Excellent food, reasonable prices. Booking recommended

Unfortunately last nights trip to Chang mai cottage was not up to previous standards. We ordered the sweetcorn fritters for starter which were bordering on unpleasant the coating very bland and left an unpleasant taste in mouth so could not be finished. For our main course we both choose new options As we to like to try new foods and unfortunately have an intolerance to onions which has meant when eating out relooking at previous choices. Sadly neither dish was very nice ordered a chicken water chestnut and cashew nuts dish which came minus the water chestnuts which when queried with waitress was informed they were definitely in the dish however never found a single one and we ordered a noodle dish and the noodles were very chewy and although a mild dish was very bland the fried rice came out as steamed jasmine. None of our dishes were finished and staff not interested as we were clearly not happy we left feeling underwhelmed.

Always good been here many times tonight was very good .

My favourite Thai restaurant in this part of town, we usually get a takeaway, Pad Thai extra chicken is the way to go for me!

Been here three times in the last few months since discovering this place. The food is far more authentic than I have found elsewhere. Staff are very welcoming. Would recommend booking a table as there is limited seating and it's a popular place

A very strange ‘Thai restaurant’ experience. The food was bland, flavourless, unmemorable. A salad arrived without dressing but with a peanut dip to accompany it. The salad itself consisted of dried out pieces of carrot and lettuce, white and red onion, white onion? Very odd. No cucumber, no lime and no chilli. Three staple items in a Thai salad. A chicken salad was also unpalatable, with rubbery and gristly pieces of rather old chicken. We returned that dish and it was taken off our bill accordingly. Maybe the real chef was not in post that day. There is no way of knowing. If this was food cooked by the main chef and they earn 4.4 in review scores the customers must be from another planet. Having eaten Thai food all over the UK and all over the world I know a little bit about what qualifies as authentic and good quality Thai food. This was a 0 out of 10 experience. A huge pity as a lot of people seem to recommend this restaurant but perhaps that is when the true chef is in post a big letdown. Was hoping for a quality meal based on the 4.4 review score.

Inedible. We placed an order for collection and were so disappointed with our food. We ordered a beef massaman and lamb red curry… they both look exactly the same, the curry is so watery, the meat is like chewing a piece of rubber we honestly couldn’t eat it it was hideous, the vegetables in the curry were mushy. We ate a few mouthfuls and actually couldn’t eat any more which is not like us at all.

Yummy and filling Thai food served here. They keep all your dietary needs in mind and pay attention to it. Good quantity served with lots of vegis and food is delicious. Had the green curry and spring rolls and both were served piping hot. They have seating upstairs and downstairs and have maintained old decor with poles n gives it a rustic look.

Visited Hemel for business and stayed locally. First time at dining at Chiangmai Cottage. It won't be my last. The food was fantastic. Really tasty. Great selection. Friendly welcome and service. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

Delicious and authentic, one of the best Thai Green Curry’s I’ve ever had!

Possibly the worst Thai food I have ever eaten. Not a single element was Thai, it was all Chinese food. Staff were great, very nice environment, but the food was just awful and not authentic at all. I ordered krapow and I was given chicken stir fry essentially. The Tom kha soup (coconut chicken) was extremely sour.

First visit with a group of friends. A Monday evening so we enjoyed the special deal. As a vegetarian there are lots of veggie options. Good quality food and lots of it too. Nice cup of mint tea too! Cosy restaurant with great service. Free parking after 6pm in the public car park just off the high street

Lovely thai. The staff are very friendly and go above and beyond to help. The food is delicious. They do a banquet on Sundays and Mondays which is very generous. They also do a set menu every day of the week or you can always order off the main menu too. Would recommend, its great.

Very good food and staff were friendly and good atmosphere

We visited this restaurant last night at the booked time of eight as a party of four. I suffer from an allergy to gluten and sulphites ruling out beer and wine. Previously they have always allowed me to bring my own GF bottles, charge corkage and be supportive. Last night they refused quite rudely. I was appalled at the manner in which they spoke to my wife. Fortunately the wonderful people at Cochin were totally accommodating and supportive. I am saddened as I have been a regular of this restaurant since we moved to Hemel. Sadly we won’t be frequenting the restaurant again as rudeness and an unwillingness to accommodate severe food intolerances and allergies suggests they have little respect for their guests.

