The Bengal - Indian Restaurant and Takeaway Lichfield in Lichfield

The food is fair. They try to do a Brit-Bengal fusion in presentation. Good effort but the spices were over-salted and the mirch chicken was a spinach dish on a cold plate. Never ever known a chef to add so much salt that it can be tasted over the spices. I think there is far too much on the menu for the chef to do well. Hope it improves. For now - just ok.

The food was really good and sensible size portions. Staff really friendly and chatting to us and our children. The children got to name the fish in the tank.

The food was cold and late, don’t get it just send the driver with less food and inform us on the delivery time rather than it been late and cold

Nice food but truly awful service. Ordered on the website which advised a 50 minute wait. Being a Saturday we expected that it might be a bit longer than this, which is understandable at peak times. However after an hour and a half with no food I called the restaurant to be advised the order was being packed up. Another half an hour and still no food, so I called again and was told it had ‘left the restaurant but I can’t tell you how long it will be’. We finally got our food about 2 hours and 20 mins after ordering, with no apology from the driver. The food was tasty but not worth the ordering experience. Save yourself some time and order from Lal Bagh instead for a better experience.

I've had a lot of Indian food and this place is definitely up there. I ordered the chicken Jalfrezi - great depth of flavour with a mild punch. My dad had a dish with lamb, which I don't recall the name of, but the meat was tender and juicy. I think lamb dishes are where most Indian restaurants struggle, but this one certainly excels. If you're ever in Lichfield, I highly recommend you try The Bengal. Also, shout out to Mohamed for great service!

Beautiful food, beautiful atmosphere! I would recommend everyone to try this place out. I visited here with my family and was made to feel welcome. The food was great and the service was friendly.

What a shambles, order for 8 o clock and delivery at 6.30. Coming to collect it back as offer no discount as it is an hour and half early. What a joke of a place Your point was there could be no discount for me eating food that was jour and half late and you woukd collect it!! Tbe bad point is my food would of been given to someone else I guess..and we both know the customer service and manner of speech was not great for a business I'm sure is desperate for customers given the amount of competition !

Eaten here a few times and had a takeaway last night. Undoubtedly the best takeaway we've ever had, when eating in the restaurant the waiters couldn't be more helpful and a great laugh.

Absolutely amazingly fantastic. I have lived in Lichfield for over 20 years and was often highly recommended to eat here. Decided to get a takeaway a couple of nights ago and cannot compliment this establishment enough. The food was quite simply the best I have tasted in the UK. Now, I worked in India for 18 months many years ago so my tastebuds were tantalised with real Indian cuisine. Had not been able to find anywhere back in the UK that got close … until I went here on Monday. Will never go anywhere else … well done folks … you have a raving fan 👍👍👏👏👏👍👍👍 Thank you!

The keema naan I received was burnt, and the typically delightful modhu minty lamb aloo was a real letdown. It completely lacked the sweet and minty flavours that made it a favourite in the past. Here's hoping the next order brings back the quality it once had.

First time visit and expected good things according to Google reviews. We were there as they opened so were happy to give them time to settle in. Poppadoms were fresh. Unfortunately the chicken tikka starter was tough. Well presented and good service but the theme continued. The meat in the curries was quite tough. The chicken masala was too sweet, too much food colouring and lacked flavour. We were treated well but the food, overall, was bland.

Quality meal as usual, full of flavour and tender chicken, will definitely order again.

Use here all the time and never had a bad meal… until tonight, chips were really greasy, was enjoying my food until it was crunchy 🤔 there was egg shells in my food small ones and some size of a 10p, it put me off my food with each mouthful being crunchy, had to throw it away was making me feel sick

It was about 20 months ago past the estimated time. So allow for some flexibility. Well worth the wait! The food was incredibly tasty!!! My first time ordering here. Definitely won’t be my last. Thx!!

Delicious food and very reasonably priced. This was the first time we had been but it certainly won't be the last. The staff were one of the main reasons we would go back, really friendly and genuine.

Food for 8 was ready in 25 minutes. Staff in the restaurant were very friendly and the food was the best takeaway we’ve had from anywhere in years!!!! We will be back.

Delivery on time, polite delivery driver, i ordered chicken tikka rice with no onions and we received egg fried rice with onions but lid says no onions 🤷‍♀️ my son refused to eat it. Onions were in my keema rice too, but I didn’t mind, the meal was nice apart from that, son noticed the naans were smaller than usual too

One of Lichfields oldest curry houses (if not the original!) My go to takeaway of choice. You can get more exciting or modern dishes elsewhere, but for consistent, excellent food for dine in or takeaway this is a belter.

