Family get together at Taipan was a huge hit for us. The choice of food was great and the service was very efficient, considering how packed they were.

We were a big party and took a while to get to us but once we were going it was spot on. Not many staff but they work like lightening. As for the food, well I must say it was the best Chinese I’ve ever eaten and I’ve been to quite a few. Authentic and excellent ingredients. When you ask for a prawn dish it’s a proper prawn, no tiny shrimp. Fabulous

Had lunch today (11th March) my wife's 70th birthday treat. The food was lovely and the manager was brilliant.

During lunch time, the friendly clerk arranged to wait for about 30 minutes to pick up the tickets. Later, I saw that all the late diners had been seated. A lady also asked why she had a seat when she came later than me but not me? There is room for improvement in food quality. The shrimp dumplings and egg tarts are delicious. The golden tripe tastes bad and is just ordinary beef tripe, not golden tripe. The cured radish cake does not include bacon and is just a radish cake. I may not eat it again because I didn’t eat anything in the morning and had diarrhea twice after lunch.

Celebrated my birthday here today with 11 family members. Waitresses and waitors were very attentive, food was one of the best I've had, came out quickly considering we were a big table. Staff were very polite and made a special effort to interact with the children too which was nice. Thank you for a great meal!

The taste and atmosphere are good, I personally recommend the chicken feet and bean curd rolls 😉 The siomai was a bit over-steamed that day Most of all, I would like to praise the waiter service for being fast, polite and friendly (Hong Kong style😜)

The customer service was very bad . No smiles threw our food on table. Then they charge service charges for bad service . Not pleased at all .

Vegan options were available: albeit not clearly marked. Service was amazingly friendly, making the atmosphere warm and welcoming for a nice lunch break on way up or down the M1.

What can I say...My family and I have been coming to this lively place for over 11 years and each and every time it's just simply fabulous!The food,the whole atmosphere is always perfect for us and the Team and Service alway is 10 out 10! Best Chinese restaurant in Milton Keynes. Their roasted duck and mixed fried rice are amazing. Great customer service too. Hence, it's always full, even on weekdays.

This is the 4th visit between post Christmas 23 and 10 Feb 24; previous three visits was for Dim Sum. We went as a group of six for A La Carte dinner. All the dishes were very good except one which was OK, but that was a mixed vegetable dish, so no high expectations anyway. Service was excellent. Food came out orderly with no stopping and starting. Even a late addition was speedily prepared. Staff busy but receptive. Just a hint: You should judge a Chinese Restaurant by the Chinese clientele. If the restaurant isn't up to scratch, they wouldn't return.

We had a meal before going to the Theatre. They do a Theatre deal - 2 choices of a set menu - but you have to ask for it! It's a reasonable price and we've enjoyed it before. However, we immediately became second class citizens. Despite being the first customers and ordering almost immediately, we waited 20 minutes before any food arrived, watching people come in long after us being served and even deliveroo orders being prepared. When the starter arrived it was undercooked and tasteless. The main was better but then we were told it would take 20 minutes to prepare ther desert, do we had ice cream and then left. There are plenty more options of places to eat before the Theatre, so we won't be returning.

Lovely selection of dishes on the set menu (£28), friendly service and many Chinese customers which is always a good sign.

Lunch of hot and sour soup, which was excellent, then fried Singaporean vermicelli which was good with lovely plump king prawns. All for 25 quid which I thought was pretty decent value. Service, which I see has been criticised elsewhere, was fine

This is such a mixed bag review and really hope that the owners of this restaurant read this as it is really important for basic customer service. We had a table of 6 booked for 9pm, as much as I know this is late they were very willing to take our booking. We arrived and said that we had a booking and this young woman huffed and puffed at us. I thought there and then this isn’t going to work out too well! She showed us to the table and literally chucked the menus to the middle of the table. We couldn’t be any more of an inconvenience to her. Two of our friends were going to be 10 minutes late and let her know, as you can imagine this went down like a sack of spuds! She said that the rest of us should order and they can order when they arrive. We decided to go with the Hong Kong set menu. Our friends arrived at 21:08 and told them that they can only order a main, no starter. I we were out to celebrate my husband’s birthday so really didn’t want to make a fuss as only felt it would fall on deaf ears. As our friends didn’t want to make a fuss either they just went along with it and she stood over them the whole time until they ordered. Our starters arrived and they are huge portions, so could easily share with our friends that were late, but their main came out at the same time. It was so frustrating. The food is absolutely beautiful, but the service completely spoiled it for us. I am so shocked that we were treated like that. The only reprieve we had was another young waiter and he was really good and made sure that we got drinks throughout the time we were there. We have been to the taipan on many occasions and never had such awful service, it really is such a shame.

The only Chinese restaurant with excellent transportation in downtown MK centre hub

Today was my birthday and even other customers were cheering for me! Not to mention, it’s such an infant friendly environment. The servers were super friendly and cracking jokes with us too. The food also was great. Large portions and delicious meals. I highly recommend. It’s now one of my favourites!!!

