Small pub that does meals, gets packed with drinkers, Very noisy, not relaxing if your having a meal . Food wasn't good, hardly any fish in the batter.

Went for Sunday dinner expensive for what it was beef Tough, roast potatoes dry, not much taste , had better in my local pub for half the price

Los fish &chips pedidos... tardaron bastante en llegar... 5 patatas fritas cortadas gruesas (no crujientes) . . . . pescado era principalmente rebozado. . . guisantes mushy ok. . . Un pensamiento. . . sólo dice "pescado". . . no bacalao o eglefino. . . . creo que era bacaladilla? ? . . . insípido, y no mucho dentro de la masa! Decepcionante...

Un pub que siempre espero visitar en cualquier viaje al maravilloso barrio georgiano de Liverpool es The Blackburne Gastropub, que ha estado aquí antes en muchas ocasiones, siempre lo pasó bien y así lo demostró en nuestra última visita a aquí. El pub se ve magnífico, el interior es muy tradicional, ladrillos a la vista, un bar de madera maciza, decoración y mobiliario del pub y un montón de opciones de asientos repartidos por todo este pub tanto dentro como fuera con vistas a las concurridas y bulliciosas calles que componen esta zona del barrio georgiano. Estábamos aquí en un enero amargamente frío temprano por la tarde, pedimos una cerveza pálida cada uno, estos se sirven en condiciones prístinas, nos relajamos, calentamos y planeamos el día siguiente mientras bebíamos nuestra cerveza pálida. Mi cerveza pale ale estaba muy buena, una cerveza pale dorada, lúpulo, toques de caramelo, un delicioso aroma y regusto con un acabado suave, una cerveza pale ale clásica británica servida en un pub clásico británico, no es sorprendente que este pub sea tan popular entre las cervezas reales de esta calidad. Ambos disfrutamos mucho de nuestra cerveza pale ale aquí antes de seguir adelante y aunque nuestra visita fue solo fugaz como en cualquier otra visita a The Blackburne Gastropub tuvimos una agradable experiencia de cerveza. El Blackburne Gastropub es fácil de localizar a lo largo de Catherine Street. El horario de apertura es; Lunes a sábado abierto de 10 am. Domingo, abierto desde mediodía. Vale la pena comprobar si estás en el barrio georgiano de Liverpool.

I only ate in the restaurant - was pretty mediocre and service was slow/poor. Won't go back

Absolutely amazing food and atmosphere! Great staff who made you feel at home and took time to come and talk to you! Stayed at the hotel there also and was lovely room comfy bed and just felt homely

I've been coming here for many years and it's a really nice little pub. As you go through the front door to the right is the dining area and the left side is purely for those who are just having a pint. Bar staff are always knowledgeable and helpful in picking the best real ales and beers. We tend to come here during the day when it's not too busy. It does get packed at the weekends. Haven't eaten here for a few years so will have to return to do an update on the food.

Went for a Xmas meal, veg was nice, turkey however was rock hard and dry to point you could of used as a weapons:(

