Nice friendly welcome, nice drinks but both of us had fish and chips. The chips were greasy, fish were small and peas like bullets served on cold plates. We didn't enjoy the food at all and won't be back to eat. Ok for a drink but that's it.

After stopping at a few places on the way back from from a trip to Holy Island and being told, sorry no capacity fully booked. We called The Black Swan and the staff made an effort to get us a table. Pub and staff was very friendly, good northern atmosphere inside. Child and pet friendly with great food. Steak pie with black pudding was delicious, both kids had clean plates, the burger was huge, and the Missus paid!! (Must have been reasonable) A great old traditional Pub. Highly recommended

Popped in for a quick lunch. Made to feel it was all too much trouble.

Stopped here for a couple of drinks, had a lovely time with our two dogs. Staff were fantastic, and the dogs mugged them for cuddles, as well as other customers in at the same time.

Below average experience bar food ok but the same as the Blue bell the only other pub open. Drinks well priced. Could have done without all the dogs and flies !

Brilliant pub. Just happened upon it while in Belford for 1 night. There was live music and the crowd was brilliant. 3 hand pulls. Lovely beer and atmosphere. Oh, and very dog friendly. Probably not ideal if you have allergies.

We visited here a couple of times over the weekend, what a canny place, very welcoming by both staff and locals. We didn't have food, although the next time we will as the place was well booked up, the menu and specials sounded good, and certainly the food coming out both lookes and smells nice 😋

Lush family run pub/ small business. The atmosphere is very welcoming, the employees were all chatty, friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, really nice home cooked decent pub food, absolutely massive portions we basically had to roll out the door! 😂

Nice pub, dog friendly and great staff

Some confusion at first about if we were there to eat or not. Eventually got a table and menu about 15 minutes in. Food took a while to arrive but was good. Portion sizes were very large. They are very dog friendly and were lovely to our dog.

We had a lovely time with our family. The table and seating were comfortable for our group of 7. The service was very friendly. The Sunday roasts were all delicious (we ordered the lamb shank, roast beef and ham options) and priced incredibly reasonably, particularly the child portions. Overall a great experience and we strongly recommend!

What a fantastic find, popped up to Northumberland for a week, went to this unknown pub and had a great night. Have never been in a more dog friendly pub, and such nice people. Band were great.

An absolute gem of a pub where we were made to feel incredibly welcome, with great beer and roaring fire to warm against. We'll be back when we are next in the area that's for sure !

We stayed in Belford on holiday. The Black swan is a lovely pub with great food. It's suitable for kids too.

Really lovely pub freshly prepared food and very generous portions staff member who was serving food was fabulous and is a real asset, would definitely visit again.

Whilst on holiday we popped in on Friday evening and was very impressed, the pub was very busy and friendly with a great atmosphere. The choice of beer was very good, tasty and well kept. We returned on Sunday as we had enjoyed our previous visit. We were looking to eat here on Monday evening, unfortunately the pub dog on this visit was very off putting. It kept having a go at the other dogs in the pub including ours, it also wouldn't stop barking, the bar staff were not that bothered and made half hearted attempts to control the dog. A local finally put it on a lead and we were able to finish our drinks in peace. My daughter who hadn't been with us on Friday didn't want to eat in the pub with such an annoying dog around. To be honest I couldn't blame her. We left disappointed and found an alternative pub for our meal.

The nicer of the two pubs in the village, though in need of a lick of paint. Great service. Basic pub menu but cooked well. Somewhat crowded at the bar with stools.

The pub was very full so we ended up in a back room which was ok. When my partner went to the bar again the girl behind was chatting and had to be told by a customer to serve him.

We had a very pleasant evening meal while we were staying in Belford. Food was tasty and good value. The team serving were lovely and had loads of personality. Thank you

Lamb shank . Came cold had to ask for it warmed up time I got mine husband had finished his burger not a piece of veg or anything £12.95 first and last time be eating here waste of £24.95

Looks a very imposing castle, parts of which emanate from the 1400's, but actually most of it is Victorian

We came in late, got a table for 2 nonetheless, the staff was very welcoming! We ate 2 really tasty main orders, the onion rings as a side where my highlight. We drank the local ale, that also was worth the try. The real reason for the 4 stars is by far the atmosphere in the pub. Within minutes you feel all cosy comfy around all the others costumers, the staff is the star of the show, really. Give them a big, they deserve it, and it goes into charity! Wow!

High quality food- amazing fish and chips - beautifully presented- crispy batter. Staff so welcoming even though we had two medium sized dogs with us. Lovely atmosphere- great music.

Just been in to have a drink after our walk. Real friendly place. Ended up eating steak and ale pie with chips and peas. No frills, just great pub food and great staff - friendly and professional.

Great pub with excellent bear. Lost a star as they don't offer food, despite having a food menu on the wall???? Worth a visit for the beer though.

The food choice was very limited. We booked which was good as very busy. The young waitress was run off her feet. Good for a pub meal.

Friendly service and good basic food.

Whilst waiting for a bus (1hr 20mins) we were both offered 1/2 pint each, then when we decided bus wasn't coming for another hour went in and ordered a pint each. Lovely locals and lovely landlady - when the bus suddenly arrived she raced out to talk to the driver, then, amid great hilarity, found us coffee cups to put our beer into. Oh - and the beer was excellent too 😄 Thoroughly recommended. Fiona & Helen.

Despite serving frozen food this is possibly the best pub in England, Unless you are a cat person in which case you should search for a therapist. 😉 word of warning, if you don't take your dog you may feel left out.

Just want to a huge thanks to the owner at The Black Swan who went out of her way to help us arrange a cab when we were a bit stuck after mis-judging the length of our walk. She couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. While we waited we enjoyed a well-deserved cider whilst chatting away with her. Lovely friendly pub with great atmosphere. Wishing her all the best for the future.

Booked in for Sunday lunch, 4 adults and a large dog. We were looked after really well, staff are brilliant, Sunday lunch was absolutely delicious, can’t knock this place at all!

Friendly village pub with accommodation. We stayed one night on the way to Scotland. Convenient position close to A1 and also Bamburgh castle. Great cooked breakfast.

We are staying in the village for the week, so as always, had to try the local for Sunday lunch. It was the best lunch out we have had in ages! Good choice of meat, we had the chicken, yummy! Also the champion of all, a fabulous gravy, which they gave an extra boat full, and I could have drank it! The staff who looked after us were SO nice and friendly. This pub is a must if you love good food and a good pint. 5 stars we had a great afternoon and will be going back. X
