Found this gem after a long drive from suffolk to watch a gig! Poor sods had barely unlocked the door before me and the missus walked in fancying a curry and a beer....the staff where great but made it clear they had literally just opened and needed some time, if that was OK, to get things up and running.... fine by us 2 cobras to wait and then food was ordered again we was told everything is now firing up so bare with! Great sign of food being cooked nice and fresh... for us personally we had 2 amazing curries and the sides where excellent... again personally the breads we had where stunning propa tasty grub. We love a good curry so the next time we are in Birmingham we will hunt down this place no questions asked... Big thankyou to the 2 fellas that served us.. We had an amazing dinner. The host Abby was friendly and gave wonderful recommendations. This place is one of the oldest curry houses in the midlands and is a must visit restaurant for anyone visiting Birmingham. Very convenient location near Birmingham New Street Station.

What a lovely restaurant. Great food, fab waiter and brilliant experience. You can pay £25 for a dish of Chicken Tikka Massala in central Birmingham now. This was less than half the price and represented much more of what a great Indian dining experience should be.

We cannot thank Galib and Raheem enough for their service this evening. We ate here after reading all the positive reviews online and were not disappointed! Galib and Raheem were polite, chatty and paid a real interest in us and our family. Their service was fantastic and we could not fault the food at all. We are not local but when we visit Birmingham again we will definitely return to the Taj Mahal. Thank you!

Highly recommend this great little restaraunt. Served by Galib, Rahim, and Rifat, who where all excellent in advising on the menu, giving a smiling proffesional service. Food lived up to expectations, starters were all very good. Naga curry, Baltis and Jalfrezi were all top notch. Will be back next time we're in Brum.

First class food and service only a three minute walk from New Street Station. Why eat at the station when you could come here? Delicious lamb kebab starter and equally fabulous Desi butter chicken with all the trimmings. A very warm welcome from Raheem and Galib. Totally recommended!

Always a great place to go for a pre-theatre meal. Friendly and attentive staff, quick service, never seems too busy, and there’s plenty of menu choice. I also like how the madras here is hot, but not so much that it’s got no taste like some other places do it.

Fantastic service from walking through the door to leaving. A very friendly set of staff. Food was exceptionaly well presented and tasted very well. Reasonably priced. We came for our 42nd wedding aniversary and was not disapointed.

Fantastic little place just round the corner from the railway station and the theater. Modern music in the background and a very fresh, but still Indian setting. Great selection of starters, curries and sides with nice veggie options for me. Decent drinks menu (although pricey) and a nice little coffee after. Raheem went out of his way to get to know us, not at all intrusive, interested in our trip and recommending food to us. We'll definitely come back because of the staff (and the food!). Nice 2 for 1 Taste Card deal on some food Monday to Thursday saved us a bit of money, but still worth the original price...

Another excellent discovery, just 5 mins walk from Birmingham New Street station. We arrived around 18.00 and within 30 mins the place was absolutely packed with people. The food was delicious, lots of veggie options and professional, easy service. No pressure, just great! Definitely recommended!

Excellent service and wonderful food Was busy , staff acknowledged that but we weren’t too fusssed to wait as had nice starter poppadoms and kingfisher We where in no rush But was good to see them acknowledge it was many places don’t and arnt apologetic Again too food , top staff Recommend

I recently dined at this restaurant and had an amazing experience. The food was fantastic, and waiter, Rahim, made the evening even better. He was attentive, friendly, and really knew the menu well. Highly recommend!

Sheek kebab, Keema Naan was hard and meat was smelling bad Naan and Naga Chicken curry was average which was eatable. Chicken Pakora was more of a batter than chicken. Overall I do not recommend this place for Indians.

Best chicken Tikka Masala I have ever had. Everything was absolutely bang on. The waiter (Raheem) asked all our party what they liked and tailored our meals to suit. Can not fault any bit of oue experience at this place. Thanks for a great feed lads.

The most important thing is that this is not an Indian restaurant. The naan tasted like heated ones from the supermarket, Dhal Makhni was bright red and sweet, we took one bite and had to return the food back. They don't even know about the items on the menu and how they are supposed to taste and gaslit us by saying that this is England and this is how we make it here. The verdict is that this is not an Indian restaurant.

