A nice place for meetings, interviews or relaxing. It usually has a calm atmosphere. The staff is very polite and attentive. Thank you for that. I like it here.

Genuinely looked forward to visiting this place as it looks really cool with the posters and lights. Went to the first time tonight. Proper rubbish staff. Condescending after making them aware of a guy that was aggressive to women in the street. Coked up and pass agg customers. What a shame.

Great place for pizza and drinks. A pint is just under £6. Fantastic shaded beer garden at the back.

Sorry but this isn’t the one, the food is microwaved, had a really bad apple crumble £7 which just wasn’t cooked properly. The staff were not friendly or helpful and the atmosphere inside wasn’t great.

Music on a Saturday is brilliant, DJ is Great!! with certified bangers!!, security brilliant and friendly. Overall fantastic experience and would highly recommend!!!

General vibe was quiet when I went but the roast was quite nice and a decent price. It came with some cranberry sauce which was a nice change from the usual spots!

I celebrated my 30th here and it was awesome. Great food, arcade games, live music etc. I could spend many days in here.

My first time going. Not gonna lie it was great. Love the nostalgic old skool photos of old movies. Gone with the wind n Danny Devito in the loo. So good. Very large space. Full staffed bar. Ur not waiting ages for service. Great dj banging out the chunes. Can't go wrong.

Sticky toffee pudding is poor. Mulled wine is horrendous: far too heavy on the cloves, far too light on the wine... Otherwise cracking pub!

Amazing decor and vibe, which was very unique. Service was friendly, but rather slow (food took over an hour to come out and some of the orders were mixed up or slightly wrong. Waitress also kept trying to clear our table before our food had arrived). Food was a big serving but very average. The Yorkshire pudding was cold, dry and slightly burnt/overcooked. Vegetables were overcooked and soggy. We got the Christmas special for the roast, which we were told came with Brussel sprouts and stuffing. We were incredibly disappointed when the beef roast came and the stuffing was a tiny falafel sized dry ball (see yellow circle in photo) and there were no sprouts - but at this point we were so hungry that we gave up and ate. Mulled cider was both very sweet and very bitter (extremely strongly clove flavoured)

Had a fab time on Saturday night! The bar staff were really helpful especially considering how busy it was! Georgia was very smiley and quick, and Albert had the show under control and was very accommodating! I wasn’t very hungry so I just got the calamari - it was peppery and fresh! Music by the DJ was filled with some big singalongs that got everyone very very merry! Thank you Alma team!

Even after 5 years living in London, easily top 3 best pubs in the city for me. Selection of beers, service and awesomeness of décor inside are unmatched. Super chill place and perfect example of british pub. With a twist. I love this place so much.

I went in this place with the Mrs and it has the same name as my grandmother. I drank a 0% Guinness here and I liked it.

This is one of the greatest pubs in London. Decent indoor and outdoor space, cool decor, djs/live music most nights and you get served pretty quick, even when it's busy. The bar staff are lush and there's always a good atmosphere!

Sunday afternoon crowd watching football made it noisy but staff was very friendly and tried to find a table away from the speakers as we were not interested in football. Nice atmosphere.

🚇 Canonbury 🍺 £5.40 Becks Vier ❤️ A fantastic movie themed N1 boozer. . The Alma is located in Newington Green which is halfway between Highbury and Dalston. The nearest station is Canonbury which is a gentle five minute walk away. . The Alma was built mid 19th century along with the Victorian terrace it nestles in to. The exterior of the pub is simple but elegant, the paint is a deep blue and the orange awnings add a splash of colour. Inside, the decor here is a film buff’s dream. Around the walls are posters, neon signs and even life size models from the most famous films ever to grace the silver screen. You will find yourself gazing around the pub trying to name the films and actors. The bar area is in a “U” shape with lots of comfy low level seating including a couple of cinema seats. There is a large TV screen if you fancy catching a live premiere league game. . The beer line up has a bit of something for everyone but no cask options. I had a pint of Becks Vier which you don’t see too often, my pint was excellent and reasonably priced. The food menu is a mix of British classics and tasty pizza’s. On my first visit here, my Daughter and I took advantage of the 241 deal and we really enjoyed the food. If you visit on a Sunday then sumptuous roasts are the order of the day. The service was good, the lady who served me was lovely. . The atmosphere was relaxed and chilled on Saturday lunchtime with a few locals in attendance. While I was here I watched a bit of Leicester v Palace game along with a few others. This pub has lots going on to keep you entertained, throughout the month are live band’s nights, DJ sets and jam sessions, check out their Insta for updates. . @thealma_n1 is one of those pubs that you immediately feel welcome and at home in. The decor here is brilliant and creates an atmosphere of familiarity and intrigue. The beer and food are bang on and the entertainment will give you something to talk about the next day. First time I hav been there with friends who treated me 2 a lovely lunch an dessert chocolate brownee with ice cream. For my birthday which was Saturday.

