Planned a spontaneous trip for a curry and wow was I was impressed. Found this place in Google read the reviews and menu and I was sold. It was a really nice restaurant very spacious. I had the cod fish starter I was so impressed that I was gutted it finished. I had the ghost zafrani and that was very flavoursome. There was 3 of us and we all enjoyed our meal. I will definitely be back

Great experience, 2nd time visiting in 15yr (shamefully) and we’ve been missing out . This place has improved ten fold . excellent service, smartly dressed and polite staff , clean and appealing decor. it was relaxing and we felt like we had a proper meal out , not a rushed cheapo Indian meal. Highly recommended, try to book .

I visited here on a Tuesday evening as I was away for business and I always look to find a good local restaurant. This had great reviews and I decided to drive down and take a look. For a Tuesday it was relatively busy and the meal I was treat to was definitely worth the visit. Call here to experience exquisite Indian food with great service and an even better welcome.

Visited for a second time recently with ex-work colleagues. As before a warm welcome from the staff, great service, professional and friendly. We all had different starters and main courses, all of us enjoyed our preferred dishes. I had Rabra Tikka main course , a collection of lamb and chicken tikka with potatoes, very very tasty and flavoursome. I would fully recommend this restaurant.

Very friendly staff, nice inside although cold in reception area!! Food was cold and my chicken was so tough it was practically inedible. Raita sauce was warm and chapatis were clearly shop bought thin naan bread!! I asked for sauce with my sizzling chicken but was told no they don't do that? So they couldn't put some sauce out of the pre cooked ones in a separate dish? 🤔

We took our two sons (aged 7 and 9) for their first visit and they said 'I wish we could rate this a million stars' and 'it was exceptional, I would really recommend coming if you like Indian'.

Booked and ordered table 3hrs before, on arrival all pleasant and fine. Ordered drink and then 30mins later still waiting to order. This after indicating to service staff (several times) that ready to order and was being told ‘2 mins’ on each occasion. I expressed my displeasure at this lack of customer awareness and attention, and was provided some lame reason that as my wife was talking to someone they (the service staff) felt it best we were left alone. Yet I’d indicated on several occasions that we were ready to order. Food itself and the presentation of how it is served is average. It is nothing worthy of a highlight review, although I do question why the main curry meal is served in a bowl and the rice on a small side plate. The place itself, or where we were sat, was cold, I sat with my large coat on throughout. If you like to be ignored, overlooked and underserved, this is the place for you. Otherwise stay clear.

I’ve eaten here several times and I remain genuinely bemused by the hype and the reviews on here (some from the same people🤔). When we arrived, the restaurant was freezing cold so we kept our coats on and some of our party did throughout the meal. The menu is extensive but I think quite expensive given its location. The starters were really disappointing and the mains were perfectly fine. However, for the cost I have had just as good meals for half the price - and been warm whilst eating it. Bang average and I’d love to know where some of the reviewers on here have eaten curry before to prompt them to give such gushing reviews.

Absolutely phenomenal. I used to live locally and came here often but haven’t been in around 7 years, until now. Absolutely amazing. I had the butter chicken with pilau rice and garlic and cheese naan and my mum had vegetable dansak with naan. Food was absolutely amazing and staff were great. It was really quiet for a Friday night but looking on Facebook etc it doesn’t look to be promoted much at all and reviews don’t seem to be pushed, I reckon it would be packed if it was more on social media!! Thank you for a great meal. We will definitely be back and will recommend!! Brilliant guys

Mustafa and his staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about their food which is always delicious. The restaurant itself is well decorated and furnished. We are regular Thaal diners and are always receive a great welcome and enjoy the atmosphere and food.

Delicious food staff always pleased to see you and helpful. Nice atmosphere. Eaten in the restaurant and had a good few takeaways too. Good value.

Went there on Monday night with my wife, my daughter and her husband. It was quiet (only half a dozen or so other customers, but what do you expect on a Monday?) The food and service were absolutely excellent. I had a fish starter (really nice Kundan Machli) with Zaflongee Murgh (chicken signature dish) as my main. The four of us had a good go at eating all of the food (whereas normally there is too much when four order a curry, isn't there) but the portions were perfect. They also brought out a very tasty surprise Birthday desert for me (having asked my wife discreetly if it was OK), which was delightful. Definitely going again as soon as I can find an excuse, like "It's a day ending in 'Y'!"

