Thai Somtum Cafe &Takeaway in West Dorset

We ordered a takeaway and the food was excellent. Can particularly recommend the beef and oyster sauce and the chicken and ginger. The service was very friendly too.

Honestly the worst customer service I've ever had! We ordered the set menu, which was £23.50pp to eat in or £21.50ph take away. We wanted an evening out to celebrate so decided to eat in. We asked whether we could take the food away if we couldn't eat everything and we were told that it would not be a problem. The food was good but not the best Thai food I've ever had. There was lots left over and the man serving us put it in some take away boxes for us. We heard lots of comments during our meal about how they preferred to be paid in cash etc. We were not told cash only at any point. My husband went out during our meal to find a cash point and withdraw £55 in cash to cover our meal (expecting just under £2 in change) in order to prevent awkwardness at the end. The bill arrived and this is when it all got weird... Our bill arrived and there was no breakdown just a figure of almost £60 written on a slip of paper. We both only had 1 soft drink so we couldn't understand the £6 additional cost. We asked for a breakdown on the bill, thinking we had accidentally been charged for somebody else's drinks. But no we were advised that we were being charged £1 per plastic box to take the food away!!!! I pointed out that we are already paying a lot extra to eat in (including the inflated costs of all items) and that if we had a takeaway at a much cheaper cost for the same food, they would have included the plastic trays in that cost. I searched Amazon and found you could purchase these boxes for £0.09 per box. Other diners in the restaurant made comments to us about where we could purchase our own cheaper food boxes from etc. I walked 10mins to a shop to buy food bags so we could take our food home without having to pay a crazy amount of money and having to go to the cash point again. While I was gone, I phoned my husband, which is when it all kicked off. Other diners from other tables got involved and pointed out that it's a ridiculous charge and it should have been mentioned beforehand, at the point of ordering. The waiter was saying that the boxes are expensive and that they wouldn't buy them on Amazon because they don't know the quality. £1 per box covers the cost of the boxes they buy. At that point the waiter got frustrated, raised his voice and stormed off to fetch the boss (chef). She repeated the same things that the waiter said, saying that they need to cover their costs and we needed to pay for the plastic boxes they had given us, claiming that we were being unreasonable by questioning this. This is when several other people in the restaurant got involved, agreeing with us and pointing out that they had never seen such an approach taken elsewhere and saying how unfair it is to add such a charge on at the end without any communication about it at any point. People who were waiting for a take away also expressed their surprise and disbelief at what we were being asked to pay for. Eventually after loads of awkwardness and embarrassment he took it off the bill and we paid for the original expected amount with the £55 we had withdrawn from the cash point. We were then asked if we wanted our change?!!!?! I mean do you seriously think we would leave a tip after all of that? I've never been anywhere without leaving a 10% tip, so ironically most of the plastic boxes would have been paid for through the tip if the poor customer service hadn't upset the entire restaurant!

My go to when visiting friends in Bridport, Always excellent authentic Fresh Thai food, Generous portions , the soups are amazing Wish it was closer to home Go you won’t be disappointed

Great evening with family and friends celebrating a birthday. You can take your own alcohol so the bill is very reasonable! The food is delicious and plentiful so what’s not to like?!

We found this place by accident. It's slightly tucked away from the busy town but once you are inside it's cosy and friendly. Food is very authentic Thai & generous in portion.

We both had the Thai Green Vegetable curry with one extra shared dish of rice with tofu. Delicious, tasty, fresh. Generous portions, even the modest amount we ordered we couldn’t finish. Would eat here again. Good value.

Visited here last minute on a brief trip to Dorset.. I've lived in Thailand for many years, so I frequently visit Thai restaurants around Europe to forfil my cravings. Delicious green and massaman curry, very authentic taste, hot in temperature, great portion and a little spicy, Perfect! It was quickly served too. Really friendly owner that talked with me about Thailand. His Thai wife is an amazing chef, I strongly recommend a visit. I'm salivating thinking about it, I shall return ASAP. Thank you for topping a brilliant day!!

