Thaikhun Southampton in Southampton

Fancied coming to Thaikhun for a lunch with my two daughters today. Last visit was a year ago. I must say the food quality has gone worse and downhill. I ordered the stir fried rice with belly pork which was very chewy and hard as they were cut in very thick slices. My daughter had the crispy belly pork from the specialty menu. Same story hard and chewy.Neither dishes were pleasant to eat. We left the dish unfinished and not a word of apology from the staff. The service was poor as they were understaffed. We waited more then 40 minutes for our main course. But I definitely will not be recommending to our friends nd family and certainley we will be not going there ever again. Absolutely fuming!!

We ordered on Deliveroo for delivery to Hedge End, the food was awesome and still hot after the 20 minute or so delivery. Food was well packaged and reasonable portion sizes. It was above average in price but really beat our expectations in taste. We had a lovely evening sat out in the garden eating our delicious Thai takeaway!

Pretty fantastic Thai chain. Fun street vibes. Food was great, pad Thai was excellent for the context and region. Their curries were extremely well seasoned. I especially liked the KSG. Also their tiki style cocktails are fantastic. Extra points for their bartender’s 3 point shake.

Benny served us and she was absolutely amazing, she made sure we were happy with our meal and even recommended some meals which we did very much enjoy.

Perfect place for all meat and no meat lovers! Options from duck, beef and chicken, through fish and even tofu or vegan protein! Absolutely great. Pad thai was the best I tried in Southampton. Wide selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Desserts available.

First time, been excited to try this restaurant by just looking at the menu i was looking forward to eating here, Arrived with few friends, quick to seat , fast service very friendly and a perfect atmosphere very chilled, and the best of all that the food tasted amazing! Flavours are perfect very home style street food fresh! We very much enjoyed! Thank you I will be back soon :) The waitress was very friendly and quick at her job , perfect end to a perfect night . Been here twice now, I have tried a different dish second time around as first time was amazing . And yet another delicious dish we very much enjoyed the food and service always great , will be back again for sure !!!! Amazing food and good vibe with a relaxing atmosphere

Whenever we crave papaya salad, Thaikhun is our go to place in Southampton. Always a lovely atmosphere there and their staff is the best. Shay served us and was super attentive!

The best service and the food is very good

The garlic pepper beef was really good- beef was tender and the sauce goes really well with it. But the rest of the dishes were not as flavourful as it. Street noodles was overcooked (too soft), curry wasn’t as flavorful as I usually expected in an authentic Thai restaurant, chicken satay- meat was too dry (loved the peanut satay sauce though)…. The staff were very attentive and friendly, very relaxing atmosphere.

Amazing food, probably one of the best Thai I’ve ever had and I’ve had my fair share. Will deffo be back, not one thing to fault.

Amazing food I’d go as far as saying the best Thai I’ve ever had…. Very busy always which is great but not service wise. Atmospheres amazing but seatings very very close together! I return regularly it’s delicious 👌🏻

Honestly...I know my thai food ...the food served in this restaurant isn't that good ..I did tell the manageress that the food was for European taste and not very good ...Good job I didn't bring my sons mother who's from Thailand..believe me she wouldn't have eaten it ..and it's pretty expensive aswell ...so please be warned ..you won't be getting proper thai food .

Food ok green curry very watery, but didn;t realise the 20% off meant that 20% of my order would be missing!!! when informed with copy of receipts and photos got a credit only good for 30 days but hardly ever order delivered food so forced to take the loss. First order from here so not a good experience. last time!!!

What a fantastic find. Warmly greeted by friendly helpful staff. Faultless attentive service. Kitchen on view showing staff working at pace. Food wise I couldn't fault a thing. Crispy pork belly starter was tasty and plentiful and the main red Thai curry was just right. Finished with my favourite of banana fritters, that had a light coating but not overly sweet - perfection.