We regularly go out for a nice curry but this meal from start to finish was absolutely amazing . The staff were all friendly professional and attentive. The portion sizes are good , the prices really reasonable and quality fantastic . I had a cod dish which was tasty. It was packed with flavour and extremely meaty and good quantity as well . The four of us had no complaints and empty plates to which is a rarity . Can not wait to return .

Just returned from the restaurant and feel it was definitely worthy of a 5* review. We’ve been to numerous Indians and this has to be one of the best we’ve visited in the area. Staff are lovely and welcoming and the meal itself was amazing. Good selection of pickles, very tasty starters and mains (we sampled each others) and no scrimping on the fish or lamb. Great value for money. Needless to say we will be returning. Beautiful!

Visited with a friend who lives near. The food was ok as was the service but definitely not the best I have eaten in Barnsley.

I have visited with my family twice in the last 3 weeks, on both visits the food was superb in taste and presentation. The curries and starters were perfectly prepared and tasted fresh as did the breads and poppadum's . I Like the fact they serve Kingfisher Indian beer on draught, it goes down great with a curry. They also have a great selection of wines and soft drinks too. Waiting staff are pleasant, and polite and everywhere looks clean and tidy. Go on, give it a try and I am sure you will love the food and ambience of the place. Another plus is easy and free parking right outside in a dedicated carpark. We also had a takeaway from Thaal last week, and everything was hot and delicious, and the takeaway prices are obviously cheaper than the restaurant.

We didn’t have a booking but managed to get a table because we were early. Food was excellent, they adapted it to my taste and staff were very helpful and friendly. Probably better to book, especially at weekends.

First time visit to Thaal. Excellent food, wide choice and brilliant service from very attentive staff. Honestly I thought this type of experience when eating out in the UK had died out years ago. And reasonable prices too. Great night at Thaal.

My wife had a vegetarian byriani and I had one of the chef’s specials. They also made us a garlic and chilli naan. It was fantastic quality and very tasty. This place isn’t the cheapest around here, but it is very good quality and service is good with smart, well presented staff.

We haven’t sat in for a while for various reasons. However, the takeaways have been absolutely superb. Consistently good food from very friendly staff. Advise booking, especially at a weekend, if you want to dine in.

Food was served firey and piping hot which put on a display carousel which was a very cool thing to see. Our tables were good and the seats were comfortable. Service was great and so was the food quality was authentic. A must do restaurant...

We went early so my elderly mother could eat at her normal time. Food was enjoyed by everyone and the service was spot on. It’s a busy place so I would recommend booking, especially at the weekend. Great curry.

With many people complaining that they have to wait longer for their food during these testing times (they have obviously never worked in a restaurant before never mind in one having to wear a mask all day) I wanted to write a review praising the staff.These guys are literally risking their lives so that we can enjoy life's pleasures again! Our food was fantastic as always. The Tikka masala is amazing I thoroughly recommend. 5 stars to the team and a big thank you for feeding me and my family :).

3 of us dined out. The pickle tray was nice. The starter, onion barjis, unfortunately lacked heat/flavour and were quite greasy. The main, Kerella, was ok but overall the entire meal was dissapointing for me and my friends. The diet coke was flat and the replacement drink was flat again! The decor was dated and the dining area was in need of a lick of paint. Overall, dissapointing.

Not sure if anyone is reading this but the food tonight was superb. Busy for a Wednesday but everyone distanced. If you like naan, you have to try theirs. Excellent service, excellent food, what more can you want? Give it a try.

Nice food not very good service one drink through out the meal. No vegan options for my friend so they didn't have anything to eat never usually a problem in an Indian restaurant they usually make something

Never again came here with party of 20 when arrived got told there no booking for 25 only booking for 5 but spelt my uncles name wrong then they apparently found the proper booking 25 people got told to wait out side so we waited a hour for a table but laugh was more people was going in while we was waiting out side they must of heard us saying we going to someone house and order in as they came out to tell us are table was ready but there where 2 separate table at each side of the room order a drinks with names and waited a hour half for a drinks then he only put drinks on table 1 laugh there kids on that table and there would a drank vodka and coke my cousin told them the rest sat on other table but left are drink on there table but us on the second had to take drink back as it taste like water are drinks not coke cola or beer taste like a hour took are food order took table one food order with names took table 2 order a hour half after table 2 food starter and main but table 1 who had kids had to wait 2 half hour for food when table was going table got there food when we was going to pay for a meal the manger if he no was 25 of us 5 people walked out while waiting he said would not have book us in at all our food was ok but my cousin didn’t get knife forks for there starter

Excellent food, post COVID 19 .we visited tonight, and had a great meal, all very calm and professional staff, all wearing masks or visors. Loads of space between tables. They were really busy as it was day 2 of Eat out to help, but we were really impressed at the service. Really lovely to see so many families out enjoying their meal.

