The Boathouse Hotel Restaurant in Isle of Anglesey

Hotel situated at end of Bay Area and below mountain range. Good food and drinks. Dog friendly in the bar area and large conservatory at side of Hotel. You can visit and eat and drink there.

I went for dinner with a friend and was very impressed. Great service, friendly welcome, pleasant atmosphere. The food was well cooked and generous portions. Would definitely return

The food was tasty but pricey, I had the chicken curry & chips for £14:50 .Not homemade chips but frozen ( see photo ) - the chicken curry was home made but the chips were frozen.It’s a shame but it is what it is .

Made a booking here in error. I cancelled literally one minute later. A debit of 96 pound was taken from my card. I telephoned the manager to explain but they refused a refund.I contacted Booking.com who also requested a refund on my behalf. Again the hotel refused to refund me .How shockingly unprofessional. I have been charged for a stay I never had...shame on you..!!

Lovely atmosphere, pleasantly decorated, fabulous food! A small lunch menu but with plenty of variety. We had Seafood Chowder, Fish Pie, Boathouse Burger and Steak & Ale Pie - all excellent! Parking is not the best, be prepared to leave someone in the car to wait for a space!

We went here after a few people recommend it for a Sunday roast dinner. We was not disappointed it was amazing! Staff was lovely and friendly definitely recommend it 🙂

We had lovely service and really enjoyed the homely food however we were a family of 4, with one a young child, and didn't have many drinks and a 1 course meal came to over £70 which we would spend on much higher quality food usually. Scampi and chips over £15 seems very pricey. The decor definitely needs investment, especially when charging restaurant prices for quite standard fayre.

Staff behind bar were rude, food was ok but very expensive fir what it was. Service with a smile was not a thing here, although the waitress was actually lovely

I very very rarely leave bad reviews for places, but when I ordered 2 large diet cokes they tried to charge £10. When I queried the bill, which showed 4 glasses, rather 2, they told me that they charge two glasses for a large. I politely asked for a refund as this was too much and they refused telling me that they have already poured the drink and hence will not refund. I asked to talk to the manager and initially was refused, but eventually managed to talk to him. I was basically told that a large coke is not the same as a glass of coke, which was on their menu for £2.50. After further discussion, I was basically told my type was not wanted in the pub!! I truly hope this was a one off situation or I can't see how the business will survive. Truly horrible customer service.

Went for lunch after walking around breakwater with my two sons 10&14, kids meals were a decent size, I had a lovely simple jacket spud, but all done well and tasted lovely. The bar staff/possibly landlady was lovely, really made the boys feel comfortable and welcome, moved us indoors as she could see the youngest was cold, even entertained him, with her rubix cube skills, he was highly impressed. Kept Covid regulations really well. Very happy this is our new local.

Went with two friends, one of which happened to be black. He enquired about the newly implemented one way system to which the woman on the desk responded 'you should know you've been here enough times' with an attitude. He had never been to this resteraunt before and believes he was racially profiled.Was going to opt for the chicken curry but the woman on the desk was adamant that they could not do half rice and half chips which is ridiculous in itself, but decided to opt for the steak pie instead. The steak pie came without gravy, which is not uncommon but when asked for a side of gravy AFTER the meal was served the woman said they could not as it wasn't on the menu.The table staff were friendly in attempting to rectify the situation but the woman on the desk responded with nothing but attitude and dull looks. Should definitely get a job in another industry as customer service clearly is not her forte.Do not go here. Overpriced. Awful.

Stayed for three nights with our dog in tow. Large Room which was Very clean and comfortable beds.The breakfast was beautifully cooked .We were very well looked after each day by the lovely Cody. The only negatives were unable to connect to the hotel WiFi and there was rarely someone around on reception when needed.I would definitely recommend to anyone staying in Anglesey area,and would stay in this hotel again.

