Fantastic authentic Thai food at a good price. Staff really spoiled my wife on her Birthday.

Thai Cottage has got to be the best Thai restaurants in not just Hertfordshire, but the whole of the UK. The staff are a Thai family from the Chang Mai region of Thailand and they consistently go above and beyond to welcome guests and groups of all sizes. I've been going to Thai Cottage with my elderly grandmother for over a decade and they remember her name and her order each time. The only thing that outshines the service is the food. Curry's that zip with flavour, pad thai that has a street vendor vibe and special dishes like pad gra pow which are true to the taste and ingredients of Thai food you'd find in Northern Thailand. Try the chicken satay, try the massaman with beef, try the pad see ew, try the penang. It's a brilliant local institution that is always full of life and the sort of place where you look forward to every visit and every takeaway. You won't regret a visit.

Great waiter but the food was average. The green curry was surprising bland and had very little spice. Overpriced for average food.

Always lovely here, this is the best Thai restaurant this side of Thailand. Very traditional with excellent service and beautiful authentic Thai dishes. Highly recommend this restaurant you must try it. 5 Stars

Food was nice, but we were under complete pressure as soon as we arrived. Staff were hovering to take our order, plates were being cleared before everyone finished. Didn't like the experience.

A great Thai Restaurant, excellent food and service as always, despite moving out of the area 5 years ago this was our 1st visit back since and the manager remembered us well and what we liked. Weeping Tiger is a must, pad Thai was spot on, and delicious salt and pepper squid.

PLASTIC FOIL IN FOOD We have been to Thai Cottage numerous times so I decided to take my mum and partner for a lunch there. Ive ordered green curry started to eat my food an Ive noticed a quite big plastic foil piece (arround 1.5 inch long) in my dish thank God I spotted it before swallowing and potentially chocking on it. Obviously I called the staff and showed them , they have brought a new dish buy Im not gonna lie that I was very apprehensive eating it as I was worried if I find something again so was watching every bite wich wasn't enjoyable at all. At the end I have asked for the bill I could see 2 Ladies ware sort of having dispute and I could tell there ware talking about "discount " one of them brought the bill to the table and I was shocked!! They wanted me to pay the whole full bill after serving me a plastic foil that I nearly chocked on!! and I had to ask them for some sort of compensattion feeling uncomfortable that I even have to ask for it after all. They took the dish off the bill but I don't think they have relized how dangerous was to serve customer with a big chunk of plastic foil. We won't be going back there the way we ware treated after the whole dangerous and unpleasant experience. Also finding this foil in my good wich looked like a foil from the "ready meal" box makes me question whether the food is cooked fresh as i would expect or they heat up ready meal boxes...

Me and my friends came here for lunch as a table for 6. We decided on Thai Cottage as it was very affordable and seemed like a good deal at face value. I order the ribs as my starter and they were amazing, the presentation was just as good. This trend continued throughout our time dining there and I would go again. My friends also got dessert which they said were great.

Wonderful anniversary meal, great food and fabulous service. The restaurant was completely full but the food arrived quickly and was delicious. Thai fish cakes were great as was the pad Thai and the giant prawns with red curry sauce were fabulous. Thanks!!

Tasty, authentic Thai food (and I've eaten a LOT!), friendly and efficient service, ice cold beer - and the lunch deal is incredible value.

The food and service here are always second to none. Fabulous!