We were recommended this place as we don't live local and were not disappointed. Excellent food, generous portion sizes, flavoursome and good value for money.

We ordered a Friday night takeaway and were so impressed! We had 3 dishes and the portions are so big we had enough for the Saturday too! The tempura vegetables are absolutely delicious, as is the pad Thai. Fantastic value for money, just bear in mind that it takes a little longer as everything is cooked fresh to order. Will definitely be presenting again soon.

This evening we tried to order food for delivery. After 25minutes of speaking on the phone trying to give them our address we was handed over to a different lady who took our details. We were then told a 45 minute wait for delivery. After just shy of an hour we called back to question where our food was and they informed me they had no order for us, and did not remember us making an order. So after nearly 2 hours from our initial phone call we had to start looking for somewhere else to eat. This isn’t the first time we have had a bad experience here. We WILL NOT even attempt to order here again. I have never experienced such poor service and telephone manner in all my life. Not angry, just disappointed.

great place the review which cricises the taxi driver is hard to believe the staff are friendly and the driver is a great guy its a load of rubbish i have no connection to the restauarant except as a regular customer but this is unfair

I called to place an order early evening. I was told to come at 8.45pm (1.45 mins after I placed order) The order wasn’t ready at correct time. Another customer was waiting also. He said he'd been there 20 minutes longer than he was told. No apology was given. Waited another 15 mins and had to send my waiting taxi away for another job. Costing me double what it should as they had waited. As I was told, it would be another 5 minutes. Was then told the owners husband would take me for free as I had to pay extra for my taxi and wait over 25 mins by this time. When he got back from a delivery. Now 9.10pm. I informed him I was told it was for free. The girl agreed this with his wife, the chef. I was then verbally abused in his taxi by the male owner the entire taxi ride!! I was made to feel like I was responsible for the timing error!! He was shouting at me that it was there fault and his taxi isn’t linked to the business and he’s going to loose money. Initially I was sympathetic and said they should have communicated that with him so it was clear. He completely ignored me, my partner then called to see where I was as it had been nearly 30 minutes. When I finished the call he stated shouting again slamming his hands on the steering wheel shouting that it wasn’t a “fast food restaurant” And it is impossible to get the timings right that it isn’t possible!!? Eh!!? I said I had rung 2 hours nearly prior to pick up and if they weren’t able to deliver those timings then why give them to customers? I said to stop shouting at me, it wasn’t my fault, my dinner is late, I’m out of pocket more than I should and I’m being told it’s my fault!!! He continued to shout and swear at me before stopping the taxi, at the bottom of the hill to kick me out of the taxi!! A good walk from my address, whilst still swearing and shouting at me!! Saying “yeah *** off you stupid **** “ laughing at the same time! The worst and Most unbelievable treatment!! I was left physically upset and shaken and obviously was then not feeling like eating the £35.00 meal I had bought for a dinner in with friends. I also had to walk up a dark hill.on my own after being abused by this man! Really upsetting experience. Terrible customer care. I will tell all my friends locally to NEVER use either of their businesses in the future! Given the current climate they should be making an effort to deal well with customer delays. They have A LOT to learn! As well as that horrible man getting some anger management i’d advice not taking orders when you clearly can’t deliver to the timings of them! I’ll happily spend my money Elsewhere in future!

Lovely Thai meal here, family of 5. We had mixed starter, spring rolls, chicken satay. Noodles, three stir fries and drinks = £65 which is amazing value for money. Food was all cooked to order, a bit of a wait for the takeaway collectors as it was being made (good sign if you ask me) a bit of a wait for our food and slowish service but let us be fair: one person front of house and taking walk in and telephone orders. She was doing her best and it did not affect our experience at all. Service was really good, very friendly lovely young lady front of house. Walking in to the cafe, it is very small ( 3 tables) we received a warm welcome and would go back again and recommend it. Reviews were mixed but we tried it anyway and glad we did. They were very understanding of the children and made adjustments to suit my 5 year old. Knocked off one star as my kids said the toilets were not the best, didn’t see them myself, so can’t comment. Not dirty but outside a little alleyway which to be fair the owner can not really do much about. Parking right at the side of the place so ideal for takeaway pick ups.

