What a lovely clean and well maintained indian restaurant. Beautiful interior and wonderful welcoming staff who care about your experience. The food was delicious. I had chicken jupuri which was aromatic and tasty and highly recommend. I will be back!

Excellent food and nice people but the slowest delivery imaginable. If their delivery was better I would be giving the 5 stars.

Delicious food freshly cooked, plenty of options choose from. Kids friendly and staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Very reasonably price.

This restaurant team also runs a restaurant outlet with name Masala (on Barrow eats). They are the worst team who doesn’t deliver the food on time. They tell u all lies about the delay in delivery when u call them after 15min and 30 min and after an hour they mention it is at billing section if you have patience to call them.

Unbelievable food. I've not had an Indian like this in forever. Nicely priced too. The staff were top draw and had a good laugh about the masala fries recipe which they would not give me! Absolute belter of a place though. Everything from decor to the price. If im in Barrow again, We'll be eating here. Me and the Wife loved it

One of the worst hotel poor hospitality rude staff

Meal for 3 people, staff were friendly and welcoming, service was good and the food was very nice. Relatively small menu but that is very often a sign of more care and attention to the dishes they do serve. Would go back again. Its worth a visit if you are looking for somewhere small and with good service.

I had the "6 hour slow cooked lamb shank". It was so tough that it was inedible. The 2 waiters were definitely not front of house trained. One was rude and the other young boy needs some guidance. Will not return, shame as it used to be really good.

Not bad, but not 5 star either. Nice family restaurant in a town with not many good options, so give it a go. Good service, good prices.

Top place. Top food. Happy to talk QPR all day with the occasional mention of Man U, especially after they cheated their way to a cup final. Well worth a visit or two!

Placed a delivery order. Food that did come was solid but delivery time was outrageous and some items were missing, which is a poor do for 2h+ to deliver. Judging by other reviews, I'd consider patronizing this establishment again if I was going to eat it but I certainly won't be ordering another takeaway from here.

Date of Visit 17th December2023 One of the delights in my self-imposed job of searching out the good, the bad, and the ugly in the Indian restaurant trade is coming across such places as the Taj Mahal in Barrow-in-Furness. Which is well worth a shout up! This small 40 or so seater, neat, clean modern and comfortable. The fret work that adorns the wall is well worth a visit. On this occasion I was looked after by Ajram, a pleasant knowledgeable chap who enjoyed guiding me through the menu. And what a menu it is. Of course, all the old favourites are there but quite a few different dishes as well such as Jaipuri, a slow cooked meat with coriander, ginger and finely chopped chillies. Patia Lamb, you don’t see that in every restaurant and quite a lot of dishes from all over the Indian sub-continent. I ordered Poppadom’s which arrived with the most stunning tandoori dip. These are the things that set them apart. It’s just a poppadom, but yes, it is with that extra mile that make it better . The next thing on the order was a Sheek Kebab, and to be honest I was a bit shocked when it arrived. It looked like something that a seagull outside might have deposited; I have never seen a Sheek kebab like it ! It was flat rather like a pancake, it was a pale yellow in colour! However, I needn’t have worried the first bite exploded every taste bud in my mouth, it was absolutely delicious, from the first bite to the last. Someone in that kitchen really knows what spicing all is about! But be warned this dish has a kick, and if you don’t like chilli perhaps not for you. My choice of main was Chicken Jalfrezi which I was guided to by another review on TA who raved about the Jalfrezi at the Taj Mahal, and they were not wrong, this dish surpassed any I have had in a long time, the flavours just burst into your mouth. Nothing overpowering nothing bland and uninteresting. But so full of what real INDIAN FOOD is all about.... FLAVOUR! A perfectly cooked Pilau Rice and a sweet fresh Peshwari naan completed my experience. The only thing that let this place down is its stance on the sale of alcohol, it is obvious that at one time in the not too distant past they sold Alcohol because they have a bar all setup to do so, but obviously some overzealous Iman has got other ideas which to me at any rate is a real shame !Having said that, I took along a bottle of Cobra and they had no problem supplying me with a glass and a bottle opener. OK, 9.5/ 10 for me. Parking no problem. And the cost....£23.60 Service is impeccable.

WOW!!! Absolutely delicious food and fabulous service. The restaurant is very nice, clean and cozy. We had papadoms, samosa chaat, mixed starters, lamb tikka Rogan, naan and Tandoori mix grill. Everything exceeded our expectations by far and every bite taken was as mouth watering as the first. If your in the area then definitely go try this place.