Wow! Seriously just wow!! Great atmosphere, staff are amazing and fast with orders, the chef is incredible with the cooking as you can watch them making the food! 😁 So fast. Food is delicious! 🤤 And trust me there's some spicy dishes on the menu 🔥🤯 for a great meal and great time it cannot be missed...5* 🔥🔥

I bought a Thai masterclass as a present for my husband and it was perfect. It included demonstrations from the chefs, drinks, goodie bags and cooking and eating the two dishes we cooked. We would like to thank the chefs (brothers) James and Ben. They were so attentive and patient and accommodating to others in the group who had allergies and dislikes. The waitress Sara was so friendly too. We have recommended this event to everyone!!

My friend and I had the most wonderful dinner here. Having visited Thailand a couple of months ago and missing the food we were excited to be transported back through the restaurants food. Everything was delicious, great portion sizes and the highlight was dessert; Mango sticky rice. There were a variety of options for every taste, light options as well as hearty ones. The staff were lovely and kind, they managed to seat us on a busy Friday despite the fact that we hadn't prebooked which was great. We looked forward to eating here again in the future.

Amazing Thai Experience at Thaikhun Southampton! I recently visited Thaikhun in Southampton, and it was an unforgettable dining experience! Every dish we tried was packed with bold, fresh flavors and beautifully presented. I’ve been to thaikhun Southampton a few times now and I have to say the food is the best!!! I’m coeliac and they’ve always looked after me. The service is always amazing. I highly recommend experiencing this for yourself! It’s the best🥰

Food was tasty but not as described. Thai basil fried rice contained no Thai basil (which I happen to really like)

The service was absolutely terrible. Despite arriving at lunchtime and being clearly seen by the staff, we were not greeted or welcomed. A Thai waitress blatantly ignored my boyfriend and me, which came across as incredibly rude and disrespectful. When we were ready to order, we tried raising our hands to get someone’s attention, but no one came over even though they saw us. We waited for about 10-15 minutes before anyone helped us. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the worst part. We then had to wait another 30-35 minutes for our food to arrive, which was very disappointing in taste. This experience was far below the standard I’ve experienced at Thaikun in Bath, where the staff is welcoming and polite. To top it off, I was charged a 10% service fee for this unpleasant visit.

Love this place, fun decor, great atmosphere and pretty authentic food! Will become one of my regular food haunts.

Popped in at 21.10. All the staff gathered at the front of the entrance. Everyone looked at me like a big surprise to see a customer walking in. One member asked'Are you alright?!' Then said 'Sorry the kitchen is closed, and we're closed at 10pm'. What a shame to the business and the owner! As clearly, your team didn't want clients. There are a few Thai Khun places around uk .. Hope this place is a one-off!!

Fantastic spicy pork salad. Been to a few Thai places but this seems the most authentic with respect to flavour.

Visited today Thaikhun for cookery class. We had amazing chef - Sawitee. She is great in explaining how to make Thai dishes. Very kind and positive! I think even beginner can give a go as it’s very fun way to spend your time and you will be eating tasty 😋 Thai food you cooked.

Amazing. Shame you closed in Guildford and we have to go Southampton or Oxford to eat at Thai Khun but totally worth it!!!

Been here so many time but everytime we came in we not happy with the lady ai the till,she so rude and unfriendly to customer,when i call a bill they already came in take all the food away while i take money out,all food left just took away so quick and i said i want to take away and they not even sorry and said when you call a bill it mean we clean table…

I'm sorry to have to give a negative review as I didn't actually try the food. Google says it closes at 10pm, people were still in the restaurant when I arrived at 9pm. I was told the kitchen is closed. I wasn't that bothered, but staff wasn't really friendly and lack of information. It might of been a blessing as we went to Chicken Wings place next door and that was half the price and stunning food. Advice would be, don't go at 9pm, waste of a journey. There is a few restaurants around.

Don't bother going at 9.01pm. They are open until 10.00pm but refuse to accept customers after 9.00pm.

Great Thai atmosphere 🤩 Delicious food and excellent service!

Fast paced, atmospheric modern Thai vibe!!!! Food was fab, looked good and tasted even better! Staff were very kind to squeeze us in as it was extremely busy but we wanted to sit inside. We didn’t have to wait too long for our meals and it has an open view kitchen so you can watch the chefs cooking fresh food.

