Tasty Plaice in Sheffield

These were hands down the best fish n chips I’ve tasted in a long while. The service was fast and efficient. The chips were absolutely delicious. I’d highly recommend this place.

Called today for takeout and was very unhappy with the food firstly girl who served me left food on top of tray She put vinegar on tepid kebab meat and cold rissole and chips Unhygienic no hair net or gloves and terrible attitude didn’t get side of peas poor service her attitude was disrespectful

£6 for Jacket Potato thats actually size of Baby Potato and on the top charging extra for a drop of extra toppings. Definitely not coming back again.

Why your staff charging cash for few drops of dips. Didn't take away in the plastic bowl. just poured few drops in the top of the dish.This is very disappointing service.

Never usually leave a review, but by far the best Chippy around, I would definitely choose meadowhall over and over again over any chip shop in the area !

I come here for the mixed meat or fish & chips. Haven’t really tried anything else on the menu. Food is nice but a little expensive for what it is but is expected given the location.

Only fish and chip shop I know of that does veggie battered sausage. I travel 20 mins just to come here.

I have been having this place's cod and chips for years. My fondest memories is during my time at university in Nottingham, to come home every Friday evening from the train Meadowhall station, and always ordering the cod/chips here to eat at home. This place serves the best fish and chips I have ever tasted, and perhaps will be for my life. Unlike the common chippies which serve greasy slop and more batter than actual fish, this place actually serves the crispiest and least greasy fish and chips ever! The aroma and taste of the cod and chips are unique, no other fish and chip place has this shop's unique tastes. The portion size is smaller than your usual fish/chip portion, but it always leaves me feeling satisfactory full, as opposed to the "you ate too much" full. It is on the expensive side, but for the taste, it's a price worth paying. The staff actually listens to your instructions if you put directions on your Just Eat or Uber Eats order, like if you want pepper sachets or peas in a pot. Some of the staff here I recognise and they have been here for many years. This establishment and staff deserves the 5 stars. Keep it up, and I will look forward to my next order from here! As of 17/4/2024, I have amended my review from 5 stars to 1 star. The price increases for the same portion/service is abysmal. I remember it used to be £6.99 or less for Cod and Chips with a side. Lately WAS £9.49 and recently increased to £9.99!! A complete slap in the face for customers. Sometimes you get given a smaller fish than usual due to variation in fish sizes. Frankly, the £10 price is not worth the money anymore. In fact, I recommend a boycott of this place and look elsewhere as they are cheaper chippies like one in Firth Park. It is such a shame, but I'm afraid I will have to stop coming here regularly or at all before they will charge you £15!!! Or worse, £20 for the same portion as in 2016. The bosses have got to reduce the price or increase portions.

Very small portion over £10 for kebab,chips and drink. I pointed out to the assistance thr portions are very small for the price she just shrugged her shoulders

£9.49 for 2 days of vomiting and explosive diarrohea. Me and my mum decided to treat ourselves to fish and chips to share. As soon as we left the table we felt sick, dizzy and bloated. We felt like we were gonna faint and couldn’t breathe. Upon returning home, we both suffered 2 days of continuous vomiting and diarrohea. Following on from that, my mum felt so weak and dizzy she was unable to bathe my sister. Luckily, my younger sister did not eat this horrific abomination. Please keep away from here. Especially young children and frail mums. Don’t walk, sprint past this shop like your life depends on it (and your toilet habits).

Served by friendly staff member, ordered just chips. Served quickly with fresh hot chips. They are coated in batter that gives them a lovely taste and good crunch. Definitely recommend and will return for more! 🙃

Rob & Nut's customer service was amazing; they always served customers with a smile, and the food was delicious, especially the chips. The business owner was always present to guarantee that the food was prepared fresh and that customers were served on time. The price was also extremely affordable.

Was rushed to order by the blonde girl that works there! There wasn't any queue! She was very rude, not a ounce of customer service! Food wasn't the best either! Found hair in my mixed doner & tikka! The portion size for the price is ridiculous! Gravy was very lumpy too! Will NEVER eat here again! First & definitely the last time!

The food is really good. Traditional fish and chips, with a slight twist. The coating on the chips is really tasty. Out of all the food venders in Meadowhall, this is my top choice. Highly recommend the Chicken Tikka Kebab on a Naan bread. The staff seem to enjoy working there too. Always friendly.

Would never eat here again! The food wasn't nice at all. The jacket potatoes were over cooked and tiny, hardly any butter, the beans on mine weren't nice, the tuna may on my mums was like mush, the halloumi fries had hardly any halloumi in, it was all batter and the service was terrible. I had to wait ages for the order when it wasn't even busy and I could see all my food waiting for me. The staff talk to each other like your not stood there. One of them said 'what's he stood there for' and the other said 'I don't know, ask him' so I told them and they still Were another 5 minutes bringing my order that's I could see waiting. never again!

Got 2 mixed kebabs from here yesterday one on nann one on pitta was lovley other than nann bread was rock hard. The staff in this place are a joke took 25 mins to get my order due to the lass serving us complaining to another staff member that her shift ended in 3 minutes and she didn't have time how rude was slow timing until she took off duty was really cocky and arrogant little mouth peice. To be honest I felt like getting a refund won't be going back due to bad customer service skills.

Come here regularly because their chips are amazing!! I always have haddock and the hubster has cod plus battered sausage and we are always full. The server we had was really friendly and explained why the chips were so good, if you want to know you’ll have to visit !!! Perfect late lunch/early dinner as they are fried to order and piping hot, highly recommend

Ordered fish and chips. fish was filled with oil. the batter was raw from the inside. had to scoop the fish from the inside. The chips were well made but the oil was old as it smelled of old oil.

