Another wonderful Samuel Smiths pub. Entering this pub is like stepping into a sepia photograph. It really is like going back in time. Add to this the policy of no digital/electronics and you have a magical pub. I fit one love it.

I went to the Angel after an LUFC game with a male friend, as Paula, and was treated impeccably by the staff and clientele. Plus, the beer was gorgeous 🍻😁🏳️‍🌈

Probably the most depressing pub in Leeds centre

This is the worst pub I’ve ever been to in my life. It’s dirty, silent and the clientele stare you down as soon as you walk in. My friend ordered a couple of pints and the bartender mimicked her order back to her in a high pitch. What reason is there to do this other than treat us with total contempt, presumably because we were a group of women. The aggressive signage around not using phones is so boring and tired - this isn’t the 1930s. Additionally the toilets were in a shocking state. Avoid like the plague.

Like to go through your bags and take stuff out and keep it if you value your stuff don't go in there

Good. Dark Mild £2.20 a pint. Not bad. Like a poor man's Guinness. A lot less people in during the daytime especially outside in the summertime though. Better on a night.

Brilliant pub with warm open fires and a great welcome, plus it is not as expensive as most city centre pubs.

Horrible clientele. Anyone just coming in for a drink is going to feel intimidated.

If you're looking for a very traditional pub with no background music and a decent selection of beers then you'll probably like this place! It's not quite as characterful as some other traditional pubs, though, the decor is slightly bland but tasteful and traditional. There is an open fire in the bar area, which is a nice touch. The only downside is I'm not a huge fan of the owner of Sam Smith's brewery, who has a reputation for not treating his staff well, so I have mixed feelings about supporting his company. But you can't deny he does traditional pubs very well and makes good drinks!

Possibly the worst pub I’ve ever been to. Walked in and the smell of the toilets hits you immediately. Extremely rude woman behind the bar who got angry when I pointed at a beer I thought my friend would like, and was irritated when I pulled out my Apple Pay to pay for a drink. I get the whole no phones thing but do you want me to pay for my drink or not? None of us even finished our drinks before leaving, will never be returning

A special special pub. Pints for less than £2.50 and it's a lovely drop. A real pub.

Had a surprise 70th birthday.Food was brilliant, staff was excellent couldn’t do enough to please. Would like to that all staff for making my birthday afternoon & night to remember.

Beer was off, toilets require waders. Awful.

Beer prices here are great, about £3 per pint which is a struggle to find in Leeds. The selection isn’t bad either a couple of their lager choices are good. They don’t allow children of any age in the pub, you can sit outside with them weather permitting as it’s not sheltered. Also there’s no tech allowed in them, so you don’t get phone signal in there. There’s some characters that go here and plenty of people that look to have been on it all day.

Easily missed from the main precinct, located down a narrow alley this sam smiths pub is well worth a visit. Selling their own well kept ales and largers . Draft ales are priced very reasonable, but bottles are expensive. If you fancy a break from the bustle of the city, give this place a try.The only negatives are the silly no mobile phones rule, and the foul smelling gents loo.

They do now accept card and the fruit beers are a treat. Could be cheaper. Would've liked some music to add to the atmosphere but understand the rules of a Sam's smiths pub

Back street pub, old style. Two floors.and quite nice inside.

We really enjoyed our visit . The staff were friendly and the ale was excellent. They even had a cider my wife liked” bonus” lol. Oh! and Excellent value for money.👍👍 We hope to see you again soon. Another one of Leeds hidden gems. Regards Mark & Claire

Great prices and a unique ambience, no phones, no swearing!

One of the best hidden pubs in Leeds, Manager Chris is a great asset to the pub, serving up great ales and lager, the Organic Pure Brew is very well kept and is the best out of all Samuel Smith Pubs in Leeds City Center.

A good old-fashioned and traditional pub in the heart of Leeds, up an alley. It is cash only, and you will definitely be asked to come off your phone if you're using it - it's a tech-free zone! Reasonable prices and a refreshing break from the samey-ness of all of the many cocktails bars.

They have various rules in place (as all Smiths pubs)….however I was asked not to use my ‘phone yet a lowlife stood at the bar and every second word was the ‘F’ word and he was not asked to stop swearing (which a sign over the bar says is banned?). Were they afraid to tell him? Who knows, but it has put me off going in there again despite good beer and prices.

Pub was almost empty and dead Not surprising. It was like being in a 19th century pub. So many restrictions. One of the attractions of Sam Smith's pubs was the cheap prices. Not any more the last rise in prices was £1.20 a pint.

Located down one of Leeds city centre's famous side streets. Always a great place for a conversation with friends. The staff are friendly, helpful and chatty. The beer is nice (Sam Smith's pub) and unbelievably cheap!