Having not eaten out for ages, after a string of disappointments, this was a stab in the dark, and turned out absolutely sensational in every way, and we've already re-booked to return next week. From the first impressions, it was clean, smart, and two of the most gentle, friendly hosts greeted us so warmly. The food arrived, and was visually pleasing, generous size portions, well presented, and fresh..Each single dish was a real treat, nothing was less than brilliant, and I can't remember being so pleased and treated for ages. Thankyou to all , we can't wait for next Saturday, you have rekindled our excitement for dining out.

Very disappointed with our delivery, two hours late so three hours from ordering in total , food was cold on arrival and had to be reheated , ordered a signature lamb dish and received chicken which was definitely not marinated just cooked and thrown into the sauce , hardly any meat in the meals at all , over £50 in total no better than a deal bag from Tesco , shame

Went to get a takeaway as working away from home, ended up sitting in instead, front of house staff were great lads, had a good chat with both of them, food was delicious, couldn’t see Naga on the menu so asked and was told no problem, was a lovely meal and could really taste the Naga pickle in the meal, highly recommend this place, will definitely visit again next time in the area

Three of us went for a meal here on Saturday night when staying in Barrow to visit the Lakes. We really enjoyed the food which was superb and one of the best Indian Meals we have ever had. Special shout out to the Young lad who took our order and looked after us. He Made the effort to ask us where we were going and from etc. Highly recommend the place and would not hesitate to return.

What can I say apart from wow My partner and I ordered a starter and a main course her indoors had onion bhaji which she said was the best she had ever had I had the mixed kebab which was fantastic she had a vegetable korma and I went for 1 of the specials which consisted of Nan bread on the bottom with cheesy chips and topped with lamb and chicken pieces was amazing you can bring your own alcoholic drinks in which is a fantastic money saver and a special mention to the young lad who took our orders and recommended our dishes he was lovely and made us feel very welcome would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who fancies a delicious meal

Service was slow and very lackluster. Food was nice but very little meat in the main meals. Worth noting that they don't serve alcohol.

This is the worst food I have had EVER I don't know how people eat this food and how taj mahal are still in business serving this food I had a tawa curry there was no chicken in there who do they think they are fooling by charging so much and not putting much chicken in there

Dined here last night, part of a group of 8 ladies, friendly smiling reception, table was laid immaculately, we ordered poppadoms & chutneys, various starters, mains and sides, all were served piping hot, and we're absolutely delicious . We all agreed the evening was perfect from start to finish, we will definitely be back in the near future.

Great food, fast and pleasant service. I ate here on a Monday evening so it was quiet, but still luckily one of the few restaurants in Barrow that are open on that day. Only minor drawback was no bar so you need to take your own alcoholic drinks with you if you want them. Definitely works recommend and will visit again

When entering this establishment I was amazed by the elegant decor. The furnishings fuse the grand opulence of the Taj Mahal (India) with refined modernism to create a truly breathtaking space. It is obvious that the designer of this restaurant has a great eye for beauty. The excellence and precision of the staff more than lives up to the majesty of the surroundings. Courteousness and wit is in abundance here and every request (including a wine glass for my Boddingtons) was met with the utmost grace. Due to the astounding professionalism on display, it was obvious that this is a business where nothing is left to chance. Upon the arrival of the food my senses were overwhelmed with excitement. Each dish set a standard of such phenomenal heights that, through the tender pink lamb of the Indian scotch egg, to the rich tomatoey delicacy of the seabass, it became clear that every inch of the menu is constructed by the finest artisans in their field. The generous and floral sweetness of the Afghani Naan gave me moments of intense pleasure and left me in a state of blissful ecstasy. Anyone with an interest in Indian food, or indeed food in general, should make it their goal to visit this fantastic place. For at Taj Mahal (Barrow) it is clear that there are no compromises and the commitent to quality is total. Without a doubt this is the finest food served in Barrow. Amen x

Excellent service and food at Taj Mahal last night. The two guys who served us were attentive and polite, offering recommendations and even a free starter. The food was very tasty and good portion size too. Would definitely recommend and if we are ever in the area again, we will be sure to return.

Horrible food , it's not even a Indian food. Tried the butter chicken, it was sweet as a halwa( desert dish of India ). Indian food is one of the best foods and here the food is pathetic. Simply giving Indian names for the stupid dishes. Pathetic food, 0 rating from me .

