The Bengal - Indian Restaurant and Takeaway Lichfield in Lichfield

The dish I had was bland unfortunately. The Chicken balti really lacked flavour and it seemed overpriced, not value for money. Service was however very good.

Not up to it's usual standard. On a busy Saturday evening we waited an hour for our food and staff were not really interested in serving us. Was our favourite in Lichfield so we will give it another go to see if this was just a blip.

Friendly staff, great food. Recommend the chicken korai, good heat & very tasty. Also the Tawa chicken tikka, lovely!

The Bengal is a mainstay of the Lichfield curry scene. From drunken teenage nights to middle age reminiscing this restaurant continues to serve a purpose. There are better curry houses in Lich but somehow The Bengal epitomises all that an Indian Restaurant should be.

We had a lovely meal here, very authentic and fresh food, good portion sizes with great service. I’ve lived in Lichfield for many years and eaten in all of the local Indian restaurants but this is by far the best. The staff were really friendly and we had a great night.

I booked a table for eight very last minute and for a late-evening time slot. The staff were very polite and accommodating, and couldn't do enough for us. They were there when needed, but not too much. The food was amazing, served quickly, piping hot. Nobody was left without. Highly recommend - we'll definitely eat there again!

Super hospitable staff, they accommodated ten of us for a meal for a friends stag do. Food was fantastic, I went with the tandoori mixed grill on this occasions and all meats were cooked to perfection. Lovely decor, polite staff, what more can you ask for!

Actually my name is Steve. I have been going to the Bengal for years and it is also my son's go to place for a take away. Always great service and wonderful food. Very friendly staff when dining in; take away delivery also very friendly.

Terrible! I placed an order from this restaurant paying through the Uber app. They never delivered my food and when I called they answered laughing and then closed the call without explanation. Really not recommended

Very poor. Food was quite tasteless, felt like it was reheated and not cooked fresh. Ordered a takeaway, charged me more than menu price and didn't supply full order. Will never use again.

Last visit was to pick up food to take away. I have also eaten in previously. Food was hot, flavourful and good value. There are two menus, one for delivery one for eating in. But both are vast. Portions are generous. Highly recommend the special naan, keema, chilli, garlic. Superb. Also Pathia is one of the best I have tasted

Order took 2 hours to arrive and when it did was freezing cold, every time I would ring to chase the order was told out for delivery would be 5-10 minutes and 30 minutes later still hadn’t arrived

We regularly order takeaways from The Bengal in Lichfield and have always been very Satisfied with quality and service. Last night we placed an order, Unfortunately the chicken tikka was very dry and hard, the lamb saag balti had very little meat and hardly any spinach, the nan bread was quite burnt, even the freebee bhargis were cold and like bullets. We will have to think again before returning.

Went in at 6 with a party of 9 with 5 children, made to feel really welcome and the food was out of this world! Great service as well.

Used to think the bengal was the best in Lichfield. The past couple of orders we've had have been lacking the usual quality. My keema naan was burnt and the usually amazing modhu minty lamb aloo was not flavoursome at all. no minty or sweet flavour that it used to have. Hoping that next time we order is like it used to be

AMAZING FOOD, BEST CURRY IN LICHFIELD. We had the lamb bhuna and dupiaaza, and it was so tender it fell apart. The sauces were perfectly seasoned, and the garlic and cheese naan was soft and buttery. The only tiny thing that I’d say could improve would be the rice was a tad hard, but it did not hinder the takeaway at all. Next we will be eating in!

AMAZING FOOD!!!! Wow each time we have visited the Bengal this year the food has been truly amazing, alongwith the takeaways we've had. It is fresh, tasty, served hot and consistently good. The garlic & cheese nan is delicious. The service is spot on.....attentive and not overbearing. The restaurant is well laid out and very clean. I cannot recommend this place enough. It is far better than other Indian restaurants in Lichfield. Go on give it a try, you won't regret it. THANK YOU Bengal.

Ordered from here tonight. Food arrived on time and was piping hot. I had Bengal 42 speciality, there was stacks of meat and the plastic tub was rammed! Cheese and garlic naan soft Fresh and really tasty’ chips were ok I like mine really well done

Hi went to a friend's 3 days ago and we had a delivery from the bengal was lovely, so the following days I had another delivery, had the same what I had at my friend's, O M G what a difference had a chicken korma only 3 small pieces of chicken, chips were absolutely terrible, the nan bread was so thick with dough no taste what so ever and it should of been tikka nan without the meat ,very disappointed

Ordered from here many times and always consistently great food. Just ordered the Modhu Minty Lamb Aloo and Paneer Balti and all I can say is PHENOMENAL!