Best indian in Barnsley. Eat here anyday. Not rushed very polite and decent portions. Cant wait to return.

Dined here last night with friends. The food was ok but we found the service poor. My partner had to wait ages at the bar before being served, as the barmaid dealt with orders from the waiters and ignored him. We sat for a while in the bar area, again largely ignored, until someone came to take our order before we’d even been given any menus. The manager and another member of staff were polite and professional, but the young waiters were careless and downright rude. Worst of all was the clientele at a neighbouring table, who were loud, vulgar and using foul language! I know that the management can’t control who dines there, but they could have asked them to behave and speak appropriately. They could also have refused to serve any more drinks to one of the party, an incoherent man in a baseball cap who could barely stand up, had to be practically carried outside and finally vomited in front of the door to the restaurant! At no point did we receive an apology for having to put up with this behaviour. Needless to say, another visit is not high on our agenda.

Visited here for the first time with my wife on Saturday and have to say everything was excellent! Really nice staff, great service and the food was out of this world! We'll definitely be back

Recently visited Thaal with my wife for the first time. We were impressed by the menu when looking online so decided to book a table. On arrival (around 5 mins early) we were asked to take a seat in the bar area as no tables were ready yet. I drinks order was taken and brought to us whilst we waited. After around 20mins of waiting, a member of staff showed us the menu and returned to take our food order (still no sign of our booked table now half an hour passed the booked time!). Eventually we were shown to our table and our food arrived after around 5-10 mins. The young waiting staff didn't seem very happy, no smiles or polite check backs, and whilst serving the food they pretty much dropped the plates on the table rather than placing them!The food itself was actually very good, nicely cooked and spiced and portions generous. Upon asking for the bill, I asked the older gentleman on the restaurant floor as the younger members of staff all appeared to have gathered by the kitchen door. After 20 mins it still hadn't arrived so asked again... I went straight to the bar to pay, as by now over 30 mins had passed after finishing our food and requesting our bill.It's a shame really as the food was very good, but the service just wasn't good enough.

Visited last night with my wife and close friend and his wife. It has been years since I been and always remembered it to be very good, alas sadly it has not upheld this standard and is now on the lesser side of average just like Dil Raj.Upon arrival it took us 20 minutes to be seated to the table we had booked for 7pm. The drinks menu had a well known soft drink unavailable despite it being a Saturday night. The service was horrific, there was little waiting staff available to whom seem less than interested.It took an age for someone to come and take our order, eventually when the starters did arrive they were wrong and not very exciting, the main course even though was palatable took an hour and twenty minutes to arrive. Additional drinks were ordered but never arrived.Upon leaving and requesting the bill the price bill was extortionate, lots of drinks on the Bill we had never even ordered, despite some we had ordered never arriving! When questioned we had £1 removed from our bill for a beer, despite the additional drinks. Yes that was 1% off our bill.In conclusion, we have been looking around the Barnsley area for the best Indian and sadly Thaal is now a shadow of its former self blending into the paltry realms of other sub-par Indian restaurants in the area.We shall not be returning.

We booked a table in the hope that it would reduce some of the waiting time. Unfortunately it was half an hour before anyone bothered to take our drinks order. Thaal was tremendously understaffed this evening. We had wrong orders being brought to our table, drinks requested were ignored and after requesting the bill, 20 minutes passed before I figured it was best for us to go to the front desk.This is the first time I've had to write a negative review, and the food was decent, but the service is the worst I've encountered in years of dining. The table at the side of us said that it's normally good but tonight, they said it was poor.Perhaps we visited on an off night. But to spend £100 on food and drinks and be ignored/neglected, it leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

Have been to Thaal and have ordered takeaway, plenty of times. The food is lovely, fresh and hot when served in the resturant. Although the takeaway food is fresh, it isn't always hot however, it is what you expect when you when you order food to takeaway. Overall, not had a bad experience from Thaal, will return in the future!