We've used this takeaway for the last 8 months and every meal has been excellent. The food is fresh, hot and - best of all - delicious. The flavours are not the run-of-the-mill Thai takeaway and taste more authentic. The service is always good. It can get very busy so there might be a bit of a wait, but it really is worth it.

I’m so sorry to say but we found this to be the worst Thai meal we’ve ever had. Mixed seafood starter - 2 elements rubbery and dry and the other 2 greasy and flabby. Pork Larb dry and tasteless. Pad Thai, greasy with just 3 prawns and lots of dry chicken. Looking at other reviews we are wondering if there are 2 chefs but we won’t be taking the risk of finding out!

This could easily been a 5 star review for food, but equally 1 star for service. So, food was superb, service was a complete shambles.

I don't think this cafe knows how to cook Tempura Batter. I had Tempura Prawns, my friend had Tempura Veg. The batter on both was thick & extremely greasy.....really awful! Also, the Green Thai Curry was tasteless, yet burned both our mouths....I certainly won't be visiting again.

We were so impressed. Ordered at 6pm for an 8pm delivery and food arrived at 7:55pm. The larb was tangy, hot and incredibly moorish. Pad Thai was seasoned to perfection and our starters were fresh and tasty. The fish cakes came with an incredible dipping sauce. My girlfriend lived and worked in Thailand for two years and said this was the best Thai food she has had since she came back to England.

Rung through at 5:30pm and they said it would be delivered by 7PM, waited until 7:30pm and they were rude on the phone, I told them to not bother but then they said they would drop off as soon as they can. He came and delivered and was huffing, puffing and saying he was late for another job. So wasnt bothered about our order. The meal was overcooked, dry and the starters were cold. Such a disappointment, and would not be returning in the future.

Don’t bother. We put an order in for a delivery at 5:30pm yesterday. Asked for 7:00pm delivery which apparently was perfect as gave them lots of time. Called at 7:45pm to find out where it was and they hadn’t even started cooking it. Absolutely no explanation and wouldn’t give a time as to when we could expect it so obviously told them to forget about it. Not sure how they can operate a business with such poor customer service but certainly wouldn’t recommend this place and won’t ever bother going back.

You get a lot of food for your money. It’s good because you get to try new things. I liked the spring rolls and prawns, and kind of liked the chicken satay. (E aged 8)

We were very pleasantly surprised by Somtum while staying close to Bridport. The food was incredibly well cooked, fresh and the portions generous. We’ll definitely be ordering again on the next trip next month. Keep up the good work!

The food was excellent....fresh, tasty and lots of it. Staff couldn't have been friendlier. Little bit of a wait because they were so busy (And now I know why) but they were up front about it when I ordered. Thoroughly recommend them, will definately be using them again.

Just been re decorated to a very high standard, excellent food cooked fresh by a genuine Thai lady, highly recommended, take your own favourite drink, no corkage fee, 10 out of 10

It doesn't look like much when you enter this place. It really needs a makeover.That said, the food was very good. Everything was cooked fresh (it took a while come and we were the only people there) and really was generous and tasty.I have tried the fancy Thai restaurant in Bridport in East Street but Somtum is much, much better.I like being able to take my own beer / wine because this means I can drink exactlywhat I want with my meal and it keeps the costs down dramatically.Takeaway is the main part of their business but this is much better than standard takeaway food.I look forward to going back.

Random date night out. Very friendly welcome Food was good and great taste You can also take you're own alcohol as they don't have a bar licence. Small venue and only sits 15 or so. Meaning you get more waitor or waitress service.

Visited last year whilst on hols and was delicious, visited this year again for a take away and was amazing. HUGE portions, more like a banquet! Great vegetarian food too! Thank you very much Somtum. We’ll be back next year!

Food was lovely with the sauces being exquisite. Service was attentive and we were looked after by a very pleasant young waitress.