No puedo culpar al pub, es excepcional, el personal es profesional, amable y muy acogedor. Llegamos el sábado por la tarde y nos encontramos con una señora encantadora de cabello oscuro. Estábamos alojados en el hotel y ella rápidamente ordenó la llave de nuestra habitación y nos preparó una mesa para el almuerzo. La habitación inicialmente parecía estar bien, pero en una inspección más de cerca el asiento del inodoro estaba colgando. Volvimos al pub y se lo mencionamos a la señora con la que nos habíamos registrado. Inmediatamente nos ofreció otra habitación y trasladamos nuestras pertenencias. Tuvimos un almuerzo ligero en el pub que era excelente, tuvimos un sándwich y un poco de sopa, muy sabroso. El personal estaba bien informado sobre el menú y el vino. Estábamos cenando más tarde antes de asistir a un concierto en la Catedral. Al regresar a nuestra habitación recién asignada, descubrimos aquí un montón de problemas. El asiento del inodoro estaba sujeto pero no seguro y se movió tan pronto como se sentó. Las camas estaban colocadas a un metro de la pared, sin cabecera, lo que parecía extraño. Tras una inspección más minuciosa, la pared detrás de las camas estaba agrietada y el agua se había filtrado a través de las ventanas y por la pared. Los marcos de las ventanas estaban cerrados con pegamento y tenían enormes áreas de madera podrida que se habían llenado con relleno. Había enormes lagunas y una corriente de aire masiva desde las ventanas que realmente necesitaba ser reemplazada por razones de salud y seguridad. Las áreas de la pared cerca de los tapones eran de yeso desnudo. La luz del techo estaba suelta y tenía un área grande que necesitaba pintura. El piso del baño no había sido limpiado. Los grifos del fregadero estaban sueltos, básicamente necesitaba algo de TLC. Nos sorprendió y decepcionó la falta de cuidado y atención al detalle en la habitación. Solo nos alojamos por una noche, pero era un contraste con el pub bien dirigido. También nos decepcionó mucho saber a las 11 de la noche del sábado que el pub no ofrecía desayuno un domingo por la mañana a sus huéspedes del hotel. Explicaron que esto se debía a que estaban muy ocupados con los almuerzos del domingo a partir de las 12 pm. En ninguna parte del sitio web mencionó esto, ya que ciertamente me habría impedido reservar. No hay información en la habitación con respecto a wifi, check out, números de contacto, desayuno. Definitivamente recomiendo el pub y el personal fabuloso, las habitaciones del 'Hotel' son una vergüenza absoluta, una pena ya que un poco de TLC podría hacerlas fabulosas.

Food was excellent service good although a but slower than usual but was very busy to be fair. Bit of a trek from central station but worth the walk!! Will be back again soon x

Comimos aquí antes de un concierto. Tenían una oferta para la noche de carne que era de 2 platos y media botella de vino cada uno. El servicio era un poco lento, ya que estaba ocupado, pero la comida valió la pena la espera. Hemos vuelto dos veces desde entonces, ya que la comida era tan buena.

Warm and friendly place, and staff! We were made welcome the moment we set foot inside. The food was wholesome and hot, which made a pleasant change to other pubs etc. A truly Bostin time was had.

Booked for 5.30, as my wife and I were going to the theatre at 7.30. Arrived 10 minutes early, given our table, and order taken at 5.30. Food eventually arrived at 6.35. "Gastro Pub" somewhat misleading. Food extremely ordinary, glorified burger bar with limited choice. Didn't order a dessert for obvious reasons...couldn't afford the 65 minute wait.

Went with family for Sunday lunch. Despite being fully booked, they squeezed us in at 12pm-1.30pm Food was well presented, but the potato’s and parsnip weren’t cooked. Lamb was very fatty and the nut roast tasted like the stuffing with nuts in. I had the nut roast, so ended up with stuffing and some veg as the roasties were inedible. I’m sure if we’d have come on another Sunday it would have been fine. We were charged a service charge which of about £8 on £100 bill. I’d have paid more as the service was quite good, but given that I was forced a service charge, I just left them what they insisted on taking and no more. Bottom line(s): cook your food fully before serving it, even if it means we wait. Get over yourself with the US style service charge. You’re a pub in the UK.

Great pub with loads of charm and character. Fabulous, welcoming staff. Very good selection of drinks and food. Just as importantly, the customers were really friendly. I only recently discovered this place and am already looking forward to taking friends there!

Did not spend the night, but enjoyed and sampled some food from the pub. Chicken starter is not a best seller, but all in all quite good. Service was grand. We said we only had an hour, and the staff delivered in time. Would come again and will be excited to sample the whole menu.

