The Baring Hall Hotel in Lewisham

Sadly closed during Lockdown Season 1 and has not reopened.

2021 Update: has such massive potential but is mismanaged my Antic. The grade 2 listed building has been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair. Antic have failed repeatedly to engage with the local community and update on the future of the pub. The complete eyesore of a beer garden is littered with broken vehicles. Such a wasted opportunity to create a decent beer garden for the community before they reopen. Antic have no interest in the community, protecting the building or running a decent pub. As a property developer they are only interested in building flats on the car park. Update: Baring Hall is now in a poor state of disrepair. Antic have done nothing to maintain the property during the epidemic and despite reporting maintenance issues with them they seem to have no interest in fixing the place up before reopening. The depressingly baron wasteland of a beer garden is a wasted opportunity for a decent space to socially distanced but they appear to have no interest in the local community and no vision in creating a quality experience. Incredibly poorly managed. I hope they turn their approach and lack of interest around. ——— Nice pub but doesn’t live up to reputation or quality of other antic pubs. Seems a little tired and it really needs new management to bring it up to scratch. Mediocre beer/ale selection (could be so much better) and food is really overpriced for what it is. £12 for a burger and £11.50 for a baked Camembert starter. Unfortunately the price doesn’t get you quality. The crispy squid was limp and soggy. The chunky chips were actually fries. No one eating there for lunch on a Saturday, completely empty, that should be a red flag for the manager. Anywhere else would take the hint and change something. Would love to feel like I could pop in for lunch, as I’m sure other locals would, but they need to rethink the menu, food quality and price points to fit the area and encourage business.

I went to this place with a group of people. Upon arrival I could see that this place was a bit delapidated as it needed several coats of paint. The food was good although they could have had more choice on the menu. There was only one choice of a vegetarian main. I had a mushroom and spinach Wellington which tasted nice.

Ok by looking at google it says that I’ve not been here to eat for roughly 3 months well the reason for that is because the chef that was here before left and when I did have a meal here after he was gone it wasn’t any good now I’ll eat anything in reason what I mean is I’m not shy from trying new things but what I really like is fish and chips in a tasty batter that means the fish should be fully coated in tasty batter that means no skin showing from the fish fully coated well today I decided to be brave and try the chef that was working today now the bar staff are always friendly and polite anyway I ordered my fish and chips that was all good then I was told that the batter would be very dark because the chef had decided to use Guinness with the batter well me being always ready to try something new said that would be okay I was a little bit weary well I mean it doesn’t come free who likes paying for something that might be no good but the truth is yes the batter was very dark but it had everything else going on it was crispy nice crunch to it when you cut it open and tasted real good the only thing is it might not be to everyone’s liking just because of the colour of the batter now I don’t know if he will keep it like this and I don’t know if that chef is permanent at the pub all I can say is if you get the fish and chips and they say that the batter is dark because of the Guinness don’t panic when you see it it does taste real good yes I know I took the first photo after I cut into the fish but hey can’t always be perfect so embrace new ways don’t be scared to try something that looks different from what your use to

Hemos cenado aquí dos veces y el asado fue excepcional en cada ocasión. Las papas asadas de ayer estaban divinamente crujientes, y después de haber elegido probar el pollo, me encantó descubrir que era tan sabroso como el cerdo que había consumido anteriormente. Mi amante tomó el último porro y distribuyó encomios similares: ¡bravo! Los postres de Yorkshire eran productos cómodos y la salsa saturaba mi plato como el Ganges empapando a un peregrino.También tuvimos la suerte de conocer a Digby, el perro más grande del mundo, que había elegido pasar su domingo por la tarde paseando por la taberna. We have dined here twice and the roast was exceptional on each occasion. Yesterday's roast potatoes were divinely crisp, and having elected to sample the chicken, I was delighted to discover that it was just as tasty as the pork which I had previously consumed. My paramour took the last beef joint and dispensed similar encomiums - bravo! The Yorkshire puddings were commodious fare and the gravy saturated my plate like the Ganges soaking a pilgrim. We were also fortunate enough to meet Digby, the biggest dog in the world, who had chosen to spend his Sunday afternoon sauntering around the tavern. My only (minor) complaint is the removal of the pork roast from the menu as this was a most splendid meal for any highwayman or dandy seeking repast.

We booked a sunday lunch for 8 people for my dads birthday and it was potentially the worst sunday roast I've ever had... the roast pork was pure fat, undercooked and inedible. We had to have all pork refunded. The chicken was dry, the roast potatoes raw - just awful. We'd eaten there in November and it was fantastic but the new chef is honestly awful...so so bad Management refunded us for 4 main meals at our request but didn't once apologise for the terrible experience. Sadly we won't return again.

This is my local and I come here frequently. It’s calm and nice and very friendly. Excellent service and good food. Today we ordered the halloumi pitta and it was one of the best things I have ever tasted in my life. I will dream of this meal and one day tell my grandchildren about it. Amazing balance of flavour, fresh, great textures. It’s absolutely perfect in every way.

Lovely pub food in a local location. And the price is good too.

Quiz night on A Wednesday. Good atmosphere, sensible prices and good staff. Could be busier.

Would be better if beer deliveries didn't block road and breach licensing conditions. Staff are friendly, beer tastes good.

This is a wonderfully querkie place. It was badly fire damaged years ago, but instead of doing a complete referb, the company decided to show the scars, as it shows the history of this family friendly pub. The staff are friendly & welcoming, and the chef cooks everything from fresh himself, he told me he even makes his own gravy from scratch! I can recommend a Sunday roast of beef and roasted vegetables, absolutely superb. Definitely worth a visit with friends and/or family.