We’ve used this takeaway many times but this was our first time eating in. Lovely staff, usual generous portions, but it did taste better in situ. Very reasonable prices.

Way too much sugar in the food, it was the leading flavour - the noodles themselves are very high in sugars/carbs to begin with, so adding more sugar / sweetness to it makes the whole dish a candy rather than a meal with individual ingredients you can taste, rather than just tasting sugar! Where is the colour, where is the veg? A completely orange dish with no variation in colour, looks like a boiled sweet, bad on your health.

Popped in for a takeaway as always ment to for years, ordered chicken Thai green curry and a red chicken curry , well it was the best Thai curry I have ever had, flavours were unbelievable,will be back for more . Lovely size portions and pice was very reasonable

We went here after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. We did laugh as it is like a cafe and they have no licence but no laughing at the food! It was the best Thai we have ever had. We had Red curry, pad thai, beef dish with basil and chilli and jasmine rice. All of it was delicious and all the food was cooked by one lady who was so busy with take away after take away.

We have had this gorgous food 5-6 times now always delivered fantastic food and delivered within 45 mins cant fault anything genuine thai tastes coocked by a thai lady brings back memories of koh samui every time i eat it !!!!!!!!😀😀😀

As a takeaway or a small restaurant, this place produces Thai food of an exceptional standard. It is very authentic. We have not had such good Thai food since living in Thailand. The portions are very large too. It is worth asking for the food at the level of heat that you want.

Me and my partner venture down to Devon/Dorset every few months to see family and when we do we make sure to stop here. It doesn’t look much from the outside but the food is delicious. We spent a few months travelling Thailand and when we come here we feel like we’re right back there. There are hardly many tables at all so book if you want to go in the evening. Lunch menu is great too. This places never disappoints us and I look forward to our return in the summer!

Excellent Thai green curry and Thai sweet and sour. reasonably priced and served with a smile. I would return.

We came spontaneously a group of 13 people (with 9 children) and we were served so nicely with kindness and patience. The food was excellent, and the fee very reasonable. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended!!!

Absolutely delicious food here time and time again, never been let down once and my favourite Thai restaurant by far. Great choice for vegetarian. Great lunch offer. Highly recommend this place and look forward to an inevitable future visit soon.

We have high expectations with Thai food as we are very spoilt for choice at home.

Whatever you do, do not order a takeaway from this restaurant. Firstly, the order took over an hour and a half to arrive, despite a phone call to check where our food was. When it finally did get to us, the driver was unapologetic about our unreasonable wait and relinquished any of the blame. This would be understandable, had we not been told by him previously that he is married to the chef and is himself, one of the owners of the restaurant. He told us that if we wanted any kind of discount, we would need to call the restaurant. When we revealed that we knew his connection, he became incredibly aggressive and started swearing at us, despite being told there were children asleep upstairs. He continued to shout in the street as he walked away telling us he would never deliver to us again. The worst customer service I have ever experienced. What a shame that the person who comes face to face with customers leaves such a disgusting taste, when the food is actually not too bad. Not the best though, so even that didn’t warrant anything more than one star. Avoid.

Thought I'd try this cafe by getting a 'take out' meal (my husband wanted fish & chips from a place up the road) anyways I decided on the Beef Massaman Curry and Jasmine Rice.

It looks like a 2-bit cafe in Margate but this place decieves the eye. The food was glorious. You know when a five and seven year old leave a place full up you're getting a decent meal but this stuff tasted fantastic too.

Firstly I have spent time in Thailand so am used to eating great Thai food. This cafe is wonderful. Went for dinner with friends and the food was very good and great service. And to the man who came on to get his takeaway then whinged incessantly about the bill, the food and argued about what his wife had ordered we all agreed he should get a life!!!!! The lovely waitress dealt with him well but she shouldn't have to put I with pains like him. Can't recommend this place enough .

Quality of the food makes this best takeaway in town in my opinion. Small seating area with three tables if you want to eat in. Don't be put off by downmarket shop front from the street. This is good Thai cooking at good value prices and generous portions. And no artificial additives or flavourings.

