What a shame the landlord allows such racist people and remarks in the pub. An elderly lady broke a glass. Watch your dog she shouted. Then shouted oh never mind it's just an English dog. That was bad enough but everyone who came in she laughed about it and showed off. Not one member of staff stopped her. We left without eating.

Not as good as it was...new ownership. Sausage and Chorizo Casserole...wouldn't feed it to a starving stray dog, let alone a paying customer

For my birthday my partner bought me one of those vouchers-in-box for places to stay around the UK. I wasn’t bowled over and put it to one side for several months. I wanted to go for a trip on the Cambrian line along Cardigan Bay and looked for a place to stay nearly. The Black Lion was the closest to it (not too many options from this voucher thingy). Booking in this way you'd kind of expect something lost in the 1970s that's struggling to get custom...maybe something akin to Fawlty Towers. How wrong I was! The pub was set in a quaint little village by a small babbling river. It was nice, modern, the staff were friendly, the food VERY tasty and reasonably priced. The room was clean, quiet, comfortable and fine with an en suite bathroom. We had a lovely full English the following morning which set us on our way to Anglesey. Throughly recommend staying here, as well as the Cambria Way ale. Thanks to John and his team for a lovely experience.

We have always had excellent service and food here when we have been before hence why we chose to go today. Unfortunately today’s visit was extremely disappointing firstly our drink order was wrong and when we told the waitress she was very rude and said we were wrong. Secondly we had to wait over an hour for our food the restaurant was very quiet one of our food orders was wrong. It was obvious the first waitress was unhappy we complained about our drinks as she proceeded to slam our drinks down and was generally miserable and rude. Am wondering if there are new owners as the service was dreadful will not be returning.

Food was lovely but had to wait an hour. Restaurant was not busy. Appears to be new staff as when corrected when they miss heard or got order incorrect then proceeded to bang drinks on table. Smiles were non existent to us and other members of the public. Shame as many previous visits here have been worth the journey. Have noticed the ratings have declined which is a shame.

Food was poor and took such a long time! We did go the week before but we’d had burgers which were lovely. Today we ordered pate and garlic bread to start. These were good! Toast could have been a little thicker. GB cheese lovely! Took around 30-40 minutes to arrive though. Main course! 😠 we had a Beef roast and a chicken roast! £14:95 each. The whole thing was cold. The beef looked like it was out of a packet. The vegetables were hard and the roast potatoes were so pale might as well have been mash. The plate was swimming in tasteless gravy. So disappointed, we ate what we could for the fear or waiting over an hour and 15 minutes for more food. My son was already starving after waiting to long. His came sausage and mash super tiny portion. The meal gave me real brewers fayre vibes. NOT GOOD AT ALL! We mentioned it to the staff I got a sorry about that. £70+ down the drain! Staff seemed lovely. We won’t be coming back again any time soon.

having dined at black lion many times and found it great it was a huge disappointment that this visit found food and service appalling Bad. When my family of 6 arrived we were warmly greeted by a member of staff and shown to our table. The restaurant was unusually quiet just one or two people sitting at the bar talking to the owner. We ordered our drinks which appeared after approx. 15 minutes and given our menus. We ordered our roast mixed meats and children's food. After a one hour and fifteen minute wait and many questions to the staff who kept disappearing asking where our meals were our food arrived. The children's food came with no chips and no chicken nuggets but fish fingers with potato mash seems restaurant had run out of chicken nuggets. The roast dinners were stone cold, meats were obviously precooked bought in and cold. Gravy was Luke warm and flooded the plates. There was hardly any vegetables and the roast potatoes were cold and greasy and could not be cut with a knife. The precooked bought in belly pork was also impossible to cut with a knife and the beef and chicken cold. We intended to send everything back but we feared another one hour and fifteen minutes wait for food. We ate what we could, chips arrived for the children after 20 minutes as did the extra vegetables. The invisible disorganised staff were completely unconcerned about their lack of service and poor quality food. When i tried to find someone to pay i found them giggling together with the chef in the kitchen. Meanwhile the owner continued chatting with the locals at the bar completely unconcerned about his restaurant customers. After we begrudgingly paid the bill the owner muttered "i heard things weren't right today sorry about that "We left vowing never to return.