Very disappointed, good meals before but last two takeaways poor, ordered chicken tikka dansak, rubber chicken thankfully tiny portion. 2nd curry they also found chicken hard and not many pieces. So sadly will not be ordering again from here.

Favourite curry house in Lichfield!

After waiting 1hr 25 mins, absolute rubbish. We ordered chicken tikka masala received chicken tikka. It was warm ish, and terribly bland. I've had better indian food from a jar. Absolute tat!

Genuinely can't fault it! Delievers so quickly! Really enjoyed the food and Indian would usually never be my first choice but definitely ordering from here again!

We placed a rather large order of mixed dishes for our daughter's birhday and not only was it delivered on time but every bit of it was absolutely superb!!! Thank you Bengal.

Absolutely awful. We wanted to treat ourselves after cooking 42 nights on the run. Wish I hadn't bothered. Paprika, and two chefs, have nothing to worry about!!

We left our phone there one evening realised once home So activated find my I phone and was showing location at the restaurant At least we knew where it was so we called the restaurant to let them know we had lost a phone The guy said no problem when we find it we shall let you know any way they didn’t And still at 1am after all customers had gone home it was still showing in the restaurant So we went the very next day before they opened To our surprise it wasn’t found and by this time the battery was dead Later that day some one turned on the phone and again located at the restaurant Then hours later it was located in Stourbridge By this time we had the phone blocked by EE and decided it was gone Then weeks later I get a call from a guy who was in Romania calling me for the password as I was on the phone as an emergency contact I told the guy it was a stolen phone and where did he get it from low and behold Stourbridge where he worked at a car wash paid £80 for it He must have known it was dodgy but said he brought it in good faith but had no charger till he got home So we conclude someone that works in the restaurant took the phone when it was found and sold it I can’t prove one of there employees lives or has connections with Stourbridge We had no help from the restaurant at all not interested So in my opinion the food was great but there integrity most definitely is not Police have been informed We shall let them deal with it

Friendly staff, good food, good location

Never usally a complaint always had beautiful meals good portion sizes and a really good service. Whats happened tonight guys? Really dissapointed! Delivered scraps of poppadoms although free not usally your style. Chips which I paid full price for very tiny portion unlike your usual portions. Id understand if you were closing soon but Your open till midnight and I Placed our order ay 9:30pm. we spend a lot of money with you on a regular basis. I hope we dont have to take our business elsewhere

Excellent service and the best quality food and exquisite

We popped in Friday night dinner after walking about looking for somewhere quiet to eat. Most of the popular place seemed busy so we were glad to find this place. It was quiet but not dead when we arrived. The staff were friendly and polite when they greeted us and showed us to our table. The food was decent, not too spicy and full of flavour. My only criticism is that there were no Indian sweets on the pudding menu, although we were told we could request them next time if we pre-ordered.

Pains me to say but after 40years a regular the Bengal has become simply awful. New owners, no atmos, Kylie Monouge on the sound system, no beer licence, fish fingers ans chip's on the menu, strange staff, a little too familiar, I give the place 12 months ... which is a crying shame. Dreadful.

Been coming here for many years and was always a good place for a good curry and a pint. It would appear the restaurant has changed hands and certainly not for the better. Not anymore though. They no longer have a drinks licence but you can get drinks from George iv. apparently though !! Not sure why there is no drinks licence be it voluntarily or otherwise but the premises was empty on a Saturday night The Balti I ordered was certainly not a Balti ,very sweet and not particularly spicy either. The food is not what is was on previous visits

This is my favourite take away in Lichfield. They deliver in Lichfield including- Boley park. The staff are friendly on the phone and on delivery. The food is great too! Highly recommend!

3rd time here...absolutely fantastic dansak curry...spinach and potatoes off the chart...definitely recommend....bring your own beer or wine

Myself and my family have been here tonight, I have recently started on a gluten free diet so have been apprehensive about having a curry. I was reassured about what I could and couldn't eat on the menu and when my food arrived again was told how they prepared my food separately and re washed the dishes my food was served on. The staff were very friendly, professional and attentive throughout to all of their customers and the food was amazing! I will definitely be going back. :-)

Best food in a 5 mile radius. I have tried all and every type of cuisine and The Bengal is superior to every other reateraunt and takeaway. I’ve ate here over 50 times and never once I have had a bad experience with the food or the staff. Highly recommended, satisfaction guaranteed.

