Really excellent food and service in a nice medieval style restaurant. Fair bit of waiting and high prices, but portions are great and the food is well worth the wait. Also the very friendly staff are helpful when about.

Excellent choice for Vegans with plenty of gluten free options. The owners are delightful and very welcoming. The vegan massaman curry is delicious.

We fancied Thai food on Saturday evening and turned up at Thai Orchid without booking. They were really friendly and accommodating. The food was lovely and really authentic.

We visited here this evening, I don’t often write reviews but the owners are the most friendly welcoming people and the food was excellent. We had a wonderful meal and cannot wait to return!

Popped in here one evening while visiting the area. We weren't that clued up about Thai food but the man serving us (who turned out to be the part-owner) was very patient and helpful and guided us through the menu. We felt very comfortable here and thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes, full of flavour. Would love to go back if we visit Battle again.

Think we went with too high expectations given the reviews but found it to be average. Nice enough but nothing special. Did think the garden though was really pretty at night and the service was great

We were visiting the Baatle Abbey and found ourselves hungry and desiring Thai Cuisine. We ended up here without reservation, which was no issue. We were seated and we choose a drink, 1 entry course to start and 3 main courses. The waiting between all these was way too long. We are travelling with a toddler which makes the waiting seem even more longer. We were seated upstairs and when we went downstairs to use the toilet I noticed that they were not that busy. The reason our food took so long was because they keep.catering for take away! I get that that is part of your business,but to make the people that actual visit your place and choose to spend time there wait a ling time seems like an odd choice. After 1 and 30 minutes and having just finished our meal we wanted to go. It took us another 15 minutes waiting at the till, before any member of the staff bothered coming over and that was because the chef noticed us and pointed it out to the waiter. I am not the person to walk away without paying, but another 10 minutes would have pushed me over the edge. Long story short? Food is great and the setting also but due to long waiting times I would order take away before showing up to claim a seat and eat it there.

Just came home from my second meal here this week during my holiday. And while eating the fishcakes the first evening, I made the reservation for tonight. Everything is just lovely. The owners are just the best of hosts and the staff attentive. And the food....you can taste the knowledge and the love they put in with the best ingredients. Fresh tasty and choice galore for everyone. Just go and have the best meal and evening you could wish for! And thank you again for the parkingservice you gave me! (Music was sometimes a bit to much for me that's all) Have a well deserved holiday!!!!

We were in town for one night and wanted somewhere to go out for dinner. Some locals recommended this place and they were right - it's an excellent restaurant. Friendly staff and great Thai food, and also in my opinion the right ambience... was busy on a Saturday night, with a good atmosphere, loud enough for us to talk without being overheard by other diners, but not too noisy. Prices were what I'd expect, portions pretty good. Can't fault it, and we'll definitely go back if we are ever in Battle again.

I have eaten here twice now and find it one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in the UK. They have an excellent menu that caters to vegans which makes it simple to choose what we want. The food is delicious and the front of house really makes you feel welcome.

Very disappointing - went here on a Saturday night. Was told they were very busy (had only just opened so were empty), but we could have a table if we were quick. We did. Themes of the food were that the portions were very small and hardly any meat in the curries. The starters were (no other way to describe this) a joke in terms of portion size. Thai milky ice tea was clearly just powder and water mixed with 2/3 a glass of ice cubes, no actual condensed milk - which should be the whole base of that drink. Basically paid for a glass of ice cubes and spoonful of powder in water. Service was disjointed. Asked 4 times by three staff during the mains alone if the meal was ok. No offer of a desert, had to ask for the menu as we were still hungry. It was lacklustre so we just paid and left - having first been shocked how much they charged for a rubbish meal. Wouldn’t return. Poor value for money and left hungry.

Lovely food but very disjointed service, would give them the benefit of returning hoping we just visited on an off day.

This is one of the best Thai restaurants in the UK. I have travelled extensively across Thailand and the food at Battle Thai Orchid is so authentic, served so nicely is a superb taste. From the slow cooked lamb in the massaman curry to the tender beef in yam nuae it is all wonderful and freshly prepared. The take away delivery is also a joy with Tim always having a smile and chat even when all you want to do is unwrap his wife's beautiful cooking.