We have eaten here several times. Especially good value is the set price, Buffet Menu on Sundays and Mondays. A wide choice of dishes. Well prepared , tasty Thai food. Nice atmosphere, efficient service by friendly staff.

I visited with my girlfriend and her family and had the best time! The food is absolutely delicious, I’m coeliac and their curries and stir fries can be done gluten free, and the staff were delightful - really friendly and welcoming. We particularly enjoyed the complimentary liqueur at the end too! They are also very reasonably priced for the quality of food. We will definitely be coming back!

It's a really nice place, it's also really cheap. But the the food was a bit to bland for me. I would of payed double if only it tasted better.

Disappointed with the response I got when I phoned you to order a takeaway. I was put on hold for over two minutes and when I hung up and tried to call back the phone was constantly engaged/off the hook. I am a regular customer with you and I’m very saddened by the service this evening. If you are too busy then just explain.

Charming little restaurant with an attentive and friendly team. Decor is a little tired and overall feels a little dated. Food was good but not particularly exciting and we weren't sure how many dishes to order per person. Menu could do with a little more explanation to aid diners. Prices are very reasonable.

Having only had a takeaway before, we decided to eat in this time. We had a set menu and a bottle of wine - fantastic value for money. The food was delicious and the service excellent. Will definitely be back.

This is a cosy and welcoming venue where the good service is let down by the quality of the food. The mixed starters are greasy and bland, the green curry was very bland, the Massaman was bland and too sweet, while the stir fried lamb was tasty although too salty.

WOW. The Thai Food here is amazing. The only problem is there is simply too much. The duck and coconut rice should be a must try. Staff are friendly, and the venue is really old providing a really nice atmosphere. Would happily come again. Really reasonably priced as well.

We had a really nice experience at this restaurant Sunday lunchtime. The food was reasonably priced, well presented, and tasted lovely! The waiter was very friendly, and gave us great service, without being too attentive. I can highly recommend the vegetarian mixed starters :) Unfortunately the restaurant has lost trade since covid, and we were the only table in there at lunchtime, which is sad, as it’s a great place!

First time there but not the last. Both the menu and set menus were full of choice and very reasonably priced. We had the set menu B which was very enjoyable. Great service. Attentive not obtrusive. All staff were friendly and welcoming.

Pitty there's no option fore 10 stars. I've been going here for years and never had a meal I didn't like. The service is great, friendly and polite, the atmosphere is cosy and relaxed mixed with very reasonably priced menu there's really nothing negative to say about Chiang Mai Cottage.

I think the people with the poor reviews are mainly in the wrong place. This is no steel and glass palace for sure but it is well cooked and very good value tasty Thai food with friendly and attentive service. Yes the interior is a bit battered but that is part of the charm. We'll go again if we are in the area.

Overly bitter sweet We eat at a lot of Thai places and unfortunately we wont be returning to this one despite all the +ves.

We had the course meal which is available only on Sunday and Monday. The portions are so big, you will struggle to finish the main course at the end. But the jasmine tea at the end helped settle all the food down. A variety of ingredients and vegetables makes each dish , however I feel all the food was a bit run down, like it is delicious but seems watery. Nevertheless it is tasty food, the ambience is cosy with lots of Thai elements, and the hosts were very nice and accommodating.

Lovely food and great service. The staff were sensible and wore masks. They were v kind and gave my friend a bottle of wine for her birthday. It was a great evening. I've been before and would be happy to go again.

Excellent service. We were a big party of 20. Drinks and food seemed to come through steadily and without any hiccups. Space was limited, but it did not matter as people were meeting after a long time. Food was good, it seemed to be too mild for me, but I am used to hot and spicy food. Everything tasted nice and fresh. Will definitely visit again if I am in the area.

Just got takeaway from here and was super tasty! Presented well and everything was delicious. Also the people I was served by were really nice and friendly. Great value for money too. Will be ordering again (or maybe eating in as looked nice inside!).