We stopped here on our trip around Anglesey for a recharge. The menu is varied but had no vegan options. As we had booked a room a few hours before the chef went out of her way to buy some provisions and prepared us a delicious gluten free, vegan meal! A lovely stir fry with quorn, mixed vegetables and teriyaki sauce with new potatoes and peas on the side. I had to pause twice to fit it all in! I think they should definitely put this on their permanent menu.

We visited for Sunday lunch - and we enjoyed ourselves!We had different food including fish and chips, a Sunday dinner and sandwiches - everything was fresh and well cooked.The staff couldn't have been more helpful - and the food wasn't over-priced... we went back after a walk round the breakwater and had coffee and yummy ice cream.

Fabulous lunch at The Boathouse today . Waitress was fantastic ensuring that meal was Gluten Free for one guest, brought out one item to show ingredients as she was unsure . Great venue and well presented .

Had lunch here today. Two meals selected. Battered fish with chips and garden peas; and sliced chicken leek and ham in a cheese sauce with new potatoes and garden peas. Both excellent. Could'nt fault it. Staff were friendly and gave the impression they enjoyed one's custom. Dogs allowed in conservatory and bar

The quality of the food at this restaurant varies enormously. My first evening meal of beef in guiness pie was lovely with lots of tender beef but my second nights meal was awful. I had the pork and bacon chop mix. Both chops were tough as old boots and very overcooked.Breakfast was bog standard with very little thought put into it. The bacon and sausage were of the cheap cash and carry type. Local butchers do far better quality. The mushrooms seemed to have been cooked a lot earlier and were dried out as was the bacon. the toast was made from bread cut too thinly to make good toast An option of black pudding would be niceOn the plus side the staff were lovely

Nice Sunday lunch with parents. As vegetarians myself and daughter ordered jacket potatoes and my parents a roast. Good food and good service. Only criticism would be lack of choice for vegetarians. Would visit again

Came with family start of January! Had a lovely meal, the food is really good! Staff very accommodating and it’s reasonably priced! Can not fault, would recommend to others!!!

Lovely restaurant over looking the harbour we sat on table 20 by the window watching the boats come in. Recommend the fish and chips so tasty couldn’t fault it here really nice for families

If I could, I would give them 6 stars. I spent there a few days and nights and feel awesome. The staff was great. Without any problem, they solved our silly problems. We could also go back quite late to our room - there was always someone at the reception desk to open the main door. Our room was cleaned every day, fresh towels, shampoo, and a shower gel - not common in many places. But, be prepared if you are from the continent - pull a string from the ceiling if you want to have power in a bathroom. Food in the restaurant - yummy. It was OK to ask for something different for breakfast than they offer in their menu. But also the choice of cereals, yogurt, and juices - we were full after breakfasts. Dinner - take crabs - huge plate with lots of veggies and yummy crab. But, no matter what we chose, it was difficult to eat everything. The good choice of beers in a bar. And a great view from the restaurant or chairs which stay outside. We had a great time there, and hope will come there again.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the food here. It is great bog standard pub grub fair.

If the staff didn’t out number the customers then it was pretty close. The food was very ordinary. Staff were great but place is greatly lacking in atmosphere.

We were a party of six and had a lovely evening meal at this hotel. Did not stay at the hotel, however the place was clean, the staff were friendly and the food delicious. Large portions, piping hot and freshly cooked. The pies are delicious cooked in lots of tasty gravy with large chunks of tender meat. All staff that took our orders and served us were great, however Marina took time out to provide useful information about the locality, she is charming with a great sense of humour. Large car park and plenty of parking on street outside. We would return without hesitation

We stay at this hotel when we come to Anglesey for a few days but, as we were here for a week we hired a cottage in Trearddur Bay. Came here for an evening meal on our last night and both the food and service are excellent.

Went here after a recommendation from a friend. Food was average - nothing to write home about. However, food was £3-4 too expensive per dish. Won’t visit again.