Still using single use plastic cutlery. Not really allowed anymore?

A visit to meadowhall wouldn't be complete without eating in the oasis dining court and our pick is always Tasty Plaice who by far does the best chips in the country in my opinion. It's great value, cooked fresh and has all the usual chip shop options including kebab meat. I went for a battered sausage, chips, gravy and peas with a helping of batter bits (scraps) and the portion size is enough to fill, add a fizzy drink and it's a complete meal for under a tenner (at time of writing). Staff are friendly and it's we'll run, the queue's are kept to a minimum and service is near instant. Cannot fault and will be back again for sure

Rubbish. Hair in my food and my relative was sick due to eating this horrible potato. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. DON’T WASTE MONEY. It was disgusting

Came to sheff after a long time and walked around the food place as I felt hungry and came across this place. Lovely customer service firstly and great food. The only reason I gave 4 stars is cause the overall price I paid but guess that's a Sheffield price.

I'm surprised at some of the negative reviews. Always come here with the family. Service always good and portions good too. The battered chips always tasty and crunchy.

Chose mixed meat and chips and salad. Watched the young lady preparing it filled Box with chips and a bit of salad and the smallest chicken Tikka and donner meat portion I have ever seen,complained but not much improvement so told her I'm not paying £8.49 for that is is ridiculous and walked away. Will not be eating here again previously it was value for money Wonder if it has changed hand's as didn't not recognize any staff . I'm sure I won't the first and last person to complain and walk away.

Honestly needs shutting down, we’re so ill from this place and it’s all we’ve eaten today and literally got poorly like an hour after. Looks like we’re not the only ones too per the other reviews, if you’re making people this sick, maybe consider reviewing your hygiene standards.

Bad food and there is too much oil in the fish and chips .

Best chippy around. We visit approx every 2 weeks and sometime travel just to get chips. Food is always hot and the portions are very very generous.

Although the food is very nice, they have really shrunk their portions down. Paying £9 for kebab and chips you would expect there to be plenty of meat. Instead I got a child's portion of meat.

Heartbroken 💔 ordered cod, chips and peas, was very excited. Then it arrived. The peas had smothered the fish to death. The batter was no longer crisp and the meal was all together ruined, I was devastated. Had my meal ruined by someone's careless dispense of the peas

AVOID. Had mixed kebab and chips. Dont know if meat was contaminated or something but I have had awful food poisoning from it. Been spewing like crazy for the past 24 hours and I never usually get ill have quite a strong stomach and that was all I ate yesterday. Would not recommend.

Since we found this place we never go anywhere else for our fish n chips when we are in Sheffield. The fish is lovely, and cooked to perfection, the batter is crispy and tasty, and the chips are the tops. It is very clean. Staff are always busy making sure of this. Great staff.

Cracking fish bites chips and curry / peas. £7.99 each. Lovely hot and tasty. Very busy today in the Oasis. Queue for food but service carried out with a smile.

Worst chips ever covered in grease fish was supposed to be cod how ever it wasn't fish was brown and tasteless paid £7 for the privilege should have gone McDonald's and saved some money wouldn't recommend

Just had a mixed kebab naan and was really impressed with how fresh the food was. Fast service and reasonably priced.

Best chip shop I've ever had, the chips are incredible, never had any like them before, but the halloumi was the real stand out, best I've ever had top with some tasty curry sauce. Honestly doesn't get better.

Delicious chippy, the portions are big & the chips so are amazing: cheesy, crispy, hot, & melts in the mouth. There are also a range of other tings in the menu. Wish there were other sizes of the f&c box as well. Overall the food is fab & Tasty Plaice has 1 of the best f&c, as they have their unique cheese-coated chips. Service's fast. Gonna be returning .Ty.

I don't found it healthy it is to much oils in the cheeps and Fishe wasn't great test is better to bay in MC DONALDS .

I love this place however my last order was over 3 hours late i called in it wasnt the stores fault they had no couriers staff member on the phone was apologetic and assured me will be notified once they havr a courier but must say the food was hot hopefully they can get a permanent courier then will deffo bump to 5 stars just a real shame

Mixer kebab is fantastic here and the chips have a light batter coating which makes them taste great. Always go here whenever at Meadowhall.

AWFUL!!! Thick batter... soft inside... I was told before buying that there was skin on th fish... hardly any fish inside the thick batter.... chips did not taste of anything.... curry sauce tasteless....I rarely leave food but left most of my meal. Will NOT buy from there again. No queue! should have told me the food wasn't nice.

I love the Cod&Chip but the Curry is soo watery

Regularly go there to get my lunch. The portion of chips is decreasing. For £1.89 they box was half empty. It has never been like this. Complete ripoff.

The fish is fairly standard same as you will get from any other chippy however it’s half the size. The chips have a lovely batter coating but again very very small portion. Literally a handful of chips. They used to give more chips and that’s my main complaint. If the food portion was normal size I’d give 4 out of 5 as the food can be a bit over oily. Shame as the portion sizes used to be ok about a year ago.

Part from the fish cake being really nice I ended up with food poisoning from it was disappointed as it’s my first time having one and I heard good things about this place

Nice fish, very filling along with chips and beans. Fast service, a little pricey but that's probably considering the fish. Could do with some sachets of sauce to take back to the table. Yes I'd have some again :)

The halloumi tasted sour and gave us really bad food poisoning! It didn't even squeak like halloumi should. The only two people who ate the halloumi were the ones who got sick later that night. The aftermath was not pleasant.
