Thaikhun Cambridge in Cambridge

This is one of the worst Thai meals I have ever eaten. One of the most expensive as well. The sweet and sour I ordered had no sour whatsoever....it just sweetened to the point of being unpalatable. No other apparent seasoning was present. The 'vegan protein' had an odd texture. The mixed starter platter we ordered, tasted like the deep fry oil had been reused from a 1970s Vespa. My partner order a meal that was described as being light in heat. I tasted it and found that it was hot enough to sting my habernero-sauce-habit mouth. When I looked this seemed to be as it had been salted with raw birds eye chilli's. The menu description is vague. The fact you can't tell what comes with rice in the delivery menu means you are more likely to order an extra side...only to not needing it. Ironically the rice with my dish was overcooked and the rice on my side was undercooked. I don't know how you manage that. It is not just I would never order from there again...I want to do drive past hurling their poor quality, badly prepared food through the front door, without the courtesy of shouting 'duck'.

Great vegetarian options and gorgeous massaman curry. Staff are friendly and helpful and COVID safe.

Great choice for vegetarians and a quirky street food atmosphere to the place which made it a good evening. The vegetarian sharing platter included a deep fried papaya dish which I have never seen before and which tasted amazing

Came here on a rainy Friday night and the food and atmosphere did not disappoint. Food was fantastic and very tasty and the staff could not do enough for you, would highly recommend this for a place to eat.

El personal fue fabuloso y sí, como dicen otras críticas, no todos son tailandeses, pero son realmente atentos y acogedores, que es sin duda lo que importa. El interior es luminoso y divertido y te sentiste muy seguro ya que el restaurante había dejado las mesas vacías a ambos lados y observaba las precauciones de COVID cuando entraste.La comida que teníamos tenía un buen nivel de especias y picante con sabores clave que salían bien. . . compartimos un pinto y la selección de entrantes, que parecía ser la forma más económica y probablemente era demasiado para nosotros (¡tal vez solo quédate con el pinto!) Pero la selección de entrantes vegetarianos era buena con algunas cosas que no había visto antes de.Los platos pintos eran abundantes con un plato considerable de arroz jazmín. . . Qué bueno que no fueras arroz de esfuerzo. . .Bebidas muy razonables. . cócteles de nuevo muy buenos y baratos y cerveza de barril o embotellada que eran muy asequibles.Gastamos poco más de 20 en comida por cabeza y factura total, incluidas las bebidas, llegando a 70, incluido el cargo por servicio. Por lo que obtuvimos, pensé que fue realmente bueno.

Hay varios restaurantes tailandeses en Cambridge y mi favorito es claramente dirigido por personal tailandés a diferencia de este.La comida era aceptable pero no tenía frescura. Como muchos restaurantes, se basan en microondas o freidoras y luego mezclan la carne que elijas con una salsa espesa y aceitosa.En consecuencia, la comida no tiene un sabor interesante y tiene poca textura.

Tuvimos una deliciosa comida en Thaikhun para celebrar el cumpleaños de mi hijo. Los entrantes eran deliciosos: las albóndigas de cerdo recibieron una gran aprobación y los platos para compartir también fueron excelentes. Los platos principales son todos muy sabrosos, aunque tenga en cuenta que los niveles de chile pueden ser más altos que en algunos establecimientos.Todo el personal usa máscaras y el restaurante no estaba abarrotado, se sentía tan seguro como podría ser desde la perspectiva de Covid.Tenga en cuenta que el restaurante está financiando su propio plan de descuentos para septiembre, por lo que para un grupo de cinco teníamos 25 de descuento en la factura.

4 de nosotros comimos aquí para un almuerzo de sábado, la comida era genial. Recomiendo encarecidamente el curry Massaman! Central en Cambridge tan excelente ubicación!

Amazing food and cocktails and great atmosphere. Would highly recommend. Covid friendly, staff all taking necessary precautions. They also accommodated last minute booking.

Took ages for someone to come and seat us, they didn’t have half the things on the menu which they neglected to tell us. The food was ok but the blonde waitress was very rude and unfriendly

Fabulous food, staff so attentive and the speed of deivery and standard of service was great. All staff wearing ppe and very helpful. Carolina gave excellent customer service . I would recommend and return when next in the city

Super friendly staff who were just the right side of attentive. Our waiter was especially charming and made sure the heat was dialled down a bit on my papaya salad. The food was very flavoursome and a decent portion. The decor was quirky, toilets clean, good adherence to Covid guidelines. No complaints at all. Would definitely recommend.

