The Bay Leaf Luxury Indian Restaurant in Amber Valley

I ordered meals for 8 guests & was told it would be 1 hour 15 minutes. I turned up at The Bay Leaf after 1 hour. We were given the food immediately on arrival after paying £87.00 - we decided on a bottle of lemonade whilst there, whereupon I was charged an extra £2.50. When I got home, some food was missing from the order & worst of all, the meals were barely warm. So disappointed with their attitude & quality of food.

Cracking little Indian. Being a chilli head the 'Gurkha Revenge' seemed a no brainer, was spicy but flavourful. Friend had lamb rogan josh and sang its praises,. Naan bread was really tasty, Absolutely no complaints.

First time we have been here, and will definately return.

Ordered at 7pm on a Saturday night and was told to expect an 80 min wait which was fine. However 30 mins later the order was at my door! My cheese & Garlic naan bread had no cheese but it was still delicious so not going to cry about it. Overall the food was very tasty as always.

This is our family’s new fave Indian take-a-way. It’s not exactly local to us, 15 min drive, but we don’t like the Indian places in Ilkeston. The Bay Leaf has never let us down, the curries are normally really good and have decent meat. Sometimes when they are busy it can take a while, and there have been a couple of dishes that we haven’t enjoyed, but on the whole they’ve been good. Will be going there next time we fancy an Indian at home.

Yesterday, we ordered a takeaway to be delivered for a birthday. We usually go and eat in the restaurant. The food is always excellent as is the service and yesterday did not disappoint.

Yet another fantastic meal from Bay Leaf. Faz and his staff are always so friendly. We've never been disappointed and would highly recommend 💯

I came here for my mum's birthday. Whilst I liked it. I wasn't wowed. I didn't get any egg with my biryani which I was unhappy about. The food came out not very " Indian" all on plates & not many Indian bowls. The way they took our orders was very weird in stages. I found it strange. The food was nice but nothing special. But the price is good so you kinda get what you pay for I guess. The staff were very nice & friendly. Nothing was too much trouble but would like a bit more of an Indian experience & my egg with my biryani

Visited this evening for a 40th birthday meal 🎂 accommodated 14 of us, absolutely fantastic service from stat to finish. Food is top tier definitely our favourite Indian with fantastic prices. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 Thanks and expect us back again very soon.

Although we have takeaway every other weekend. It was my 40th birthday so we went in 14 off us, from the moment we walked through the doors we was greeted in a professional manner, by Faz and the young waiter. Everything was professional from the top down. The service was A*. Food was also A* the cleniness was A* the friendliness was also A* we all had a fantastic time and we ALL really enjoyed the food. The service from all workers was amazing and professional at all times. Overall it was A* the best restaurant around for thousands of miles if not the whole UK. Thank you again for hosting us and we all really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you all at BayLeaf 🫡

Accommodated 14 of us, food, staff, cleanliness was all top notch, definitely the best Indian restaurant we've been too and we've been to quite a few! Nothing was too much trouble, very friendly and again the food was amazing! Definitely be back, thank you :)

Just had to comment , food is always absolutely delicious, the service is 10/10 and this place is is the best around by far - they literally know my regular order as soon as i call and never fail to deliver within the timeframe - absolutely perfect every time

What a nice curry house with a very friendly owner who was happy to customise our food just how we like it and all of it was amazing. Lots of flavour and spiced just right. The tikka chicken was cooked perfectly and the sides were amazing too! Definitely a five star and we will be back next time we are working in the area 💯

The food used to be great. I don't know what's happened whether its a new chef or what, but the last 3 times the food has been terrible, even the takeaway.I hope they get sorted out

I just love the food here, not too keen on hot curries and they adjust the heat for me and they are very flavoursome without the heat.

We had a curry here last night, & for saying it was New Year’s Eve and super busy the staff were still very accommodating and the food still came out in a very reasonable time. The food was outstanding as always. Would highly recommend.

Seekh kebab starter was probably the best one I’ve ever had. Food was hot, tasty, and very delicious. Service was friendly, fast and extremely helpful. First time visiting and won’t be the last very reasonably priced hidden gem in Heanor

Really enjoyed a superb welcome with excellent food. There is plenty of space between the tables so you don't feel too closed in like in many restaurants.

The food great, but service was very slow. Had to attract attention after 30 mins to get poppadoms, then best part of an hour to get starter. 11 of us all enjoyed the food, which when it did come, was top dollar.

Wow, the best meal I've had in a long time. I had garlic fried mushrooms to start then Garlic Chilli chicken tikka for main with garlic fried rice and garlic and onion nan. Absolutely delicious well done Chef, I will certainly order this again.

We have just had one of the best Indian meals we have ever eaten. And that says a lot as we have had many in many places. The food was superb and the service is second to none. The original Bayleaf was taken over a year ago, and that was the best thing that happened for our town. We'll done Bayleaf, and congrats for becoming one year old.

We have had numerous delivery meals from the Bay leaf. Myself and the husband thought it was absolutely spot on food, really lovely until we had a meal just before Christmas. We phoned at 5.30pm for our order .. don't know what happened but the food when I arrived, it was absolutely awful, not previous high standards. The chicken tasted horrible and felt like rubber the rice was all congealed, the chips were cold & hard. It all just felt as my husband also agreed that it was warmed up food from the day before. It has really put us off going back here after we thought we had found a lovely Indian restaurant. ☹

Had a wonderful time here with a few friends last night! Had 4 dishes between us and all were perfect and was very reasonably priced. Service was what made it though. Didn’t catch the guys name but he was wonderful and very attentive. Excellent veggie options too.