The place was nice, good places to sit and chat and they had a fire going near the bar. The reason why I gave three stars is because one of the bartenders made me and my friends uncomfortable so we left when we finished our drink

It's Sam Smiths so no fun and limited drinks range. If you drink on price it's ok but is it worth it?

It's a Sam Smiths pub so cheap and cheerful. Whatever you do, don't get your phone out!

A Sam Smith's house. Looking fresh after lockdown. Still no electronics or swearing allowed. No music either. But in fairness, it does work. But the best bit....they have tap and pay! Yay! I know, but this is a big thing for Sam's, cash only for years. Now there's no need to wander the streets looking for a cash machine.

Just before Christmas. Full of well behaved people who appreciate their beer in a olde worlde building. A cracking pint of Sam's, which I always enjoy and at £3 a pint !! This is Leeds City centre? It's a no mobile pub but it's on two floors, so Humphrey's rules can't be regulated all the time.

cash only - this is a sam smith pub!!! very cheap and good vibes from bar staff and other customers. didn't realise that angel inn is a sam smith pub which means (allegedly) no singing, no phones or tech, and no cards etc however the bar staff do not seem super strict in enforcing this which i was thankful for (especially when texting a friend to make sure i was in the right place, they either did not notice or gave a blind eye). the bar staff are really friendly and welcoming and the pub is a beautiful old 17th century building tucked behind a tiny alleyway. beautiful exposed beams, original wood serving bar and standard pub furnishings. quite busy downstairs but very quiet upstairs which is perfect if you want to catch up with friends. definitely worth a visit if you are in the area - only £3.50 for a vodka lime soda!!

Great city centre Sam Smiths pub up an alleyway off Briggate. Decent pint of Old Brewery nice place to go and relax upstairs away from the hubbub of other town centre pubs. Typical Sam Smith rules not for everyone but, hey, you should know that by now 🙂.

The decor and carpets have seen better days, but you really can't fault this place for the great staff and cheap, tasty beers. I also love the "No Technology" rule - but the "No Foul Language" rule can be a bit unfair sometimes.

Best pub in town. If you can't find it, unlucky.

Great pub I actually visited last July 2021 but I'll be end of this month not my people but without phones etc its a gem lovely friendly guy behind the bar think it's name os dan been there for 20 years each time he remembers me im based down south so don't get to go up much

Great Samuel Smith's pub, tucked away from the busy streets of Leeds. Also with it being a Sam Smith's. You can actually talk to the people you are with rather than shout over the music. Use of electronic devices isn't permitted either

I’ve been going here for over a decade. I went here again yesterday and it was very quiet which is not surprising as it was a Tuesday night, but the bar man (who has been there for many years) simply ignored me. I said please and thank you; but with zero response, in fact the only words he said were the price of the beers, it was just bizarre. By the time that we left, I had gone from feeling upbeat to deflated. Not a good atmosphere like it used to be. I’ll not bother going into the city anymore for a drink, plenty of nice pubs at home in Guiseley, with far more friendly bar staff.

Like all Sam Smith's pubs, ok for a pint. Good beer but offers little else. Just drink up and move on to somewhere livelier. Close early too!

A very rare find in a city like Leeds, with its great period features and a general ban on the use of mobile phones. The room upstairs is great to kick back in pretty comfy chairs, watch the fire and catch up with friends, without the noise and expense of the newer bars. A couple of pints for less than £6 is an absolute bargain as well!

The angel Inn Leeds a Sam Smiths pub based in the centre of Leeds. A big pub with its bar in the tap room wich is small but it has a larger room just across the tap room. It also as 2 big rooms upstairs wich is ware I sat.plus a large outside seating area. It's got a wide range of drinks lager,bitter, and spirits I was disappointed that they no longer served my favourite drink sovereign wich is a shame its a great drink.no music or mobile phones allowed. That all been said not a bad experience but I won't be going in again for another 2 years I'm afraid Sam Smiths is really going down hill

Loved this pub. It is cash only, but the bar staff were happy to provide the drinks and keep my wife as collateral while I nipped to the cash machine! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff and patrons. Love it here, will be back next time I'm in Leeds. A great escape from the madness that is Briggate

Attempted to have a drink in this pub Thursday 16th around 7pm, wasn't acknowledged at the bar just looked at 3 times whilst the lady on the bar was serving everyone else. Decided to leave as 3 other men were served before us, (looked to be regulars as she knew their order). Reasoning for leaving as the three men came into the pub after us yet they were acknowledged and served before us. Not great customer service. Probably wouldn’t return after this occasion.

Nice unique layout with old fashioned separate rooms so plenty of options to sit apart or with groups when not too busy rather than large, often noisy, open plan. Draft fizzy drinks are not very nice, very poor quality. £17 for two pints, one double vodka and coke and 2 bags of crisps seemed expensive but it is in a city centre so that's probably why. Cash only bar is not convenient. Staff were nice.