I really enjoyed my stay here. From the friendly welcome on arrival I knew this would be a great place. Rooms were scrupulously clean with more than ample towel provision. The bar was cosy, fun and friendly with locals and visitors alike. Breakfast was fast and filling. They are a little proud team of excellent Welsh operators who seriously know how to provide a great guest experience. Great location if you need to run to ferry the next morning. Thanks guys, I will be back.

Popped in for a pint after walking some of the coastal path and the black sky came rolling in. After 5 mins it travelled fast and blew over with a bit of lightning at sea. Lovely walk dodging the majorettes with their BBQs in the bus shelters at the festival on the front.

A good menu and all food is freshly prepared. The staff as friendly and helpful. They also provide a takeaway service. Large portions well cooked .

Even though I’m local.... this is a place I haven’t really visited for food. Popped into today with my son and friends. We had fish and chips (from the light bites section, which was larger than expected) with ice cream for dessert. I would highly recommend it! The service was friendly, especially the lovely Joan! And the food arrived very fast! Definitely be coming back here to eat

We called in here for an evening meal whilst staying in Holyhead prior to sailing to Ireland. The eating area was currently holding a wake for someone who had past away recently, so we were shown into the conservatory. There was quite a good range of food available. I had the fish and chips whilst my wife had the curry. The food was plentiful, hot and tasty. The staff were attentive, polite and hard working. If I was staying in Holyhead again I would certainly call in here for some more meals.

We really didn't know what to expect when we walked in the door, and were cheerfully greeted and seated. I had a dish with pork in some mushroom sauce over a bed of noodles and potatoes, and it was delicious. I am providing shots of the 3 dished we had. Everybody loved the food.

Visited for a quick lunch with our daughter . Not a huge menu choice but nice enough. Quick service and decent size portions. Staff were lovely, restaurant clean and spacious, but did think it was slightly pricey for what we had.

Visited on a Bank Holiday Sunday with my fiancée and young family for a spot of lunch.

Booked on arrival in Holyhead late in the day. Checked out this accommodation on Booking.com before calling in. The room was very spacious with clean bedding and comfy bed. Décor and furniture not of the standard of a £95 room. Also a drunken guest who couldn't get in at 02.00 spent 30 minutes banging on every window and shouting and swearing about not being able to get in!!!! Would have thought a small discount would have been a good will gesture. A very average accommodation

Staying here for a night every 2 Weeks since July.

Lovely room ,but again walls are thin doors slamming, towels to small,no heating in bathroom,nothing worse than a lovely hot shower to get out into a cold room. The food was ok staff very friendly as was the locals which is nice.

This restaurant is a very nice place to dine and in a great location. Rather old fashioned but with a lovely ambiance and a welcoming feel. The staff were friendly and eager to ensure that we had a pleasant time, nothing was too much trouble. Four of us dined and 3 of us were very happy with their meals. One meal was the breaded place which sadly lacked the quality of the other dishes and was a disappointment. We are all happy to recommend the Boathouse.

Been here once before last year and as a family, are planning to come here again. It has a Nice selection of food and drinks! :)

Dos veces he comido aquí nunca me decepcionó tanto ocasiones encantador paseo playa es un poco fuera del centro de la ciudad, pero a poca distancia fue muy servicial personal Wifi se puede ver la salida de los ferries roll n alojamiento (un poco cara)...

Pésimo servicio. La mujer que nos servía era grosero y tenía cero personalidad. La comida estaba bien. Pero toda justicia la comida podría ser sido Estrellas Michelin pero el servidor/camarera era suficiente para arruinar toda la visita. Ella no era una vestimenta apropiada. Nunca más.

Basic pub style food served here but expensive for what you get, as are the drinks. The staff are marvellous though, friendly, pleasant and capable.

