Had breakfast and dinner at the hotel on two days. Breakfasts and dinner were excellent, great food, well presented, and served by brilliant staff. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The DBB element of our stay was due to being transferred from another hotel. When we were transferred we were assured that the costs of a 3 course meal were fully covered by the original hotelier. However, the gentleman running the floor on this night proceeded to tell us that they could not offer us a DBB menu and therefore we only had an allowance of £22.00 for 2 courses from selected meals (which they could not confirm). We therefore had to ring the original hotel to confirm what had been agreed and give the phone to the gentleman to confirm the deal. He then continued to tell us that we could only pick from a limited selection despite the fact that another member of staff had already taken our order. That said, all courses were beautifully cooked - credit to the chef. The actual restaurant/brasserie itself is like a school canteen with no ambience whatsoever, but the food was lovely. This was the only enjoyable part of our stay.

we booked to celebrate a birthday. Due to covid a very limited menu was available the food was not good and the price was absolutely astronomical the total bill for 3 starters, 1 burger, 1 pizza and 1 pasta dish 3 non alcoholic drinks and 6 alcoholic drinks with £10 per person deducted and almost £10 added for service charge was in excess of £70 we will definitely not be booking in the future and warn anyone thinking of booking to think again. An absolute rip off.

We have been coming to mercure for a work do for many years. This year was the best yet. It’s always hard to cater for a large party but they do it well here. Three course with three choices. I had the pate, turkey and the toffee pudding. Turkey was a huge portion, 3 massive potatoes. My favourite was the dessert though, came with a lot of custard, not just a sniffle like in other places. Loved the peach Bellini. Had a sneaky two. Giant mask decorations, loved them. Only criticism is the toilets which are straight from 70’s. I am back in March with my mum for an afternoon tea and spa day. We are looking forward to it

Breakfast buffet offering both hot and cold selections. Lovely cooked breakfast, and food replenished pretty quickly. If breakfast not included in room price, there are other places to dine within walking distance, as this is approx £15 each if paid for seperately.

I am in the North of England, where is the black pudding ? Aside from that, the breakfast staff are great and the selection is decent. Coffee is excellent. You can eat as much as you want.

The service is friendly and efficient but the food is poor. My Ceasar salad consisted of lots of lettuce including the hearts of the lettuce chopped up with an average dressing.

The staff and Service were excellent. The food was not as good. The terrine starter was firm and tasty, but far too much good salad. The main course chicken was cooked beautifully but the ham hock cassoulade too runny. The apple/fruit crumble was a little stodgy and the custartd too thin.

I can only think that the chef needs to wake up and if there are what I would call basic ingredients such as garlic, instead of just striking things off the menu send someone to get some. I did actually take a look the following morning and the Waitrose store almost next door had plenty. I'm sure a local purchase order would have been sanctioned for a one off purchase. Not quite the anniversary meal I expected and so Ended up with an overpriced burger which was okay.

We recently arranged an 80th Birthday afternoon tea party for my sister-in-law. We ordered English Cream Teas for all at £12.50 per head. When we arrived we had to wait for another party to finish before we could start. After about a 20 minute wait we able to access the dining area and welcome our guests. There was no tea or coffee made available as they arrived. The food arrived but it was not served to our guests on plates/stands in any way as it should have been. They had go around the corners out of the main dining area to where the food was left on the breakfast counter. The sandwiches were standard triangles on three plastic trays. They had clearly been frozen beforehand and were not very nice. The fillings were minimal. The cakes were small and not very interesting. They were all on one plate. The scones were tiny, cut in half and had a blob of some sort of buttery cream on them. Not nice and not what was expected. The tea and coffee were OK but refills were slow to arrive as we were not being waited on very attentively. The was another surprise. The 4 children at the party could not have a cold drink unless we paid extra at the bar. Considering we had paid £12.50 for each child that was simply mean. It cost us an extra £10 for 4 diet cokes! We have written to the hotel to complain about the poor quality and VFM. Their response is to say the chef thought it 'best' not have the sandwiches on stands. To us that was just plain lazy. Even if they didn't have enough stands they could have just used plates. The hotel did not address the quality of the food. They did not resolve the issue of the children's drinks. The hotel did offer complimentary Cream Tea for 4 people as a form of compensation. We decided not accept this as it simply misses the point. Overall I felt the hotel could not have cared much less. After all was only a group of old people. We simply didn't seem to matter much to them. They took our money and expected us to accept what were are given. Very poor VFM. 80 years should be celebrated not ripped off. Not going back. However, you are only 80 once. All round it was a saddening experience.