It looks like a dodgy cheap eats place, but the food and service here are surprisingly good. It's my favourite take away in Bridport.

Deliciosas y generosas porciones de tamaño especialmente el empezar, bien presentado y muy sabroso, sí era lento, pero cuando viene a pasar una noche charlando con los amigos y cada plato está preparados a medida que esperas, realmente no importa. También hacen un servicio para llevar, que es muy popular. Sin duda volveremos. Bien hecho.

Ok so right off the bat I have to say, they can be very slow. BUT -this is good food. My family and I weren't hugely hungry so we ordered the vegetarian set meal for two to split between the four of us as a takeaway. We've been before and know they cook delicious food. Well this was ridiculous. This meal for 2 not only fed four but we had tons left over!! Cannot fault that. Lovely, fresh - loads of veg- AND tofu (which I love but not every Thai or Chinese takeaway offers it). All I can say is you might have a little longer wait for your food than they say, but it's so worth it.

Went to somtum Saturday night with family. Food was great as usual but the service left a lot to be desired. Waitress didn't know what the food she was bringing out was. Quite a wait for the rice after receiving the main course and one dish was completely forgotten so arrived after we had all finished eating. To be fair it was a Saturday night and they were busy with the take away and staff were friendly just not efficient so although the food is always very good the service side is sadly letting them down.

Had a lunchtime takeaway from here, polite lady at the desk, food cooked in good time. Food was delicious, piping hot, loads of chicken (good quality) and full of flavour Would recommend definitely

As a frequent user I can honestly say I've never been disappointed. I've both eaten in (BYOB) and had many takeaways. Tasty and generous!

I have been 4 times over the last 3 weeks which says it all really.The owner/chef is a lovely lady nothing too much trouble.Great food great prices great welcome

OK. The restaurant area in a little basic (but scrupulously clean). This is make up for by the very high standard of the very fresh food. The menu is short but tastes delicious. Attentive service, and I must say how much we enjoyed our lunchtime visit. It has a small dining area with tables for about 12-14 ish heads. There was only 1 table left during our lunchtime so do book if you don't want to be disappointed.

This takeaway is local to us and definately our favourite.Service is friendly and the food is so wonderfully presented. Very good flavours.They don't serve alcohol but you can bring your own which is a bonus as it makes it a cheaper meal out. What's not to like!

popped in here lunch time we were and had two courses. One of us had soup and sweet and sour chicken which was much enjoyed. I had the corncakes the chilli dip was abit weak, the curry was one of the best I have had. Only criticism was the lack of drinks and it was cold in there, no heating.Would return good value for money

I've been here several times now and the curries and speciality dishes are delicious everything. My girlfriend loves it so much I she asks me to take her a dish back to Bristol every time I visit. Brilliant.

Food was amazing, cooked perfect and a bag of prawn crackers were thrown in free of charge. They arranged for the food to be delivered by taxi as the order was under £30 but taxi was only £4 at 7pm Will 100% order again thank you !!

We sat down in the restaurant and we were greeted by one of the loveliest waiters she was so nice. We got our starter reasonably quickly and it was delicious. bu tour main seemed to take ages to come but was also delicious also for a 3 course meal for 2 it cost £38.90!

We had a take-away recently starting with a mixed veg starter. Supposedly tempura, I think they have lost something in translation, it consisted of bits of veg coated in a heavy batter soaking in oil. The mains, Red Thai curry and stir fried veg with cashews were probably the worst I have ever had. No flavour, no heat and soggy rice.

We are local and it's definitely my favourite place for a take away. I have a mix of vegetarian dishes and they are always full of variety and flavour. Fast friendly service too.

This is a little gem! Lots of people walk by without a thought and they are missing a real treat. Great for evenings, lunchtimes and takeaway. You take your own wine/booze.

A very small restaurant but very good food and quick service. Doesn't serve alcohol but you are able to take your own. Price is very reasonable and the portion size is good.