Visité Cambridge y encontré a Thaikhun. Agradable y peculiar por dentro con algunos toques auténticos. ¡La comida llegó rápidamente y fue tan increíble que volvimos para almorzar al día siguiente! I was really impressed with the quality of food here. The calamari is probably the best I've ever had and everything was really fragrant and tender. I loved the decor too, a real sense of Thailand. The service was quick and friendly. Also, a great choice of cocktails - it was hard to choose but I picked the Good Time Girl which was delicious. I will definitely be returning!

Loved the food but so so disappointing to see so much plastic packaging being used for drinks and food. Will sadly not be returning until they sort this out as its 2020 and important to be as sustainable as possible.

Went for late lunch prior to attending the theatre. What a lovely location on the Quayside. Hope to return here in the summer.Restaurant has a unique ambience. The old televisions and radios dotted about coupled with Thai signs and posters give it the impression you are indeed in a side street eatery in Bangkok or Rayong! The seating arrangements add to this ambience, cosy booths or tables and chairs.My husband enjoyed a spicy chicken soup and I enjoyed a spicy seafood soup. We enjoyed a Thai red curry and a Thai green curry with fluffy rice. All was cooked to perfection. Fresh ingredients and piping hot. All washed down with two bottles of wine. Alcohol and food very reasonably priced. Tourist Thai family of eight sat near us, so you do not need any further ringing endorsements. They were very complimentary about their food too. We will definitely return! Cecilia & Steve.

Fuimos a almorzar aquí y era un viernes relativamente tranquilo. Teníamos el chili de carne y albahaca tailandesa, que era increíble y los fideos picantes de mariscos que se notaba era muy fresco. En cuanto a las bebidas, los cócteles tienen una buena relación calidad-precio (entre 5 y 7,50). Recomendamos el cóctel de sandía de luna llena 5 que es refrescante pero lo suficientemente fuerte como para dar en el clavo. Ambos platos fueron bastante picantes, incluso para nosotros, como personas que disfrutan de muchas especias. La decoración del restaurante es muy atractiva y sería excelente para organizar una reunión grupal con amigos o una comida con un compañero. En general, una buena relación calidad-precio, ya que este es uno de los mejores lugares tailandeses en los que hemos comido.

the location is good near river and have outside dinner for nice weather, also have a small separate room for big group. Fry noodle is good but we d't like veg spring roll.

Thaikhun ofrece un taller de cocina para aprender a cocinar 2 platos. En resumen, no vale la pena el dinero.La experiencia es de alrededor de 60 por persona y pasas un par de horas en el restaurante por la mañana. Le muestran cómo cocinar 2 platos, luego los cocina usted mismo y come lo que ha preparado. Bueno en principio, pero el método de cocción se trata de atajos, la pasta de curry está lista para comprar, el pollo está listo y todo lo que realmente está haciendo es juntar algunos ingredientes y calentarlos.Es una pena. Ahórrate tus centavos.

Normalmente no soy un gran admirador de estos restaurantes encadenados y menos auténticos, aunque siempre estoy dispuesto a probar algo.Definitivamente gratamente sorprendido, con el arroz de coco como un punto culminante.También recomendaría el massaman.No estoy seguro de que vuelva a toda prisa, pero definitivamente no lo descartaría si estás cerca del área y te apetece algo de comida tailandesa.

The curry was very tasteful as was the dish with pork belly. The staff was friendly and quick to serve.

Decent meal using shared platter - panang curry, red thai stir fry and pad thai - good value but quirky venue lacked atmosphere and was cold

Went for the stir fried prawn with chilli. Mistake. Dish was cold so had to be sent back and the prawns were wet and discussing.

This is my favourite place for red Thai curry - if nothing else give it a try, they also have a nice range of ice creams and cocktails.

My last visit to Thaikhun was very disappointing.

We fancied thai food and had no luck finding a place serving after 3pm on Sunday till we got here. Lucky us as it was easy to get a table and food was served quickly. Tasty (and hooot!) Tom yum soup, great sweetcorn cakes followed by Pad Thai with prawns - delicious food and a large portion - my appetite and cravings were fulfilled. Shame we live so far away!