Me and my friend had a delicious dinner with authentic taste of Indian food....that was the best ever taste we experienced in England...and the staff was amazing and friendly..we enjoyed the football match as well....I really recommend the place to enjoy the food....with ur loved ones🤩❤️

The restaurant sits in a quiet corner of a busy part of the city. When I visited, it was not very busy; but don't let that quietness fool you. The pathia I had was very flavourful and the chutneys with the papadums were great, as was the egg fried rice. My girlfriend really enjoyed the dupiaza too. Staff were lovely and polite at all times. The price was also lower than expected.

worst experience and worst food I ever had, I waited for almost one and half hour, the waiter was not even responding when we called responded but came to us after 20 minutes, worst experience one can ever get from a restaurant. I won't recommend it to anyone

Ever worst experience with Indian Cuisine restaurant. The food quality is awful 😣, no taste , no quality and very low In quantity as well. Just wasted our money and time. Order time was too long even when the restaurant has no customers. If there is zero star option available I have to choose that. Awful really. We ordered paneer tikka and they charge extra for sauce 🙄

Have been to many great Indian restaurants and this one is no exception ! Staff were really polite, especially Refal who served us. The food was really good, especially for vegetarians with paneer being offered for all traditional curries. Good portion sizes, lots of flavor and perfect amount of spice. Would definitely recommend

Having visited Taj Mahal on many occasions, I must say it offers a pleasant dining experience. The naan breads served here are a delightful highlight, perfectly baked to complement any dish. However, my recent experiences with the food have left me somewhat disappointed. While the restaurant once held a reputation for excellence and was among the finest Indian dining establishments in the area, it seems to have faltered in maintaining its quality and flavor. Many dishes are excessively oily, detracting from their overall appeal. Despite the culinary setbacks, the service at Taj Mahal remains impeccable. The staff consistently deliver a top notch experience, ensuring diners feel welcomed and attended to throughout their meal. It's evident that the management prioritizes customer satisfaction, yet the decline in food quality is a concerning trend. As a regular customer, I've granted Taj Mahal ample opportunities to rectify its shortcomings, but unfortunately, it appears that my visits will be put on hold for the foreseeable future.

I had an excellent vegetarian meal here. It was all cooked to perfection, and service provided by Rabbi was excellent. I wish my local curry house in Devon was as gods as this. One of the top 5 curry I have tasted. I have travelled extensively in India, and I still put this place top 5. Go.

I stayed in Birmingham for Mach 2024 exhibition at the NEC, my hotel was close to this restaurant so I decided to give it a try. Probably the best chicken dopiaza I’ve had. Friendly staff, great food. What more can you ask. 👍

Very rarely do I give a full 5 star review to ANY restaurant but I've got to say on my visit back into Birmingham I had to visit the Taj Mahal on several recommendations..I wasn't disappointed..the staff (Shahidul and Jamil) were both on point on service and cleanliness...both very polite and couldn't do enough to help...a rarity in today's climate..The food served was so close to authentic Indian cuisine you really wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you were sat in Birmingham or Bangladesh..5 stars and top marks to head chef Jalil and under Chef Shiplu..I couldn't recommend this restaurant any higher if I tried..100% hands down the best Indian Birmingham has to offer BAR NONE

Really impressed with how flexible this place was. We were a party of 12, and quite a rowdy one at that. It was a friend's stag party, and we were due through the Bookyup app at 8:30. Due to other planned events overrunning we had to reschedule, twice, and they were great about it. The food was really good and the bill was incredibly reasonable for the amount of food and drink we had. At the end of the night, we paid and stayed for a good 15 minutes finishing drinks with no issues at all. Baffled by the other reviews citing poor service, as they staff couldn't have been more helpful, even happily taking pictures of the group for us.

My husband and I went for dinner at Restaurant Taj Mahal and really enjoyed the ambiance. The food was fresh and delicious, and the best part was that the chef sent us a dessert made that day. The dessert was called Golap Jamun which we were really happy after eating. Moreover, their service was also very good and commendable.

AVOID AVOID AVOID. Oh dear oh dear. You silly sausages. How to turn a good review into a one star review. Picture the scene. A quiet Easter day evening when there are hardly any customers and therefore every person who walks through the door should be cherished and treated like Kings. Especially when they are a lovely decent hard working family like us. However what did they decide to do. Add a load of extra drinks on to the bill and treat us like idiots. Therefore the quality of the food is irrelevant and won't even get a mention in this review. They ended up having to take service charge of the bill and get a one star review so really was it worth the risk. I guess this tactic probably pays off in the long run financially when you are next to a theatre and can rip off passing tourists but you will occasionally come a cropper. So for this reason alone AVOID AVOID AVOID.Im pretty sure when we were researching we saw a similar review about extra drinks being added on so we probably should have heeded that but hey ho. You live and learn.

My wife and i went to the Ta Mahal last night it was first class 'the restaurant was clean and very busy. The service by the staff was very good and polite the meals were brilliant full of different spices excellent value for money a great dining experience we will be back

Been about 10 years since we’ve last eaten here which back then was a wonderful experience but it’s definitely gone down hill, service was spot on but as for the curry’s coming from someone who’s been enjoying curry’s for over 40 years..don’t get rushing to book here. New owners maybe…??