Ordered a large order on Just Eat. App showed it was delivered after 20 minutes late. Called them. Very polite which Just Eat have confirmed worried the food had been delivered to the wrong address Bengal response "don't call this number again" and hung up. Ordered many times before. Eventually food arrived driver polite and cared. Food as usual was good but hey. How can they talk like that to you. Last time I ever use them

We have to rely on reviews for good takeaways when on our regular travels around the UK. This was an excellent takeaway with tasty food, good friendly customer service and plenty of freebies with our order. We decided to collect to avoid the long wait for delivery.

Have tried most Indian takeaways in Lichfield and to be honest this is the only one I personally would recommend. Food is glorious.. staff are very polite and didn't have to wait too long... which is great when you have hungry children waiting.. when I have a chance I will definitely go in for a sit down meal...

Curry His Very Nice Service Are Good

Great service ,great food, nice overall experience! Just relocated to Lichfield and have tested most of the local Indians. We visited on a busy Friday night with my wife and 5 year old daughter and the staff were very accommodating. The staff made dish recommendations and even gave my daughter a free ice cream and sweet! I ended up having one of the special dishes which was really nicely spiced and tasted super good! Would definitely recommend !

We often have takeaway food from Here and every time has been delicious the staff are very welcoming and friendly and we cant wait until we can get a babysitter and go for a sit down meal its a hidden gem one of the best takeaways if not the best in and around where we live highly recommend

The food is average bordering on crap. The staff looked like they wanted me to leave half way through my meal. I was the last person in the restaurant at 21:30 on a Saturday evening and I had the shits by 22:30. Won't be going back!

Average food, poor customer service, and a shocking attitude. We ate here last night as a group of 7 celebrating my friend's birthday. Having pre-booked, we arrived at 7:30 and were shown to our table. The restaurant was busy enough for a Saturday night, but there was also plenty of staff around and only a dozen or so tables so certainly nothing unmanageable. Our drinks order was taken a good 20 minutes after we sat down, and it was another twenty minutes before they arrived. Our food order was finally taken at about 8:15, and apart from a few poppodoms, it was gone 9pm before we saw our mains. When I asked a waiter how long our food was going to be, what I got in response was a dirty look and '5 minutes' spat in my face without any explanation or apology for the delay. When the food did finally arrive, over an hour and a half after we sat down, the portions were definitely on the small size. I challenged the same waiter over this, and to his credit he did throw in an extra portion of rice free of charge, but did so begrudgingly. All of this, however, could have been overlooked if it weren't for what happened next. When clearing the table next to us, we noticed the manager drop a half-full balti dish on the floor right near to where my friend was sitting - instead of apologising or checking for any damage, he hastily cleaned up the mess and simply hurried off. A couple of minutes later my friend picked up her (not cheap) brand-new handbag - which had been draped over the back of her chair near where the curry was dropped - and sat it on her lap for a moment. It was then that she noticed that her bag was covered with greasy curry all down the side, which had now been transferred to her white shirt. We mentioned this to the waiter, who handed us some wet-wipes and left us to it - all without an apology. Unfortunately, as a good ten minute or so had passed since the manager dropped the curry, the grease had set into the bag and left a very noticeable stain which the wet-wipes were not going to solve. When it came time to settle the bill, we mentioned the damage to the bag and that they should probably make a decent contribution towards the cost of trying to get it cleaned. One of the waiters came back with an offer of £10 off a £100 bill, still no apology whatsoever, and words to the tune of 'it's a gesture of goodwill, most other places wouldn't offer you anything.' We didn't see this as anywhere near a suitable offer, but at the same time we didn't want to cause a scene. So we countered with £20 off the final bill, which we considered to be more than fair. Rather than this ending the whole ordeal, this prompted every member of staff in the restaurant - apart from the manager - to line up near our table and shout in our direction... 'Accidents happen...' 'But your bag was on the floor so we're not responsible...' 'I don't care about your bag!' 'But I gave you free rice!' They laughed at us, they mocked at us, they even threatened to call the police on us. The whole time the manager was walking around the restaurant, attending to every table except ours - he was specifically avoiding us. Throughout this we still had not received anything in the way of an apology! In the end we handed £80 to one of the waiters and left. We booked our table at The Bengal based on great past experiences. We were a respectful group who weren't drinking heavily and were prepared to spend a good amount of money with that curry house. Our food was an hour and a half late, and the manager managed to spill a curry all over my friend's handbag. When we argued that the restaurant should comp part of the meal, instead of an apology we were greeted with abuse and rudeness and the threat of the police, all the while with the manager refusing to get involved. Absolutely shocking customer service, I would not recommend this place to anybody.
