Small but very cozy Thai restaurant, very authentic and delicious, at pretty decent prices. The wait is never long, and the food always come hot and fresh. Can be quite crowded so come early.

What a great find! Dinner was absolutely stunning.. authentic Thai dishes with fresh ingredients and super tasty flavours. Great host too. Dishes and ambiance remind me of Thailand - if I lived closer, I'd be here every week. Would recommend any, and every, dish on the menu!

Nice atmosphere not far from Darwin College. The food is spicy (Phad Cha Talay) and I like it!

NB Takeaway, rather than eat-in. Last night, I ordered Pad Cha Talay, Coconut rice, and Prawn crackers. I was devastated that they had sold out of my favourite dessert, Tapioca pudding with coconut cream. I am not often staying in Cambridge but, when I am, I really look forward to savouring the above dishes. With the first mouthful of Pad Cha Talay, it was as though fireworks were going off in my mouth - the flavours and succulence of this delicious spicy seafood dish satisfied every taste bud in my mouth! I enjoyed this sumptuous dish so much, once again, and look forward to being back in Cambridge to repeat the experience! Thank you, Sala Thong!

This is a lovely little place. Great food. Nice atmosphere. Dinner for two we enjoyed very much. I would book if you can, but they fitted us in.

On the tail end of our holiday and craving badly for Asian food but this was just not it. We had the Tom yum soup, fried chicken appetisers, seafood mixed dish and cooked vegetables but everything was just really… not great. For 4.50£ at least the rice portion was a decent size enough for 1.5 adults.

I am appalled by this restaurant. It is evident they do not care about loyal customers. My table spent £270+ in total for the food, but because two people couldn’t make it due to unforeseen circumstances, they took £10 off our deposit. We understand that this was their policy but it left a terrible taste after the amount of money we had spent for dinner. The policy itself is also very strange as usually deposits are not per person and should be nulled after a minimum spend. This just shows their values and unkindness for their customers. The whole experience is disheartening as the food is very tasty. We will not be coming back.

Been here a couple times. Quality ingredients, flavorful food, but very salty and a little pricy for rice. Taste wise, personally I think it’s better seasoned and spiced than the bland but instagrammable G* Squid, although the sodium level is too high. 2406 Tried steamed sea bass. Nice huge fish. More special than other dishes and feels healthier. The broth is sour-spicy and quite refreshing. There’s also some cabbage and veggie. Wish I had chopsticks tho. And I still insist not to pay almost 5 for rice :) The pad Thai and fried udon is decent. The stir fry tofu tastes good but on the salty side as are the curries here. — 202405 Still thinking 4.5 for a bowl of rice is ridiculous. Red Curry is less salty this time fortunately. Beef is tender, with slices of butternut squash (personally I prefer chunky ones but it’s alright). Tofu looks nice too. The ice tea is also the slimmest I’ve seen. —- Panang Duck Curry is the most frequent main I order. I love the tender marinated skin-on duck breast pieces. The duck meat portion is generous, even more than the veggies. (Having been to places where potato and other fillers occupy the bowl I think this is decent.) The curry is rich but not too heavy. The only downside is I can literally taste salt… And a bowl of rice for 4.5 is unimaginable/unacceptable for an Asian restaurant.😹 Sometimes I just order mango rice dessert instead (sadly they refuse to substitute the ice cream flavor). Papaya carrot salad is really spicy, in a good way. Soup noodle and fried rice also look nice. Fish cake is less interesting and can be quite greasy. Depending on the hour the place can be cozy or snuggling or crowded. Service is friendly and prompt. Not my favorite in Cambridge, but duck curry isn’t so common here. Next time I’ll see if they will heed my less salt request..

Some of the best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand. wonderfully cooked hom Mali rice fishcakes - made in house with a wonderful texture, 10/10 red curry chicken - very coconut rich, nice gentle heat, deeply flavoured, a bit more fresh Thai basil would have made it perfect in my opinion, 9/10 dry curry belly pork - strong umami flavour vur not very interesting otherwise, missing the kaffir lime aroma, I do like the pop of the small eggplants though, 8/10

We went here for a birthday and really enjoyed the food, although tasty the food was a bit expensive, especially the Sala Thong Platter was quite expensive for what you get. The staff were really nice and friendly and i would recommend this place. The only reason why i am leaving 4 stars is because their opening and closing times are not right on google as they close at 2.30 pm and reopen later again. Our friends were running a bit late but we were told that we could stay until 3 oclock but we can only order food by 2.30

We were a party of 10 (pre-booked), but they seemed unable to deal with such a party. Service, and general planning of the sort one expects in a restaurant, was very poor. Starters came out with or even after the main courses. Having both courses placed in front of one at the same time is not a great dining experience. Waiters also seemed to eb in a bad mood. Food not bad, but spoilt by extremely poor service.

