The Bowes Incline in Gateshead

Didn't eat. Tried to have a beer on a quiet Thursday afternoon. No dogs allowed in the bar.

Visited here for meal only. Great staff. Food lovely but portions are huge.

A bit of the beaten track but worth the visit. Good choice of food which had always been tasty with ample sized portions. Service is always good and prices reasonably.

My food was really good, had fajitas. The lasagne was ok. Service was ok, we had to wait ages for the bill even though the restaurant wasn't busy at all.

2nd stop at this wonderful hotel and certainly won't be the last. Stayed on 22nd December for one night whilst visiting family and wasn't disappointed. Room was brilliant Breakfast is the best and included in price and by far the best I have had in hotels Service and check in brilliant Look forward to visiting again on our next visit to see family

We went for dinner couple saturdays ago we where seated furthest away than ever. Waited 15 mins for drinks order place not busy then got our lunch chips cold but nobody about to say anything to. Just seeme like ushered away . 1st time there wont go back.

My third visit in the past few months. This time for our work team Christmas lunch. Good choice on the Christmas Fayre menu at very good value. Ordering was straightforward. The food was delicious, excellent portions and lots of vegetables and extra gravy. Service was excellent considering the pub was packed! Would definitely recommend.

Could hear the music in the restaurant in my room, asked to turn down and nothing happened. Breakfast was eggs benedict, really good.

Decent place to go for a meal. Food was good, service was really good from excellent staff. Beer is also good. Location is a bit hidden away and could be difficult to find if not local to the area.

First time I've been there. Went for lunch with friends. Really enjoyed it. Would definitely ho back.

Family Sunday lunch. Slow service but understandable as it was extremely busy. Staff friendly and helpful. Food was really good. Yes I would revisit. Only 1 gripe - we were sat beside wall mounted TV - so although no sound we felt like fish in a bowl as people's gaze was of course the TV - was it really needed??

Didn’t stay so purely a review for the food. Went for Sunday dinner with my partner and a friend, meat was dry, virtually no seasoning at all and all the vegetables were boiled. At almost £15 (more for lamb) they charge high prices for a bottom of the barrel Sunday lunch.

As always the food was worth the trip. Well cooked and great value.

We came back to Tyneside for a family visit. Stayed for two nights. The staff were both welcoming & professional. The room was great & bathroom superb 👌 The breakfast & in particular the evening meals exceptional! We would highly recommend.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Bowes Incline in Gateshead, even though the stay was for one night it was still a lovely experience. The room I had was spacious, well-decorated, and clean, also the bed was comfortable which is everything anyone could really ask for. The location is convenient, with easy access to local attractions like The Angel Of The North and the MetroCentre. Overall, The Bowes Incline offers a perfect blend of comfort, style, and hospitality. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Gateshead or Newcastle!

Great find. We stayed for a week and ate at the restaurant every evening as the food was superb, great choices too. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Would definitely like to go back and highly recommend a visit for a meal or to stay.

I stayed for two nights in August whilst visiting Beamish, Durham and Seaham. I would definitely stay again if in the area as really good room rates with the bonus of the excellent pub/restaurant next door through reception. Although it is situated just off the motorway l heard no traffic noise and slept really well.

Overnight stay on the way up to Northumberland. Great countryside location near to the angel of the North. Lovely friendly staff. Food was wonderful. Evening dinner in the pub & a hearty full English breakfast, thanks

A small freindly hotel very close to A1/M, but no traffic noise in bedroom. Breakfast good, evening meal in bar tastey and reasonably priced, good selection of beers. If your visiting Gateshead and don't necessarily want to stay in town, or spend a fortune, would recommend.