When there's so much competition amongst businesses and so much choice for people, I find it hard to believe the attitude of some places. We had reserved a table for 2 for 9:45pm. We arrived at 9:44 and were told several times by the check in guy (turns out to be the manager) he'd be with us in a minute. We were corralled between the bar and other tables, nowhere else to stand. He said our table would be ready in a minute and pointed to a table in the corner by the front window with two people who were still sat drinking and chatting. They hadn't asked for the bill yet. The rear half of the restaurant had at 16/18 seats free. We were told they were closing that half of the restaurant down and he therefore refused to sit us there and told us our table would be ready soon. So, were stood hovering in a small gap between tables and bar, waiting for a table that's not empty when there is literally half of the restaurant's tables free. My "favourite" comment came next. The manager then said, "You will be finished by 11, won't you?". I obviously commented that seeing as we were on time, the table wasn't ready, he wouldn't sit us at the free tables that were plentiful, I found it rude that he was now asking me if I would be finished by 11 when they closed. When the table still wasn't ready a couple of minutes later he asked us to sit down at one of the empty tables, look at the menu then he'd move us when our table was free. We sat down, as we could have done when we arrived. We stayed where we were as I refused to move. Food was delicious, the waiting staff were lovely and attentive. But the problem here starts and ends with the manager. He did apologise and tried to backtrack about the 11pm comment, but by then the damage was firmly done. I won't be going back. I'll spend my money somewhere that has an idea of common sense and customer service.

Have been here a few times and the food has always been amazing. So much choice and have never been disappointed with what I’ve chosen. It’s very reasonably priced and is always very busy so definitely recommend booking in advance. Staff are very attentive and friendly.

Considering moving to Berkhamsted just for this Thai restaurant… the best we ever had, every time. The owner is great too.

Great thai restaurant! My partner and I booked a table - which I reccommend doing as it was very busy. Service was quick and efficient. Food tasted very good although I wish the thai green curry had more spice but they did bring me skme extra chopped fresh chillies to add in. My partner had mussaman curry, no lamb available but was substituted for beef which was fine. We had the starters for 2 which was great and everything tasted fresh. Pad thai was also delicious and had to take the rest to go as we ordered way too much. We also had the pancake and ice cream dessert which wad very nice and not too sweet so a perfect finish to our meal.

Having dined here on numerous occasion and the food quality not being very authentic, glad to report the food is now back to authentic tasting Thai food, the spicy pad Thai was really good as was the penang curry. A must try as always are the Thai pancakes. Look forward to my next experience!

Always busy…..Excellent food and good service always. Our go to Thai restaurant as never disappointed.

We went with friends to this restaurant having never been before, it was a Saturday night and very busy. They only have two sittings and it was confusing when we first arrived. There was about 20 people outside waiting for the first sitting to exit the restaurant before we could enter (take a umbrella). However when you got inside it was worth the 10 minute wait, the service was excellent and the food even better, you would think serving so many people at the same time would be a problem but it all went very smoothly and from what we could see this was the case for everyone present that night. we are going again soon, during the week this time.

It's our favorite restaurant in Berkhamsted. Very kind staff, nice delicious food. The only reason for 1 star less: over the years the effort decreased a bit (at the beginning the dishes were nicely decorated, e.g. carrots in shape of a flower etc. ) Also the prices increased a bit too much.

Good Thai food with generous portions at reasonable prices. The dishes are milder than most other Thai restaurants so order hotter than you normally would. Small but cosy with a good atmosphere so recommended.

Excellent Hospitality, the food is good and there is a nice variety of vegetarian dishes. I was not too fond of the deep fried tofu as it is a little chewey particularly if left to go cold. Overall the green curry is amazing, the noodles are great. The stir-fry tofu with cashews and the other dishes are delicious. Would highly recommend.

Food here used to be cooked to a level of spice when requested however recently (twice in a week) have asked for extra spicy and the request is not reflected in the dish. Overall a good place for dinner if like it mild. Shame, as they are catering for a clientele who don’t appreciate Thai food is almost always spicy.

We have been to this restaurant for dinner twice now and it’s excellent - we love the food. It’s a lot cheaper getting takeaway but we like eating there. I love their Thai iced tea My favourite dish is the coconut chicken curry with Jasmine rice and love the share starter platter. Nice desserts. My kids love the noodles and rice there. My parents loved it too. Unfortunately the restaurant is a bit small. Very clean toilet facilities. Definitely going back regularly.

