Mughal-e-Azam Restaurant in Birmingham

We had Iftar at Mughal Restaurant’s buffet. The restaurant has a calm and tranquil atmosphere, creating a welcoming and familiar vibe. The traditional décor is beautifully done, adding to the overall experience. However, the buffet selection was a bit disappointing. We were expecting classic Pakistani dishes like haleem, nihari, and saag, but instead, most of the options were just different types of curry with various meats. On the bright side, the dessert section was diverse and enjoyable. Now, let’s talk about the bill. It was quite expensive—£70 in total. I was charged the full price for my 4.5-year-old daughter, and two small bottles of Sprite cost £6, which felt excessive. On a positive note, the service was excellent—quick, professional, and attentive. A special shoutout to the receptionist, who was exceptionally kind, polite, and professional. Overall, while the service and ambiance were great, the buffet selection and pricing left much to be desired .

It had a very very long line of food for the buffet but our server aliza had served us very well and gave us a good time and made sure everything was up to standard

Well this is quite a place if you crave some good Mughlai food. I hadn't expected this place to be this grand. But yeah, this is really good for special occasions. About the food, they have a large menu and most of it is non veg. We tried Nihari, mix starters, Biryani, naan, and a few veg starters like Chaat, and I must say the food presentation and the whole vibe of the place is quite exquisite. The food was amazing; Nihari was brilliant, chicken curry as well, the mix platter starters were tasty and the portion was sizeable as well. The veg starters weren't really up to the mark, though. The staff is really nice, the place has plenty of tables so it can accomodate a large group of 10-14 people easily. There is a parking space as well. Overall, a great experience and a lovely place for Mughlai food.

Food was great as usually especially with Ramadan buffet offer. Arslan, who served us was just amazing guy. I wish could rate more than 5. Definitely recommend

Worst experience ever, queues for half an hour for Iftar, should have more space and option to accommodate people who came from far to try this place out, never again ever

I went for Iftar yesterday, and honestly, it was a disappointing experience. First of all, the buffet was highly overpriced compared to other nearby options, yet the food had very little variety. There were no lamb chops, nihari, paya, , haleem or any other famous food dishes . Instead, they only had two chicken curries, one lamb curry, and one spinach lamb dish (I think). I really don’t understand the justification for charging £24 per person. Moving on to the starters, there were only three chutneys, two types of salad, and one chana chaat—all of which lacked taste (I don’t want to call the food bad, but there’s really no other way to put it). The same was true for the desserts—very limited but taste good but no variety. While the ambiance and service were good, what’s the point of a nice atmosphere if the food has no variety and no taste? To make matters worse, drinks weren’t even included in the £24 price—you had to pay extra for them. There were hardly any options for kids either, except for old, stale fries and nuggets. My kids took some fries, and my little one hilariously said, "Look, Mummy, these fries have no potatoes!" Overall, I feel like my money was completely wasted.

I’m truly disappointed with the buffet experience. The kebabs were incredibly dry and hard to swallow, leaving a lot to be desired. The boneless chicken was no better—equally dry and lacking flavor. It’s clear that the quality and taste of the food have really declined. What used to be a reliable spot for a satisfying meal has sadly fallen short, and I won’t be returning anytime soon.

Absolute awful customer service, I made a reservation few days prior for 3 people to open our fast and when booking everything was confirmed and nothing was mentioned about overbooked, so we drove from slough to Mughal e Azam Birmingham a 2 hours journey to open our fast but when we got there and lady on the desk was very rude firstly and then just said ‘we are fully booked and you received a email saying we are fully booked’ firstly I received no email, message or a phone call to say they are fully booked, why did they let me book when they are fully booked, she didn’t give us a chance to speak she goes we are fully book sorry you have to leave, it was only 10 mins left for iftar didn’t offer anything at least to open our fast or anything, shocking and very rude behaviour, will never go back to a place who have to much ego and no respect for their customers.

Very clean, staff are okay 👍 and food is mid. YOU MUST TRY THEIR CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN ASAP. No butter chicken???? Everything was ok and mid APART FROM THE CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN !!!!!

Very bad quality food with no taste. I went for Iftar today and paid £116 for four people, yet the food was awful. Nothing was tasty. The Chicken Manchurian had a terrible smell and taste. Considering that every table of four is paying such a high price, the restaurant should at least maintain a standard level of food quality. I noticed that many people were leaving full plates of food, leading to a lot of waste. Please don’t rely on the good reviews, as they may be misleading. Save your money until they improve their quality standards. Additionally, every chicken dish contained only breast pieces, with no full chicken portions, which seems like another cost-cutting tactic.