Feels like we’re in Thailand due to beautiful Thai Style decorations! Banana Fritters is my favorite ever in Thaikhun. And also grilled pork and sticky rice combo is really delicious!

Went as a group for lunch. Food was incredible - phad Thai was beautiful as was the green curry. Very much like the authentic food in Thailand, though not quite a spicy. Had a sharing feast which was 3 dishes plus rice for £20 which isn't cheap, but was stuffed at the end. Hadn't had the basil sweet chilli chicken before - was awesome!! Staff were great and accommodating, although service was a touch slow during the lunch time rush. Look forward to going again some day 🇹🇭🍛🍜

Good food and prompt service. Menu somewhat misleading. My wife ordered stir fry and they asked her what type of rice, for which we were charged 4.5 pounds. Apparently rice is not included. They also added a 10% service charge. Many of the cocktails listed on their special menu are not available...

The reason why I've given this 2 stars is not because of the quality of the food itself, it is due to the inflated, rip off prices and small measly portions. Since lockdown/cost of living crisis, we've noticed a huge increase in prices and shrinking of items. Was not like this when thaikun first opened. Personally its the head office henchos of the chains and corporates and not a decision of the staff themselves. Like I said, not knocking the taste of food or service, but very expensive for a family of 5 to eat here. Much more cost effective places around. Sorry thaikun we will not be returning again.

Checked website for opening hours. Found it was 9pm. Arrived at 8.15 only to be told they were shut. Travelled 25 minutes to get there. Not impressed

Stumbled across this Thai place as we were leaving WestQuay around dinner time Good menu options, though don't expect anything life-changing nor particularly authentic. Can recommend for a casual dinner and if you’re craving Thai, but not a must-try, given expensive pricing. Our vegetarian dish was shockingly small Relatively comfortable seating, easy to find restaurant.

Our first time here and we are definitely coming back! The staff were so friendly, the atmosphere was great and the restaurant has a great vibe. We had three courses and loved all of it. However, the Crispy Belly Pork was particularly fantastic! Will definitely come back here.

Food is amazing, friendly staff. However it’s chilly for us to sit outdoor while indoor tables were fully booked It’s very close with the taste you can eat in Thailand. We’ve ordered Padthai, starter platter, chicken satay, pineapple fried rice Nothing to challenge, flavours are fantastic. Highlight: Delicious dessert, mango sticky rice. Definitely will recommend this to our friends.

Been there once and we really enjoyed the time there. They have a lot of variety in the menu for food and drinks. The service was super friendly, yet it was a bit hard to find someone at times since it was a busy time. But that was ok. Food was extremely good and satisfying. There’s outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. I would recommend staying indoors on colder days and during evenings since it can get a bit chilly and windy outside. They have clean and well-maintained toilets as well.

Pleasantly surprised for a chain restaurant! We had for lunch, Pad See Ew (street noodles) and Prawn pineapple fried rice, ending with Mango sticky rice. Each dish tasted great and authentic! The number of prawns in the rice was generous. Service was superb 👌

We have just had dinner in this restaurant with a successful decor on the theme of Nepal Himalaya. Very good and very generous Thai cuisine. We feared that it would be a bit of a tourist trap because near the tourist center cruise passengers flock but we were pleasantly surprised. Good value for money 🙂

I was welcomed nicely at first but then the same lady who was called Sara made us feel really uncomfortable at the end. We were taken to a bigger table as we had more food which wouldn’t fit a table that sits 2. The food had come out and we had started eating, we had ordered sweetcorn fritters and there was 4 on the plate, 2 were good and the other 2 were burnt. We mentioned this to Sara when we called her over as we couldn’t eat those 2 fritters as they were too hard and burnt. She then said “well they’re fried” which doesn’t make sense because that doesn’t mean it should be burnt. She just stood there and said “well sorry about that” didn’t offer any sort of compensation or even offer to remake the fritters for takeaway nor take it off the bill. Once we had received the bill we noticed how there was an optional service charge which I then asked her what it was and could she remove it because I’m not giving an optional service charge to someone who started having an attitude and wasn’t helpful. She then stared at me and said “ok..” but you could tell how uncomfortable and awkward it was. She wasn’t friendly and welcoming after that, she looked like she couldn’t be bothered with us anymore. She even snatched the £20 off the table and walked off. It’s the second time I've been to Thaikun, I went this time after 2 years and i had to complain the first time for the customer service and now again nothings changed, its just an uncomfortable setting where you cant even get a waiter to come to you.

