Taipan in Milton Keynes

Went here tonight for a much needed girls night..... obviously the company was fabulous....but our waiter Ian made the night ...so friendly so attentive so funny and could not do more to accommodate us and make our night that extra bit special. Food was delicious, lots to chose from, portions generous, and overall the service was absolutely the best! Will definitely be visiting again....really enjoyed our dinner....in my 10 years in this country this is the first time I've had a waiter that made me feel like I was back in america....really truly loved his banter and jokes....

We came to Taipan on Valentine's Day after a show at the theatre. The food was tasty, although we did send back one of the chicken mains because it was completely raw. This was dealt with promptly and sincere apologies were offered. Unfortunately though, I have been made really unwell by eating at this restaurant. As soon as we got into the car on the way home I began feeling sick and now 2 days later I'm still unable to eat anything but dry crackers. I had a prawn dish that I can't even bear to think about anymore. Obviously I'm really unhappy about this and want to warn others so they can avoid the very unpleasant experience that I've had. Food hygiene needs to be taken more seriously.

We had wonderful experience in Taipan. The staff were incredibly friendly and patient. The food itself was outstanding – fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. Everything we ordered was delicious. Furthermore, the restaurant was impeccably clean and well-maintained. Highly recommend!

Can't go wrong to dine at Taipan if you want to taste genuine Hong Kong food. Been there 20 times + , food are authentic and can't fault it. Service is always friendly and excellent. Best Chinese restaurant in MK!

Went just yesterday was busy for a weekend but on top of it also being Lunar New Year Weekend… Staff were very attentive and didn’t have to wait too long for a table just took a bit of time to take our orders even so would for sure come back! Lovely customer service and amazing food!!

I visited this restaurant on a busy weekend; it was a vibrant scene! Although we had a brief wait, we were seated quickly, and the staff genuinely impressed me with their efficiency and friendliness. For the best experience, I recommend bringing a friend who knows Dim Sums, especially if you're new. The food was absolutely delectable and definitely worth every bite. I can't wait to go back and enjoy more of their amazing dishes!

One of the best chinese meals I've had. The staff were amazing, the food was delicious and the restaurant filled fairly quickly after opening. A sure sign of how good it is.

While it's good that they have a gluten free menu, the food I ordered from it turned out to not be gluten free so defeats the point.

We ordered wonton soup which was good but the other dishes had no taste. We ordered Duck 1/2 , pork belly, spare ribs, chicken sweet n sour, beef steak, egg fried rice ( less than 1/2 egg in two portion of egg fried rice), chilly chips. (Cold plain chips), dim sum plater was okay. Overall most of the food taste were gone off. Very disappointed.

The restaurant is not fancy or aesthetic but that does not matter when the food is so great. The service was good, the waiter and staff were friendly and after placing our order the food started turning up in 5minutes. It was so quick, very fresh and hot. The flavours were amazing and portions were generous. The waiter overheard it was for a birthday and brought out a free birthday dessert and sung happy birthday which was so lovely! A few of our favourite dishes were the king prawns with garlic and hot chilli (battered) not too spicy but lots of flavour. Beef with black pepper and honey sauce was so good, crispy roast pork belly, shredded crispy sweet chilli beef and Singapore noodles with prawns.

We visit this restaurant every week and they do not disappoint. Their dim sum is all handmade and extremely flavourful. They also have dinner service which they cook a great variety of oriental dishes from all around China

Went with my two young sons aged 7 and 8 and didn't have a table booked. They found a nice space for us despite being very busy and made us feel right at home, waiters and staff making a nice fuss of the boys as we're being seated which made them feel special. Our waiter, Ian, noticed I was perusing the Dim Sum menu and when he came over he asked which ones I wanted. On telling him I'd never had Dim Sum ever before he told me I was in the right place, and boy was I! I asked that he recommend some popular dishes and maybe one or two rather more exotic ones and he assisted. Every dish was awesome. He even laughed at my "dad jokes" (I.e. he asked if I've ever tried Ho Fun and I said only before I got married). Excellent experience overall. The prawn and scallop Dim Sum were my personal fav but they brought out a cake which was really awesome. Bites of sweet, light, fluffy gooey goodness. Would highly recommend this establishment. If you're a Dim Sum novice like me, they'll help you though. Thank you Taipan team, particularly Ian 👊🏽

