menu (ginger sponge) it was much smaller than i expected and seemed to expensive for what it was- however it tasted beautiful. The atmosphere was wonderful as was the music in the background. well done Humber Royal!
