Thai Mukda in Isle of Wight

My first time trying this place. Just like Chinese and Indian food it’s westernised to cater for the western tastebuds, but I do love their fish cakes and coconut rice.

We had a great meal here tonight with friends. The food was great, massaman curry full of Thai flavour and after starters and main we were bursting at the seams. This place is a great Thai restaurant, the staff are friendly and welcoming and we can not wait to return .

Wow.! !!!, service was friendly and helpful, the restaurant was very very nice, thai tables and chairs set out to look very traditional. Even the cutlery made you feel you were in Thailand.! Now, the food, VERY high standard.! The meats were tender and nicely cooked, they clearly use high quality ingredients, the sauces and presentation were extremely good, very tasty and attractive to the eye. I highly reccomended this restaurant.!!! It's value for money and the perfect place for a beautiful stress free and tasty food evening out.!

My favorite restaurant on the island! I’ve tried a lot of Thai food around the world and this is my favorite, the flavors are perfection! I love the green curry and the speciality duck with red curry sauce . Service is also very good. Accommodating with allergies

Ok but despite the friendly staff the restaurant felt as though you were stepping back in time. Food ok (could have been warmer) staff very courteous but prices a little on the high side for what you get. Had starters and a couple of main courses (so a few dishes) most of it was ok but could have been a little hotter and not really adequate for 2 people. Drinks as always over the top and an ok selection. A real Heath Robinson approach to the decor with random Thai artefact's all over the place. Bit like sitting in your grandparents front room in Thailand (yes i have been there) having a light lunch. Probably wouldn't go back but for some people they may think it is quaint and attractive

Walked in without booking on the off-chance to get a table for 2, and they squeezed us in between reservations. Service was very good and so was the food.

Really outstanding meals, this was the first time we have been to a Thai restaurant. We went with our lovely friends who had been before so could advise on choices. The staff were lovely and very attentive, the food was excellent and we will definitely return.

Good food, catered for allergies. They did starters and main courses without to much trouble. Would eat here again.

Had a take away last night from here and they served us up RAW CHICKEN satay. It looked cooked on the outside yet it was undercooked and in some places totally raw on the inside. We all ate this including my children and elderly parents Some are feeling poorly today. I am livid. I called them to complain and they basically don’t understand food safety and told us to eat the rest of the meal that wasn’t raw and offered to refund only the satay. Or told me being the meal back to them and get some more. I said it’s too late now people have eaten raw chicken!!! They only refunded the meal after an argument and the threat of environmental health. We have been customers of this place for years so they know we are not people to complain unless serious and not after a freebie. The owner was just talking over me and basically dismissing me saying how they cook it! ITS raw is the point so how it being cooked it is obviously wrong. It’s disgusting to put people at risk in this way and not an accident it’s lazy and dangerous to serve raw chicken. We had an issue a few weeks back but put it down to being a one off but not again they are not interested in keeping customers safe clearly. We would never eat there again and would discourage anyone from eating there after this. They have put my family at risk and I am appalled.

The Thai food here is amazing, will definitely return if we come back to Shanklin 😍 our fave dish was the dim sum, but it was all tasty and authentic. The crispy duck = 👌🏼

Raw chicken satay. Made our whole family unwell. Reported to environmental health. This place should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves putting people at risk.

This place is fantastic, great food and great service. The food is so fresh and tasty and cooked to perfection. The flavour of the food will have your taste buds tingling . I highly suggest a visit here if you enjoy great Thai food. The team are so friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. A great Thai restaurant and a little gem in Shanklin. Can not wait to return

We had dinner before going on to the theatre. The food arrived very promptly (Important when there's only 1 hour to curtain up). WE had a selection of starters, and the Musselman curry, everything war beautifully presented and we loved every bite. Great food, great service, very reasonably priced too.