Great atmosphere lovely bar / restaurant and very busy but the food not to our liking or presentation. The lamb was just a mound of fat and although the beef was tasty for me not easy to cut had gravy all over my clothes and hands attempting to cut a steak knife would have been perfect with the thickness of the beef. if you love food drowned in gravy ideal but not for me and the plates too small for the serving. To top it off although I always leave a tip I believe the service charge was discretionary but it got charged to my card without being asked that's more of a comment than any negative although my review on service drops a couple points for this. Pricing good for the whole package and as I say great venue such a shame about our food experience hopefully be better for us next time for us though with the way food is served a Sunday lunch off the menu for our party another day might be more our taste.

La comida más terrible que me han servido, una cena de domingo que era un plato de grasa y verduras duras, devolví mi comida, los otros 4 miembros de nuestro grupo dejaron su comida, así que decepcionante g y arruinó un cumpleaños familiar reunirse. Aunque se retiraron 2 comidas de la factura y el gerente estuvo de acuerdo en que la comida devuelta no era comestible, todavía lamento pagar lo que hice, si no hubiera tenido familiares ancianos conmigo, ¡me habría negado a pagar nada! ¡Nunca más!

Had a lovely family meal here, good food and friendly staff

I had a birthday meal with my family on a Sunday. However the food was disgusting, raw veg 3 slices of fat described as lamb. The only good thing about the day was a staff member called Duncan who is a credit to your business. Sad really as this place has always been recognised as a great place to eat 😕

Worst Chicken burger I have ever had. The burger coating was sweet, the bun was sweet and the bacon was sweet. Disappointed that this place was so hot and miss

Lovely pub with a quiet atmosphere. Set in a beautiful part of town. Fish and chips were tasty. Staff very friendly. Will definitely return as pre theatre menu looks reasonable.

Went for a roast and the food was incredible. Service was also very good. Couldn't complain about anything. Went with a baby and the staff where great with him :)

Fantastic roast dinner, great service

Visited lunchtime as soon as we walked in we were made very welcome by the staff Will and Emily. Both were very friendly and helpfull. Pub had a great selection of beers ciders and other drinks. Food came quickly was warm and well presented. We had the double cheese burger nice patties and plenty of lovely melted cheese on top in a nice bun. Plenty of well cooked chips. Good sized portion. Also Prawn Linguine lovely sauce and plenty of prawns. Been meaning to try this venue for years. We will be back.

Been really looking forward to this after reading so many rave reviews - however, the roast was really disappointing. Both opted for beef (pink) - it wasn’t pink but it’s difficult to achieve pink when it’s 90% fat. Really low quality meat, same with the pigs in blankets, very fatty and poor quality. We ordered a side of cauliflower cheese which was the strangest cauliflower cheese I’ve ever had, soooo watery??? The vegetables, Yorkshire, potatoes and gravy were ok and we had rhubarb crumble and custard after which was nice. Not sure we’ll be returning to be honest.

Can not fault this place at all. Me and my wife both got roast dinners lamb and chicken both amazing. Hands down liverpools best roast. Staff are what make this place so friendly and nice. Can’t wait to come back

We went to the Blackburne Arms after reading such good reviews about their roast dinners . Sadly we did not have such a good experience! Front of house service was prompt though, drinks and order sorted within 5 mins. 2 beef roasts took 40 mins to arrive. First impressions were very good, roast spuds, veg and gravy were lovely. However, the meat was appalling. It was 90% fat and gristle. You needed the skill of a brain surgeon to work your way through it and pick out the small parts that were edible. The waitress came around and asked if everything was okay. When I told her the problem her answer was ‘sore about that, I’ll tel the chef. Have you managed to have a bit! I informed her ‘yes, we have managed to have A BIT’. Other diners were also complaining about the quality of the meat albeit our complaints were falling on deaf ears. You cannot make a good roast with cheap meat. Lesson learnt! £17 for a plate of veg and a Yorkshire pud! Lesson learnt not to return!

