The Best Plaice in East Cambridgeshire

We had cod and chips from here on a Friday evening. Lovely white fish in crispy light batter. More than enough chips, nicely cooked. Friendly service.

Popped in & got a two large cod & chips Very good , also the staff were very friendly & there was quite a large choice on the menu

Went there today 7/6/23 just passing to get food as not from area .And asked if he accepted card payment he repeatedly asked me if I had cash ,then finally answered my question to card payment and said yes but its £16 minimum which I then turned and left.Very rude …More

The food is what you’d expect from a village chippy but not as good as some others in the area. The main negative is they won’t accept card payments below a certain spend. Considering there are no banks nearby and people carry cash far less frequently these days, I found it highly frustrating

Top quality fish and chips once again - fish cooked to order. Lovely batter and good chips. Friendly service. Lucky to have this in the village.

Pre ordered for a 6 pm pick up on a Wednesday night. Order was ready to bag up when I arrived. Beautiful fish and the chips were perfectly cooked. Paid cash but I think the lady was reaching for a card machine as I offered the cash. I've never been disappointed by the standard or the service.

Another visit - Friday evening and quite busy, 6pm, but well organised. We had cod, pie and chips. Generous portions, well cooked fish and chips and all tasty as usual!

We visited as a family and were able to combine our wishes for a combination of kebabs, pizzas and chips. 7 of us are, 7 of us were happy!

Really good food. Chips are chunky and crispy. Fish was not too greasy. The ordering system is shocking though. We phoned through an order at 5:10pm to collect in 30min. Waited there for 30min having arrived at 5:40. Finally walked away with food at 6:10pm. Not very fast, or organised. But great food, and generous portions

Decided at the last minute to treat ourselves to a F&C lunch. Great pieces of well cooked fish not oily and wow the amount of chips. Would not hesitate to go again.

good chipshop but down side was child playing with the side where my food was being made and prepaired and playing with the till so i didnt know what was being added good chipshop but needs to sort this out fast as not very professional

Cod, Scampi, Pies, Fish-cakes - and of course chips - all perfectly cooked. It is easy to take good food for granted; earlier in February Charley's was closed for a week and we had to buy fish and chips from another shop in a nearby village. They were no were near as good as Charley's. The other good news is that Charley's is now also open on a Sunday.

I love this fish and chip shop. Well cooked food in a clean environment. Friendly staff serving reasonably priced meals. You get lots of chips. One portion is usually enough for two people.

When the shop was closed earlier in the month we went to another chip shop in an adjacent village. All we can say is we are glad that The Best Plaice is open again! Definitely the best chips - and great freshly cooked fish.

Yes at peak times you have to queue - which is great because it means everything is freshly cooked, hot and really tasty. Good sized portions and good value.

I still totally recommend as really nice, However just feedback as my chicken wrap was made left on the side while chips were being cooked, another order when out so had to ask could my dinner be put together, which was in the end but wrap all cold.

You may have to wait a few minutes, but the food here is always freshly cooked (except the meat pies) with the option of burgers and kebabs all under one roof. Staff are always happy to help and cannot be faulted - even selling me a cheaper special offer that got me a free drink! Portions are always large,

Visited “The Best Plaice” mid-week and found most food was being cooked to order. The large cod was huge and the portion of chips was more than ample. The Haddock was nicely cooked.

We had Scampi, Cod and Steak & Kidney pie - with a large portion of chips and a large pot of mushy-peas - perfect! We are lucky to have a good chip-shop on the village.

Called here for fish and chips on a busy Saturday evening and had two regular cod and one large portion of chips. All the food was cooked fresh and the portion size was good. There was plenty of locals getting their supper which is always a good recommendation. The staff were all pleasant and cheerful. When we got home and ate the fish and chips they tasted as good as I’d hoped—-superb!

Visiting family and arriving early evening we called here for supper and enjoyed fantastic fish and chips. Portion sizes are very good and the fish (cod) was cooked superbly. Would certainly enjoy eating from here again.

A busy Friday night in the chip shop - yes you do have to wait sometimes because they don't have loads of fish pre-cooked steaming under the hot lamps - but that means its fresh for you. Love the chips.

Never a piece of fish cooked and ready to serve 'Seven minutes Boss' still waiting fifteen minutes later! Battered Sausage had a feel and taste of last nights unsold bangers cooked again. Squished chips on the floor (must have upset another customer!) No Fried Chicken at Lunchtime! For the only Chip Shop in the Village they really ought to do better than this!

My title says it all. The Shish Kebab, Cod and the Chips always tastes good, the staff look grumpy but are very polite.

We have bought cod and chips here on several occasions in the past two months. The cod is delicious and the chips are not greasy. Definitely recommend.
