The Sunday roast is nothing like advertised. We thought we’d researched well for a location for a good Sunday roast. How disappointed were we. The food came out very quickly and was literally looked & tasted like microwaved rubbish. The roasts were like out of a bag and the veg was like the mixed frozen veg bag from supermarket. The cauliflower cheese was watery and very bland. The staff were friendly but I would not recommend this place for food. The dining room also felt soul less. There are other better eating places within this location.

Disappointing Sunday Roast, frozen mixed veg, frozen roast potatoes . My chicken was good but the beef was poor my husband and 2 people on the next table left this or fed it to one of the many dogs in the restaurant, and the 'extra' cauliflower cheese was very sad - end of a frozen bag possibly , not crisped under the grill and all loose bits and pieces.

Classic tasty pub food. I recommend the sausage and mash. Good whiskeys on the bar. Pool table (for £1). Friendly staff and nice people. Rooms were comfortable, warm and clean, and showers were hot with excellent water pressure.

Was drawn in by the menu and it looked really busy, so cajoled our daughter in to eating in this establish. I ordered the "steak and ale" pie. It was effectively just a reheated Holland's pie with a handful of frozen chips. My husband ordered the cheese and bacon burger. It was abysmal. In his words it was "the worst burger he'd ever had" the burger was tiny and looked burnt. I waited a while at the bar, too. The cutlery was grubby and my husband had to sift through the knives and forks to find 3 clean ones. We left our food after a couple of bites. Atmosphere was okay but avoid the food.

After reading the reviews of this beautiful looking pub, we booked a table for our first night stay in Betws-y-Coed. Place looked beautiful from the outside, friendly staff, but our table for 2 was not ready, the food was very disappointing, even the chips did not taste right. After such high expectations, it was a huge disappointment.

Popped in for a pint, which was decent. Ordered a 6oz rump steak as there were no sirloin steaks on offer. The steak was cooked great and the quality was good. Just a shame that there aren't more steaks on offer and steaks that are larger as 6oz is a tad on the small size. Prices looked to be really good. Would recommend

Booked table for 7. Turned up and they said we have to sit outside. At 7pm, in October. They seemed annoyed that we were "another table WE didn't know about" despite accepting our booking. The book looked basic from the menu. We had to queue at the bar to find this all out, so we took our drink and left without bothering for food. Shut a shame

Honestly I've always had a good experience here, but the shorter bartender was a major problem.. he complained about his working hours constantly, incredibly sarcastic to me and other customers, even when I intentionally was taking it on the chin since like all of us, maybe he's having a bad day or something, he just gradually, openly got worse, till the point where I couldn't pretend to see this as some sort of "oh god this job sucks, I can't wait to finish" kind of joke anymore, it genuinely took me by surprise till the point that I felt conflicted to even fake smile at his remarks. I really debated leaving a review to avoid coming off as sort of Karen type lol, but my mates are truly shocked by how he was.. this behaviour is not acceptable and needs acknowledging. The guy openly complained and embarassed me about my order being complex besides me explaining it to him clearly (and nicely too! It was such a small drinks order), and then intentionally stares long and hard back at me while shaking his head multiple times throughout the whole interaction of this order, scoffing, smirking, and then finishing with an obnoxious, loud sigh muttering the time he finishes his shift, genuinely unbelievable. I get you might have had a long day perhaps, but please don't take this out on everyone else. I've worked the exact same job as you in the past and yes I'm empathetic as some days it can purely seem like a slow pay day, but there's no excuse to behave that outwardly negative. Maybe it was some weird attempt at banter, but it really didn't come off as that to myself or anyone else.. big lack of self awareness if you think that is an okay way to behave too. It sucks but I'm glad to say I've never experienced this bad of an experience with being served even close to similar as here, it's an absolute shame too since the other bartender was a really sociable guy, super friendly! And usually a great pub, but to this person.. please learn some proper people skills or a little restraint, someone in the beer garden overheard me when asking my friend for a second opinion, and this person also joined in with his own negative experience. We were so friendly to you, like come on man? Lol

A pretty disappointing stay for one night. Two of us booked in for a one night stay and paid around £90. We didn’t expect a lot for the money and knew that we’d be staying in accommodation above a pub so expected some noise and basic rooms. On arrival we we found a nicely decorated room with enough space for what we needed. We weren’t there long though before realising the poor cleaning that had or hadn’t been carried out. First of all the mini fridge had a half finished bottle of Rose inside from the previous guest, the windows have many decent size cobwebs on the inside which have clearly been there for a long time, but worst of all the shower has a build up of grime across all seals and edges, I say grime because they easily wiped off while in the shower. Pretty disgusting if I’m honest. The room was very dusty to the point that we could write on the lamps, mini fridge and even the floor. We decided to have some food and ordered the Sunday lunch. There was a decent amount of food but found the meat to be very dry and had to ask for more gravy, this was no problem and they helped us with this quickly. Not worth £16.99 though I’m sorry. The WiFi also doesn’t work in the bedroom but there is EE signal so we used our hotspot for the Netflix. Another point is that the sash windows couldn’t be kept open, they can be lifted but fall straight back down which wasn’t ideal in a warm room. On the plus side the hotel was in a decent location, and considering the room was above a pub it was completely silent at night. The shower was powerful and there was a selection of toiletries included. I felt for the lady working the restaurant as I feel she was being let down by her staff. She was apologetic about the issues but at the same time offered no discounts or free drink or desert to compensate for the inconveniences which would have been welcomed. When we checked out nobody could be found in the building so we didn’t have a chance to discuss the cleanliness which we only came to notice at night once we spent enough time in the room.