I first went to the Blackburn arms on Easter Sunday (31st March) and the roast dinner was spot on but on todays visit it appears that standards have dropped. Ordered two roast dinners, one beef and one lamb. After waiting the best part of an hour ie 50 mins they arrived. beef was fatty, potatoes seemed earthy and under cooked. Lamb wasn’t too bad. I also ordered a side of stuffing balls (two in total) which were rock hard and dry. I’m not one to write a negative review but I can honestly say that the Blackburn doesn’t live up to as advertised and I quote “Best roasts in Liverpool” ! Disappointed and won’t return!

Had Sunday dinner today, the beef was tough and chewy. We left a fair bit but we're not asked about how our dinner was....I hope this is a one off, all previous visits have been very good

I have eaten in the Blackburne Catherine Street for a very long time . Always had an excellent meal, service and staff are brilliant. Today celebrating a family birthday we choose the Sunday lunch much to our disappointment. Not everyone ordered a starter. Main meal contained cold uncooked vegetables, roast potatoes were precooked and re heated. My chicken was hard. Desserts only 2 were ordered , sticky toffee pudding was hard on the outside soft in the middle. I would not recommend the Eaton Mess total rip if for £8.50. Sorry I could not believe what was served today

Another nice old fashioned pub, close to university nice relaxed atmosphere good service, was a regular here in the 80s prices a bit steep these days same with most pubs in this area

Went today for Sunday roast.lovely pub.food not amazing. Veg barely cooked.think it was popped in hot water few seconds.spuds undercooked as well had to scrape them out the skin.meat was OK.would not recommended eating a roast there unless your teeth can manage rock hard veg.came home starving.

Food was ok but we waited a long time to be served, and the staff were rude, especially the maitre'd who tried to add extra charges to our bill, which I noticed luckily and had them removed.. won't be going again :(

This is a review of Allerton Rd NOT Catherine St. Catherine St is excellent! Allerton Rd, however, isn’t!! Had to ask for menu and wine list - staff seemed very disinterested. Very poor Roast dinner. Burnt potatoes, soggy veg and fatty meat. Definitely won’t be back!

Had a great pre concert dinner here this week. Outstanding service great menu and food on offer & the pre theatre offer was very reasonable with good portions and quality food. Thus is a pub/ hotel . They are dog friendly but do wish they would not allow dogs in the carpeted area were people eat

It's good to see a reasonably limited menu. I calling in for lunch and went for a sandwich and soup for £9. It was great value and the quality was top!!!!! I'm glad I had dessert. The sticky toffee pudding was superb. The pub it's self is well decerayed and the bar staff very friendly with great service. This place is a gem.

We were shown to our room at the side of the pub,via a separate entrance by a person working in the bar, and were given a key so we could let ourselves in after the concert. The room was pleasant and clean. The location was perfect. Just around the corner from the Philamonic Hall where the concert was held. We had food in the gastropub pub which was delicious. All the staff I the pub were friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed our stay.

Only visited the pub. Really nice pub, good food, ok prices. Close enough to the city centre so you can walk up there, far enough to avoid all the noise from the central areas.

Excellent fish and chips!! Shepherd’s pie tastes nice (even though the presentation wasn’t the best) Worth the visit. I’m pretending to come back for further visits!

Absolutely shocking accomodation, the only saving grace was that the bed was comfy. The free WiFi never worked. The TV had no signal. The shower was broken. The window never stayed open, so had to use a glass. There was a loud buzzing all night. The tap was all lose and had the danger of falling off. Not a good experience.

Pre-theatre meal with friends, so this was near to where we needed to be. Having walked past on previous occasions, we decided to give the Blackburn Arms a go. We weren't disappointed. There was an excellent range of drinks available and the food was too. I had the Rib-eye steak done rare and it was the best I'd had for a while, Most places will give you medium rare when you ask for rare, but they got it right here! Service was excellent; friendly and quick, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. It helped that the weather was playing nice, too. Would go again.