5 stars might seems excessive but I struggle to mark this place down. It is my local so that probably makes me biased, though I don't visit particularly regularly. However, you can't help but find the Baring Hall's unapologetic dilapidated décor and relaxed staff charming. The menu has been a little hit and miss in the past, they seemed to be aiming for something more gastro than was really necessary but they seemed to have stuck a good balance now and I can say I was very pleased with my last visit. They always have a good selection of beers, nice ales and your standard largers. The staff are friendly, approachable and relaxed in their environment. My only request be that they open earlier some days in the week so I can pop in for lunch.

It's ok for a couple of drinks but is expensive compared to other pubs in the area

Small menu, but very good food!

This very metal looking pub (building has burned and they kept the walls & ceiling charred) sports some real gems food-wise! I should start by saying that we are VERY picky with our food. We love to cook ourselves and love great food - and this place is our friend through and through. The vegan sweet potato chili looked intriguing and it didn't disappoint, very savoury, balanced spices, my taste buds were completely satisfied. The star of our evening, however, was their absolutely amazing fish and chips, my new favourite! I've been to a few central pubs (south Ken) and they PALE in comparison. Also can recommend the halloumi starter. Deep fried cheese with honey, YUM.

A very interesting building. Had a severe fire from the wreckage is raising a Phoenix. We held a wake for 40 plus people. Excellent food with great service. We used the premises outside their normal trading hours at no extra cost

I like this pub because it's my local. It's a traditional and peaceful pub. We visited for a Sunday roast and the vegetarian option was good. I have had the burger in the past and I really enjoyed it.

Car parking available through the gates at the back of the Pub. Everything is dated the Pub in terms of deco, finishing etc. However its very cosy and comfortable. Good decent clientele. Great choice of beers and alcoholic bevarages. Tea and coffee to order too. I ordered a variety of sandwiches for my group... I have to give it an Excellent rating.. Both for freshness and filling. Staff are friendly and very accomadating. Location is excellent almost opposite the train station. I recommend.

I live around corner and mostly come here for a pint. Have been eating couple times with my family. Never have been disappointed. Food is good and reasonably priced, good selection of beers.

Love the Baring Hall Hotel, I regularly go here as a local resident. It's great to go out for a quick drink with friends and also to go out for a meal and for family gatherings. New manager, think his name is 'Raf', (sorry if I'm incorrect) is lovely, he always comes to check out food and drink is OK, is friendly and has done great stuff with the restaurant part of the pub, is always eager for feedback and asks for our opinions on things. They're a few new members of staff who seem really nice too, very attentive to customers and smiley, which is always nice. Food is fantastic and the chef is lovely too, always chatting to my 8yo SD and telling her she has a lovely singing voice (she doesn't stop). Live music on a Saturday, great pub quiz on a Tuesday and fantastic seasonal events. Hands down best pub for quality and value in the Grove Park / Lee area. Oh and you can bring your dog along too... And they have doggy treats!

Pros: decent pub, venue is rustic and spacious, quiet, food is okay, staff are friendly and approachable, close to station, music night on Saturdays Cons: Raf the manager is uptight and has little moral compass or filter and doesn't know when to stay out of people's business, toilets are filthy, pub is filled with a bunch of coke heads and you can see coke lines in the toilets sometimes which is ignored by Raf, predominately a man's pub so be prepared to feel uncomfortable as a female, occasional crack head walks in now and again, and it's mainly for locals, not a lot of young people. So your call!

A decent enough pub offering a nice variety of drinks and tasty bites to eat. The Baring Hall has a ruddy appeal from the fire years ago. Bar staff are nice enough, good humoured, all what you need from your friendly bar man or woman. We have hosted meetings here as well as normal social visit too. Worth a visit.

Only decent pub in the grove park area. Very quirky venue with a lot of history. Good vibe and solid range of beers. Live music at weekends is a great addition.

This pub burnt down a few years ago. Up to that point it was a dive. It reopened with the quirky idea of keeping some of the burnt bits and it works! It’s cool and the food is good. The staff are friendly and down to earth. Most important, it isn’t pretending to be something, so prices are good for the area. There’s a good range of beers and they’ve got pork scratching. In the winter they light a fire. All the good stuff.

Great Pub across the road from the station! Food is great! Little beer garden outside. And it’s dog friendly.

Nos trasladamos a la zona el año pasado. La comida era buena, nada demasiado aventurero pero de muy buena calidad y presentación a un alto nivel. El personal de cocina se han modificado recientemente, y después de dos experiencias muy mal con la comida hemos decidido darle una pérdida para comer. Lo que es una pena, ya que no hay mucho para elegir en cuanto a pub a poca distancia de nuestra casa. Espero conseguir de este viento de gestión ya que parece que no son los únicos que sentirse de este modo.

Great entertainment loads of quiz night and stuff

Fantastic food. Full of flavour and a good price. A range of ciders and beers on tap which are a cut above your Fosters etc. Live music on a Sat night which was worth a listen. The only downside was that it was reasonably quiet. Not sure why it's not packed!

It's a friendly lovely pub , not far from grove park station. Nice place to stop in for a quick drink and socialise with company but it's nothing special, I liked the quirky side of the place.

Had a fantastic night yesterday with great live music, absolutely amazing athmosphere and friendly staff. There is a good wine selection (we had lovely Merlo); the same with beers - everyone can find something for themselves, whether you like lagers or ales, etc. Pub is spacious and has unusual interior. Food is good - I had a Sunday lunch there once - good value for money, all tasty. Yesterday hand cut chips were a hit. I definitely recommend this pub. You will not regret your money spent there.

It was OK, close to a bus stop. But I don't know how good it really is, as we provided everything we needed for our party.
