The Barley Mow in Chesterfield

We had Sunday lunch here as we were staying nearby. As a party of nine we were asked to pay a £10 deposit PP and to order ahead which we all thought was fair enough. It meant the food arrived very quickly after our arrival which was ideal. The food itself was excellent. Portion sizes were generous, a kids portion would have fed plenty of adults. All meats ordered appeared well cooked, likewise the wide range of vegetables. Yorkshire puddings were properly made and the gravy tasted authentic. Everything was well seasoned. If we were staying in the area again we would definitely return, either for Sunday lunch or to check out the midweek offerings.

First time for me but it didn't disappoint, friendly staff and the atmosphere was enjoyable, will have to go back.

Great little town centre pub, nicely busy on the Sunday we visited for the Sunday lunches. My wife had the roast dinner and I had a fabulous steak pie. All good home cooking style food and very good. It is very popular and deservedly one of the best places for Sunday lunch in Chesterfield.

Ok not the best pub but ok non the same

I'm really sorry to say that our Sunday lunch experience here was terrible. We had been in week and had lovely sandwiches and chips so we were fairly confident Sunday lunch was going to be up to scratch. The beef was all gristle, the gravy needed a knife to cut it, the mash tasted frozen (it may not have been but it certainly tasted that way) when we mentioned it to the waitress she wasn't interested. It's a real shame because I always try and support local independent pubs but won't be returning.

Go here regularly with work colleagues. Good pub grub, cosy, traditional and cheap. Best chips ever!!

There Saturday, ladies on show...

Was exploring Chesterfield and came across the Barley Mow. Looked enticing from the outside, and the inside was a nice traditional pub with a warm welcome. A choice of three well kept beers, and an extensive menu. Had a Timothy Taylor Landlord and a Cheese and Jalapeño Panini - very tasty. The staff were very welcoming and efficient.

Very nice place and very nice food

Fleeting visit before seeing a show for a pint. Lovely lady behind the bar and plenty of regulars in. Shame the hand pull selection is a bit lacking, Farmer’s Blonde and Landlord aren’t the most inspiring of choices!

Great local pub with a good choice of drinks. Readable prices and really nice staff and very clean. We'll worth a visit.

Excellent lunch various baguettes and chips for £10 and all were excellent. Not used this pub for a long time but we'll be back before Xmas

The Christmas specials are now on the menu so tried the Christmas baguette with the turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing and cranberry sauce filling. Delicious.

My cousin and I had an absolutely wonderful time here today having Sunday lunch. The food was delicious and there was loads of it. I'm stuffed now!! The service was also impeccable. Thanks to Sarah particularly for being so accommodating. Would highly recommend this lovely little boozer.

Met friends for lunch everyone enjoyed their food, I had phoned the dat before to ask about gluten free, quite a lot to choose from but they went out and bought some gluten free bread specially really appreciated it.

This is a proper pub, Sunday food done well...I had the steak pie... when the meat just melts in your mouth! My dad n daughters Sunday lunches were spot on! Meat, veg, gravy everything cooked perfectly!

Didn't book but still fitted us in. By far the best burgers ever had in a pub. Real home made chips is an option I'd definitely recommend. Very friendly staff and brilliant value for money. Our new go to when in Chesterfield.

Im sure the guys will love this place. Barmaids has very little clothes on (Santa Suits) and were like something off love island. Decent beer at decent prices with good atmosphere. Ideal location also.. .

Staff are friendly and food is amazing for a small pub. Seating areas and plentiful and they show sky sports here which is a plus. Overall, very pleasing place to visit.

We've just had our family Christmas lunch here and the food was absolutely gorgeous. Massive portions, great friendly service from the young barmaid and fantastic value for money. We'll definitely be going here next year.

Good beers close to real time music venue

Amazing food and great service! The chips are the best in town and generous portion sizes. Only downsides are the burgers and other meats could do with seasoning but still lovely. It can get quite busy too so they definitely need to expand :)