Beautiful food, but not enough meat. We did book a later slot but felt rushed and wasn't offered a dessert. But like I say what we had was lovely

The food is amazing and when we arrived yesterday for our brother's birthday, poppadoms and chutney/pickle trays were already waiting for us on the table, so we didn't have to wait to order these 👌 Faz cannot do enough for you! Very quick service and would highly recommend.

Delicious indian food, I recommend the butter chicken which is made with tandoori chicken pieces - amazing, will definitely go back, possibly the best indian restaurant in the amber valley area

Best Indian restaurant in Heanor. Wouldn't order anywhere else. Excellent service. Quality, tasty and flavoursome food. They also tailor the spice to your own preference which is great.

Always consistent. Staff always very good. Been going there now for over 10 years. Excellent. First time we've been for 2 years. Now been taken over. Food still very good, dining room cold and the place was empty apart from 3 other diners. Not as good as the old Bayleaf. The staff were alot more attentive as well and seemed to care, seemed a bit false this time.

The staff are very warm and welcoming bay leaf has changed is decor last time me and my fella went in there was only me and him in their. Now its under new mangement the food is spot on and you can take your own alchol in there. Thank you to the bay leaf staff for being warm and welcoming to the customers👏

Ordered from here we got chicken tikka masala and lamb tikka masala. I ended up extremely poorly throwing up, stuck on toilet and passed out! Turns out I got food poisoning from the chicken! We will not be returning absolutely disgusting and takes far too long to arrive

We used to visit regularly but not for a while because the whole experience went off the end of a cliff. I am pleased to say the food has returned to its previous quality and I was very impressed with that. It still seems the takeaway service gets priority over sit-ins and the wait for the food is longer that it should be. The dropped stars are purely for the service. As well as waiting for the food, there was no service for drinks until prompted. There is no alcohol licence but we had bottles to open sitting on the table. I have to praise one staff member but I did not get his name. Despite the concerns above, he was running around doing most of the work. Orders, service, telephone orders and clean-up. There were two others there, whom we hardly saw.

Food was lovely and arrived quickly. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Decent prices and great service. Can't complain.

Pre ordered food at 5:30 pm on a wedenday for delivery specifically at 7pm. Now 7:30 no sign of food and rang the shop three times already. Third time they hung up on me. Money has been taken, will i even recieved any food and if I do will it be cold? Not good so far

Absolutely shocking 1st time experience, pre-ordered food at 11am for 21.00 and money was taken straight away. 17.30 came, received phone call to confirm order. 21.00 came no food, thoughts were they are busy, 21.45 came, thought I'd give them a call, lines busy. 22.20 came, lines still busy and no food, 22.25 got through to restaurant to be told they cancelled my order as they were to busy. After alot of negotiation they decided to bring the food. 22.45 delivery driver attempts to let himself in my house using the front door. 22.46 food stone cold. 22.47 phones restaurant we can do your food tomorrow!

Pre ordered food at 11.15am for 9.00pm they rang at 5.30 pm to confirm order... 9.00pm came and went... When we tried to ring after 25/30 mins lines was closed. Managed to get through to a company that deals with their complaints/refunds. To be told Bayleaf decided to cancel or order ..thanks for tell me glad I'm the 1st to know your too busy how when you can't be bothered to deliver beyond me .... First time ordering and last ...they also took the money when the order was placed... They said a refund has be refunded straight away and is back in the bank.... Think we all know this can take at least 24/48 hours....lest see how the refund pans out...

Excellent quality inexpensive food, especially on their twice weekly discount evenings.

Made our first order on just eat for the bay leaf, was given a 1 and a half hour wait time which we were fine with. It is now an hour and a half since we should have recieved our order (in total over 3 hours since we ordered) and we have yet to get our food! We have tried calling and messaging the restaurant with no luck! There is now no ring tone and it is saying the restaurant is now closed on just eat! Why except the order in the first place if you had no intentions of fulfilling it! There is no way of following up on our order and we are still trying to get a refund! Diabolical service and certainly not a great first impression. Wont ever be ordering again!

Update 22/11/2019: warning if you are ordering vegetarian via Just Eat - tonight is the 2nd time we have ordering samosas and stated vegetable, not meat, and the 2nd time we have got home and the samosas have been meat 😡. Spoke to the restaurant who could only apologise. Again, contacted Just Eat for a refund. Yet another fantastic meal from my favourite curry place. Great food, great service. What more could you ask for.

Have eaten here before and thoroughly enjoyed it so decided to call for a takeaway today. It was awful! Tough cold lamb in a cold passanda sauce. Threw most of it away as wasn’t prepared to go back to grumble.

From start to finish 5 star treatment, the staff are very friendly and take there time to speak to all of the customers and have a laugh with them. And the food is amazing it's the only curry house I'll use.

Really dissatisfied with bayleaf we've used this takeaway a few times, the delivery times have always been long but we've always waited and never moaned but this is the second time they have forgotten part of the order. When I rang to inform them they said they would send it out but it would take half an hour which I questioned as the food we'd already received would be cold before we got the forgotten part of the order. The guy on the phone said the delivery driver was extremely busy. An hour later and still not recieved the rest of the order. Will not be using bayleaf again, not only for this reason but the food was luke warm at best and very greasy too. Not impressed and absolutely no apology from the restaurant.

Excellent service and food, take your own beer. As they don't have a bar.

Was lovely food went for my husband's birthday really enjoyed it, it's bring your own alcohol but this is good because the bill is much better :). You can but mocktails and other non alcoholic drinks. Nice friendly staff. We have both takeaway and eat in depending on occasion we love both as it's fresh and tastes amazing either way.

Terrible Service. Ordered a meal for 9pm two hours beforehand but it came an hour late and Luke warm.

The food is always delicious, staff are friendly and the prices are ridiculously cheap. Even now I’ve moved away from Heanor, I still come back just for the Bay Leaf. Definitely would recommend 👍🏻
