I'm not going to lie, I had heard mixed reviews for the Black Horse. I needn't have worried though. Straight off from entering the bar we were welcomed warmly. Drinks were ordered as we were a little early. We were informed that our table was nearly ready, but we were in no rush. We soon went through and got seated. We had pre-ordered the meal as we were a large party. The meal came out quickly, was well cooked and really tasty. It's rare to find a pub restaurant that treated you as family, but that's exactly how we were treated at the Black Horse. I can't praise all the staff enough for how well we were looked after. I am also looking forward to going back for another meal.

Called in today for first time, won't be going back. Two of us went to eat, bar small causing queues, bar staff extremely slow, two on and one of those kept going missing, ordered two soft drinks, very expensive, food prices well they obviously think they are round the Norfolk coast and then told there was a 45 minute wait. We both walked out at this point and found somewhere else where service was better, food good and prices reasonable. Will not be returning to Black Horse.

Wonderful meal Saturday evening. Atttentive staff, well priced and food was delicious! I had the Barnsley lamb chop - amazing! Husband had a chicken burger, which was doubled up and huge!! Mother in law had the gammon which looked fabulous and she said it was the best gammon she’s had for a long time. Son opted for a kids burger with added bacon, and he wolfed it down followed by the chocolate brownie…. Will return when in area next, all staff amazing and very attentive, thank you :)

Me and my friend pop in there for lunch, after long ride on the bike. We are both not a British and I think manager spotted that. He ask to come on other side to order. I ask for Beef roast (£16, fair price) and pint of lemonade, in total I paid £23.50 , so £7.50 for pint of lemonade. 😳 Only I think that even in London you can get this cheaper 🤔 Portion smaller that I know from other places, but big enough to make me full. My friend ordered burger (£17, if I good remember) and 2 X 0% Corona, he paid £23.50 too. Portion nice, burger looks great and a lot of fries. Lovely place and dogs aloud, what is great. The negative side of the pub is When they're see someone not local they treat you like extra money box.

We rebooked Sunday lunch there having cancelled 4 wks ago as one of us wasn't well. I wish I hadn't bothered... it was one of the most disappointing meals out I've had, ever. I don't mind paying 16 quid for a roast, but I do expect a decent plate of food. What what saved up was nothing more than a child-sized meal. On my plate were two smallish slices of very average beef, three small roast potatoes, half a carrot sliced long-ways, a quarter of a parsnip, a spoonful of soggy cabbage and a crusty yorkie. Jayne's was the same, but with pork, and it was not even served with crackling or apple sauce, both of which were stated on the menu. I mean, we didn't even get a whole roast potato between us!!! Less than 10 mins later, that was that. Including drinks we spent 2 x £16, plus £12.50 for two drinks, that's almost 45 quid for a really piss poor meal. It was just awful and felt like a total rip-off. I complained afterwards and was promptly told, "we've been really busy, never had any complaints before (really???) and I'm sorry you feel like that"... as if it wasn't even their problem! They couldn't even offer any concession or recompense to try to retain my custom. I explained my feedback was in their interest and not something I did lightly. It's hard to complain like that. However, I said we won't be going back and left. So, if you to eat out for a sunday roast, don't go to The Black Horse Inn, Castle Rising. If you do, make sure you've got a decent selection of cheese and biscuits for when you get home. Alternatively, go to The Crown at Gayton. A choice of four carved meats, help yourself to potatoes and vegetables, and only £13.95, but you'll have to book ahead, which speaks volumes.

Overall, the service standard was patchy - patently the junior staff were not trained and when I tried to pay and add a tip she couldn’t/wouldn’t figure out how to do it so no tip was left! Visited on three successive nights, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Nice looking restaurant with good ambience. Ate at three separate tables, a large one which was stable and two smaller ones that moved. Friday meal was excellent, and service good. Saturday meal was OK, but service slower. Sunday meal adequate, but nothing to write home about, and the service was very slow. The restaurant was much busier on Saturday than Friday, and slightly busier on Sunday compared to Saturday. My take was that they had insufficient staff, who did their best, but struggled when the restaurant got busy.