We just happened to walk past on our way to the town centre. We had the 3 course set menu for 7.95. Place doesn't like great inside but food was excellent with large portions and quick service. My partner's vegtable curry was amazing. Would highly recommend it.

Wow wow wow, what a fab meal I just had sat in the cottage that we have rented thanks to Som Tum cafe and takeaway. Having family that live in Thailand and having previously eaten at quite a few Thai restaurants I highly recommend Som Tum, we took out and bought back to the cottage, food was still hot (thanks to a keep cool bag) we ordered satay prawns and chicken for starter followed by chicken green curry, pad Thai chicken, chicken with this basil, chilli, onion and coconut rice. Portion size is good and the infusion of flavours are great, if I had more room then I would eat some more. Had more than enough food for three people. This little place deserves all the fab food reviews it gets!

This tiny restaurant serves great food, at very reasonable prices. Every dish we've had has been great. No alcohol licence, so bring your own!

Came here had a great time and the food was delicous. I tried my sister and her boyfriends dish and they was all cooked to perfection! Will be back. Very reasonable price. Cant fault it.

Ordered a take away from here a few weeks ago, whilst on holiday in the area. The mixed starter was really good, generous portion and nice selection. The mains however were awful. The rice was stodgy (not sticky), lacked flavour and the meat dishes we got were gloopy and tastless. Wouldn't recommend unless that's what you expect from Thai food.

This was my second visit, my friends Umteenth visit and my wife's first. We sat in rather than take away, staff were friendly and helpful. Food was lovely and freshly cooked with a generous portion size. Will be back again!

Have had many takeaways from here - definitely the best takeaway meals in town - generous portions - excellent. It is definitely more of a takeaway than restaurant - there are some tables for eating in but not much ambiance - it is very small and so most of the time there are more people waiting for takeaways than sitting eating at the tables.

I went to Thai Somtum in Bridport with my Thai wife and our mixed race son (I am British) on late Tuesday afternoon for a sit-down meal. As soon as e walked through the door, the woman serving was consistently curt and rude to us. After putting up with this for a couple of minutes as we figured out where to sit and managed, after grumbling from our host, to get a high-chair for our son, we decided to leave without ordering. My wife was especially upset. Luckily there was a Thai restaurant up the road - Montien - where the staff and the food were lovely (they even babysat for our son while we ate). We regularly eat at Thai restaurants in different towns, make an effort to get on with people, and are always treated well. We have never experienced such rude and obnoxious behavior in 'any' restaurant. Disgraceful! Thai Somtim, Bridport, you should be ashamed.

Ordered takeaway from here for a Friday night in after friends recommendations.Fairly prompt delivery, amazing portion sizes and the food itself was decicious. Really good value as well for what we paid.Definitely better than other similar takeaway places in Bridport

The menu offers a range of choices that all sound tempting. The prices are pretty good, and portions very generous, with prawn crackers an added extra. Will definitely return. Really good and excellent value.

We hadn't noticed this unpretentious little restaurant before but decided to give it a go for lunch and what a surprise. It was the most delicious Thai meal that we have had for a long time for minimal outlay! The ingredients were fresh and obviously cooked to order and although the surroundings were not luxurious it is all clean and freindly and very helpful.Great for veggies too! lovely tofu!

This is a complete jewel in Bridports crown, the food is such good value, huge portions, lovely friendly hardworking couple that run it and are super efficient and a real one to one service. I am very fussy and this place is always consistently brilliant! Food always hot and fresh and veges all crunchy and nothing is heavy and cloying!! Couldn't rate this place high enough!! Highly recommended

From out of town looking for somewhere to eat early and with kids, and had a great meal here. Doesn't look much from the outside, but, lovely food, friendly helpful service, and a cheap night out. I'd have liked to have come back without the kids so I could have tried more of the food! Much better than the other local Thai restaurant who scared us off out the door by declaring they had no high chairs (despite being empty at the time)... Try Thai somtum!