We came here for dinner last night. When I had a question about a particular dish, I noticed that the server was not customer friendly and he found it annoying to answer questions. He got irritated very quickly because I didn't understand what he meant. And he also looked very strange when my girlfriend drank beer. At the end he literally looked away from us. We will never come back here again.

Took family here, early evening after Saturday afternoon theatre trip. Excellent, friendly staff (including Shahldul who helped our children choose a non-fizzy soft drink). The food portions were just the right size and we'll definitely return there in the future.

Fancied a curry after photographing around Birmingham and this caught my eye. I am so glad it did. The food was excellent and plentiful (I ordered too much in other words) very reasonably priced and the service was excellent. My waiter, Shauidul was friendly and took time to chat. I often take visitors here when in Birmingham and have never had a bad experience, Shahidul served us with a smile and nothing was too much trouble for him (the same can be said for all staff), would thoroughly recommend (Nepalese Dhansak and Desi Tikka Masala are amazing)

Came tonight on a Saturday, wasn't too busy, but enough people for a vibe but also a relaxed atmosphere. The two gentlemen who served us, Shahidul and Rabbi were very attentive and friendly. They were able to advise on spice levels and recommend a dessert we have never tried, gulab jamun. It was really tasty. Only recommendations would be we would love to hear traditional Indian music and also a candle on tables would be a nice touch. Thank you very much, we'll come again when we visit Birmingham!

Fantastic curry in the heart of Brum! Service provided by Shahidul and the team is always first class and make you feel very welcome when you come in. Great menu to serve all tastes/levels of spice- Garlic Chilli curry highly recommended. For a good old-school curry house, it doesn't get much better.

Unless they’re under new management I’m surprised by some of the negative reviews. I found the staff incredibly friendly and the service quick, which was good as we were off to the theatre straight after. Lots of fish dishes which you don’t often see and good prices considering we also had drinks (they also add a service charge). Would come again!

We just love this restaurant. We are from Spain and come every year to Birmingham, of course, we never miss the chance to eat at Taj Mahal. Food is delicious and the attention is superb. Shahidul remembers us from previous years and always treats us in the best way, he knows well his job and helps us with the perfect suggestions. We will definitely come back next year.

Yet again very poor service from 3 of the staff they was angry that we wanted to eat at the restaurant plus they guy who lead us to our table was rude cos he knew we wanted separate bills and not split bills even the other 2 guys kept giving us angry looks cos we was straight to the point on our our orders even one of them came over towards our table and purposely bashed against our table and said sorry sorry and laughing I won’t be eating again at this place nor will my mate as their was hair in our meals the 4th guy who delivered our meals was the only decent person there he was happy to see us again but the other 3 are a disappointment so avoid at all cost very rude and unprofessional and ungrateful that we even decided to come to this Indian restaurant

Really friendly and professional staff the food was very nice and not too pricey I would definitely go again We had a Coke Zero a small wine 2 popadoms and a sauce plate 2 curry’s (a korma and a medium curry) 1 chips 1 rice 1 sag aloo (if that’s how you spell it) And the total was £49.00 So not bad luckily we went in a Sunday and it was late evening so it was very nice and quiet might be busy on Fridays and Saturdays

Worst service and treatment of customers

We have been visiting the Taj for over 15 years and have always enjoyed the best in service, hospitality and food. All dishes are cooked to order and uniquely different. Living locally we have a wide choice of Indian restaurants but the Taj is always our chosen venue.

A very busy night in Birmingham glad to have found the Taj Mahal Excellent food and service from Shahidul and team.

Do not dare to try the mint chocolate at the end 🤢🤮 This is the reply to the owner’s comment on my review It’s not only dhall tarka Jalfrezi pneer and pneer tikka was also the same🤌🏼🤌🏼 About the mint chocolate 🤢🤮 If I/We wouldn’t had tried it then how would we know the taste. If you guys would have told us already we would not even look at that “complimentary dessert”. Before us there was a family group of 15 people. While we were entering your “TAJ MAHAL” they warned us about the food and everything thing but we had a bad day that we did not took their advice😪

My partner and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the restaurant last night. Food was delicious, especially the chicken tikka. We were served by Shahidul with excellent service.

Went to birmingham for a weekend and was recommended this restaurant. It didn't disapoint. Our waiter Shahidul was excellent, I asked what dishes he would recommend and we ordered those, excellent choice, the food was so tasty and good portion sizes. Would highly recommend a visit here.
