The Angels' Share in North Hertfordshire

A fascinating evening in the coolest place around. Live music, people having fun...it's been too long.

Went for a Sunday roast and was disappointed when we ordered what was supposed to be a Sunday roast. Brocoli and carrots with black cabbage covered with slices of the most horrendous chewing gum beef. I actually couldn't swollow it. Everything was bought to us and piled up on top of each other and covered in gravy. First the veg, brocoli few slices of Carrott shredded black cabbage( tasted awful) and what looked like half a potatoe cut into four, then the chewy beef covered all this along with tons of too much gravy. On top was an enormous Yorkshire pudding which hid everything so you couldn't see the slop down the bottom. Didnt bother with any dessert, don't risk it. What an experiment

In the area and a friend was playing there that evening so went along, very friendly staff who made you feel welcome, would definitely return if in the area

Angels share is a beautiful vestige just a stones throw from the market square nestled in a lovely arcade which acts as a thoroughfare to the town center. Lovely little gem I happened upon during my travels to England! The proprietor who is called Harpreet is very welcoming & knowledgeable, there is a wide selection of liquors and the patrons are also very friendly. Fantastic wine bar with live music several evenings a week. Special evenings including whisky tasting with great food served. The Tapas are delicious! Every drink imaginable available and really good prices. Harpreet the owner is an excellent host and creates a warm friendly atmosphere. Large car park at the top of the Arcade is just a 2 minute walk ....taxis close by too!

The music drew us in when we were looking for somewhere to finish off the evening. Duo making sweet music at the angels share. The owner has a large selection of spirits and served up a delicious gin and tonic. Well worth a visit if you’re looking for a lovely way to spend a Sunday evening.

We so wanted this place to be great but the wonderfully genial Harpreet really needs to decide exactly what he wants the restaurant to be. Is it a bar, restaurant, both.? It’s really too small to be both in my opinion. The quality of the food is good but there’s not enough - or indeed any - choice available. The option of a la carte seems to have disappeared and you will be offered whatever has been prepared that evening. Service can be slow but and it was very cold in there the evening we went, one really feels that with an injection of money and a few ideas this place could be great. There’s only around 12 covers inside and more seating outside but obviously that’s not ideal in winter. I’d love the place to have a professional makeover, more staff are needed and more food choices available but there seems to be a loyal clientele to keep the business going which I’m glad of because he’s such a nice guy (which is why I’ve score so high). Perfect for a small private party I’d say..

Tucked away in the arcade this is a real hidden gem in the heart of Hitchin. We went on a Friday night and had an amazing curry. So fresh and tasty. We also enjoyed some fantastic live music. To top it off Harpreet was a great host, really welcoming and great personal touch. Will definately go back...highly recommended. Thanks Harpreet for a lovely evening!!

An excellent selection of fine gins served with the correct accoutrements. Followed by a smashing chicken curry. Highly recommended!

Have been a few times now, usually a Friday or Saturday when there is generally live music playing, and the impression is the same - relaxed, friendly, attentive service, lovely Indian Tapas, good selection of cold (lager) beers, wine and spirits - whiskey, rum, you name it. Fantastic spot in the arcade just ideal on a warm evening.

Very good Tapas prepared by the Owners wife. Live music often at week ends, outside in good weather....always a good standard. Very relaxing atmosphere, strongly recommend it !

Love this place. Harpreet and his wife are so friendly and attend to your every need. Excellent selection of whiskies and the food is to die for! We had the pleasure of an amazing live band when we were there too. Small but perfectly formed! Can't wait to go back

It always amazes me just how lovely, thoughtful & caring the owner is in this place, Singh who goes out of his way to give top 1st class service and gives special attention to every-one. There is often fine entertainment in the exquisite "al fresco" seating area with heat lamps above. The carefully laid out tables and chairs are an honor to sit and you can enjoy many a good whiskey or bottle of wine.

Great food and ambience , great for a night with friends, family good live music always. Really a little gem in Hitchin!!!!

My 4th whisky tasting and I enjoyed this one just as much as the others. Fine whiskies, a very friendly host and the Indian meal at the and of the evening was delightful as always.