Started off decent but a recent series of deliveries and visits had me absolutely disappointed. Dried and cold pad thai with no taste... Wet and mushy fried rice that was poorly seasoned. Not sure whats happening, either the chef has changed or the people just simply do not care. Unsurprisingly, this place is poorly rated by real Thai people. Sad but whatever.

It is not very often that I would write a negative review, but my visit to this restaurant felt very personal, hence this review, My wife and I decided to visit this place for a Sunday evening meal. We were greeted by a question of whether or not we had booked. We replied that we had not, and the young lady showed us to a table near the window. She then brought us two glasses of water and the menus. We perused the menus and made our selections, and looked forward to trying the food. In the meantime, several other customers came in after us. She showed them to other tables, and then proceeded to take their orders, much to our surprise. We waited quite a while to see if she would come to take our order, but she did not. I then took the decision to leave. The food may have been great but clearly no one wanted us to find out! I would not go back to this place or recommend it because of this very poor inattentive service, where you do not value each and every customer in turn.

Although not fully authentically Thai flavours, the food is nice, and those ribs were very tender. I’ll this say every time too, supply pictures with your menu, it would make it much easier to decide.

Really nice and a cosy restaurant to satisfy your Thai taste buds 😊 Three of us went here on a busy Saturday night and had a really nice experience. The staff are really polite & respectful. The wait time is well within the acceptable region, despite the busy time slot. The food is tasty, reasonable sizes and presented very nicely. I highly recommend Sala Thong if you are near Cambridge. There is ample paid street car parking around that is if you are driving. Thank you.

Went on a Monday night. The food was excellent however... when we were paying the bill, they told us that because we had booked a table for 9 and only 7 people had turned up, they'd be charging us an extra £10. Now to be fair they'd told us about this policy beforehand. However we'd spent £40 a head and it was a Monday night with plenty of empty tables so it wasn't like they'd had to turn people away. All in all an utterly stupid policy that put a hugely sour taste in the entire party's mouths just as we were leaving. My father in law felt really ill which is why he didn't join us and my mother in law decided to stay home with him to keep him company. I'm not telling them about this because he'd feel so bad about it. We'd all been many times before and live locally but I think the general consensus was that none of us will go back out of principle. What a way to lose customers. Unbelievable...

Pretty decent Thai food. And fairly good value for money. For four of us with a main and one beer each, it was £25 a head. The restaurant is quite small and intimate. Downstairs is nicer than upstairs for atmosphere.

The food in this restaurant is amazing! Every dish we tried was delicious, and the mango sticky rice was to die for. The venue is also very pleasant and very well located. The only reason this is not a five-star review is the service, which could really be improved.

Delicious food every dish we had was good, and the best prawn crackers Ive ever tasted. But the service was poor, they made mistakes, didnt bring two main courses despite repeated requests over an hour and eventually my friend had to stand in the kitchen doorway to get them to give him his order! I think like a lot of places they admit more customers than they can cope with because they want the money. I would go back but only on a quiet weekday.

Amazing food! Favourite restaurant in Cambridge. Dishes are always great and always a good experience dining here. Sometimes service can be a bit slow and they forget starters but understanding on Fridays and weekends.

Dined as a group of 10 for lunch today. Nothing on the menu is labelled vegan which is a shame in a city like Cambridge (and veggie options are also minimal), I had the tofu pad thai made vegan for me which I was grateful for. However, when it came out the portion was small, barely any veg, only had 4 pieces of tofu in it which were cold, the noodles were under cooked and mostly stuck together, and the flavour was sub par and pretty bland. Slightly overpriced at £11 too. The service was okay, they seemed to struggle with the larger table booking, with incorrect orders coming out for both drinks and food, and the long waits between people’s food orders coming out. As a vegan I don’t think I’d come here again unfortunately.

Probably the best Thai food I have had in a while. Had a minor issue when booking as it seemed they did not have room for us at first but sorted in the end. Wonderful and polite staff. But the food was on point and exactly what we needed and wanted. Will definitely visit again to see if it was just a one off. See you next time soon.