Recently ate here and felt as if we'd gone back in time, with a rather old fashioned look to the pub and dining room. The food was poor - salmon fishcakes came with chips which weren't mentioned on the menu plus peas and salad. A largish plateful but the fishcakes were tasteless and could have been anything. Hunters chicken was slightly more tasty, came with chips and salad and was the better option. Unexciting selection of beers and average wines. This pub is in a good position but no one has capitalised on this....a pity.So, basically OK but nothing special.

poor decor, which is totally unsuitable for this location beside the country park and Holyhead harbour.The food is less than disappointing.The staff are doing their best- which is probably not good enough.This is a place to avoid unless you are looking for cheap.

We have used the boathouse on about 5 occasions in the last 3 yrs.must say everything about it has improved. The rooms especially room 18 are lovely .18 overlooks the harbour.you also get an excellent breakfast in the price of the room.nice bar area for a relaxing drink. .Overall a really nice place to stay ...the food in the restaurant is also very good value

First class hotel, room was very clean and spaceous, and the breakfast was well cooked and plentiful. Stayed here for four days and found the staff very pleasant and helpful would definitely stay again.Salty Sam

We stayed here overnight recently while on a short visit to Holyhead. It's a nice hotel with comfortable rooms and good food. The staff were very friendly and the view over the marina from our room was really nice. Good value for money.

What a great place for a restaurant - almost on the beach and close to the Breakwater Park. We sat oustside in glorious sun in the very pleasant gardens. Chose to eat baguettes and chips. Absolutely huge and excellent quality!GIve it a try - probably the best in town.

Went here for a family gathering. The buffet that was laid on was absolutely amazing. Food plentiful, fresh and extremely good variety including an array of wonderful deserts. Highly recommended for a function or just a lovely meal.Staff extremely helpful and curtious.

We ate at the Inn on the Bay - the pub attached to the Hotel (not the Restaurant) - food was good and wholesome with tasty cask ale to wash it down.

We came here for dinner. We were surprised that, for the end of July, this place was nearly empty. The menu is what one would expect - all the usual offerings of an average restaurant.The decor was vaguely 'boaty' but they could have done a lot better in view of the position. It is all a bit tired and un-memorable.The food was OK but nothing to write home about. The service was mediocre.

Great menu with good food the best Syrup sponge with loads of hot custard absolutely yum. Very friendly staff.

Just come home from the Boathouse after a family party to celebrate my father's wake.The staff were not very friendly even stating, if we wanted to take any left over food home we would have to provide our own foil/plates etc. because of health & safety rules!!It would have been interesting to know which rules, but they probably wouldn't have known.Nice buffet but, the emoyees spoilt my wake. Won't go there again.

I've been here about a year ago and the lasagne was amazing but last night it was beyond a joke it was just fatty mince and pasta with no sauce at all!! it was tasteless and boring , every one else enjoyed there meals apart from me . Very disappointed

Food isn't great here, poor ingredients and the burgers were overcooked. Chips on the side were ok. Atmosphere is ok, but wouldn't go back again unless we were desperate!

We booked a wake here. The food was really nice. They let us play our own music, had our own private room and it was lovely. The service was nice.

We were catching the ferry in the morning and as there did not seem to be many places to choose from for a meal, so we were grateful to find somewhere acceptable. Large car park. Nice view over the sea. It was quite busy but staff were friendly and allowed our small dog inside.It could do with a complete facelift but the food was of a very good standard and I would go there again.

I had the poached cod, potatoes and veg dinner. It was plentiful and exactly what I had hoped for, cooked they way I liked it! My dessert was a pudding made from blackberries and tart cherries with custard on top…delicious!!! Friendly efficient staff and reasonable pricing! Me, my mom and my sister also had our breakfast here before heading to the Irish Ferry port, it was very good and included everything you wanted in a full breakfast!

We visited the restaurant at this hotel and found it to be reasonable with good service. Great for anyone looking for a family style place to eat while in Holyhead!