It's tough to give this place a bad review because the staff was great and service was swift. My problem lies in 2 areas I had the tofu pad Thai and it was bland, no flavour to it at all and a Thai place should have a good pad thai. My other big problem was the service charge, there is a 10 % added to the bill which is listed as suggested amount however the total is in large print and most people in a rush would not notice it. To me it is a sneaky way of making 10% more on every bill.

Very Thai, for the offer and for the simplicity of table setting that might disappoint some, if not prepared to Thai street food in all his aspects. A pleasant discover in Cambridge.

been there with my family on lunch. Food was really but service(((first of all we were waiting on hostess to give us table then they were not so quick to take order.and in the end were waiting nearly 20 min on check and for this low service they charge 10%

My kids’ new favourite place to eat in Cambridge. My son is lactose intolerant, which can be tricky, but at Thaikhun there’s plenty of safe dishes to choose from. Great location too!

Quantity was less for green curry we ordered ( less than half a bowl ) and taste was not at all authentic

I have been there many times, never let me down. Ever time I visit busy or not very friendly staff and fast service. Food is delicious and amazing menu.

We came for lunch and just shared a few starters and had a couple of beers. Very quick and friendly service and the food was very good - zingy and fresh. Great setting with some outdoor seating and it was very funky indoors

Friends really thought we were in Thailand., the ambiance was on point., and the food was satisfying. Can be very spicy so please check the menu carefully., we were very pleased with the service. Price is reasonable. Will look for their branch in London. Definitely going back and will recommend to family and friends.

Really lovely food, restaurant kitted out in Thai style quite unusual. Friendly and quick service. Would highly recommend a visit. Portion sizes amazing and staff were happy to provide a take away for what we couldnt eat.

We very much enjoyed the food - multiple fussy kids asked to go back again the following day! The service was a bit patchy - the drinks were a bit slow to arrive and the prawn crackers didn’t appear. But it was a v busy lunchtime shift during a bank holiday so I’ll let them off!

This was my first time having Thai food and we were all very impressed with the flavours and the textures of the different types of food. We recently visited Cambridge as part of a family reunion and after we all went punting we were starving. Needless to say we were a group of 16 adults and the restaurant quickly put together a large table at the back for all of us. Nothing was a problem despite being a large group. The service was excellent, the food came quickly and tasted delicious!

Some of the best, most authentic Thai food in Cambridge. My benchmark Thai dishes are Tom Yum and Green Curry with Chicken. Thaikhun excelled in both of these and both were properly fiery too.

The service was so good very welcoming the food was good and the waiter that assist us inthink his name is kamil was very polite he made sure all orders were served. Definitely will coming back again and i will recommend this place 100%

Me and my better half always look out for the nearest Thai restaurant when we're away. This place had the huge bonus of accepting Meerkat Meals so it worked out as great value although even at full price the curry and chicken pad thai were fantastic. Service was friendly and extremely quick. This place is almost worth the trip to Cambridge alone.

Our first time at Thaikhun and we were really impressed. We booked for 2.45pm, arrived early but were seated straightaway, no problem. Welcoming staff, great ambiance and attentive service. The food was delicious - glad the menus are online otherwise it would’ve taken me ages to choose! Excellent value for money - we’ll definitely eat here again.

The service was excellent and the venue had a cool vibe first time in any Thaikhun and what a discovery food was delicious and reasonably priced. the Papaya salad which can sometimes be disappointing was crisp and thai hot no room for dessert however will be returning check out Thaikhun if the others in different parts of the country they will be outstanding A*****

Came her for a romantic dinner and specified a nut allergy. Great care was taken to help and the manager paid special attention to my allergies. Very good and will come again.

Had a terrific dinner here... very tasty, hearty portions, quick service and reasonably priced. Perfect loading for a summer's evening bat spotting tour! And I'd recommend the cocktails, had a manly one laced with hundreds and thousands sprinkles

You can count how many pork belly and cashew nuts in the dish! This is how small the portion is! A £13.50 dish looked like a half portion offered in other restaurants and the taste was average and nothing special. We spent £46.00 but still feel that we didn’t eat much. I can’t believe some people rated this restaurant above 4 stars or more. For what reason? I will never come back here and do not recommend to anyone who wants a decent dinner.

Basic food swimming in soy and oil. I had a small entree and noodles, spent 30£. Premises were ok, sercive friendly.