Saturday night is the night. Pretty much every year for the past 7-8 years (except COVID years), we've had the delight of enjoying this place. With loud music, great bar staff and dancing space later on in the night - it's an instant hit for the area. It's not a trip to the area without going here now 😂

I attended a friend's funeral Reception at The Alma on 01/11/2022 the vibes were nice the place was packed. I was served relatively quickly I ordered a pint of Stella Top; it was ok. I ordered my second drink which was the same and was given a large Gin & Tonic, I had to explain what I had ordered and then I got it. I put that one down to the music being loud. I later ordered the same pint and got it with lime instead of lemonade I noticed this as it tasted different. I let that go, I bought a Brandy and coke for a friend was just about to pay for it when I saw the price £9.70p I was shocked and asked why's that? he said it's a double. I said I never ordered a double and he sorted it. The next time I ordered a pint I was just about able to call the Bartender and stop him from putting Lime in it instead of Lemonade. Later my pal bought me a Brandy no ice I had one sip of it and whilst taking pictures someone took the remainder of it and done a runner or something. After explaining to a few bar staff as I didn't see how it disappeared what had happened I was given a Brandy full to the Brim with COKE, I allowed it. As the night ended for me the last drink for the road, I ordered for me and a pal slipped from the bartender's hands and ended up all over my Trousers, shoes and all over the bar, well I asked, "how much is that then?" Do y'all think I drink too much...???

Very rude (white) barman today spoiled the atmosphere of what is normally a nice pub to visit. After numerous attempts to call to book a table he finally answered with a grunt of a 'hello' and told me to book online. This I did, but got no confirmation, and when we arrived he hadn't recorded our reservation in the diary. His attitude was completely indifferent and was the same to the other customers. Its a pity when a good pub is ruined by one member of staff.

Great night out for a pub with unreal atmosphere

Came in here for the first time after a birthday meal out. I was with some friends and my husband. and despite it being very busy and lively, we managed to find a table. we found out that it was a sister pub to the bebopalula further along green lanes and you can tell as the decor is pretty much the same except all the wall adornments and pictures are all from the eighties whereas the bebop is all fifties style. the atmosphere was electric and the music was brilliant, again, mostly eighties music which was right up our street. the drinks were similarly priced to bepod and decent range of drinks and bar food on offer with plenty of mid week deals. it seems like we have discovered a new local that we might consider coming back to that's even better than its sister venue. well worth a visit oh and to top it all, it's very lgbt friendly so it's a safe space.

Nice Theme to the pub. Went for my niece birthday. Not impressed with Ladies Toilet one wasn't flushing properly and the other one no lock on the door.

A fun and lively pub that had live Irish music which kept everyone going. Went with a group of friends and had an enjoyable time. Enough of a variety on type and various wines to choose from. Didn't wait too long for a drink either which was great.

We arrived at the Alma hungry and thirsty quite late on a Sunday evening. Thankfully the kitchen was still open. We ordered drinks, roast lamb and the jerk chicken burger. We left completely full and satisfied . Friendly staff, great food. Happy customers. Job done !

Food has gone down hill massively New manager is very unprofessional and rude and made me feel very uncomfortable used to have such a warm and welcoming vibe now just seems very impersonal such a shame as i did really enjoy this pub now I’ll be going bebop

A bit too crowded on the weekend, so make sure your book your slot. It’s a local’s favourite. Helpful staff. Quick pourers, good selection, pretty good general vibe.

Pub is cozy. We were there in the evening and it was therefore full. They have a friendly bouncer. The walls are full of film clips. That's the theme of the pub. As befits, the beer is served right up to the top.

The pub has very charming decor and friendly staff... My friend & I were having a lovely time catching up until the sports was switched on at FULL VOLUME, forcing us out into the beer garden to continue our conversation - fortunately there were heat lamps. Shame though, otherwise would have given 5*

Awesome family run pub with great vibes. Packed with movie memorabilia and when I was in on Friday night they had a really good band playing Irish and American folk tunes. Highly recommend.

Lovely filmminded bar, had a fun pub quiz there (not that international-minded though, quite English). They serve a GREAT Sunday Roast, I’ve had the vegetable one. The personnel was just the kindest.

The Alma used to be nice but had the worst experience today - The phone kept on ringing and the staff would not pick it up. A lady asked them to either pick it up or disconnect the line but the guy working behind the bar was terribly rude and said there was nothing they could do. So we spend an hour eating with about 20 minutes of a strident ringtone stopping us from chatting. Sort your act out and treat customers politely?

Nice dark atmosphere on a sunday evening, 80s tunes, jerk chicken burger and chips was way too spicy that it made it not nice and the chips were way over salted!!!

What a great meal ribeye was sooooo tastey would recommend guys if your local try it Cooke to perfection nice staff and nice food try it you won’t regret it