Came here when visiting Cambridge and was looking for some spicy dishes and landed here. Ordered curry, pad Thai and stir fry vegetables. Overall, dishes were greatly spiced and smell really good! I would say pretty authentic place for sure. Downside? Price is a bit expensive for Cambridge. It felt like something that I would pay if I am in London. Overall, good restaurant.

Been there many times throughout the past two years. Feel the portion is getting smaller. The food quality was much better a year ago. The service is quite slow, especially if seated on the first floor. Take ages to order or even just to get water. The staff also would not allow me and my friend to take a slightly bigger desk (though we had bags and there are multiple empty tables and not at peak time).

Poor quality over priced food, tempura is especially poor, as was the quality of the chicken. Dont waste your money here, go to the Wrestlers on Newmarket road instead.. far better food and cheaper prices

I've been to this Thai restaurant many times, and it's popular among nearby university students. Every dish I've tried here has been delicious. I highly recommend their curries – the red, yellow, and green curries are all satisfying. The coconut rice is epically delightful, and their fried rice is also excellent with generous portions. As for Pad Thai, it's good but not as standout as the curries. The mango sticky rice dessert is sweet, though the mango can be a bit firm. For drinks, I recommend the “Tai Green Ice Tea” it's really refreshing! “Tai Original Ice Tea'” is also a great choice. Overall, it's a restaurant I consistently visit in Cambridge. If you plan to have dinner, it's advisable to make a reservation as it can get crowded sometimes.

The food is very good and the service is decent. It’s quite cramped on the first floor, but the atmosphere is nice. But if they are full downstairs in winter, know that the heat upstairs doesn’t work.

Very small and intimate thai restaurant about a 10 minute walk from West Road concert hall and on the river. Food is good, but oh so spicy. Menu is quite small, and has all the dishes you might expect. Fairly basic furnishings and decor. Staff friendly enough, service is good. Good place to visit.

We bidited this lovely place on 12/11/23. Had some finger-lickingly delicious food and provided excellent service! Waiters were very approachable and attentive with great personalities - they managed to anticipate all our needs. Thank you, team of Sala Thong! We'll have to come back.

It's nice to have thai food in there, I love the atmosphere. It's very good to have a dinner with friends or even for a date there. But sometimes I feel like the food is quite salty ... especially noodles.

Good food and very authentic but make sure to sit downstairs. Upstairs the service is nonexistent and they deliver the food cold.

We have eaten at this restaurant many many times over the years and always enjoyed it until recently. In June two of our family members were very sick after eating here although we cannot prove it was the restaurant’s fault but we are suspicious. Today we ordered a take away and it was very poor. We spent £17 on crispy squid and the tiny portions were laughable. I even phoned up after we opened the packaging to question how they could serve up so little. To be fair they offered us a free portion next time…. The chicken satay was inedible. We all spat it out immediately and I’m tempted to take back the sticks that were untouched because the manager needs to know how bad it is. It was burnt but not before it had been totally over seasoned with star anise which did not combine with the peanut sauce at all. We all agreed it was the most disgusting satay chicken we had ever had. Shame, we have ordered it hundreds of times over the years at Sala Thong and it’s always been pretty good but the last two meals we have had have been really bad. I can’t recommend this restaurant to anyone anymore sadly.

This is our go to place for Thai food. The food is delicious and full of flavour. We usually get take away and have ever eaten in but the service provided for the take away has always been great.

Lovely food in a nice venue. Central location ish if you don’t mind taking a walk. Portions aren’t huge but maybe that’s the takeaway size but the food is very good. They’re happy to replace meats with seafood. Prices on the high end for the size but worth a try.

Whilst on the expensive side, this is absolutely one of my top recommendations in Cambridge from a food quality point of view.

We had a great evening out and the food here is quite tasty, friendly staff and amazing atmosphere! Portions not bad and prices are fair. Their tempura prawns were delicious, never had such tasty ones. Didn’t like the duck in tamarind sauce , it was quite salty and duck was chewy/fatty. Otherwise all in all we enjoyed ourselves. Would we go there again? Yes :)

rice under cooked the same vegetables, very spicy and not enjoyable, went after high recommendation on internet, but most of the food landed in the bin: duck curry with rice and also duck with noodles nothing special

Almost 20 years (for us) of consistently good experiences - good food, comes fast, nice venue, pork belly and curries come recommended

Food was horrendously oily and they gave me the wrong drink

Meal was disappointing. Hardly any pork which consisted mainly of grisel. Very small portions service poor. All in all would not recommend.