I recently visited Mughl E Azam expecting great food for the high price, but I was really let down. The variety was limited, For what you pay, you’d expect much better quality and more options. Honestly, there are more affordable places that offer a better dining experience. Save your money and skip this one.

I gave 3 out of 5 stars for food because of lack of vegetarian choices. I'm vegetarian but my family enjoyed their Iftari buffet very much. Our table server Omar Khan, the tall one with curly hair took extra care of us with a welcoming smile. Nothing was too much for him. The other staff too were friendly. I recommend coming here for Iftari or just a meal out. Thank you.

Attend the iftar buffet , the resteraunt is beautiful and service was passable. However, the main let down was the food , dry bland kebabs and chicken, Lack of mains variety in , mediocre biryani and watery ras malai. Overall abysmal experience. Hope they improve their food

Tehrim was an excellent host for a large party of 20 people. She was very attentive and hospitable 10/10 service. Good food with lots of variety for adults and kids.

Visited Mughaleazam in Birmingham for their Iftar buffet, and unfortunately, it was a letdown. While the ambience is nice, that’s about the only positive thing I can say. The food was below average—lacking in flavor and not fresh. The biggest issue, however, was the queue. With only one serving counter for such a large crowd, we had to wait nearly 30 minutes each time just to get food. By the time we sat down, half of Iftar was spent standing in line instead of enjoying a meal. Definitely not worth the price or the wait. Would not recommend!

We had an amazing time at mughleazam. Everything was freshly cooked with fine ingredients and the atmosphere was fantastic. Specially a young lady TAHREEM was very nice and cooperative with us. She gave us discount for our special need son who wasn't eating at all. Definitely will come again. Thank you

Booked their banqueting hall for my wedding, the service and attitude provided by manager raza was disgusting Communication was very poor - would never receive a response from raza via messages in regard to the prep of the hall On the wedding day we were meant to have an event manager - which was raza however he was missing the entire day, no one was able to locate him. Had issues connecting to the Bluetooth, music stopped playing mid bridal entrance and rukhsati There was no chairs for the bride and groom table for eating - had to find the manager to locate us some chairs There was no cake knife ready by the cake despite this being discussed and confirmed before hand - again we were waiting around to find the manager so he can provide us with one We had been promised reserved parking for hire cars and for a disability access however on the day this was not done. All parking was taken at the front, all hire cars and for disability access were sent to the back of the car park The entire wedding day was just unorganised despite a schedule of the day being provided to events manager Oh and not to mention the only time throughout the day raza was willingly seen was to count heads to ensure there was correct amount of heads. And the only time from booking till the wedding day raza messaged me was for payment. All other messages I had sent him regarding wedding planning were ignored. Would not recommend to have your wedding here. Over priced, disgusting service from manager raza and very poor communication from the hall

Please avoid ordering Angus Steak absolutely rip off. The cut was not for steak dish I think it was brisket and passed off as steak. On the positive side mixed grill was good and moijtos are lovely.

We went to this restaurant last night,it all seemed lovely when we first arrived but sadly went down hill as soon as we sat down . We asked for a paratha as part of our meal and we were told its part of the breakfast meau so we can't have it ,fair enough. We ordered a mixed platter and asked for the meat and chicken to be bought out in separate dishes as my daughter has a ALLERGY to meat ,they said no that isn't possible as they decorate the platter nicely ,I said it's fine you don't need to decorate it I just want it on separate dishes,I was told no. so I ordered her a chicken karai instead .when then food came out the " decorated platter " looked like the meat was thrown on with some onions/peppers on the bottom .The staff were very confused every time we asked for something for example I asked for a extra glass as I drank from my daughters glass and I had eaten meat ,the waiter looked at me, looks at the glasses on the table and questioned me ,you want another glass? ,yes I do . Lastly my daughter ended up having a ALLERGIC REACTION DUE to cross contamination in the kitchen and before anyone says don't eat out or something ridiculous ,we eat out all the time and once we tell the restaurant there is someone with an allergy, great care is taken as a allergy can be LIFE THREATENING .So if anyone has any ALLERGIES PLEASE KEEP AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT ,AS NEXT TIME IT COULD BE FATAL. IF I COULD GIVE LESS THEN 0 I WOULD BECAUSE I DONT THINK I WAS BEING UNREASONABLE OR DIFFICULT IT WAS A SIMPLE INSTRUCTION.

We had a very pleasant experience here. It took some time to get the food, but it was worth the wait. We had nihari and palak paneer as mains. Both were good. Equally good was the service offered by Arsalan. He was really great at delivering an exceptional service and checking time to time while we enjoyed a great time at the beautiful Mughal-e-Azam. Highly recommend this place.
