Goodness me...what a difference four months can make! On our previous visit, the varied menu was a pleasure and the food was superb, as was the service...what on earth has happened. The menu is now typical of any pub, and unfortunately, the food was decidedly poor. The steak was like a piece of leather, and the fries had clearly been recooked numerous times. The service was almost non existent. The lads seemed more interested at having a good time with their friends in the other bar. I had given recommendations to my friends to visit the Barley Mow...now I need to ring round telling them not to bother. Perhaps Thursday is not a good night to visit? Unfortunately, we won't be returning. 😪 Really disappointed.

A very lively, laughter filled pub. The locals were friendly and welcoming. Had REALLY great pasta dishes, absolutely gorgeous.

Despite the very unassuming appearance of the pub from the outside, the food exceeds all expectations. A lot of care was put into the preparation of all our dishes. Really glad we booked our one night's meal in Builth Wells at The Barley Mow.

The new people here took over in Feb 2023. We booked a table for 4 on a Sunday evening and we were ever so pleasantly surprised and impressed by the gorgeous food, cooked by Darla! The menu was great, we had Spaghetti Carbonara, Hunters Chicken, Irish Soda Bread with a fabulous dip made with Guinness (yummy)! We all also had homemade chips, which were the best I’ve ever had! To follow, we had Tiramisu and Sticky Toffee Pudding, which was also delicious (not sweet and sickly) but light and just the right amount of sweetness, not over the top..Again, the best I’d ever had! Darla was lovely, as was the family dog, called Loki, what a sweetie. The lovely chap behind the bar was very sweet and friendly, as were the other staff and also the local visitors. Great food, great prices, lovely people! My only regret is that I didn’t take any photos to post here, sorry! We’ll definitely be back and will make sure I take some and update my review.

Our golf group of 8 had a really tasty meal here yesterday. Dana the chef does a great job and clearly loves her cooking ably supported by her husband and staff who try hard. Don’t be put off by the decor - the food is excellent. Well worth a visit and reasonably priced too.