Told no Thai crackers but these were being served to others after us Starters were ok Waited 2 hours for mains, others served despite coming in after us No duck in the roast duck curry Tasteless meal If you want a decent Thai go to St Leonards or the old town.

After regularly visiting Thai Orchard, my wife and I decided to book our wedding dinner there. Tim & his wife couldn't be better hosts. Not only was the food amazing as always, but the service and attention to detail was second to none. Can't thank them both and their team enough for making our special day run so smoothly! The whole family was extremely impressed.😀

Food was okay. Service was the worst I’ve ever experienced. We’ve been a long standing customer of this establishment but following this experience, we won’t be returning. An evening wasted.

If you want a horrific experience, this is the ideal venue. Take your kids for added discomfort. We were offered a Diet Coke on the house for the displeasure of waiting an hour between courses. Refused. Billed paid (in full). Absolute car crash. Never again.

The starters were very good, the meat on the rib just fell off. However, the wait was way too long. Over 40 minutes for starters. The main was also a long while, I was expecting more, the portion was quite small. I had pad Thai, it was OK, I would try something different if I had a chance.

Visited tonight. The food was absolutely great. We ate extremely well and the larger portions of rice and noodles were more than enough to share. The service at the restaurant was also beyond our expectations. I'd recommend a visit or two.

From popping my head into the restaurant when it was open after 5pm to the dining experience which included my favourite white wine to the food was exquisite and excellent. Including advice sought when selecting a dessert was amazing All the staff were most helpful and the head chef made sure we were happy with our dining experience I would recommend a visit to this restaurant if you want excellent Thai dining experience and I will be returning to dine here again when next visiting East Sussex.

passing through this beautiful historical town ,we decided to stay the Night and go out for dinner ,and stumbled across the Thai Orchid down a side alley, in the high street a rustic old building full of charm . Having a little dog we sat within the beautiful outside garden area which had an ancient impressive Acer as the centre piece .. we were promptly bought food and drinks menus and chatted to the owner and then his wife who is the head chef at this establishment, we asked her what recommendations she had from the extensive menu . We opted for Pad Thai / Beef In ground pepper / stir fry Prawns Oh and of course some Thai beers & a bottle of nice wine from the good choice list, The food arrived well presented and every mouthful was packed with carefully balanced exquisite flavours . Having travelled to Thailand many times we are not novices to Thai cuisine, so can honestly say this was one of the best Thai meals we have eaten ! This restaurant is a real jewel in the crown put this place on the Top of your list to visit !!

Despite only living a few villages away, I had never been here before. Went with a long time friend and I have to say what an amazing little place this is. The food was to die for...really good, and the service impeccable. This is a family run restaurant and they are such lovely people with a really kind way about them. Totally amazing experience; I think we were the last to leave. Please try and visit this restaurant, you will want to come back again and again! I loved it.

I popped my head around the door and was greeted by a friendly gentleman. I wished to give my order for a take out, then pop back after a couple of errands. My order was efficiently taken by the lovely lady and she told me she would go and cook it right away. I did not have to wait long because we ordered very early. When we returned to our cottage we could enjoy the phenomenal food she had prepared. I have not tasted Thai food as beautiful as this take out, in a very long time. It was utterly scrumptious. Highly recommend this restaurant. The location is up an alleyway near The George Hotel. You may miss it if you drove quickly in the high street.

Dined here for the first time,not again,had a starter of satay tofu,definitely not worth the money and the smallest of pots with a satay sauce,very bland,had two types of prawn crackers,then we waited an hour and a half till our main course arrived,it was only when the waiter come over and asked if we wanted dessert that we knew we had been forgotten or something not right, the waitress came over and was very apologetic saying they had a new chef on and the order had gone to another table and they had eaten it, really,why not tell us we had been forgotten,eventually main course came after hour and a half,standard tofu and cashew nut dish,king prawn red curry was outstanding,and the smallest portion of rice which the waitress said would do two people,but we could order more,we were not prepared to wait anymore time,everyone was very apologetic,we had two beers and a mango juice which we were not charged for because of the mix up,really they should of took more off our bill,will not be returning!