Waited 45 mins for an insipid looking pie that resembled a frozen pie from a cheap supermarket, frozen chips and peas. The soup I ordered was advertised as sold with warm sourdough bread but actually came with cheap sliced bread. Steak meal that my husband had wasn't much better. The couple who came in 10 mins after us were told there was a 30 min wait for food but got served their burgers before our food arrived. Will definitely not eat here again. Oh and the toilet was filthy, water ? on floor and an overflowing bin.

More of a pub with rooms than a hotel/inn. The bar downstairs was open until 2:40am, loud music and rowdy clientele keeping us awake well beyond what is reasonable to expect. “Double” bed was two singles pushed together, cobwebs in the corners and nowhere for clothes in the room, so you live out of a suitcase. No parking should have been better advertised, there is parking on the roads nearby or in a pay to play car park over the bridge. Great location but feel like we massively overpaid for what it is.

We visited for lunch 11 8 24. Mains came with no problem and were delicious. However, we ordered 2 biscoff sundaes which hadnt arrived after 50 mins. We had to ask for a refund as car park time was nearly out. the lad behind the bar was doing the work of at least 3 staff - he was on his own takibg orders, serving at the bar - he had to leave the bar unmanned while he made 3 take out coffees and also had to sort out draught cola which wasnt working. He was doing a great job but it wasnt fair that he was on his own - come on management and get staffing sorted!!! Our desserts still hadnt arrived after 50 mins so it seems there were no kitchen staff either. The pub is really lovely and mains were fab - just lack of staff let the pub down. U should not expect 1 guy to run the whole bar on his own. And,as i say, there didnt seem to be any waiting on staff or kitchen staff either. It was lunchtime 1-2 pm???

Arrived during the England game so it was naturally very busy everywhere. I was abit concerned that there was no onsite parking, however did manage to get into the last space in the car park opposite for £2 overnight rate 6pm til 8am. (Moved the car the following morning to a free street space) We were welcomed by the new owners Mike and Jennie who apologised for the busy atmosphere, however we loved it and praised them for being so full. We were shown to Room 5. Had a double bed and a single bed. Beautiful cozy bedding. The shower was incredible, loved it. We were seated nice and quick for dinner, had the mixed grill, the steak was cooked to perfection 👌 Full English breakfast in the morning was lovely before heading out for a walk. The Sunday roast was absolutely spot on, plenty of meat and the beef was cooked well. We found our hosts to be very attentive during our 2 night stay , very friendly and happy to chat whenever we went into the bar. It's an old building, it does have its creeks and heavy doors so there is some noise but it's in a perfect location especially if you're visiting zip world, reasonably priced across the board and well worth a return visit. We visited this place a few times over a four day stay. It was a great local pub: we had food once which was decent (that day lunch service was till 3.30pm), drinks only on other occasions. This is a pub not a restaurant so the food service/experience is a pub food service. It's a busy little spot and not huge inside so getting a table can be a challenge - it wouldn't appear to be somewhere that could reserve a table easily. Pool table at the back and beer garden with heaters. If you have time to have a drink and wait you'd probably get a table within 20 min.

We booked a table for midday for 6, for lunch. Unfriendly woman eventually let us in the hotel at 5 past, having seen us waiting outside for a good 10 mins...no conversation or welcome from her at all, no table ready for us, or laid...we had to manoeuvre tables ourselves to accommodate our party. Incredibly unfriendly! Only spoke to us when she absolutely had to! Not offered menus, and when we asked, she plonked them on the bar for us to get...despite the fact that out table was about 3 foot from the bar hatch where she was standing, not doing a lot! We were the only people there at that time. When our food arrived we had no cutlery or condiments on the table, so we asked for some...and were told to get our own from the other side of the room. The food was below average. Everything overcooked and dry. Desert was just OK. We were really disappointed, and couldn't understand why the service (if you can call it that) was so cold and rude. It must be a real challenge to be that grumpy and miserable! Didn't see her smile once the whole time we were there. We're local to the area...so don't be fooled into thinking that only the tourists get poorly treated! They absolutely don't give a stuff. Do yourselves a favour...go ANYWHERE else! Anywhere else will be 100% better!! With attitudes like that, they won't be around for much longer anyway 😁

Value for money was excellent, portions were very good, only disappointed was the veg, its was a bit to under cooked for my liking, a like a bit of crunch, but it was virtually raw and the gravy could have been a bit thicker. But all in all was good.