We called in here after watching a show at The Forum. It was late but we were made to feel very welcome. The food was amazing! We have eaten a lot of Indian food but all the food here was superbly cooked. Compliments to the chef! The staff were brilliant! Very attentive, friendly and efficient. Excellent food and customer service. Definitely recommend. I have ordered Lahore kufta as a starter, Lamb Shatkara as a main, Mushroom chilly panniers as a side and Afgani Nana as well as Afgani Rice.

Went last min with friend. Lovely decor and friendly lad that work there. Fast service. Not bad portions. Oven cooked chips needs to be changed though i wasnt too bothered as low fat

Extremely polite and respectful staff, who were extremely helpful and friendly. The restaurant was busy but they still managed to get the food to us in a reasonable time and the food was SO good. Had really good portions and really tasty. Best experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant, wish I was local as I’d come very regularly.

If you want spicy Asian food (Sri Lankan or Indian), in Barrow in Furness, this is the place. The dinner was lovely.

Indian food at its best! Walking around the neighbourhood, searching for bite. 9 PM, and discovering this place. Open but empty. Turns out the menu is very exciting and the food even better. High quality and great Indian atmosphere.

I can only review the drink that I have at the moment as i have come in for a take away and haven't had food yet but think £8 40 is pretty expensive for a double Bacardi and coke just had curry ok but mainly sauce and not much chicken

A friendly and enjoyable visit on a Saturday night. A good meal with hearty portions and very pleased to see they have Mango lassi on offer. The service was very good and engaging.

The staff are humble and active in taking initiative to ask whether the dish is good or not, the butter chicken was perfect as I wanted and after long time I had such meal Thank you.

Chicken tikka jalfrezi and bhaji were absolutely amazing. Just the right spices on the jalfrezi - a real good burn!!! We were seated quickly and our starters were out fast. Large portions. If we come back to town, one starter and one entree is plenty for two.

Visited the Taj Mahal following checking out the reviews whilst visiting the area. Food was amazing, so fresh and full of flavour and very reasonably priced. Special mention and thanks to Vaz who was the perfect host. Excellent customer service, would highly recommend 😊

Young lad and young lass on the till very friendly and couldn't do enough. Hole in the celling kept on catching my eyes, which was quite annoying and noo e dining in also 2 takeaways running the the same building calls taken for mithali and taj mahal also expensive for not so qood quality food

Excellent food every single time! We have dined in and the service was brilliant. Takeaway is also great, the quality is amazing and definitely the best around. We went for the first time 2 weeks ago and have already been 3 times! Highly recommend duck exotica, mixed tandoori, chicken Shashlik and garlic Nan!!

When you phone the mithali number, this restaurant answers and sends your order, they are extremely busy and can take 3 hours to arrive!!

Everything about this restaurant was excellent. Friendly welcoming staff, food was wonderful. I had the honey mint lamb, it was fabulous. The restaurant was spotlessly clean and this included the toilets, always a good sign that hygiene is important. Highly recommend.

Delivery was over an hour late and even then was not what was ordered after a few phone calls and a lot of messing about I got the correct order should of had my food about 8:20pm after all the messing about finally had my correct order about quarter to ten!!

We were in Cumbria on holiday and visiting family and it was suggested we try the Taj Mahal out. When we we arrived we were met promptly and in a very welcoming manner. The decor is very tasteful. We were seated quickly and asked if we wanted poppadoms which we did and were given the menu. I wasn't sure what to have and asked the server, who turned out to be one of the owners, Rofee and asked for a recommendation. He asked us what our taste was and we said mildly spiced with peppers, onions and tomatoes so he said he would sort something out. We started with an onion bhaji each and they are huge. About the size of a tennis ball. They were probably the best onion bhajis I have had. They were perfectly spiced and absolutely delicious. The two curries and a naan bread arrived shortly after and they didn't let us down. Again perfectly spiced and seasoned. They have an amazing selection of spirits and drinks and we had a fantastic meal made complete by the fantastic and friendly service. Having read some of the reviews on Google I would seriously question whether some of them have visited the Taj Mahal. Some of the reviewers don't seem to be based in the UK. I would treat some of the negative reviews as potentially malicious

Definitely 5 star. Really pleased with our experience. Rofi looked after us with three different dishes ( we all ordered bhuna but he said we could do better than that!) Special naan and porkchops were perfect. Thanks again. We will visit again 👍🏻

I had chicken masala, roti and biryani and the taste was amazing. Service is fast and the staff is good. A must try. It's open till 11 PM unlike all other places around here that close by 5 PM.