Ordered our food, and it arrived in literally 2 minutes! The worst singapore noodles I have ever been served. Tastless and bland. Satay chicken tastless and bland ! Service was very good .

Superb food and perfect for a pre-theatre dinner.

Beef ho fun was very oily and greasy. Ribs in the roast platter weren't that great. Quite small portion size for the platter as well. All the other dim sum was fine. Didn't book but managed to grab a table during the weekend lunchtime. Quite warm inside, maybe due to it being very busy.

The best Chinese dim sum restaurant I've tried in the UK. Friendly staff, always warm and polite. Food qualify is superb with a fantastic choice of food, truly authentic Cantonese cuisine in all respects. Although its a long drive to get to Tai Pan, its definitely worth coming here, my go-to Chinese resto :)

We visited Taipan on impulse on a Friday evening. We’d never been before and we were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we received, the excellent, attentive service, and the high quality of the food. We loved it so much we returned the following evening! Thoroughly recommended!!

We wanted to get there at 12 when it opened but were a bit early so we walked around the block. When we came back at 12.09 it was half full! Be warned. You can have a few " traditional ( British traditional)" dishes if you want but most of us there were eating Dim Sum. Lots of smaller dishes a bit like Spanish tapas. There were 6 of us in total and we ordered 20 dishes- some of them duplicates and that was plenty. Most dishes came in 3's or 4's. 3 pork baos, 4 prawn and pork siu mai etc..... We actually took a little home in a plastic container we'd brought so as not to waste any. Quality of the food is good. Service is brisk and good. Very polite. But fast. At one point during our meal the queue for seats went out of the door. I'm not going to comment too much on authenticity as Dim Sum comes from the SW of China and Hong Kong which I haven't been to yet but the variety is good. There are similarities to food I've had elsewhere in China though and many dishes that you won't see down your local takeaway. And this is one of the best Dim Sum places I've been to. There is a discretionary service charge of 10% but all in all I felt the meal was good value for money. And clean toilets on top too! Wow. Good restaurant.

This place is so busy! Lots of chinese so super authentic atmosphere! Expect to wait for a table with queues going out the door! I felt the food was a little underseasoned compared with Royal China but the service is excellent, 10x better than you get say in London Chinatown where the staff are so rude. The waitress was very hardworking literally jogging around the tables to serve all the diners! She needs a raise.

Working away I was craving decent food this place didn’t disappoint. I have allergies and they were so understanding and reassuring food was authentic delicious and a fair price. Server was outstanding tending to all my needs I felt so at home here and can’t wait to return gluten free people can feel completely safe eating here

I had a quick lunch here on a busy sat afternoon. The tofu seafood hot pot was nicely cooked with assorted seafood such as squid prawn scallop with Japanese tofu. Service was quick and efficient.

Exquisite Chinese food served by an attentive staff. Every course of dinner tasted as authentic as you can get - from spring rolls, Peking Duck, sweet and sour, the beef, and the most fantastic noodle dish. Walked past many times on the way to the theatre - but will be hard to resist in the future.

We went on a Monday lunchtime for birthday celebrations and wow is all I can say! Great service, amazing food and lovely ambiance. They acknowledged my birthday with a treat which was really generous. Will definitely pop in again when am down in MK. Thank you again for making my birthday special.

All of the dim sums are over price. We ordered seven dim sum and the bill was £50 ish. The scallop with prawn siu mai was fresh. Except for this one, all other dim sum was just alright or blend. The yam paste croquette was awful with a weird flavour. The crispy Cheung feng was stale and oily.