Absolutely the best curry in Lichfield! We ordered the lamb bhuna and dupiaza, and the meat was so tender it just fell apart. The sauces were seasoned to perfection, and the garlic and cheese naan was wonderfully soft and buttery. The only small downside was that the rice was slightly firm, but it didn’t take away from the overall experience of the takeaway. We’ll definitely be dining in next time!

This was the most amazing find! My friend and I were in Lichfield for a business related stay. It was a Sunday night and a lot of places were not open for food. We did however come across this place and how glad we did! The front of house gave us a warm welcome and showed us to our table. I asked for a recommendation and after asking me what my taste was, he recommended the chef’s special which was a spicy lamb dish. WOW! The most perfect spiced lamb dish I have ever tasted! Accompanied by lovely rice and Naan bread, it was one of the best Indian meals I’ve tasted. I can’t recommend this place enough. Amazing food and service. I hope to return soon!

The staff here are incredibly hospitable, accommodating a group of ten of us for a friend’s stag do with ease. The food was fantastic—I opted for the tandoori mixed grill, and every piece of meat was cooked to perfection. The decor is lovely, and the staff are polite and attentive. What more could you ask for? Highly recommended!

Always delicious food at The Bengal!

When ordering, the time for the order to be ready was listed as 25 minutes, but after going through the ordering process, the actual wait time was 1 hour. I would not have ordered had I known the wait would be this long. Needs to be more accurate.

disappointed to see that takeaway prices are more expensive than eating in.......Belal's Special Jalfrizi is £12.95 eat inland £14.25 delivered on top of handling and delivery charge... won't be ordering takeaway again from here. Shame as we are regular visitors to the restaurant.

First time coming here, was a lovely Father’s Day meal, staff were polite and extremely helpful and the food was to die for! Will definitely be coming here again!

Hadn’t been for a while. Food was good but watch out for the drinks! I had a pint of Kingfisher and then asked for another but I was only brought a half. I queried it but the waiter acted as if he didn’t understand. When the bill came the pint was £5.25 and the half £4.25! So it seems deliberate profiteering. Shame, I won’t go back in a hurry. So a miniscule gain for them.

Everything was lovely, just one small thing, you never read the comments about no onions in the rice, and my child wasn’t happy they spent a while picking them out and didn’t really eat it, please read comments :)

Visited yesterday and enjoyed our food. Very tasty and the chicken cooked perfectly. Nice looking restaurant and pretty good prices. The service was ok but they didn't have the drinks we wanted, they asked for our order twice and they brought out a sweet sauce when I asked for a spicy one and didn't swap it.

The food was really good, if you are visiting Lichfield give this place a try, excellent service.

Actually it’s Just Eat that have got this order horribly wrong- misinforming about the order being received, misinformed about when it left the restaurant and misinformed about the delivery itself. Rubbish. Next time I’ll order direct with the restaurant.

Just over an hour from placing order to delivery of food.

I do like the Bengal, I must admit as their takeaway food is always hot and very tasty, however, and it might be minor to others, but when I order £70 worth of food, 4 mains, 2 rice, onion bhaji, 6 poppadoms, and 4 naans, what I didn’t expect was one tiny pot of mint dip and a tiny bag of brown onions which consisted mainly of onion core. Other Indian restaurants, won’t mention them provide too many condiments for one poppadom, that’s great because they are consistent in generosity. Picture the 4 of us all trying to sparingly dip our breads and bhajis into one teeny tiny pot with precision as not to waste any or deny the other diners of their share.

The dish I had was bland unfortunately. The Chicken balti really lacked flavour and it seemed overpriced, not value for money. Service was however very good.

Food was stone cold, Nan bread was tough, chewy and stale looking , and the popadam was just a few broken pieces in a bag. Really disappointed as never been like this before. Sadly a total waste of money tonight .

Not up to it's usual standard. On a busy Saturday evening we waited an hour for our food and staff were not really interested in serving us. Was our favourite in Lichfield so we will give it another go to see if this was just a blip.

I had a Mr. Naga tonight, usually it is very tasty but not too hot. Tonight it blew my face off and I was so happy. As usual great service, prompt, efficient and polite and a couple of extras thrown in.. thanks very much team Bengal!

Naan breads were much smaller than usual and burnt as were the poppadoms..didn't get the free onion bhajis even though spent the right amount. If id have know I'd have ordered them.
