Lovely food, good size portions

We've always wanted to visit this pub and finally we did. So glad, well worth the wait.

It's been 1 year since I last visited here and I was disappointed this time compared to before. I preferred the food last year as the menu has changed. I think the food is overpriced for what you get

Just called in for a meal, about 2.30 in the afternoon, it was empty there , I'm always weary about quiet pubs as it makes you wonder why they're empty but put it down to the time of day Any way picked two meals off the 2 for £20 menu, sausage and mash and beef chilli Chilli was ok. Sausage and mash was 3 Iceland or Aldi frozen sausages and packet mash so not great Had two drinks Diet coke and a large glass of sauvignon A LARGE GLASS OF WINE £11.20 DAYLIGHT ROBBERY

Lovely place with great views. Good food. The waiter is an asset to the pub. He is always friendly and helpful. Great in the summer for sitting outside.

Great place to eat and chill the food is superb and plenty to enjoy we had the hunters chicken 5 star

The food and service were great, unfortunatly and not thier fault at all, placed next to a table with young children that were loud. Only reason I have dropped atmoshere score, great food, great staff, and well worth a visit. I will visit again very soon.

Food was insane seating was instant but there is the option to book! I recommend the cheesy garlic bread and the bbq chicken 👌

Had lunch my husband had egg gammon chips peas and batters onions gammon was so grease chips cold peas cold batter on onions was full of grease my husband orders the same for me because they did not have lamb that I ordered there asked if I could change mine the answer was no that was within 2mins food was disgusting will not go there again manager did not even bother to come and se us. Never ever go there .

Loved it! Driven past lots of times and not been in, so this time we booked a room and stayed the night. Small but had all needed for an overnight stay. Sadly, the shower wasn't the best, but that wouldn't put us off staying again. The food was so good we went back the next day for lunch. If you drive past, don't be put off at how busy outside looks, ( which is what we've done in the past) they have plenty of room inside and a separate bar for us dog lovers, with a treat jar on the bar and snacks to buy for them too.

Pub was nice and the staff were very friendly and good, but the food wasn't very good. The burgers were cheap quality and the cow pie was just a few bits of meat in a gravy, veg was bland and soft. It looked great, but the quality just wasn't there. Shame

So, living just around the corner from this beautiful Inn and not having visited since it was taken over by hew Management, I was quite dubious about booking here for our 'girls' catch up! We only manage to arrange two or maybe three times a year so always go somewhere in Porthcawl, where the majority of us live. From my initial contact, via email, nothing was too much for the wonderful staff of The Angel. So accommodating and friendly - when we arrived we were greeted by 2 really smiley young ladies and taken to our table. One of our party had to cancel last minute but this wasn't an issue at all. Initially 2 of us were there waiting for 2 more, and our Server, Ruby, was attentive to our needs (which are quite specific when it comes to ordering our drinks - and that's just to start). So she had great knowledge when we asked about which lager was on draft, especially describing and comparing one type we hadn't heard of before and getting it spot on! Then the Wine List and to say we were faffing about which to order would be an understatement) but Ruby asked us a few specific questions about what type of wine we like and brought us a stunning bottle of red. We were really impressed with the quality, it was delicious and we were surprised to find out it was The House Red! Our other 2 friends arrived and because we hadn't seen each other for over 6 months we had so much to catch up on and all the staff were brilliant when they came to take our orders and we hadn't even looked at the menu! Giving us more time. Anyway, the food was delicious, the lamb with minted gravy was the best I've ever tasted and the staff were so great with each of our specific requests (getting a lush Yorkshire pud and stuffing with the lamb and a yorkie with all the dinners even though none were beef). The dessets were amazing and yet again the kitchen catered to all of our individual whims! A massive thank you to Ruby and all the staff who looked after us - we will be back for our next 'girls' lunch (sorry lol!!!!)

Rang to book a table on a Saturday evening for 4 people about 3 weeks ago only to be told that the kitchen closes at 8pm ! Pity , because on previous visits we've had enjoyable meals here. Had to book elsewhere. Why close the kitchen so early during peak trading periods?

Great place to Dine after visiting the nature reserve with the dogs . There's always a great pint of beer 🍺 and pub grub available.