Met my lovely friend for a ladies lunch on Tuesday. We were warmly welcomed by John the owner and had a choice of tables but we had booked anyway which is always advisable. We were swiftly served drinks and perused the menu at our own leisure. My lovely friend had the gammon with egg, chips and peas and she declared it delicious and she cleared her plate. I had the steak and ale pie with chips, peas, carrots and cauliflower. The steak was delicious and the gravy was fantastic there was plenty of puff pastry too. The waitress was delightful thank you. We had a lovely time and lunch and look forward to calling again for lunch or dinner. Would highly recommend thank you John & Co

Absolutely appalling service and food visited with family for lunch on arrival we were seated by the log burner which wasn’t giving out much heat the rest of the pub was absolutely freezing especially the toilets. It wasn’t busy at all but we still waited an hour for our food which was disappointing to say the least I had a chicken dinner which should have come with mozzarella mash as stated on the menu I didn’t have any mash at all small amount of carrots and cauliflower and two roast potatoes, the landlord came to our table and abruptly apologised for the wait and made some excuses and said we hadn’t waited and hour it was only 40 minutes but offered no other discount just a half hearted apology meals were very disappointing for £14:95 chicken dinner was a joke, won’t be returning any time soon

Went tonight and have to say what a great evening Food was spot on and very well presented and very tasty indeed The staff are amazing and so polite a credit to the owner The place is warm and inviting and has rooms so will be back and will definitely be staying next time And I have to say I'm fussy bugger This place ticks all the boxes for me So if your reading this go and give it a go My new favourite place Loved it

I was very disappointed with the beef roast dinner I ordered. For £14.95 I would have expected the food to be tasty but it was quite bland with very runny tasteless gravy and a shortage of vegetables. I won’t be returning here for a roast dinner!

My husband and I have just returned from a fabulous two night break at this hotel. The hotel is in a glorious setting, and at this time of year, the autumnal colours of the surrounding trees are stunning. Our room was a great size and equipped with everything we needed. The food, both at breakfast and evening times, was fabulous - first class. The wonderful cooked breakfasts set us up for the day, and the scrumptious prawn cocktail, Stilton burger and sirloin steak for evening dinner were amazing! My mouth is watering just thinking about those meals we ate! John greeted us by name on our first morning at breakfast, which was a lovely, personal touch. Although all of the staff we spoke to seemed very friendly, it was John and Tesney who served us, with attentiveness and helpfulness. Overall, this was a wonderful two nights away in a fabulous hotel, with fantastic food and fantastic staff. Are we going to return? We certainly are!

Worse Sunday lunch I've ever had. Lamb was inedible and certainly not roasted, all slimy. Worried I might be ill. Veg, roasties, Yorkshire pud edible but only just. They didn't charge for it but no apology. Couldn't get out quick enough!

Friends and I had a late lunch here last week; their opening hours for food are extremely convenient. Hadn’t seen these friends for nearly thirty years so we had plenty to chat about but we were not rushed in the slightest by the delightful Waitress. The lovely owner who knew one of my friends came over and shook my hand; was very friendly and welcoming and did the same on the way out. All three courses were delicious, I had prawn cocktail, gammon which I can’t usually resist and was excellent in this case. I was full already but just to keep my friend company, you understand, was talked into having dessert so just had ice cream, two large scoops of the best salted caramel I’ve ever had. My friends were similarly happy with their meals. So have decided to go again later in the month with another friend as I was so impressed, it is definitely going to be one of my regular places for food now. Thank you to all at the Black Lion!