A delightful meal however small portions. Papaya Salad - Light, fragrant, good spice and well flavour, a robust mixture of combination of delightful flavours , presented well, really well made and sought. Satay chicken - soft and light chicken , lightly seasoned, the satay sauce could have been stronger in flavour, lacked depth in peanut, the small spice could have been enhanced within it. Salt and pepper chilli squid - lightly fried however could have done longer in the fryer, the salt chilli and pepper combo could have been stronger, lacked enough of it. Squid was fresh and vibrant, wasn’t chewy but perfectly cooked, fair sized portion. Green Thai curry - flavourful , light, spicy and fresh, really well balanced creamy flavours which was very authentic. Pad Thai - had all the flavours of a pad Thai, was very tasty and authentic really happy with this dish, personally I believe that iy could have been a touch spicier and a touch sweeter . But we’ll made and really happy with the taste. Pineapple Thai rice - lacked flavour, was a rather small portion as well, could have had more of it, needed more nuts as well. I understand that presentation of Thai Orchid is focused as bowls and a smart outlook but pineapple rice is renowned to be known to severed in a pineapple, many places in Thailand and event 5 star hotels and restaurants would do the same. The dish lacked flavour. Chill basil prawns - very well made, flavours were there and hit all the pallet. Was fragrant and spicy, prawns and veg were cooked very well, had great flavours and combinations. Overall I would recommend Thai orchid , it is a great place to visit to enjoy authentic Thai food, it is on the rather pricier scale for what the portion size is. The flavours we done well, it is an interesting atmosphere the Resturant is, a great asset in Battle. Really enjoyed my time.

Food was gorgeous however service was slow (after 1 hour 30mins only had starter) the manager did apologise for this later but then we had an issue with another diner who was very drunk and spent over an hour on FaceTime loudly speaking to a relative in Australia!! This was ruining the meal for many other diners and was never addressed by staff particularly when she became abusive and accused us of listening to her conversation ( which believe me you couldn’t help but hear!!) the staff even offered her free shots when she’d clearly drunk more than enough… the manager eventually sent his young female staff up to see what was happening.. seriously that should have been him .. we ended up leaving very disappointed with what could’ve been a whole different experience 😳

Nice venue. We booked an early table. Table go 9 adults and 1 toddler. We chose the set menu. £35.95 for 2 courses inc tea or coffee. Starters mediocre. Mains lots of veg inc crinkle cut carrots 😳. We did raise a concern and to be fair they did chat to us and provided extra rice and 2 pad Thai dishes. We came away feeling our £36 per head was not value for money. I’ve been before and it was much nicer.

We visited on the 7th April for a pre wedding dinner. we had an age range from mid twenties to 92! The owner and all the staff looked after us so well and nothing was too much trouble. the food was lovely and we had a great time.

There is much to like about the ambience of this cosy little place tucked away off the high street. However the food, although acceptable, could be better. One dish arrived in a pool of oil; in another, the potatoes and cauliflower tasted as if they had been hanging around for a few days. A appetiser was very small. Most importantly, a specific (and reasonable) request made ahead of time was agreed to and then ignored. With food, freshness, responsiveness and generosity is everything. Could do better.

I had a meal when staying just opposite to the hotel. By far the best Thai food I have had. Seating was ample and staff is attentive. Food arrived on time and it was cleared very timely. Highly recommended restaurant.

I hadn't been here for around 10 years, and it was a wonderful surprise to find friendly smiley staff, who were very helpful and efficient right from booking via email through to serving and wishing us a good evening as we left. A lovely energy in the air apparent from when we entered. Our food was brilliant - I've never had such crispy light non-greasy tempura. We didn't think it was overly expensive and we certainly felt we were looked after extremely well. Will definitely recommend, and go back soon. Its was also good to be somewhere mid week where there were more than a few tables occupied!

Love this place,food is always divine.Family met for my granddaughters 21st birthday. Some say it is a little expensive however if you like really good Thai,cooked with quality products what can you expect.