Regularly visit Taipan for over 20 years now - fantastic service and authentic high quality food. By far and away the best Chinese restaurant in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas.

Good food, up to the standards of Hong Kong Cantonese cuisine. Very good service, staff is hardworking and friendly, always remember our family favourite tea and food and service spontaneously. I highly recommend.

Best dim sum/Chinese restaurant I have been to in Milton Keynes! The siu mai and har gao was especially delicious and it looked like it was handmade since it looked bigger then other restaurants and tasted fresh! Highly recommend if you are in the area!

When I was younger I would come here every week . They have the best veg Chinese food ever. Great food, amazing service!!

We arrived at this restaurant on a Monday and found the place to be quite busy which was a good sign. After a brief delay for the table despite booking we were shown to our table with an apology. The decor is average but well lit. Our host Simon and Brian were very welcoming and took our drinks and food orders. They were also very good at recommendations on selecting courses. We had a variety of starters and main courses which were very flavorsome and freshly cooked. The food was piping hot and not at all oily. The vegetarian selection here is very good and they will accommodate your dietary needs if required. The service here is swift and efficient but you will not be rushed in finishing your meal quickly to turn a table. All the hosts here are very polite and friendly. We enjoyed the food here and will come back when next time in the area . There is a well stocked bar on site with a wide selection of beverages. A nice experience on the food which we all enjoyed and a mention that the menu price reflects the quantity served which is generous. Prices are very reasonable for the area and is good value for the money. Keep up the excellent work and service. Thank you.

A busy restaurant in the heart of Milton Keynes theatre district serving some fantastic and authentic Chinese food. We had a mixed array of starters and main courses. All the courses were freshly cooked and full of flavour. A notable point here is the wide variety of vegetarian items on the menu. The food served was piping hot. The service here is quick but you will not be hurried into finishing your meal to turn a table. Our hosts Simon and Brian were very helpful in selecting items from the menu. There is a well stocked bar here with a wide selection of drinks. Food is not oily and the vegetable dishes had the right crunch to them. The aubergine was excellent and the seafood tasty. If you would like an authentic Chinese meal, this is the place to go. We will visit next time in the area. Thankyou for an excellent meal and the service to match.

I had to look at the previous reviews to make sure i wasn’t at the wrong location. Service is bad, the food is mid! Consider getting more staff to manage the workload.

Went to Taipan and collected a celebratory takeaway meal that went down a treat. From ordering over the telephone in advance to collection, I was most impressed with the speedy service and piping hot food. Taipan is definitely a good place to visit and dine in or take away a wonderful choice of food.

Excellent food. Much improved over the last time we attended. We'll definitely be returning frequently. The szechuan lamb was very good especially.

Like most dim sum, it does not come cheap especially when there are only two of us. However we feel the cost was worth it given fresh ingredients were used and the food was delicate and tasty. Fine food indeed. Service was quick and efficient. You can often judge the quality of dim sum by looking at the clientele. 90% were Cantonese speakers.

We were a big party and took a while to get to us but once we were going it was spot on. Not many staff but they work like lightening. As for the food, well I must say it was the best Chinese I’ve ever eaten and I’ve been to quite a few. Authentic and excellent ingredients. When you ask for a prawn dish it’s a proper prawn, no tiny shrimp. Fabulous

Had lunch today (11th March) my wife's 70th birthday treat. The food was lovely and the manager was brilliant.

During lunch time, the friendly clerk arranged to wait for about 30 minutes to pick up the tickets. Later, I saw that all the late diners had been seated. A lady also asked why she had a seat when she came later than me but not me? There is room for improvement in food quality. The shrimp dumplings and egg tarts are delicious. The golden tripe tastes bad and is just ordinary beef tripe, not golden tripe. The cured radish cake does not include bacon and is just a radish cake. I may not eat it again because I didn’t eat anything in the morning and had diarrhea twice after lunch.