If I could give more then 5 stars I would. We where here for the weekend On a 5k & 10k Run about 12 minutes Drive away The Hotel was perfect. The rooms where extremely nice good size well furnished spotless. Lovely Big fluffy towels Was so quite at night The Hotel looks onto a River with lovely views The food was really nice Well presented & plenty. We had the ghosts cheese starter which was extremely nice Followed by the 14oz Gammon stake Perfectly cooked & served with side accompaniments. Breakfast was the same Nice full English plenty of it & yogurt orange juice toast ,& coffee/ tea, The staff where very friendly & Helpful The owners where a very nice couple very chatty . Fantastic afternoon for my partners 60th birthday. There was 15 of us very quick service food was lovely only disappointment was the lack of roast potatoes 2 very small pieces!! Definitely be back again Thank you

Went with my children during a short break in Wales, had a lovely homely meal, reasonably priced, picturesque location. My boys loved paddling in the stream.

We stayed for one night and ate dinner and breakfast. This restaurant with rooms is a fantastic find. Spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated rooms, friendly staff and delicious food. Where else can you get a perfectly cooked steak for under £20? We will be back.

Staff friendly and engaging - Didn't feel rushed like some places. A few people seemed to be staying at the on-site accommodation but we found adequate parking for a mid week meal. Everything we ordered was hot and tasty.

We have just returned from a night stay at the black lion and it was lovely. As we drew into the carpark, we were greeted with beautiful blooms of hanging baskets, a roomy carpark and a lovely brook running at the bottom of the carpark. We decided to have lunch, sandwiches and dirty fries (amazing!) Before we were shown to our room, which was very clean, with excellent views, plenty of tea, coffee etc and comfortable. Our food and drink was amazing. I had the seabass and it was beautiful. The staff couldn't have been nicer, very attentive and polite, and it was nice to hear how much the village ment to them. We had a walk through the village and called into the post office. We had a nice chat with the some of the village residents and they gave my son a couple of words in Welsh to speak, he really enjoyed hearing the Welsh language (as did we) they were very warm and were interested where we had travelled from. All in all a really beautiful place, we can't wait to visit again.

Lovely little pub in a beautiful setting by a little river. We stopped for the kids to have a paddle and thought we’d try our luck getting a table. The waitress was very accommodating and found us a table straightaway. The food was great pub grub !! The kids were happy with their choices too :)

Four of us were treated to a special surprise by my husband. It was a Saturday evening and the pub had a happy bustling atmosphere. We were seated swiftly and we perused the menu at leisure with no pressure. Drinks ordered at the table and swiftly served. My brother’s partner chose the chicken korma with half rice and chips with naan bread, brother had the gammon, egg, pineapple and chips, husband had the sea bass with prawns and garlic and dauphinois potatoes which he described as outstanding and I had the steak and ale pie with Stilton with chips and vegetables. The steak chunks were melt in the mouth absolutely amazing. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

The food was below expectations going from previous reviews. My partner had chips fish and mushy peas served on a piece of newspaper on the plate. The meal nearly slipped completely off the plate his view on his meal was Wetherspoons is much nicer the batter on the fish was soggy. My meal I had lasagne which was presented with a tomato on top to disguise the top of the lasagne as this was black and very over cooked also the garlic bread was black underneath burnt. Very overpriced for the quality of food

Really disappointed with the food. Wouldn't recommend the roast dinner as they are tasteless. Roast potatoes are hard to cut as are the Yorkshire puddings. My husband had the burger, which he enjoyed. The wine was nice. Desserts are not homemade put cost £7.95 each. My mum had the lemon meringue which she said was tasteless. If I eat here again, I wouldn't have a roast.

Disappointing pub that isn't dog friendly where as surrounding pubs and Olivias round the corner is dog friendly. We didn't go back after been told we weren't welcome with my pooch. My advice would be to section off an area in the pub where dogs can go with their owners for a meal.