We visited for a meal prior to visiting the theatre. The restaurant is unusual being an old building but the whole place inside and out could do with a renovation. The food was good, but not the best Thai I have eaten. I would not rush to return

Great Thai restaurant. The vegetarian (vegan) set menu A was delicious, and good range of dishes. Friendly staff, and reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend. UPDATE SEPT 2023 - we have been back, and it was still absolutely lovely. The vegan Massamun curry, vegan tofu pad med mamuang, and vegetable tempura (vegan), had great flavours. Thoroughly recommend

Went with partner & Kids August '23. We had prawn crackers 2.5/5, small portion, thin, 2 types, had better from Tesco tbh. crispy prawns on sticks 5/5, really good but sweet chilli sauce came in clear plastic pot. also had veggie spring rolls 3/5, crispy but lacking in flavour & substance. Mains, king prawn Thai green curry 3.5/5, tasty, 6 prawns, lacking in other ingredients except 3 peas, aubergine X2 & 3 strips of bamboo shoot. king Prawn Phad Thai. Ok, 3/5, it had 7 good size prawns, lacking in varied flavours. Chicken & cashew nuts 3/5, good amount of chicken, but not very flavoursome, mushrooms & peppers in sticky sweet sauce. Plain rice, 4/5 good Coconut rice, 3.5/5 good (daughter said Tilda coconut rice is better. Wine - sauvignon blanc came in a small plastic bottle 2/5, sparkling water 5/5, lime & soda 3/5. One glass had large crack in it. Service was ok, nothing good or bad, time waited for food was all ok. Atmosphere was a bit flat & decor a little random. Table for 4 was annoying as legs in table got in the way if everyone's feet as it had strange leg design. Table clothes looked great - sort of like quilted bed covers with tassels - looked crafted. Overall I'd say an average meal (I could have cooked at home). £85 so we scored it a 3 out of 5 . We would try somewhere else next time.

Nice Thai food. Change my stereotype about British Thai food. Try it if you come to Isle of Wright!

Lovely restaurant with very yummy food. The price was £20 person which included 2 drinks, main meal with several side dishes and pudding making the price reasonable. The restaurant employs 2 sittings for 1.5hrs per sitting and then you have to leave (6:30 to 8:00) and (8:00 to 9:30) so you have to fit in with the restaurants scheduled times. Okay until you you are delayed.

Enjoyed a very good meal here with a fairly late booking. The food itself was excellent and the service good. If you want a very authentic Thai feeling location then I have been to better ones but it would not stop me going back.

Beautiful! All the food is SO YUMMYYYYY! We order a seabass ( PLA SARM ROD ) is amazing! fish cake look like overcooked and dry but it’s not! tastes good.(RECOMMENDED) You can order a Thai bubble milk tea from opposite coffee shop and bringing it to Thai Mukda’ All the staff is so friendly and welcoming!! Food was nice enough but we were in and out in an hour, which is not what we expect for a meal out. Also don't expect Instant coffee in this day and age.

Oh, Thai Mukda, what an amazing place to dine in! The food is absolutely world class. We had two starters, 3 mains and a side, with Prosecco, everything from beginning to the end was absolute perfection, the owner recognised us from 4 years ago! The service was absolutely brilliant. Everytime we come to shanklin we will visit! Love this place! What a gem x

Our first visit to Thai Mukda was on a very warm evening and we appreciated the fans and also the net curtains to filter some of the sun's glare. It made the eating experience more comfortable. We also liked the sturdy chairs and cutlery. Lovely...

Fish cake looks shrivel up and dry but still tastes good. Pad thai is too soggy but tastes ok. Chicken skewers are ok. Mixed vegetables have too much sauce but tastes good. Chicken green curry is spot on. It's tastes really good (best dish). Plain rice cooked to almost perfection.

We came here for a celebratory meal. It was easy to book over the 'phone and the staff were very welcoming when we arrived. There was a good choice of vegetarian dishes, some of which we had not seen before, so we enjoyed three courses. If we lived locally I think we would return often.

The best vegetarian Thai I have ever had. Spring roll, V10 and Jungle curry... amazing food. Soo tasty and you wont smell fish or oyster .. so vegetarian. If you are in Shanklin and its raining.... what better than a jungle curry!