Had a takeaway from Somtum this week. Lovely food and plenty of it. Would recommend this restaurant and we shall be eating there again.

Have recently had an excellent takeaway from here . Food was freshly cooked , good portions and great flavours . Lady serving was very friendly . Would recommend and will return .

Me and 3 three friends met for lunch at the Tom Yum Thai in Bridport, we don't often get a chance to do things like this as we have different work commitments so we very exited to meet for a lovely lunch and a good old catch up together. I have been to Tom Yum before and the food was great. As we were eating our starters we were laughing and chatting away, the waitress came over and asked us to quieten down! We appologised and kept our voices down. As I said we were all exited to actually get a chance to go out for lunch together so after 5 mins or so we were back to laughing and chatting. By the time we were just tucking into our mains the waitress asked us again to be quiet which made u s feel very awkward. We couldn't understand why they didn't want happy people in their restaurant!! We felt like we had to sit there in silence!! All the time we were in there we were so polite to the waitress (we all work in hospitality ourselves so we know what it's like!) And we were constantly saying how great the food was. But why should we not be allowed to enjoy ourselves??? I'm the end the owner came over and shouted at us!!! I could understand if we were 4 houlagans shouting and swearing but we were just four girls having a laugh enjoying our meal! As I felt so so unwelcomed I said I didn't want the rest of my meal and I'd rather leave. I said I wasn't going to pay as I feel so unhappy as our lunch day was ruined bearing in mind I/we all had a starter soup and only just started eating our main she still made us pay the whole £7.96 for a 3 course meal!! Otherwise she would call the police!!! It's not the price that was the problem just the whole bad unwelcoming service, what could've been a really lovely day and a lovely lunch ruined because they were clearly just in a bad mood! I feel gutted as I do love the food there but I will never ever go back there again!!!

Fantastic authentic thai cuisine and very reasonable. Do be aware though that if you visit at lunch time as we did on this occasion you may not be greeted in a friendly manner by the waitress. With 45 mins to go before closing at 3pm we were told about five times that we would have to be out by 3pm, yes we were aware of this but if they feel so strongly perhaps a cut off time of 2pm last orders would be more appropriate. To be told once was enough, excellent food made up for nagging.

The restaurant is quite small so we opted for a take-away, Had to wait a while as it was busy, but worth it. Good sized portions and reasonably priced.

Lovely polite tastes great not pretentious at all does exactly what it says on the box would recommend to anyone

This place has got to be good. My wife is not the biggest fan of thai food so i often have to miss out. Got a takeaway from the Somtum and low & behold my wife only says it's the best thai meal she's ever had. I can only agree as my green curry was a decent portion and excellent quality. We were even advised that the chef would cook any variation on the menu that we wished. Great food great service and great prices. It was all our pleasure Somtum. A huge thank you from us both.

Got two takeaways on two separate occasions. Not disappointed, friendly, welcoming and the portions were a generous size. Good value, will visit again when on holiday.

We decided to order a takeaway from here for the first night of a large family holiday (17 people) in near by Symondsbury. It was some of the best Thai food I have had and despite the large order, it was prepared and ready when they said and was a very reasonable cost. I couldn't comment on the restaurant itself as we didn't eat in, but if you like Thai food, then it is definitely worth a visit.

Bridport is full of great eating places but this Thai Cafe is our favourite. All the food is freshly cooked nicely presented and very very tasty. Jenny (her English name) the waitress is lovely, always has a big smile for everyone and the owner/chef makes you feel very welcome and will adjust dishes to suit your taste. If you want to have "real" Thai food you will not be disappointed at Somtum.

Don't be put off by its unassuming location;it is a restaurant about 6 tables as well as a takeaway. Well priced BYO re drink we ate as a couple 3 starters soup and 2 mains and rice for £34 Well cooked and plenty of flavour better than the other Thai in town

The food is delicious, and very reasonable and the lunch time special a bargain that tempts us back time and time again.The room is lovely with fresh flowers on the tables, staff are freindly and the very friendly thai chefess will cook exactly what you like to please your palate..