Just eaten here. Chips, pie, peas and gravy. Everything cold except pie. Presumed it had been microwaved. I give larger portion of chips to my grandson who has just turned two! Home now with a large plate of beans on toast to fill me.

I'd booked a table through Open Table for the Valentine's menu at 7pm on the 11th Feb. Open Table and the pub website stated that this menu would be available from 9th Feb to the 18th Feb. I read some reviews on the day we were due to go and saw that some people who had booked through Open Table had arrived to find the pub had no record of the booking. I also googled the pub and it said the kitchen closed at 6pm the day we'd booked for 7pm. I rang the pub 6 times without getting an answer and sent an enquiry on their website, again with no reply. We were staying nearby to the pub so popped in at around 5.30pm to check and sure enough the kitchen did close at 6pm. The lady on duty didn't seem too bothered by this, just saying she didn't know why we'd been able to book a table at 7pm. I asked about the Valentine's menu to be met with no, that menu wasn't available until the next day. I showed the lady the pub's website on my phone, that stated the dates it was available. She took my phone from me to show the kitchen. It was agreed, somewhat reluctantly, we could have the menu, albeit with a couple of items missing. The food was really nice. Unfortunately, it was rather spoilt by the booking fiasco and the indifference shown by the staff.

Nice pub but overshadowed by bar maid who was more interested in texting than serving ...waited 20 mins stood at bar.... previously my partner asked what gins available to be told'they are down there' so she had to push her way through a load of blokes to look..... was going eat there but decided to go to ' the stables' instead....lot nicer environment....... we all have bad days but this woman certainly took it out on the customers.

Not a review against the food. Made our reservation for Sunday at 5pm via their website, using Opentable. When we arrived, the team didn’t have our booking, and despite us providing email confirmation, we couldnt have a table as they had closed the kitchen an hour earlier than they advertise online.

Empty pub but probably better in busier periods, had scampi and chips with peas, scampi hot, chips Luke warm and peas cold on both dishes, fruit crumble very nice, very tasty and hot (husband had custard on his and he said that was hot too) otherwise nice looking place maybe better in summer and price wise 2xmeals (main and starter or main and pud) £12.99 each not bad.

Great little hotel in a great location, food, drinks and accommodation is good value for money. We spend a weekend at the hotel, very casual feel but warm and welcoming experience.

Booked this place for Sunday Lunch which was confirmed by email admittedly through Open Table. Turned up at the given time and there was no one behind the bar, no food being served that we could see and virtually no people in the bar!! Why make bookings that they have no intention of keeping. We’d travelled a way to get there and basically it was a waste of time

After enquiring about a large booking for 14 people, I was hoping to book for next weekend but now I am so glad I didn’t! When we popped in today for drinks, the barman was so rude, it was really embarrassing. He persisted with rude comments about the drinks not coming with glasses, only straws, laughed when we ordered 4 soft drinks for the children (I assume he thought that was all we were ordering, but there was 6 adults also planning on having two or three drinks). Eventually, after ten minutes of rude sniping, my brother pulled him up on it and asked what his problem was. The man started to argue and be aggressive, and my brother then also started to raise his voice. Lots of other customers commented on how the barman was antagonising and was the instigator, and how he was also rude to other people before us. An older gentleman asked for a cloth to clean the table he was about to sit at, and was asked ‘can’t you just sit at another table?’ There were no other tables, so the man was given some paper towel to clean his table. I respect that he has the right to refuse service as he stated it was his business, I now know that it isn’t, so it’s strange that he is using that to be rude to someone else’s customers, but when ordering the second round he refused service to me, even though I had not been involved in the first incident. He did say to my brother ‘don’t front me or I’ll see you outside.’ He told my mum to F off, when she went in alone to talk it through. my mum is an older, respectful and professional woman, who was asking for an apology. But we soon realised that there is no reasoning with the man. I strongly advise that he doesn’t serve front of house, he shouldn’t work in hospitality in a nice place. We have never had a situation like this before, we are always polite, and although we are a large group, we are usually accommodated professionally and so this was a shock to us. We dined in Y Gilar arms last night, and if you were to ask them, they would tell you that it was an easy party to host, with a generous tip and a large bill to be paid at the end too. If this was my business, I would appreciate this feedback, as it really was quite remarkable. A shame, as the Pont Y par looked so nice and traditional from the outside too, but we can’t return, and will be posting this email to trip advisor too. Kimberley.

These guys are absolute heroes! I had large group of friends join me at the pub and Heather (the landlady) absolutely went out of her way to ensure that the food was tasty, the atmosphere was great and that we all had a wonderful time. Beautiful pub, beautiful staff. Absolutely can't wait to return.

We stopped in here for lunch. Staff were pleasant. We ordered the steak and the mixed grill. Steak was nice and cooked to how we wanted it. Mixed grill was pretty average. Tasted ok, but nothing that made it any more special than your average mixed grill at a spoons which is a lot cheaper that the £17.50 here.

So sad that this bar remains closed - it’s difficult to understand why the reason given is “staff shortages”? Just pay them a decent wage and recover the cost on the drink prices! It’s a lovely spot to stop and have a nice cold beer on a sunny day.