Good thai food. we went there for lunch while waiting for our punting ride. lots of stalls right in front of the restaurant for punting which is good to relax in after a good meal.

Our visit got off to a bad start when the restaurant door was not opened until 1210pm; we had a confirmed booking for 1200 noon! After that, things improved. Among four of us (all adults) we shared 9 starters (prices £5.50-£8.00) - all good. Adding a beef curry main course and drinks including 3 cocktails took our total food bill to £81.25, drinks to £27.65. Not cheap for "street food" but Cambridge isn't!

My wife and I bought a Travelzoo voucher for a lesson in cooking Thai food. It was an excellent experience where the chef Ovi demonstrated how to cook a two course meal and then helped us to do it ourselves.

Very enjoyable visit to Thaikhun today. Nice clean restaurant done up in a street food style. Service was very good, though the restaurant was not very busy, so I wouldn’t expect anything else. Starter and main courses were very tasty. Food is a reasonable price for the quality, but I think the drinks are a bit pricey. A very nice lunch.

Went for the shared platter starters and Mossamam Curry with a Pad Thai side dish (to share). The starters came out quickly but were perhaps they were not as hot as they could have been. The portions sizes are quite deceiving and they use small plates and the portions seem small, but it was certainly sufficient for me (adult male, hungry). Curry was good not too spicy, but just enough and good flavor. I thought it was a little expensive for what it was, but its central Cambridge so probably on par.

We chose Thaikhun randomly and we were really positively surprised. The customer service was great and even though it was busy we didn’t have to wait to be served. You need to try that gin cooler!

The staff here are exemplary. Tremendously friendly and very helpful. It helps that they are serving you up delicious Thai food as well! I wish I had a bigger stomach. After 3 courses though, I was carrying my belly out in a wheelbarrow (in a good way!).

Was given the bill on buying are second tower of beer was going to eat but was told i had to pay even though we never asked for are bill made us feel very uncomfortable not that interested in getting more business

Not to be missed if you love thai food or your first time. The staff here are very helpful and friendly. The Restaurent itself is very reminiscent of trips to Thailand and located just by the punting on the cam. Definitely try the Squid!

We were visiting Cambridge and decided to have Thai food for lunch. We went to Thaikhun and had a really great meal.

Comparing to Oxford branch, i was disappointed with the cooking. Everything was so sweet, like puddings! We were staving but the microwave dim sums came so fast! They stuck together like we’ve never seen before.

Although the place is nice and quirky and the food is good, i was disappointed that i expressly asked the waitress to have a drink without straw and she came back with my cocktail with a straw in it. What was even more disappointing was that I had to explain the reason why I didn't want the straw in my drink as plastic and straw are really bad for environment and wildlife.

Returned again to Thaikhun Cambridge. Although the food and service were as good as ever the menu has been reduced quite drastically and the portions have been scaled back so the value element isn’t there anymore, which is a shame. Probably think twice about going again as the value for money isn’t as good as before and other similar restaurants are available.

We ordered house specialties including pork skewers and crispy pork salad, neither tasted of anything. The pad Thai was tasteless too, as were the Singapore noodles. It is quite an achievement to combine that many ingredients and not create any flavour.

We chose this place predominately for its location as it was one of the few eateries that had tables available outside and it was a glorious sunny day. Maybe the fact that it had tables free said it all really.

Located alongside the river just down from Magdalene St bridge, Thaikhun is surrounded by lots of other restaurants and so has to excel to survive.

Booked a table for an April Sunday night. 4 of us chose the £15 per person set meal and so shared 4 dishes for each option. Good value for money- green and red curry very good as was the sweet and sour dish. Good ambiance created by the Thai ‘junk’ used to decorate the place . We declined desserts as we were full - we will return to this funky restaurant.

The food was lovely, and came very promptly! Service was great too and was a really good price for a dinner for two!

For about two hours the head chef, Ovi, took us through how to make a) spring rolls and b) Thai red curry; we then made them, and ate some of them (taking the rest home in doggy bags). His sheer professionalism and love for his work shone through and was inspiring. Note to Thai Kun senior management: people like Ovi are like gold dust. His collegue, Jana, was very personable and welcoming too, as were the other staff we saw briefly.

I had high expectations of Thaikhun because I have been to the restaurant in Manchester and it is simply the best.