We tried the vegetarian Pad Thai, sweetcorn cakes and Green curry. Excellent food, highly recommend!

First time trying the place and won’t be coming back. We arrived and were waiting to be seated, and it took 10 minutes for someone to greet us. We were seated outside and placed our food and drink orders within 10 min. The service was relatively quick except for the fact that one of the 4 mains was only served when everyone else was already done with their meals, the waitress apologies for the delay saying it was being prepped still which we highly doubt considering it was barely lukewarm for a katsu curry. to make things worse, our drinks were only served near the end of the meal… 2 diet cokes and an iced green tea took them 40 minutes. Food was great when served hot, but otherwise service was horrible. Won’t be coming back

Bad experience with the service here on Saturday night. They forgot to bring out one of the meals and my Mum was sat there whilst we all started eating. We had to ask the waitress 4 times to bring out the missing meal and she would disappear and not bring out the food. Eventually (20mins later once we had finished eating!) they brought out the meal but it was stone cold!!! Would not recommend

Maybe it's because I'm from Chicago, where we have some of the best Thai food in the world, but I found the food flavorless and unseasoned. The food was also very expensive and you don't get a lot.

Ordered delivery and was told to call the restaurant to let them know about allergies. I called immediately and the woman said the food is already cooked which is obviously impossible after 30 seconds. After a big argument she finally said she would cater for the allergy and said it was a one off. After all that the food delivery was late and the Deliveroo driver said everything fell out of the paper bag so there was sauce over everything and no bag to carry the stuff upstairs with. I had to embarrassingly ask the hotel for a bag to get my food upstairs. Finally, while the food was tasty, it was all cold by the time it eventually arrived. Won’t use them again.

Three of us ordered tofu pad thai and it was delicious however our portions were different size. My dish was very small portion and my friend’s bigger even though was the same thing. Was quite disappointed because the flavour was rich and yummi.

I love the decor, had the pad thai with prawns (vegetable gyoza starter) it was sooo good!! Staff were lovely too, food didn't take too long. Would recommend.

Today was my third visit to thaikhun, the first two times I had a very good experience, but today the waiter made me feel very uncomfortable. Today's experience was nothing short of poor, my boyfriend and I went into the Thaikhun with two milk teas. We were told by the waitress that take away drinks are not allowed. The waiter spoke very fast I didn't even hear her, after all English is not my first language. Then the waiter gave us a bag, and told us to put the milk tea in it. At this point, I was a bit angry that I couldn't drink the cold drinks in the restaurant because I was on my period. The waiter didn't give me a choice: put the tea in the bag and go in for lunch, or take my tea with me and continue to think about eating at this place. I was going to just leave, but my boyfriend insisted on having this one. So we stayed. The person who served me today was a tall Asian girl who seemed to be Vietnamese. There was no sense of service or attitude throughout the whole process, I will definitely not pay the 10% service charge next time for such a service. And the payaya salad was warm today. It was different from anything I've had before, and I didn't choose the spiciness level and the waiter didn't ask, I thought it was very spicy by default, but it turned out to be mildly spicy, same as no flavor at all.

Absolutely amazing place! We stumbled across this place on our way home and decided to give it a try as we love Thai cuisine and it did not disappoint. The staff were so lovely and smiling, answered all of our questions and checked up regularly. The quality of the food had exceeded our expectations and definitely worth the price! The decorations were so fascinating, it really gave off traditional Thai Street Market food (was also great to look at whilst waiting for our mains to arrive🥰). Overall 10/10 experience, definitely our new fav spot to eat at in Southampton. See you soon, and thank you! ❤️
