Great little pub just a 10 minute walk from home , always a friendly welcome from the staff and decent prices for the drinks

Never been here for years decided to pop in give it a try. Was only a handful of people in was and found it cold inside, we had one drink and left. Maybe we will try it again.

Decent little bar allows dogs an decent prices

It's an interesting pub with a bit of history - the building used to be a school. There was no food available when we were there. It seems to be a locals hangout rather than a place where you drop in, but I may be wrong there.

First time here, I had a beautiful hot beef baguette & roasties, beef was very tender & ample, roasties were lovely & proper beef gravy, my friend had chicken dinner, plenty veg, very fresh, lovely girls & very fast service, will definitely return. Dog friendly & the girls fed him pork & beef, one hapoy boy.

Quite possibly the worst Sunday lunch I've ever had. Lumpy mash, microwaved veg, ready made Yorkshire puddings. However the 2 tiny slices of lamb were okish. Definitely wouldn't order again 😕.

Just popped in for the 1st time today to try their Sunday lunch. I went for the beef baguette and it was delicious. The gravy was out of this world. All of the staff were absolutely lovely. Will definitely return.

Great bar, great beer. Nice sitting area out the back. It was a lovely sunny afternoon I popped in - nice to have a table outside. Staff friendly, welcoming.

I asked for a pint of strongbow, but got lager instead. Ordered a meal of curry, rice and chips. The curry was a microwave meal from a supermarket. The rice was also store bought. The chips were oven chips, probably from a store. At £8.50 for the meal i expected the curry to be made from scratch with proper chicken breast and the chips to be proper fried chips. Will never visit this pub again. Avoid at all costs.

Really good food and nice place for quiet drinks

Had first Sunday lunch delivered from Blue Bell yesterday after they came highly recommended. It was absolutely scrumptious, man size portions which my husband loved. Definitely won’t be cooking Sunday lunch again. Thanks all involved.

Absolute farce. Waited 1h 30mins for food. Got told they forgot about us. Offered a free desert we were a family of 5. Food came out poor. Cold mash and turnip. Then when we asked for the desert they said only 1 out of the 5 was for free. Worst service I’ve ever encountered !!!!!!

Had food & drink on Christmas Eve. My husband had gammon, fried egg, home made chips & peas. He said everything was lovely. I had salt & chilli chicken, in a warm crispy bagette with fries and a dip. It was delicious. This is a friendly pub & the food is always tasty, been several times for food.

Called in for Sunday dinner, even though less than 5 mins to cut off time for dinner. The staff were great and delivered delicious fresh food. Massive Yorkshires and good variety of veggies. Much recommended

Absolutely appalled at this venue. It was booked following a funeral and for a buffet, on arrival we found the place locked and in darkness. My elderly mother in law who was the widow and in frail health was stood outside in the cold and damp and upset and apologetic although this was not her fault. Shameful

I certainly wouldn't recommend booking here, we had a booking on 16/11/21 following a family funeral, on arrival we found the pub locked and blinds closed. Eventually someone opened the doors and claimed nothing was in the diary for that day even though a buffet was to have been provided. My 88 iyear old mother in law was waiting outside in the cold extremely distressed. Not good enough on a very emotional day

Went to a family funeral yesterday was asked to go back to the blue bell which had been pre arranged when we got there it was closed and the deceased wife who is an old lady and all themourners were standing in the car park so we drive to the George Washington hotel where they kindly opened the bar and made food and tea and coffee so well done George Washington thank you.

Never got the chance to try the place. Supposed to be at a wake there but they forgot to open so all funeral cars had to go somewhere else

Booked for my dads wake,when arrived after funeral, it was closed,had booked it to cater for 25 people arrived in funeral cars, no answer the distress this has caused to my mam and family has been devastating

Visited the other day at lunchtime with a pal to have a catch up. It’s been a while since I was at the Blue Bell. Certainly pre-Covid. In that time the whole place has been refurbished and decorated. A new eating area outside with pergola & tables looks really good, although we sat indoors. The young lady behind the bar was welcoming and friendly. A good range of drinks - alcoholic & non-alcoholic were available. Everywhere was clean and tidy and hand gel was available in several places. They’re clearly aware of visitors covid concerns. 👍🏻 It’s good to see a proper ‘pub’ that isn’t a characterless chain pub. Definitely a good place to call into for a good pint and friendly staff.