Live music week ends, sometimes in the week also but closed Monday and Tuesday Great atmosphere, good food,,wines, whiskys etc

Little gem of a bar/Tapa restaurant hidden down the back streets of Old Hitchin Town.Owner is a lovely bloke with a knowledge of Whiskey second to none!Music regularly and three delicious Indian Tapas for £10 cannot be beaten.HAPPY DAYS

This is great place if you like good live music, always a great scene going on, good Indian tapas served at really reasonable prices and a good venue for parties and meeting up with friends. The wine prices are reasonable although it's a bit hit and miss on what's behind the bar, a bit of a lucky dip sometimes! Love Harpreet, he's the main man! :D

We got attracted because of the live music. Very friendly bar man n food was average with no much variety. We got our selves n enjoyed thoroughly.

A visit here is a must! Really friendly buzzing bar with live music outside on the weekends that draws in all ages. Perfect way to spend a summer evening!

Always a great smiley service from one of the most charming guys around town. Live music outside makes it a lovely place to spend summer evenings.

First Wednesday of the month. .been 4 times now..always 5 fabulous whiskies to try from a knowledgeable whisky man Harpreet. .usually a couple of cask strength and aged. No lectures or advice. .everyone just mingles and takes whisky at their own pace, their own journey. All the time Pridi, his partner, is upstairs preparing a fresh authentic curry which always rounds the night off.The glendronach 18 port finish was too good and we had to go back for more.Great night great company Book in advance. .

A great little find! Amazing food and a great selection of whisky. What else could a girl ask for on her birthday? Live music and a great customer service? Oh it has that as well!! I will definitely be going back and introducing this little gem to more friends.

They call it "brunch" - an Indian breakfast, with soup, potato curry, fresh bread and coconut chutney. Or you can have tapas - two from their menu, with bread. In both cases you get a drink as well, and all for a fiver. Very high quality food and a host who really understands it and enthuses about it. Most dishes are vegan and the bread with brunch is gluten free.

Talented Singer on an acoustic guitar, Sam Lewis got our attention and dragged us up a back street to someplace we probably would never have found.This is a very small but busy Indian tapas type business. All the beer is bottled and not that cheap BUT ! The atmosphere was excellent, the food looked great and I Sikh indian who I presumed owned or managed it was the nicest chap I had met that night. Wide and varied range of people in there and this created a good atmosphere. Outside heaters were a god send and if it had not been for the rest of our party having to be elsewhere I would have stopped a lot longer. The toilets upstairs and are VERY BASIC but this is a very small, old building so be sympathetic to that and you will enjoy your night here. Massive choice of whiskeys on sale and the prices reflected the ages respectfully. Being a big whiskey fan this would have been my Mecca but being a tight northern monkey I couldn't see the sense in trying several different whiskeys at £7.50 a shot. Maybe one day !!!Will look out for the Sam Lewis chap in future. Made a good night better. Well done to all

Very clever Indian tapas wine bar! Great for early /late evening. Shame that more substantial meals are not available, yet?wonderful live entertainment . Will be going back, but will eat first.

Went here for a friends anniversary party and was pleasantly surprised. It's quirky. The tapas was the highlight - really great and not the run-of-the-mill indian. Service friendly and welcoming. Live music was excellent.

What a wonderful little place this is. I shared a drink and some tapas sitting outside with some friends on a Saturday afternoon. The service was friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, the masala chai was lovely but served in a very small cup. My friend asked for a lime soda and got a lovely drink made with fresh limes and lots of ice. Will definitely go back for more. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely night out here, sitting outside, listening to live music, eating Indian tapas drinking wine. Perfect! The food was excellent, although some a little spicy for me (I'm a wuss!), and we were so pleased to see a wide vegetarian selection. If not already on there, I'm going to make sure the Angel's Share is also listed on the vegetarian restaurant website Happy Cow. :) One thing that made us laugh was the variety of wine glasses. I didn't see any table have all matching wine glasses which was funny for a wine bar! We'll definitely be back.