Me and my family regularly come her for birthdays and new years eve. The food is always fantastic, the staff are friendly. Even on new years eve when it's totally packed they make sure we are OK and everything is OK.

My 2nd visit to Thaal, all staff are very welcoming and polite, the food is fantastic would recommend the Jall Horin Nagawala dish (marinated venison cooked in hot sauce topped with honey) very nice. Will definitely be returning

This place continues to provide an amazing experience with food and service. The new waiter was lovely and seemed to fit in well. Food was as perfect as ever. Can’t fault it in any way.

The food here is consistently very good. They adapt a dish for me to give it more chilli, but without losing the taste. They can get busy at weekends so might be worth booking. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Worth a visit.

This is the best restaurant for Indian food. We eat her at least twice a month if not more and the food and service is beyond excellent. The chefs will accommodate any tastes and help in deciding the perfect meal. They have huge knowledge about the food they serve and will always adjust for your liking. An absolute must to eat here.

Ate here on Wednesday night with friends. The £9.95 offer is excellent value. Starter, main and side. Onion bharji was gorgeous. Vegetarian main course was amazing. Service was excellent.

We went as a family of six as it was my fathers 77th birthday. We all had starters which were lovely and fresh followed by a variation in meals consisting of fish, chicken and a vegetarian dish all cooked to perfection. Our son has a nut allergy of which they were absolutely on the ball with this. My one and only disappointment would be that my fathers birthday was not acknowledged during the meal perhaps a little something with a candle would have been a lovely gesture. Other than this the food, service and ambience was very good. We will return. x

Always had lovely meals here before, however tonight there was over half an hour wait between starter and main course. Also there were children running around at 9.30pm as if it was a playground not the type of thing you would expect

We booked a table for six people for a Birthday bash. Table was ready on arrival ,plenty of room for al. We started with popadom and pickle tray , plenty for all. I had an onion bargee starter, best ever. ordered the tandoori mixed grill , there was so much, I thought it was for the whole table to share. Service was unhurried but attentive. Washed down with ice cold beer. Excellent.

We had 2 chicken dishes, the tase and spices were good, BUT the chicken was hard and dry, not nice. You expect better for the price as it was the chefs specials!!

Booked table for 5 people last night, was busy on arrival shown to table which was a high bench style, and was a little awkward for one of our party who has trouble walking, our fault for not mentioning when booking.

I visited with several friends and it was fantastic. The food was absolutely fantastic. The portion size was perfect and the flavours where excellent. Everything we was flourless.

Authentic tasty Asian food, good customer service, caters for vegetarians and can adapt dishes to personal liking. We go regularly with free ends for a good meal out

the food is always very good the atmosphere is buzzing i would say booking is essential on a Saturday, the service at the star is sometimes a little slow having 2 different waiters to take your orders,however after ordering it becomes very quick service on a couple of times had to ask the waiter to come back later as one of us was still eating, however do let this put you off the food is always very very good

Visited Satruday night with some friends and had a fantastic time, service was perfect as was the food. We all enjoyed our fish starters and we all tried something different for the main course after some useful advice from the waiter, and really enjoyed them. Well worth a visit, even more so with the updated decor. Even you like it hot, order the chilli rice too!

Disappointed really had hi hopes for this place just a bog standard curry chicken madras garlic chicken mushroom rice Bombay potatoes plain naan paratha garlic chicken tasted burnt not a pleasant taste atall chicken madras chicken was solid not melt in mouth like people said potatoes were not bad naan bread was doughy with sesame seeds on it who has sesame seeds on naan bread paratha was thick not thin and crispy like it should be I know a good special curry place and this is by far not one won’t be going back when we started eating it I didn’t say anything to my wife just to check her reaction she immediately said what’s this it’s horrible and we ended up chucking it in bin what a waste of a journey and money even pint of carling was flat whilst waiting for take away staff are really nice that’s it - didn’t end up sending this review last December thought I would give it another go so we went again last night 14th April 2019 me my wife and son just a take away even worse this time round nobody was in totally empty I said we’re is everyone he said he didn’t know must be school holidays we tried garlic chicken chicken bhuna chicken madras paratha naan bread exactly like last time worse curry I’ve ever eaten don’t understand people liking this place they must be drunk whilst eating it never again waste of time travelling and even worse waste of money shocking place

Love this place and the experience of going out to eat, they do do take out which I have tried but it's not the same and lacks the atmosphere, the waiter that we had was fab and knew his wine, advising which would go best with what dish... And this was spot on. Had a great meal and the service was second to none thanks.