Although it was quite empty as it was late afternoon on a weekday we were made very welcome and the service was excellent. We ordered from the lower priced menu priced at £15 for two main course meals. We weren’t expecting anything special but were pleasantly surprised. The food was good and freshly prepared. Very friendly service from Chloe ( apologies if I got that wrong).

Disappointed with my recent experience at The Angel pub in Mawdlam. Booked a table for 12 people weeks in advance, only to find out tonight when I rang to confirm food choices, that if one person ordered from the Christmas menu, everyone else on the table had to also...even though the standard menu was also being served that night. Apparently, we could order differently if we sat at separate tables.🤔🤔 Talk about lack of business acumen! 😩Such a shame as we were really looking forward to our family get-together. Hoping this feedback reaches the owners and they reconsider their policies. #CustomerMatter #CustomerService #RestaurantExperience

Called in early afternoon, nice pint and a clean feeling to the place.

Good food, slightly on the expensive side, but pleasant staff and much better since the new owners have taken over.

Very cosy little place. Food is above average and very well presented but not necessarily worth travelling to if you're wanting to go somewhere specifically for a good meal. Atmosphere is very calm and chill and the staff are friendly and attentive. An excellent place to meet up for a catch up with friends. Outdoor eating area is well presented and clean.

Wonderful to sit outside in a hot sunny day

Very disappointed as before COVID it was excellent.But first time back since and very disappointed with all aspects of the place.

Lovely pub, with some lovely food and a amazing view and place to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, great for a stop after a long day walking around the dunes. We ordered a burger and chips and it was delicious and very filling.

Possibly the worst £35 I've ever spent on food. Had a selection of starters for a platter. Pate was a horrible mush with accompanying bread hard as stone, belly pork under cooked and was like chewing gum, lamb skewers bland but not hated, tart was a microwave delight... Not once did the staff ask if food was ok, or even clear our plates in 30 minutes after eating. Overall, shambles.

Unfortunately change of menu, not for the better, also change to choice of beer, again not for the better. Price's have also increased, not sure we'll be going here as often as we used to.

Best pub curry I have had in a long time

Just had a Sunday lunch, would have done the three course's but the first two course's were more than enough, our new place to go to, friendly, professional staff, and nothing to much trouble for them, we would more than highly recommend, best wishes be groovy cheers Kerry

My father really enjoyed his prawn starter and sausages main. The staff were very attentive to his accessibility needs too. The building is good for access with parking near and no steps into the premises. However, there is a very big step up in to the dining area. There is an accessible ramp but its quite a squeeze past the other customers. The new decoration is lovely and it's perfect for a nice lunch as a treat. I would like to see an alcohol free stout available (they only had lager).

Good service, minor complaint promptly and efficiently dealt and bill adjusted without fuss. Good value for money. Splendid landscape views from windows and car park.

Dropped in on the off chance because the Prince of Wales, down the road, said they were full. Are we glad that happened!!! Have been going to this pub, now and again, since the late 1980's, and, what we found, was a huge upgrade in what we have experienced before. New refurbishment, we had superb food and good staff. It's not the cheapest pub food you'll see - but it was far superior to anything we've had locally. So it was worth it. Everything on my Gourmet Burger plate was high end restaurant quality. Highly recommended.

After hiking all day this is just what we needed. The food was delicious!

Hubby and I had 2 fantastic meals here this evening. Thoroughly recommend rib eye steak myself. Hubby had cow pie absolutely stunning. Quick service too despite being very busy. Will defo be back.

We had trouble booking as we couldn’t get through on the phone, but having taken the decision to wing it, we’re glad we did. The staff member (unfortunately I didn’t get his name) ensured we were seated and got our food order in before a large group, so there was no major wait at all, and the food which came out was great - large portions, great taste, and we left feeling very satisfied. Couple this with the historic building and the scenic location (well, if you look in the direction of Kenfig Dunes/the church and not the M4, this is well worth a visit.

Had lunch there today. Food was excellent, as always, as was the service. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and made us feel welcome. Lovely pub in a lovely setting

2 for £15 lunch menu or main menu both worth a look at. Met at the door and sat immediately. Great service and great food. I had meatballs ( about a dozen) on linguine in spicy tomato sauce with melted cheese on top with garlic bread. DH had belly pork with veg and mash. Mash was a bit dry- maybe instant? But everything else gorgeous.

Very good real ale here and the food is good too. I like the dog friendly in the bar.