Have visited twice recently, on our first visit the food was undoubtedly good but the service was extremely slow, to the point where they rushed us out at the end as our 2hr time limit was up (we waited 45mins between starters and main). However on our 2nd visit (for my wife's birthday) we arrived exactly on time only to be told that our table had been given away as quote "a family came in that was hungry". I was then told to go next door, have a drink and come back in 15-20mins. ! The fact that we was meeting family after our meal was totally lost on him. Having pre-booked weeks before I was astounded at the flippant attitude which wasn't enhanced by him clearly eating something whilst speaking to me. Our evening was completely ruined as we had no intention of waiting 'next door' to be crammed into a restaurant that had scant regard for any level of customer service. Unfortunately, this is not the only occurrence, last week a close friend also had a similar experience and ended up in the pub next door waiting for his pre-booked table ! - 4omins late So if you pre-book, cross your fingers and expect low grade customer customer service. Food is good though.

We came here for an impromptu dinner after visiting the Christmas lights at Ashridge House. They fitted us in no problem and were very welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious! I had spicy seafood with rice and the broccoli, and the rest of the family had a mix of seafood and chicken dishes. Everything was tasty and writing this review has made me long to have this meal again! Lovely place with great food run by a fantastic team. We will be back when we are next in the area!

Lovely food with amazing flavour, the presentation was stunning! The surroundings embrace Thai culture and make the experience more authentic! Service was perfect with friendly staff! Food came quite quickly and we weren't waiting for a while with rumbling stomachs. I would definitely recommend coming here.

First time that I have been here, and we’ll definitely be back! Yes, it was Sat night and difficult to get a table; but it was definitely worth it! Always great to start with a cold Singha beer! The mixed starter was cooked fresh; highly recommend the chicken skewer and prawn toast. For mains, the green curry was sensational. The nutty curry was deep and rich in flavour. The pad Thai was a welcome compliment to the nutty curry.

Best Thai place in Berko. Usually get takeaway from here and it's delicious. Eating in is a different experience because they make an effort on the presentation of the dishes so it's definitely worth eating in too. Every night this place is more or less full which tells you how popular it is. Staff is very friendly.

Fantastic food and service - really great

WARNING - to anyone who has booked this restaurant on the same day of your intended visit. Apparently you only deserve a table next to the kitchen doors - shame really as if this was communicated, we would of made the decision to either cancel or not. Instead we drove over half an hour to be told ‘well this is what you get if you book last minute’ In fact I booked at 1.00pm on that day and the booking was for 20.30pm. Sorry I didn’t realise this was an exclusive Thai restaurant! I won’t be returning as I didn’t like the attitude of the staff, who seemed to apologise whilst laughing about the situation. Was not impressed.

Visited on a Tuesday evening and was very busy which was a good sign. Food was very fresh and authentic,service was good and prompt. Can’t wait to return

The best Thai for miles! I love eating here, and the food is always amazing. So fresh and beautifully presented, I recommend the chicken panang. Also the house wine is great! Cosy and atmospheric inside, the service is so attentive and friendly, would recommend Thai Cottage to anyone.

Variety of food aroy mak mak!!!! We have been coming here for many years and we love it very much !!! Staff were so friendly and attentive ! Eddie is extremely kind and friendly . We will never go anywhere else! Ten stars !!!!!

Friendly staff fantastic food would reccomrnd

Went into the Thai cottage last Friday night after we had finished filming the cleaners with Greg Davies. It was very busy but the found us a table very quickly. The food was to die for and the staff bent over backwards to make sure we had a great time the food was great Would definitely go there again Thanks Thai cottage from bigalan and steve rock of SRS SECURITY

Food was excellent and it was possibly the most efficient restaurant service I’ve ever experienced. It only missed out on 5 stars because it was a little pricey. In line with other restaurants in Berko though.

We're never disappointed here. Food quality, size and taste all outstanding and equally matched by the level of service. Everything is super fresh. Highly recommend the honey duck.

This is a very authentic Thai Restaurant serving excellent high quality food which is also very well presented, like Michelin star. We have eaten here many times and every time it is excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Celebrated a friend’s Birthday. All the Covid rules well observed. Great service. Reasonable prices. Food is excellent and lots of choice for a vegetarian like myself.