Spacious and atmospheric building in the middle of the high street ,this family business is a treat . The varied menu has all bases covered , and the food was a delight , fresh and authentic with salad carvings all served with a smile. A must try whilst in #Shanklin.

Food was of the highest standard and despite there being people in the party who had tried thai food before and those who hadnt, all were more than satisfied and said it was some of the best food they had ever had!

I ordered few things that egg fried rice and stir fried prawns not bad, tom yum soup a bit salty and I am impressed of the chicken on toast which is so crispy and taste good 👍

Overall not a great experience. The Waiter was pretty rude. The portions were small for the price, pad Thai not that tasty and Tom yum soup didn’t taste authentic at all. So not to recommend. Shame as we were expecting an authentic good quality Thai.

Amazing food with “ wok hay “ ! And great craving skills on the fruits . Love the Tom kha with coconut milk . Wish they have morning glory , coconut water and mango lassi on the menu . But overall, amazing experience ! Friendly staff ! Highly recommend .

Enjoyed the food, the starters were especially nice. Would highly recommend the fishcakes and Gung Makan. The coconut rice isn't something you get on a daily basis but would also recommend it as with the coconut ice cream.

Good welcome and good service, delicious food, very fair pricing and ambience ok.

Lacked flavour, heat and the service was somewhat poor - no acknowledgement of getting one of our dishes wrong. We were made to feel like we were in the wrong and treated as if we were clueless about Thai food.

POOR visited 6th November table for 4 - not busy pictures of food on menus should have been a warning ! food was bland, tasteless, the chicken rubbery, slimy not something you could possible eat. Broccoli the weirdest taste ever, sauces thin and again tasteless. I could go on, the owner deducted two dishes from the bill that were disgusting and left on the plate, but still happy to charge £72.40, despite no one enjoying what was serviced. Avoid, left disappointed hungry and would definitely not return or recommend.

Took my partner here on a romantic dinner date. Absolutely lovely food, roomy venue, excellent wait staff. Don't know how to make a very good martini, though. Granted, a martini isn't Thai food, so take that as you will.

Thai Mukda was kind enough to cater 12 hungry Filipinas. After hours of searching where to eat and after being declined by english restaurants, we came here. Ambiance is legit thai. Food service was really fast and thr food was great. Pad thai is always a great thai noodle dish. Balanced flavors of sweet salty sour and spicy I had a very happy tummy. We also had the orange chicken -- juicy and crispy. The orange glaze was a little bit subtle. Deep fried battered duck with cashew nuts was also served. Interesting mix of flavors. Unable to take pictures of what everyone has as we were famished. Glad we ate here. Thank you to the lovely Thai Mukda staff.

Would not allow us to book a table as our 4month old child is not allowed in the restaurant due to hot food being “around”. Very disappointed he is a human not a dog!

Always come back here when on IOW, great Thai food on friendly atmosphere. Good value as well. Spicy to mild you only have to ask.

Welcoming & friendly, as long as we ate our food by 9.30pm, when they closed. We said we could if they got the food out to us in time! They did! We enjoyed the food. All good.

Wow great thia green curry very friendly staff lovely place to eat

How this restaurant is rated so highly is frankly baffling. The service is well, condescending. You're made to feel you shouldn't ask questions. The only outstanding feature is the waiting time (i.e. 1 hour for a take away when there were no customers at the tables). We ordered Pad thai, Pad gaprao, beef salad and jungle curry. The food was less than mediocre. The pad thai had a sickly (ketchup) acidity. The pad gaprao (duck) had a jelly like fattiness from the skin with none of the holy basil flavours expected. The beef salad had a reasonably good spicy tartness but was packed out with raw onion and chunks of cucumber. The jungle curry was a flavourless gruel. Avoid.

Love visiting Thai Mukda, wonderful meals everytime and lovely, friendly staff. I have a couple of go to mains and regular starters, continual faves! It's put Thai food at the top of my fave cuisines list!

Excellent food and great service. Lots of vegan options - the yellow curry with tofu was absolutely delicious.

Curry and sautéed seafood are good! Fried tempura is okay…
