Popped into The Bothy for morning coffee and a scone with a friend. Alas no scones - plenty of sweet cakes which we did not really fancy in the morning. So I asked if we could please have toast but the waitress didn't think so. I asked if she would mind asking in the kitchen which she did and she came back and said no sorry you can't have toast.I should have known because we had heard the gentleman next to us ask if he could have a roll with bacon and Lorne sausage together. The waitress said they did not like to deviate from the menu. On the menu there was a bacon roll and there was a Lorne sausage roll but they could not put that into one roll . Surely you try to please your customers if you want them to come back. I know my friend and I will not be rushing back.

Disappointed. What can I say, our third visit. First visit 6 months ago first class faultless food. Second visit over Christmas 2019 2020, our starters arrived at the same time as the main course so we had to rush our food to stop it going cold. Left with raging indigestion this was at a lunch time. Third visit last night 29th February, crispy squid no batter rubbery and not crispy. Mains scampi served without salt or tartare sauce. No salt on chips none on table? Peas swimming in water bath. Fine dining or home cooking it was not £150 for 4 persons disappointed as not even up to the standard of the local pubs. Got to get attention to detail better please.

Overall the visit was average, we were the first customers through the door and the floor hadn’t been either swept or mopped from the night/day before. The selection of alcohol was fabulous however the soft drink variety was limited to 5 fentamins or hot drinks. The spicy bean burger we had fell apart although the beef burger was lovely. As a lunch stop we found over priced, £26 for 2 burgers off the lunch menu. Unfortunately we won’t be returning in a hurry.

We’re not sure if it’s worth writing a review given the hostility demonstrated to other ‘trying to be helpful reviewers’ by whoever manages the Tripadvisor responses, needless to say, we found that the niggles expressed on tripadvisor were wholly accurate; sadly.

Went to the play area with our kids and they loved it, especially the ride-on Thomas the tank engine. Food was cheap and cheerful but did the job. Only real criticism to offer was that it could’ve do