A charming pub in Liverpool! We stumbled across this pub exploring the city and were so glad we did. The service was great (granted we were the only ones in there in an off time on a weekday). The food was delicious - steak and cheese sandwich, shrimp, and fries. The space itself is beautiful with the unique furniture and all the plants!

Great place to stay at a really reasonable rate. The windows are old and thin, so the outside noise can be heard. I'd recommend taking earplugs along.

I travelled from Dublin to watch Liverpool vs Brighton recently and stayed in the hotel. The room was well priced, location is good and the room was comfortable. Prior to my arrival, I was in touch with the Blackburne Arms on three different occasions to make sure there would be no problem with a late checkin. I even called on the morning I was travelling. I was assured on each occasion that there would be no issue as long as I arrived before 12am when the pub closes. My flight landed at 10.30pm and I arrived to the hotel shortly after 11pm. To my dismay, I found that everything was locked up and staff had gone home. I had no way of getting into my room and even faced the prospect of having to find somewhere else to stay at very short notice which is next to impossible on match weekends and especially so late at night. I spent around 30 minutes trying to call the premises by phone, but got no answer. I was even knocking on the doors of the other guests to ask if they had contact details for management. Out of desperation, I sent a message to the pub on Facebook messenger hoping it would ping on someones phone. Luckily enough it did and to be fair, a staff member came back to let us in soon after. We received an apology from the staff and management for the situation we found oursleves in. For a good 40 minutes, we feared the worst and it wasn't a pleasant experience to say the least. I only give truthful and honest reviews. I would like to give a better rating because the staff and management do seem to be very decent people, but I can only give a rating based on my experience. Therefore, I have given it a very generous 2 stars

First time visit to Liverpool and therefore to the Blackburne Arms. First time I’ve had a pint jug in as long as I can remember, and filled with superb draft Black Sheep Ale. Two of us had the beef and I had the lamb accompanied by their much admired cauliflower cheese. A great gastro pub with good service and humming atmosphere. Lovely!

The Sunday roast here are out of this world. I had the lamb and it was cooked perfectly and the portion sizes are very generous. Fantastic staff very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend a visit here. Simply good food, good people and good atmosphere

My friends and I were undertaking an architectural walk around Liverpool and opted to stop for lunch at the Blackburne Gastro Pub in Catherine Street. Stephen (Manager) and his wife were extremely friendly, attentive and helpful. The menu had so much choice that we all ate different meals and they were delicious and plentiful. Definitely a place to revisit and we shall be calling in at every opportunity. A lovely Liverpool pub and restaurant. Highly recommended.

The pub itself is lovely atmosphere , parking a bit of a nightmare Staff lovely However we arrived a little early and we were a party of 9 the other party at our table hadn’t finished So we waited a few minutes they moved us to a larger table which was ok Then a few of the guests kept getting this awful smell we couldn’t make our were it was coming from So we ordered food and asked the staff member what the smell was she said she couldn’t smell anything Food arrived a few in the party vegetables cold , so food taken away and returned warmer but Yorkshire pudding tasted burnt Potatoes a bit burnt but gravy covered them Meal was ok Quite expensive for what it was !!! But this smell kept returning which was rather off putting We ordered pudding sticky toffee pudding 5 of us ordered this and this had a really burnt after taste in the mouth Told member of staff said no one else had said anything , so thought we’ll maybe that the way it’s meant to be The smell kept returning then we new were it was coming from Mens Toilet every so often when door opened it we got a waft I’m our opinion table shouldn’t be by toilets So food was average staff lovely atmosphere great would not eat there again So sorry Blackburn arms it’s a no from myself and my family

Visited the Blackburne last weekend for the 1st time in 6 years (I’ve moved away from the city). So glad I called in. The restaurant was busy when we arrived at 8 (without booking) and were told an hour wait on food but given a table straight away. Drinks order taken & delivered promptly- food order was taken some 10mins later. All in, 30 mins from seating we had finished our starters. Mains came soon after, so instead of an hour wait we had eaten in that time. The atmosphere was lively & the aroma of food delightful. All helped that the beer was still as good as ever. The place was always a little gem but what Stephen, Lina & their team have done to the place is exceptional. It’s the best it’s ever been & the quality for price you won’t find anywhere in Liverpool! Ps. The fried cauliflower with curry starter is amazing! It won’t be 6 years til our next visit, that’s for sure!