Excellent meal as always! It is a regular for my friend and I. Pad Thai is my go to meal and it’s never a disappointment, good size portions. Best Thai in Cambridge!

I have to say, chain places are always something of a concern, but Thaikhun rather bucked that trend when we visited last night. We've passed by hundreds of times, living only half a mile or so away, but with my wife not being a spice/pepper lover, and in fact intolerant of it, my quest for Thai has been somewhat curbed. Anyhow, thinking we'd try, I called the restaurant to ask if it could cater for those with a spice/pepper intolerance, and they were highly reassuring in saying that in the main they could, but with some dishes unsuitable.

On Sunday we decided with my partner to go for a lunch. We wanted to try something new so we decided to try a thai kitchen. We were welcomed very warmly from everyone but specially from Jana. She made our day. She came to our table explained everything to us and she said was the one when we were ready to order. She was very kind and she went through the menu with us. I was very surprised about the service and overall of the restaurant. We will be back definitely.

We had been punting and were quite hungry after our trip. We happened to spot this place . We had my in laws with us who like rice and curry so we walked in . The food was absolutely delicious. My in-laws were very happy as they had been their missing spicy food.

Have visited here many times over the years , just getting round to reviewing after latest visit. Food always excellent here , always recommend sharing starters. Service is so much better than it used to be in here and is one of the better restaurants in Cambridge.

The food was pretty good and very spicy - possibly too spicy! I like my food spicy so I didn’t expect a “1 chilli” dish to blow my head off, but this was my first time eating Thai food. It was very quiet in there for 7pm on a Friday, but the ambience was nice and the staff attentive. Plenty of veggie options and they had singha beer on tap which I liked. I would go again but not in a hurry to.

Me and 9 friends went here on a Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere inside was great, the cocktails were lovely and the food was delicious and didn't take too long at all (definitely reminded me of being back in Thailand). I would definitely recommend this place.

Popped in for lunch after being recommended. Didn’t disappoint! Quite hard to chose what to eat because so many dishes looked good. We had the papaya salad with pork and pot steamed noodles with seafood. Both were fantastic with very fresh flavours. Will come back to sample more of the menu!

We really enjoyed the dinner on Friday night - food was tasty, fresh and authentic, better than your average village thai place - and reminded me of my holidays in Thailand. I really recommend for low-key events as it’s not particularly posh but really pleasant. I will happily come back. really recommend the papaya salad with chicken wings side!

FANTASTIC, incredibly tasty Thai food and a great atmosphere. I had the Thai green curry and it tasted fantastic - unfortunately it was too hot for my taste... perhaps the spiciest green curry I've ever had.

We chanced across Thaikhun by accident in Cambridge, and we're glad we did!

This was a really different Sunday morning. The class was pitched at exactly the right level. Not too complicated, not using weird ingredients nor making something inedible. Ovi, our chef and teacher was giving constant small tips which are really useful to know. The end result was delicious and very satisfying, knowing we had cooked it. Well recommended!

This place has a great vibe. Staff are attentive and friendly. The thing that is the best about Thaikhun is the food. The food is always good but it was pretty spectacular this time! The pineapple rice with prawns from the "specials" menu was fab! Packed with a lot of shrimp and tasted great. Also, the staff were very friendly. Well done Thaikhun Cambridge!

My husband and I have been for a cookery lesson this morning. Made to feel really welcome with a hot drink (it was -2 outside!), then introduction to the day and meet the chef who was teaching us. There were four couples, which was just right and allowed you to ask questions. The chef was knowledgeable, although from Romania!! He demonstrated then we cooked ourselves, eating each dish after cooking it, of which they were spring rolls and red curry. Lovely food, lots of hints and tips and a bottle of beer in the goody bag to take home.

Came here as family as had tastecard. Sat near window which in the day would have views out to the river. Food was ok but did not taste authentic and could not see any chefs who looked like they were from Thailand. Service was slow but it was very quiet the evening we visited. Overall it was ok, but unlikely to return even with an offer.

My friends and I love a good Thai restaurant. I have previously visited Thaikhun in Oxford and have always found it truly delicious.

A welcoming warm restaurant, offers a good selection of freshly prepared food. There are a number of dishes with both vegan and vegetarian options which is really good. The food itself is full of flavour and served in generous portions .

Family of 5 visited Fri night, was quite empty but had a pleasant surprise.