We haven’t been to the Thaal in a longtime but decided to go for a meal this evening. We went early and were greeted by the manager and ordered drinks and food. The food was exceptional and the service top notch. We have no criticism whatsoever and would not hesitate in recommending a visit. Thanks for a lovely evening.

I am a big fan of Thaals and have been for many years, the food is beautiful everytime and good service. However our last 2 visits have proven that the food is still excellent but the service is poor due to over-booking! We visited most recently for my birthday. We rang to book for 7.30pm and was to move to 8pm due to being busy - that's fine. Arrived for 8pm to be stood at the bar for 30mins and asked 3 times what we wanted, we have booked a table we kept repeating and ended up grabbing a waiter and asked if there was a table or not as we could go elsewhere n not have a ruined evening. Suddenly got a table. Sat and received someone elses pickle tray and they got ours so we resolved between ourselves. Cleared and then an hour later asked if we wanted drinks....we said no food would be better it is now nearly 10pm and we still have not had our starters!!! They suddenly appeared so I don't want to know how long they were under the hotplate. As we were tucking into our starters a waiter stopped us and asked if he could through the bar tabs with us as he cannot find our bar drinks order........well, I couldnt believe it and explained clearly why that conversation was not going to happen. He quickly left. Starters cleared and got our mains fine. Unfortunately it was now 11pm when we finished eating and consequently not offered hot towels, deserts or coffees....just a big prompt it was closing time!

Visited last night, party of 6 for my wife's birthday. I'd booked the meal a week before for 8pm. Arrived 20 mins early, the restaurant was busy so ordered a drink at the bar and let the staff know we'd arrived. We had to remind them 3 or 4 time, they finally took us to our table at 20 to 9 only to find people still sitting there, just about to leave, plates and glasses all over the table. Instead of the staff member trying to explain anything to us he ran off through a door in to the kitchen and just left us standing in the middle of the restaurant. We returned to the bar to ask what was going on. Waited another 5-10 mins and were asked to go back through. We then waited a good 20mins without anyone coming to us so had to ask for some one to take our orders. 10 minutes later and still nothing! In the end we left. Usually I expect to leave a restaurant with a full stomach and an empty wallet, this time however was the other way around. Worst service I have ever experienced. We will not return.

This is the best venison curry on the market. The restaurant is spotless, you can easily book a table online. Never had anything other than a first class curry. Service is also second to none. Well worth a visit.

Best pickle tray ever, 2 great starters and tasty main course with rice and naan. Unobtrusive service - we’ve found a new favourite curry house.

Tonight was my second visit with friends and was just as good as first time. We had drinks in the bar area and then we were shown to our table. We had the £9.99 deal for starter, main and side which is excellent value. We added poppadoms too withthe pickle tray. Pickle tray was lovely and fresh. Loved the lime pickle. Could have done with slighly bigger pickle tray. Food was delicious. I had vegetable curry which I really enjoyed. Will return.

We’ve always had takeaway but never sat in and always been good food. This time we went with friends and the food was superb. Service was excellent and the newly redecorated premises look great. Worth a visit.

Excellent service the staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is very well presented and both lamb and chicken were both great quality I tried 5 of the different dishes ordered and all had a great taste with plenty of flavour. We will definitely be going back. Highly recommend

Another lovely meal with family. We've enjoyed special family occasions here, we're always welcomed like old friends. Sam & his colleagues always look after us. The refurbishments look fabulous. We'll be back soon.

We go to this Indian regularly, good food at a good price with friendly staff would definitely recommend trying

Always like the Thaal and we have never had a bad meal. Recently visited and the food was amazing as usual. Staff are friendly and attentive. I had a chicken tikka balti which is one of he best I've tasted. I have noticed that it's not as busy as it used to be, our visit was a Saturday night and there was loads of room, you would have had to ensure you booked at one time. Highly recommend a visit.

We visited this restaurant last weekend we have been about three times before.

I only visit when I visit my elderly mum. Been last night and this and the welcome is great. Staff very friendly and food excellent. They adapt my food just as I ask. Always look forward to visiting when back “home”. Give it a try.

Our friends came to stay with us for the bank holiday weekend. When they asked us about food and where is best to eat I couldn't think of a better place. Our friends loved the food we did too.