Didn't stay here but had a meal and it was great, service was great and staff where very helpful, but wasn't happy with almost sitting in the doorway, did ask to be moved but other tables were booked, but to be fair they did come and ask if we wanted to move over into another area which by this time was to late

The food was stunning as always. I had the pork belly which was exceptional. The other 2 people in my party had burgers which were delicious. We have been here for Sunday lunch before which again was delicious. I would recommend this pub. It is ideally situated near the University. It is a favourite place to go for lunch when we have dropped our daughter back at uni, before travelling back home.

Nice spot for a drink, however my one issue was that this is labelled as a dog friendly pub and whilst, yes, okay, it technically is, the barman informed me upon entry that dogs weren’t allowed on the carpeted area. Now whilst I understand this is, on the face of it, a fairly reasonable request (that is their decision, of course, they can make decide any rules they want) I’m not entirely sure you could necessarily call it dog friendly in the strictest sense, as this then means you’re resigned to a table by the toilets, a table right by the door, or two huge tables. Was planning to eat here too but it didn’t seem a particularly comfortable place to enjoy the admittedly great sounding food I’d journeyed here for. And what to do if it was busy? Go somewhere else? Have other people been here with dogs? On the carpeted area? And I do wonder If I’d have booked in advance for lunch and brought a dog would we still have been confined to the same area? It was a Monday after all, and service always typically slumps on a Monday. Never mind. You’re spoilt for choice for dog friendly pubs in Liverpool and I’m sure this place is the height of customer service at peak times, dog or no dog, so it only meant I got my steps in and good luck to them, it’s a cute place if you haven’t got a dog and fancy some lunch on a quiet day. Attended with a big group of family for Sunday roast - absolutely delicious and good veggie option for my veggie sisters. I have celiac disease and am nervous about eating out - the staff were well trained on allergies and I had no issues so will be back again. Would recommend!

Great local pub! Lad at the bar with penguin jumper (Charles?) was a great bar man and Emily was a lovely hostess. Kept us entertained all night and made us a cracking Baileys Espresso Martini too! Will be visiting again!

Cosy, Charming and Food to die for 👏 You must book ! We were served by Danielle, absolutely bob on. Her and the teams attention is second to none by many establishment standards. Their attention to detail starts with the Pubs carpet. You sink. The food was delicious from start to finish, Ham Hock Fritters were incredulous. The ribeye main dreamy. My god. Then the cherry crumble just an absolute pleasure. Beautiful cosy pub with like minded folks, no loons. True Gastro Indeed.

Been here a few times for roast dinners and breakfast it has never disappointed just had the full English and it’s the best one in Liverpool

Thirteen of us had dinner for my in-laws 60th anniversary. The whole experience was great from start to finish. We had a lovely table, food was great as was the atmosphere. Emily was totally amazing and she not only took the booking etc but really looked after us the whole time we were there. Literally nothing was too much trouble. Emily and her team made us feel special and looked after. I would highly recommend and we will definitely be returning. A big thank you from all of us.

My wife booked the Blackburne for a Sunday Roast on 22nd October. The venue is everything a pub should be - great decor, lovely staff, dog friendly, a good beer selection and fantastic food. The area surrounding the pub is beautiful. I had the venison and beef shine terrine starter, which was extremely tasty. The roast lamb was probably the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, plenty of meat and the accompanying vegetables were divine. The pub is ideally located. We live around 45 minutes from Liverpool but will definitely drive over on a Sunday in the future.