Ridiculously good food - really enjoyed the green tofu curry, sticky rice and Thai iced green tea. Was on my own but made to feel very comfortable.

We had walked past this the day before but really weren't sure but I'm so pleased we went back. The food was great. We chose a selection of starters, a rice dish and a noodle dish. It was all nicely presented, hot and very tasty. The staff were so accommodating and helpful. Such a shame we live so far away because we would definitely be regulars.

We ate twice at Sala Thong in 2022 after a break of two years due to the pandemic. I am pleased to say that it is as excellent as ever and the food is all well cooked and delicious. I always have the thai green chicken curry as it is so yummy I cannot bear to miss out on it! This is a super restaurant which has been there a long time now and I hope remains for many decades for my return visits. Try and get a table away from the door as it can be a little draughty there.

I really enjoyed our meal last night. Friendly relaxed staff. Beef masserman epic and doesn't for me need rice as it contains potatoes! (A friend had tapioca which is an acquired taste, the mango sticky rice was just too much ontop of a starter and mains! )

We have come here a few times before and it’s always good. The staff are friendly and service is prompt but not overbearing. We love that they serve proper Chang beer! The food is super tasty. This time we had the duck spring rolls which were crispy and hot, and the pad Thai and udon noodle dishes were excellent. The kitchen was very happy to leave out spice for me which I appreciated greatly. It’s a small place but everyone is working hard and each time we come there are occupied tables. My husband and I also love the soundtrack in the background! Thank you for a lovely evening!

Food is always very good here and you can tell the chef takes pride in presentation. There’s plenty of choice on the authentic menu and you can get a traditional ice tea which is great. Close to the backs and good for a walk after.

I hadn't visited this restaurant for many many years, but my wife and I had a really great meal there. Between us we have spent many years living in Thailand and so both know good Thai food when we have it. I had the best Tom Ka soup I've ever had there and my wife had amazing noodle soup too. We both really enjoyed the food and will definitely be going back again. The restaurant however is a little bit cramped and it was quite cold with the door constantly opening for take away delivery drivers all night.

Can’t fault this , squid amazing , at last big pieces of squid 😀, spicy dressing that didn’t overwhelm the dish and plenty of it Stir fry full of flavour great spice ness , friends belly pork was excellent , we had lovely efficient service ( we had to be early and quick as off to they’re ) Will return to take time over a lovely experience !

Authentic, cooked like an authentic Thai home meal and presented beautifully. It is a simple place, don't expect to be wowed by ambiance but the food is worth it.

Thai green curry & Pad keang Jasmine tea & sticky rice - mmm Great service Very busy on sunday evening but staff did excellent job.

Had my birthday dinner there on a Saturday. The waitress and waiter were beyond nice but the owner/manager was unfortunately very unpleasant when at 10 pm she announced that the restaurant would close at 10.30 pm. She stood waiting, looking at us, with a very angry and disgruntled facial expression. We felt pressured to leave right away. She got our bill wrong twice and did not apologise. The attitude just spoilt the end of what was a very happy dinner. Good food and good waitressing by the others though.

Consistently great food in unassuming surroundings. The curries are perfectly spiced and balanced, with fresh ingredients. The sriracha chicken wings are the best wings I've ever had - a perfect combination of crunch and taste. During my latest visit, I had the gang panang curry and my dining companions ordered the fried rice with tofu and the grilled chicken. All the dishes were delicious.

Was one of my favourite Thai restaurants. On this visit they had run out of tofu, food was really greasy and over sweet. Service was poor as there was just one lady serving and she didn't know the menu and was lacking interpersonal skills.

Another evening of bliss with two academic people. Thai food made to traditional taste. Lovely corner restaurant where you can enjoy a great meal and chilled house wine or beer of your own choice!! Highly recommend if you visit Cambridge xxx

Superb Thai dishes. Red curry was creamy and delicious. Sea Bream steamed and served with a lemon chili broth was perfectly cooked. Service was a little slow when they were very busy, but overall well recommended.

Best Thai in Cambridge hands down. This is now our go-to for special events - just celebrated our anniversary there. Really flavourful dishes, beautifully presented. Quite a small drinks menu - my one suggestion for improvement! But in general a wonderful experience every time.