Well just stayed overnight this week It was awesome The rooms are beautiful and well maintained The food and staffing the restaurant were amazing so helpful 1st class all round thank you so much

We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting the north. The location is off the beaten track, but close enough to the motorway for it to have easy access. We were greater by a lovely lady who couldn’t be more helpful even when we checked in at 10:30pm - she even kept the bar open for us to have a quick night cap! Breakfast was included and tasty! We also had dinner at the pub with cocktails/drinks. All food and drink was delicious, especially the thick cut home made chips!!! The staff are happy and friendly, and it’s good to also see them have a laugh between themselves and the customers. I think I read somewhere it’s a family owned business since 2007 and you can really tell that it’s a local, friendly, but also high quality place. If we come up north again, we would stay here for sure!

We went to eat on a friends recommendation. He was right food is superb, portions are huge, but unlike many places with large portions quality is still amazing. "Home made" meals are especially good, the braised steak was fantastic as was the mince and dumplings. Service is really good with very friendly staff

This is a place you don't just stumble on. It's a bit off the beaten track. Taken there by friends for a meal. Woe. Wished I had known the size of portions before ordering a starter. Had the mince and dumpling Omg. Very tasty dumpling the size of baseball. Very good mash. Partner had smothered chicken with chips and veg. Very Good dianne sauce and plenty of it. Very good chips excellent veg. Easy to recommend to others,but hope you don't take my reservation.

From the service to the peas, everything was brilliant. Very nice relaxed environment and huge portions (well, we thought so). Best beef Sunday dinner I've had for quite some time and although we were told the the roast turkey was no longer available, they managed to rustle up just enough for ms picky 😄 Looking forward to trying out the midweek menu very soon.

My wife and I met friends here for an early evening meal. We each had a starter and a main course from a menu section that included two courses for £18.95. There was quite a good selection of both courses to choose from and we were all very pleased with our food. The service was very good and very friendly. All in all a very good experience.

Stayed here a few weeks ago with my son in the family room. Decoration in the room is a little dated but they are doing up the rooms at the moment, the bathroom was very nice. All the staff that we dealt with from first checking in to leaving were all very friendly and couldn’t have been any more helpful. Had breakfast every morning which was very nice and freshly made. We ate in the bar and the food was outstanding for our dinner.

Convenient location for travelling. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included in our room rate, but on 2nd day they only serve continental breakfast, which was very poor. Apparently this is all that is offered on Monday plus no food in bar after 6.30 on Sunday night.

We have not been here for over 8 years .we have never stayed there as we live only about 7 miles from the restaurant/ hotel. The Bowes incline as had a bit of a face lift and was in need of it. It's just very close to the Angle of the North if you could walk or drive across the field you would be there so for a outside it's a little off the beaten track... But it's well worth the trek. The food was excellent if you go for the two courses like I did main and dessert the size of I have never encountered ANYWHERE. The food was is first class I even gave a £5 tip(that's not like me) because the staff are the best I have encounter for a long time friendly and happy. The two course was less than £19.00. Would we go back? 100% lucky we know the roads. Well done ALL the staff there. This is an add-on We went this week 4 weeks later for Sunday lunch and I couldn't finish mine it was that much. Mash , roasted potatoes,big Yorkshire pudding, greens, gravy I had turkey my wife beef £12.25 each and I was so full my wife had to drive home ALL was fantastic people were waiting for their pre booked seats which applies on the weekend totally fantastic....

Me and my friend went for a light lunch and a catch-up. Beautiful inside and out, the staff were very friendly and not in your face. We had the jacket potato my friend had chicken tikka, and I had tuna and mayonnaise. There was the option to have cheese with it, too

80th birthday. Table for 10. Ready when we arrived. All meals huge and well cooked. Great menu. Mains average £15, Starters £6. Well stocked bar. Staff are first class, nothing is too much trouble. No hesitation in recommending the BI, been there dozens of times and will visit dozens more.

Went for lunch with friends. Good range of options on menu. Food and drinks delivered quickly after ordering. Delicious.

We booked a Christmas meal for 4 generations of family. The table was decorated nicely which helped with the occasion. The food was very nice well presented and ample portions even the children's meal was of a good size. The staff are very friendly, professional and can't do enough for their guests. The bar is lovely and cosy like a real country pub should be. Definitely worth a visit if you want are in the area.