My parents pay for the whole family every year to go somewhere and have a nice Xmas meal....this year we went to this hotel. It was very poor...the drinks were extortionate....we sat down in the main room with about 300 other people for a Xmas meal and dinner and dance...when my soup came the waitress just plonked my soup on the the table and some spilled on to the table cloth...there was no portion control at all, my daughter having at least twice the amount in her bowl...it was all then cleared away as quickly as possible to make way for the main Xmas meal which again was rubbish, covered in gravy....the potatoes were disgusting...the dessert was just a mulch of chocolate and none of it was presented nicely...the waiters and waitresses were poorly dressed, even shabbily dressed to be honest, one girl had a rip in her blouse....this is typical of a hotel trying to grab some of the Xmas pot when they shouldn't. This hotel has been caught out! To be fair I have never stayed there on an ordinary weekend when the hotel isn't that busy so I will temper this report with an amount of fairness. However when I paid £28 for four drinks (one of which was a diet coke) I don't think I will be returning any time soon...sorry mercier hull nt very good at all....

Realmente me decepcionó bastante.

All seven of us were very disappointed with our meals , terrine was bland and served on cardboard bread , chicken pie was all crust , fish pie was all potato and little seafood , lamb tagine was passable but all meals very very expensive and the price of two glasses of wine for £ 17.00 means we will not be dining in the restaurant again as there are far better places to eat whilst staying in Hull .

We had no reservation but after purchasing our value package of £22 of food for £15 from the reception we ambled into the restaurant and were lucky to be seated immediately. The deal is only available if you are a hotel guest and it has to be pre ordered and charged to your room but it's well worth it. We were seated and shown menus as well as a wine menu. We ordered a bottle of Pinot and a jug of water and were left to look at the food menu. The waiter returned some time later to say they'd run out of Pinot so we had to choose something else. We started with a selection of breads and olives and had to remind the waiter about the water. We then both had the same starter of smoked haddock fishcake on wilted spinach with poached egg. Fab choice it was perfect. The mains arrived fairly quickly and I had the rump steak with thick cut chips onion rings and garlic mushrooms which was cooked perfectly. My partner had fish pie with seasonal greens. The portion sizes are very generous and neither of us finished our meals. The waitress was a bit enthusiastic in coming to the table when my partner paused for a drink of water and she tried to take the plates but by this time we were practically the only people left in the restaurant and I think they were wanting rid of us. I can definitely recommend the food but the service needs a bit of polishing.

We dined here on a friday night and we thoroughly enjoyed all 3 courses. The food was hot and very tasty. Staff were attentive but not invasive.if there is a negative it's that the chairs needed cleaning and there were crumbs on the seat and the curtains look a bit grubby and in need of replacement.

Joined friends last night (Friday 13th December) to a Christmas evening meal and disco (£32.50 per person), I have to say I have scored the Hotel only average, however, we had a very enjoyable evening. The food was of a good standard with a Salmon tureen to start followed by Roast Turkey a Christmas pudding for the sweet. The food was of good quality but I did feel the food was brought out too quickly and would have liked longer times between to digest. The Hotel had placed lots of party poppers/balloons etc. and we had our own table. The music was to my taste and the DJ did a quick quiz and our table won the free bottle of wine (lucky we had quiz champion's and an ex local DJ in our team) The atmosphere was a little thwarted due to the fact the room was only 2/3rds full but we made the most of it.My gripe is with the cost of the drinks, £7.00 for a glass of wine is ridiculous, most Hotels give a discount if you buy a bottle but this Hotel Charges £21.00 a bottle so no savings there. Some of the bar staff don't do eye to eye contact and a "thanks you" when passing change would have been nice.To conclude we had a good night, good food, little atmosphere with very expensive drinks, we will probably will be looking for an alternative next year. The cost of the drinks moved my slider down a notch from very good to average.

This was a large function with a prominent after dinner speaker. It had the makings of an excellent evening in prospect, drawing experienced and discerning people from the business world. The meal was a simple one - soup or salad for starter, chicken or vegetarian for main course, choice of 2 desserts. Difficult to mess up, one might think - but they succeeded where others might fail ...The soup, allegedly 'freshly made carrot and coriander' tasted anything but. The chicken was rubbery and unassuming, despite being embellished with 'sun-blushed tomatoes' etc (one could imagine why they might have been blushing...). The 'glazed lemon tart' with raspberry salsa appeared to be several days old. The raspberry salsa was the best part - presumably from a tin.Service was very poor, as service from the bar had been earlier. The 3 staff behind the bar excelled in avoiding eye contact and interaction with customers and were very slow and inexperienced. Why don't hotels like the Mercure invest in training their staff - and have a hands-on management policy to make sure they're coping? What a let down. I don't think it will be the chosen venue for future functions for many of those attending.

Mo and the team are simply the best. Extremely friendly and welcoming. The food is a 10/10 and always consistent. I can highly recommend the garlic chilli chicken and the lamb rogan josh. James and Emma 😁