We have visited this place many times and every time the food is excellent as is the service. Waiter are always very polite and food comes out quickly. Very tasty and excellent value for money. Also all staff wearing masks during our COVID visit.

When we first arrived last night it was fairly quiet and we ordered our food and drinks. By the time we were half way through our meal the restaurant was full and I'm afraid to say there were no spare tables or any attempt to socially distance customers. We had a delicious meal and the staff and food can't be faulted, but along with being way too full we were handed wooded dessert menus as well as the normal menus, all of which appeared to be reused. I don't wish to be picky but having eaten at a few other local restaurants recently I know that it's possible to keep customers safely apart. Fingers crossed that no-one in the place had Covid 19, because if they did I feel the chance of it being spread would be much higher than in other restaurants.

Thai Cottage is an absolute favourite of mine. I love the authenticity of the restaurant. The staff are always so helpful, friendly and beautifully turned out in their traditional kimono style dress wear.We shared mixed starters of prawns on toast, chicken skewers, vegetable spring rolls with a sweet and sour sauce. We shared our mains of the most heavenly prawn dish and chicken dish with sticky rice. The atmosphere is always warm friendly and very busy. It is always a treat to visit this wonderful restaurant This is a 5 star restaurant with an extensive menu and something for everyone. A fabulous place to visit for any occasion whether it’s couples, friends or family.Highly recommend

On a day out to Berkhamsted my wife had an urge for a Pad Thai and after a quick google almost “de riguer” nowadays, she decided on this one. We both loved the décor the charming waiting staff as it did look authentic. lots of wood, beautifully decorated. The Chicken Satay and the BBQ Ribs were delicious as was the Prawn Pad Thai for two. The portions were quite generous too. As It was part of lunch express offer, which gave an extensive choice, the bill was quite reasonable. If in the area again we won’t be able to ….resist !

Great location, tasty food, friendly and welcoming All courses were amazing and those with discerning tastes loved it!

This restaurant serves lovely authentic food and very large portions so be mindful of this when you order. The service is fantastic with all waitresses and waiters in traditional dress. The only negative thing I can say is that the tables are really crammed in which means as a couple you might end up sitting right by the loo!

Had the lunch menu last week with friends. Very impressed again with the quality and value. Staff very friendly immaculately dressed.

We have been to the Thai Cottage a few times, and although we love the food it is a victim of its own success. We have waited almost an hour for a takeaway, and when you get there to collect there is nowhere to wait and you are permanently moved about and barged. If you want to eat there are 2 sittings - if you want a nice leisurely meal don't book for 7pm because they want you out for the 8:30/9pm sitting. It also gets completely rammed to the point you can't swing a cat and you really need to book at least 2 weeks in advance if you want a Friday/Saturday night meal. We've stopped going because it gets too full and I want to feel like a customer rather than someone being herded through.

This has the best Thai food I’ve had for a long time . The staff are delightful . The menu is varied and delicious. Tables are quite packed in . You will need to book as it is very popular especially at the weekends

A bit overrated in my opinion. We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I regret following online advice - getting "Weeping Tiger Beef" was a mistake: it looked great but only half of it was edible (tasty though), the rest was full of tendons. For ~£14 one would expect a better piece of beef. However, if you stick to the classic thai soup and curry you should be OK - ours were pretty good. Pity that the meat was substandard.

Good food but far to rushed it’s like a fast food restaurant they rush you to much not enjoyable if you want fast food then go ahead

The food at Thai Cottage was amazing. We went to celebrate my sons birthday. Service was first class and we were made to feel very welcome. Cant rate highly enough!

Haven’t been in over 5 years and the standards of both the staff and the food have not dropped a bit, well worth the journey to get there. 100% recommended.

As a Thai food lover I can’t praise this independent, amazing restaurant enough. I come here regularly with my partner and have always received fantastic service and the tastiest food. Great value for money and far far far better than giggling squid. Myself and friends went here for a birthday dinner last week, all 12 of us were seated quickly, and all thoroughly enjoyed our food. Chicken satay is a MUST!!

Little wonder why we visited for my wife's birthday.
