Thai Orchid in Exeter

Have thought of going in this restaurant a few times when I’ve visited Exeter. I took the plunge this week and so glad I did. Wonderful service and very friendly and the food was excellent. Will definitely return when next in Exeter

This was such a wonderful experience! The staff were so friendly and made the perfect recommendations! All you could hear from around the restaurant were people complimenting their meals! The staff were really attentive and made our dining experience spectacular!

bang on city centre, minutes away from the city centre in a very old building that looks stunning. inside is a cozy atmosphere, loved the window seating! I love flavours but not spicy food and i was still able to have a full meal that i very much enjoyed! the photos do not do justice! the smell , the taste, you could feel every single ingredient! so lovely

My work takes me up and down the country on a weekly basis and so consequently I use a lot of food outlets. The restaurant is very well presented on the outside and lovely and cozy on the inside, and on stepping inside I found the service to be exceptional, the best I’ve experienced anywhere in the country. If only more places in general provided their level of service. I ordered a take away and I’m happy to say that the food backed up everything I experienced and was beautiful, so all in all a very positive experience and I’m definitely going back next time I’m in the area.

The Thai Orchid has been around for 30 years. I went there for my 21st Birthday and was amazed by the food. The quality has remained consistently good throughout the years, but the last time we went there was a change. It was even better! Now we are treated to incredibly detailed presentation and special dishes too! Possibly the best restaurant in Exeter right now

Wonderfully cosy atmosphere and friendly staff eager to help or explain, always serving with a smile. The booking process was easy and we were well accommodated. The food was delicious! So many flavours and the sharer set menu we chose meant we were able to experience a variety of dishes. It included starters all the way up to a fresh Jasmine tea to end the whole evening. Recommended!

Very kind and friendly service, marvelous food, and a really enjoyable dining atmosphere. Was a pleasure to be here. Of course it is not cheap, but the price justified by the quality and the place in the heart of the city.

Had a lovely dinner at Thai Orchid last night to celebrate graduation and birthday. The staff were lovely and attentive as always and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. I stand by the opinion that this is the best restaurant in Exeter, a beautiful hidden gem. Looking forward to eating there again soon!

I really don't understand the previous reviews of this restaurant. Totally overrated! This restaurant is basically just an upscale version of street food in Thailand with a ridiculous price compared to the portions of food you get. My husband and I have been to Thailand and also been to Thai restaurants in different countries and they have all been of various quality, but this place is by far the lowest. First, the confusing menu that you have to order either 1,2 or 3 courses and the combos are all set with fixed price. This means you are tied into a minimum of over £20 for each diner. There is individual price for each dish. So if you order something out of the combo, you have to pay for the individual extra dish (of which the price will be confirmed only after you make the order). It is a scam designed to get more money out of you. No individual priced dishes. When we asked how much for an extra appetizer rather than a combo we were told they would have to check on a price. As though it was abnormal to order a la carte appetizers. Completely ridiculous. Second, the portion/size of the dish is significantly small for the price. Please look at the photos and see our main dishes are just as small as the size of my fist. Third, the accuracy of the dish described in the menu is not what you will receive. We ordered a side dish of stir fry 'mixed' vegetable but what we got is cabbage instead, the cheapest possible kind of veggies! Fourth, and most importantly, the dining experience. We were there upon arrival. The restaurant is small but has two floors and enough space to ensure an intimate dining experience. However, we were told to sit in the middle of the restaurant at a table for two. Us being the only customers. Shortly after sitting, another couple arrived and rather than spread people out so we could enjoy some quiet and privacy, they were seated right next to us. At a table 30cm from ours. Regardless of the fact the rest of the restaurant was empty. Then, a few minutes later, a larger group arrived, and again, rather than spread out customers, they were seated immediately on our other side. So, in a restaurant with two levels and at least 20 tables they sat the only three tables, two couples and a group of four, all next to each other. We were surrounded on both sides with people 30cm from either side of us. Lovely people, but we all would have enjoyed a little privacy. Why they felt the need to cram the only three tables into exactly the same space and not utilising the space is beyond us. We felt like cattle being herded into a chute for a feed. All in all, there is no way we will come back to this place again. If you fancy a Thai meal, go up the road 3 minutes to Rosa’s. A modern spacious environment that will perhaps be a much grander experience.

From the moment we stepped inside we were treated like treasured guests by the owner Bonnie and her staff. We are both vegan and they were able to accommodate us without any trouble. Lovely place for authentic Thai food and exceptional service.

We have been to the thai orchid several times, the atmosphere is just what you’d want from a restaurant, chilled and welcoming, I had made a last minute reservation and took our baby with us. Luckily we called ahead as they don’t have any high chairs but we bought a portable fabric one that goes on a chair. They could not do enough for our 10 month old even bringing her out a little bit of food to keep her amused/happy and were so welcoming. We had one of our first dates here and would definitely be back again. As a vegetarian the only thing I would say is it would be nice to see vegetarian options with meat substitutes such as tofu or similar rather than just all vegetables. But the food was delicious ☺️ thankyou for a lovely evening🙏