5 family members visited here for my wife's birthday, drinks were fine BUT the food was shocking, beef baguette NOT in a baguette, it came with skinny frozen chips, the kind you give kids with kiddies meals, my wife tried to cut 1 and it pinged off the plate it was that hard , chicken tikka massala had 3 or 4 pieces of chicken, rice was clumped together and the so called home made chips were cooked within an inch of there life, they actually snapped in half with a crunch and nothing inside I had fish and chips, the same WELL overcooked chips, absolutely shocking how food like that could even leave the kitchen, I insisted on a full refund on the food and we left, I WON'T BE COMING BACK, there's better places out there to buy food from

I met 2 ex work colleagues, it was the first time we saw each other since Covid started in 2020 it was good to see each other . One of our party is still working so it was good to good to have a catch up to find out gossip. It was my idea to go to The Blue Bell it was a nice atmosphere we sat outside then went inside the waiting staff were very good. We would definitely go there again.

Visited Sunday 18/04/21 at 1300hrs We booked a table outside for Sunday lunch and we were greeted by a member of staff outside the front door who showed us our table We ordered drinks and food together. The drinks came quickly and the food about 15-20 minutes later. The menu was limited to Sunday lunch but we were able to order a hot beef sandwiches with fries which was delicious. The beef was slow cooked and soft with a fresh baguette. There was a generous pot of gravy for each meal along with fries. The food was served in a takeaway container which was expected due to COVID and allowed us to take some home for later. The food was reasonably priced but the drinks were a little expensive for basic pints of strongbow and moretti

Beautiful dinner, lots of very nice veg, meat was cooked to perfection. Its our first time, for the delivery, we eat late, so 3pm was perfect for us,we will be doing this again

Aways professional and welcoming. It's spotlessly clean and social distancing well managed. So much so it's the only Bar I actually feel safe and comfortable in. Thank you. 👍

My husband and I visited the Bluebell for a lunch. Pub is lovely and did everything to meet covid 19 guidelines. Staff very friendly and welcoming. We waited about 35 minutes for our meal. But unfortunately was very disappointing. My husbands was okay. But I could not get a knife through the dumpling on my plate.I did tell the young lad who served us. We will try it again at some point as I realise how difficult these times are. But nice clean friendly pub.

I visited this local pub one new year day and I had our whole order refunded as each item come over 20 minutes apart. We all ate at different times and the food wasnt what was orders chips instead of seasoned fries. 2 tomatoes instead of a salad. We were there 3 hours and then got the whole meal refunded. Today I have gave them benefit of the doubt and tried it again however we waited 55 minutes for potato skins. They were nevertheless lovely, we got hot beef baguette which was awful sorry to say. Beef was as dry as sticks and the baguette reminded me of school dinners rubbery plastic bread. The fries were also oven chips, awful terrible food and the wait just made it worse, we were the first in to order also. Lovely staff cant fault them.

Called here for lunch and have to say was very impressed. Lovely, welcoming, clean establishment. Decided to have a starter to share so we ordered potato skins with garlic dip. Lovely and crispy. Then had beer battered fish and home made chips. Food arrived lovely and hot and we chose the 'light bite'. So pleased we did as the portion was very generous to say the least. Our servers Emma and Lisa were very friendly , helpful and courteous without being pushy. Will definitely be returning and trying some of the other dishes on offer.

Called here on our way back from a busy morning shopping at the "Gallery's". We've past here a few times on the bus and this time we made a spur of the moment decision to call in. We arrive just as the Pub was opening (Noon) and where a little concerned that they may not be ready to do meals, however, the young lady behind the bar said this wasn't problem. We decided to have a drink and peruse the menu before ordering. When we finally decide to order the Other Half went for the Beef Yorkie whilst I went for the Chicken Parmo. Both meals arrived piping hot obviously having been made to order and we can both state they where absolutely delicious. The Other Half struggled to finish the Yorkshire pub which would have probably fed a family of 4. All in all a very good bite to eat and definitely a "Hidden Gem" amongst the hustle and bustle of Tyneside/Wearside. We will RETURN

Had one of those days and wanted some yummy no nonsense grub. Had a chat with the owner the a few days back about the food over the nicest pint in Washington. So thought why not. Me and the missus ordered beer battered fish with home made chips. And omg it was amazing. Really hit the spot. Fish was fresh and tasty. Batter was thin and crispy. And chips were beautiful. All washed down with an amazing pint. All in all a great experience, I would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

Definitely one of the best pubs in Washington!! This pub has something for everyone. Warm friendly atmosphere every time and the staff are very welcoming. Never a dull Saturday night here with all the many bands/ singers playing different genres of live music. The food is delicious and the menu caters to all types of food lovers with a great choice for kids too! Would highly recommend a visit too the Blue Bell in Usworth 😊

Went for Sunday lunch and it was the worst dinner i have eating, it was lukewarm the mash potatoes were cold in the middle and the Yorkshire pudding was so rubbery, the beef was ok but nothing to right home about. Will definitely not be going back