Celebrated my birthday here today with 11 family members. Waitresses and waitors were very attentive, food was one of the best I've had, came out quickly considering we were a big table. Staff were very polite and made a special effort to interact with the children too which was nice. Thank you for a great meal!

The taste and atmosphere are good, I personally recommend the chicken feet and bean curd rolls 😉 The siomai was a bit over-steamed that day Most of all, I would like to praise the waiter service for being fast, polite and friendly (Hong Kong style😜)

The customer service was very bad . No smiles threw our food on table. Then they charge service charges for bad service . Not pleased at all .

What can I say...My family and I have been coming to this lively place for over 11 years and each and every time it's just simply fabulous!The food,the whole atmosphere is always perfect for us and the Team and Service alway is 10 out 10! Best Chinese restaurant in Milton Keynes. Their roasted duck and mixed fried rice are amazing. Great customer service too. Hence, it's always full, even on weekdays.

This is the 4th visit between post Christmas 23 and 10 Feb 24; previous three visits was for Dim Sum. We went as a group of six for A La Carte dinner. All the dishes were very good except one which was OK, but that was a mixed vegetable dish, so no high expectations anyway. Service was excellent. Food came out orderly with no stopping and starting. Even a late addition was speedily prepared. Staff busy but receptive. Just a hint: You should judge a Chinese Restaurant by the Chinese clientele. If the restaurant isn't up to scratch, they wouldn't return.

We had a meal before going to the Theatre. They do a Theatre deal - 2 choices of a set menu - but you have to ask for it! It's a reasonable price and we've enjoyed it before. However, we immediately became second class citizens. Despite being the first customers and ordering almost immediately, we waited 20 minutes before any food arrived, watching people come in long after us being served and even deliveroo orders being prepared. When the starter arrived it was undercooked and tasteless. The main was better but then we were told it would take 20 minutes to prepare ther desert, do we had ice cream and then left. There are plenty more options of places to eat before the Theatre, so we won't be returning.

Lunch of hot and sour soup, which was excellent, then fried Singaporean vermicelli which was good with lovely plump king prawns. All for 25 quid which I thought was pretty decent value. Service, which I see has been criticised elsewhere, was fine

This is such a mixed bag review and really hope that the owners of this restaurant read this as it is really important for basic customer service. We had a table of 6 booked for 9pm, as much as I know this is late they were very willing to take our booking. We arrived and said that we had a booking and this young woman huffed and puffed at us. I thought there and then this isn’t going to work out too well! She showed us to the table and literally chucked the menus to the middle of the table. We couldn’t be any more of an inconvenience to her. Two of our friends were going to be 10 minutes late and let her know, as you can imagine this went down like a sack of spuds! She said that the rest of us should order and they can order when they arrive. We decided to go with the Hong Kong set menu. Our friends arrived at 21:08 and told them that they can only order a main, no starter. I we were out to celebrate my husband’s birthday so really didn’t want to make a fuss as only felt it would fall on deaf ears. As our friends didn’t want to make a fuss either they just went along with it and she stood over them the whole time until they ordered. Our starters arrived and they are huge portions, so could easily share with our friends that were late, but their main came out at the same time. It was so frustrating. The food is absolutely beautiful, but the service completely spoiled it for us. I am so shocked that we were treated like that. The only reprieve we had was another young waiter and he was really good and made sure that we got drinks throughout the time we were there. We have been to the taipan on many occasions and never had such awful service, it really is such a shame.

Today was my birthday and even other customers were cheering for me! Not to mention, it’s such an infant friendly environment. The servers were super friendly and cracking jokes with us too. The food also was great. Large portions and delicious meals. I highly recommend. It’s now one of my favourites!!!

As always superb food. You are spoilt for choice but if you like seafood then this is the place. It's not the cheapest place to eat but you'll definitely feel it's worth it after you've eaten here.