Staying in Holyhead to catch an early ferry so we didn't do much research on where to eat. Everywhere was closed (Sunday night so not really surprising) and spotted this when we were at the harbour (not ferry!). It's all a bit retro but in a good way, it's not corporate. It's cosy and clean and hasn't been decorated to within an inch of its' life. Very comfortable and relaxing, a fellow diner had his dog with him. Food was plentiful, we had poached fish which was excellent.

On leaving Holyhead railways station for our B&B we thought, what a dump!. Our hosts at the Monrovan recommended this for an evening meal. It's in a nice setting above the harbour (note, not the ferry port), the staff were friendly and the food was fine.

The food was very bad, the potatoes were tastings old and the rest of the dish was tasting like freezed food! But the place is nice And the staffs are kind!

The welcome was fab, the room very comfy. As usual kettle lead didn't reach the plug, as with so many B and B' s! The most disappointing thing was the food. There was an advertisement for Friday night Fish and Chips for £12.95, as we could see the bay we thought well it's pricey but obviously fresh fish from the local area. Oh dear how wrong we were, it came and was obvious it was all frozen and not fresh! The batter was flat, chewy and orange! The chips were underdone, the garden peas were very average (all obviously from frozen) . The best bit was the tartar sauce. At £25.90 for two it was over priced and less than average. Don't eat here. The rooms are great and the staff lovely but the food really lets it down.

Han't been here for a meal in quite a few years but after speaking to a friend decided to have an evening meal out with my son and it didn't disappoint :) hearty portions, lovely setting, pleasant staff, will definitely make a return there.

Tucked away from the port on Newry Beach and a warm welcome from everyone. Good menu and specials board with ample portions of food. Well worth a visit.

This was our second visit to The Boathouse & it was even better than we remembered. What more could you want after a day's walking than having a delicious meal of locally caught Lobster salad & a bottle of very reasonably priced bottle of fizz, overlooking the harbour ? BLISS!

It's a wonderful place to stay, with the ferry close by. Stunning views over the water. Staff are very friendly, professional and helpful. The food was delicious, only complaint was the portion sizes were massive, one meal could have feed the 3 of us.The room was spotless, and beds comfortable. Breakfast was also a feast. Thank you Boathouse for everything.

We ate here on a sat evening place was pretty full as is always as we have been before for food ,There is always a great choice on the specials board down to whole lobster if you wish also a good range of sweets,Staff are most welcoming and helpful at all times.Will definatly visit again & recommend to give it a try.

We stayed here one night and it was perfect. Nothing fancy but comfy, clean and the best staff ever. Food was quite good as well and yummy Mint chocolate chip ice cream

We loved our food at the restaurant, anyone that's ever eaten food at a small coastal town will feel right at home with the menu and friendly staff. Many of the staff grew up in Holyhead and had good points of interest to check out or bits of knowledge.The food was excellent, the Fish and Chips were delicious, and the bar was a fun spot to hang out and have a few pints. If you're looking for a place to eat that has some beautiful views of the breakwater then checkout the Boathouse Hotel.

Clean area. Good food and pleasant place to relax and eat. Can't see a lot of activity on waterfront, but enjoyed our experience. People friendly. Cost ok

I was very surprised when we asked if our beagle could come in with us for lunch and they said yes, no problem! We even sat in the orangery, overlooking the marina. Great view. Great service, very good food, large portions so no need to go out for tea/dinner later! The decor is a little dated and their views on sharing their wifi password a bit old fashioned (you have to be a hotel guest), but apart from that, we would go again.

Loved this great hotel,the room was small but tastefully decorated,with tea and coffee facilities,bed comfy.we had our dog with us and were made to feel very welcome,the dog was allowed in the bar and the conservatory,the food was lovely plenty of choice from snacks to tasty meals ĺots of choices of deserts to,fancy ice creams to crumble and sponge and custard.the service was great and though it was very busy,it was quick and nothing was too much trouble for them.situated right next to the harbour and newry beach,five minute walk to the town centre,it was ideal for us,only problem was the weather but nothing can be done about that.will defifately stay here again,preferably when the weather gets warmer.

Absolutely great food not to expensive despite wat people say on here people have wages and bills to pay if you want a freebie go to the local food bank if you quality and value for money come to the boathouse hotel and the staff are great to very accommodating

I used to visit here very often for meals with my family. Always good service, food is always lovely, never had a problem here & we have been a few times so that says something! Cannot fault the place. Deffo recommend here to anyone!

Recently visited Anglesey and the guest house owner recommend this location for a spot of lunch Very welcoming and lovely location by the marina with super views! Nice and quiet and staff friendly and polite! Myself and partner had a bite to eat from the lunchtime menu great value and quality and portion size super, they promoted a fantastic valentines meal package but we were that full we didn't book but for future reference we will return!

Great food day and evening and great staff on the bar and waiting on very friendly atmosphere and the music played is very taste full new years Eve was absolutely fantastic entertainment was very good and the food outstanding

went here after looking at reviews on TripAdvisor, must say i was a bit disappointed i could not fault the service, very friendly, but the food was not great, i had chicken which was dry, thought it was a bit expensive

I have stayed on many occasions. The food is always very good. From breakfast to Sunday lunch to evening meals. Alway very tasty food.

Sunday Roast was the best on the Island we have had in a veryl ong time, portions are superb, hot, tasty, choice of roast meats, and all at a good price.

Both my wife and I frequently visit this Hotel. We live locally therefore it is very convenient. The food is always excellent with large portion sizes. The specials board has a good selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. Staff are always courteous and pleasant and it's in a great location.

We arrived in Anglesey on Friday 4th Sept for Mum's 80th birthday weekend and saw the sign for this restaurant and headed down...and what a joy it was!From walking in we were greeted warmly by the staff who remained attentive throughout our visit. They were chatty and friendly and made us feel very comfortable. They made excellent food recommendations which we followed and weren't disappointed. All our meals were excellent and we couldn't fault the food at all - the quality was superb and very good value. It was a great start to the weekend and my thanks go out to the staff for providing us with a great night!!We will definitely be back - hopefully when the sun is out to enjoy the decking!!

Had early evening meal, from six , very good selection and large specials board, something for all including a childrens menu. Had poached cod , was cooked perfectly, my wife had a large and excellent veg lasagne, daughter had lightly battered cod and chips and could not eat all, grandson had scampi and grandaughter had steak pie, again large portions of good quality food cooked perfectly,very good service from friendly attentive staff. Eat or drink inside or in conservatory or outside, good position overlooking marina. Ideal place to stay if coming or going on ferry . Only complaint was no wifi, only available to residents.

Il paese non offre molte alternative. Il posto è carino posizionato proprio di fronte al porto. All'interno è arredato molto semplicemente con tavoli piuttosto piccoli. Il menù è molto vario arricchito da piatti presenti sulla lavagna. Il cibo è di un buon livello, le dosi importanti, il servizio abbastanza sbrigativo. Tenete presente che chiude alle 20.30.

If you are in the area look up the boathouse, the next time we use the ferry we will stay here the food was great and a very warm welcome and the service was very warm, fish and chips brilliant

We had battered cod and sirlion followed by Belgian chocolate pudding.The cod was perfect in ever way.. whilst the sirloin was bog standard pub grub, a bit bland.Service and location excellent.Pudding excellent.

Service with a smile. Staff always checking if everything is alright. Best cod and chips, first night, I've had . Tried Swiss chicken second night. Very happy with it. Poached cod, first night for my wife. Very nice. Gammon and pineapple, second night. Very good and couldn't eat it all. Overall four very good meals and two contented customers. Price very reasonable. Definitely go here again when in Holyhead. This place is situated at the far end of sea front past the marina. It is well worth the walk.