As always superb food. You are spoilt for choice but if you like seafood then this is the place. It's not the cheapest place to eat but you'll definitely feel it's worth it after you've eaten here.

Very busy for a Sunday lunch. Service was speedy and excellent, food full of flavour and generous portion control. The Taipan has been consistently good over many years and our favourite go to place when celebrating anything within the family. Very busy on New Year's Day but excellent food.

Decent Chinese restaurants are starting to become scarce around our neck of the woods. Plenty of take aways but not so many where you can go and sit down. We decided to take the 25 minute journey to Milton Keynes to try Taipan and it was well worth the trip. Four of us, we had Duck, spring rolls and prawn toast starters which we shared between us. For the mains we had a variety if dishes, but all were excellent. Rice was light and not greasy, all the meat was very tender and well flavoured. My wife had the lamb and onion sizzling platter, I had the beef with pepper and honey, my son had the melting pork belly. As many people have mentioned, the decor is dated, but who cares, I did not go there to look at the walls and the food was well worth the visit. Also, as mentioned by other reviewers, there were a lot of Chinese families and customers, something that gives reassurance that the quality is good. The meal was expensive, four of us worked out at £160 and we did not have a lot in the way of drinks. However, this is in the theatre district and I suspect they have to pay a premium to rent here. Also, you do not mind paying more if you are going to enjoy the food. Service was good, I saw many tables where dishes arrived as they were ready, but ours was served all together. I guess it may depend on if you are sharing or not. The table is set with chopsticks but several diners had requested cutlery and it was not an issue. All in all, I would go again, but due to the price it will not be an everyday occurrence. However, next time we fancy going out to a Chinese restaurant, this is likely to be the place.

今日特意揸車去試一下，點心水準尚可，但服務令人失望，原本想試咗些點心才叫碟炒粉麵飯，因服務感覺確實唔多好，最後食完點心就埋單走人。 上菜速度似快餐，收碟速度似迫人埋單，如果外邊有人群排隊，唔洗你迫我都會自己識做埋單讓返張枱做多轉生意，可是根本無人等位。也許每個人對飲茶或嘆茶嘅定義不同，但站在做生意立場去睇，不如學下鼎泰豐咁講明一小時十五分鐘用膳，明買明賣，一定無投訴。 點都好，想食快餐嘅就可以一試。我本人就無下次了

The food here is delicious! Dim sum is one of the best you can find and their stir-fry is great.

Good food, just a shame for the rude staff. Took my child’s drink off of them upon entering the restaurant, then gave it back once they found out it was empty. Good move buddy.

Tasty fujian fried rice with sauce, steam dim sum was freshly made to order Fried hot food It takes less than 10 minutes arrived after ordered, steaming hot dish take a bit longer 15/20 minutes. Overall is speedy and smooth on services at Saturday noon Been there few times, overall very happy with the quality of food and price. Easy booking, good food, fast service, decent cost.

We were seated immediately upon arrival.Taipan hasn’t change for years. I hope the owner spends some for redecoration, their decor has been like this for 20 odd years . Anyway, the food could have been perfect if not for MSG.Our mouths was still covered by it even after next day. You don’t need this poison as the food doesn’t need it, it just ruins the taste buds of your customers. Please don’t let your waiters stand near the tables so your patrons can eat in peace without being looked at by them. It’s just too much. I wouldn’t be rushing back again.

Efficient service, delicious food, classy ambiance, and great location. I love dining here. A little pricey, but I highly recommend.

Fast and efficient service. Staff couldnt have been more helpful. Even provided a dish that was not on the menu. Topped up cucumber and celery sticks for the duck dish. The food was lovely and tasty. Couldn't eat it all. Would highly recommend and hopefully will return in the future.

Food was great, but a bit expensive.

I order from here quite often and I can't fault the food at all but they need to increase the amount of sauce they give you. My chicken satay for example came with the tiniest tub of satay maybe 15ml worth. It should be drenched in satay

Best Chinese restaurant in Milton Keynes

If you go to a Chinese restaurant and it's almost totally full with Chinese customers, you can be pretty sure the food is good and authentic. So this place ticks all those boxes. Decor wise is a bit bland and dated, but the food makes up for it. We were seated quick and even though the place was very full service was quick and mostly efficient (we had a dish missed and it took some time to finally come). I think no matter what you order your always looking at other tables because the food is quite unique and different looking. And that's the minor issue... its hard to know what your ordering. Its a place you need to go to 2 or 3 times.

Some of the best Chinese cuisine we have encountered. Authentic and refreshing. Totally recommended. We visit here every time we come to Milton Keynes and have not been let down yet.

Amazing authentic chinese food with great service

Regularly visit this place and not once have I been disappointed. Food quality is top notch. Worth checking their menu before you go as there's so much choice. It may seem like each dish is a bit pricy BUT the portions are huge. One starter, one rice and one main is easily enough for 2 people to share and be full so although each dish may seem pricey, for the amount you get it's really very reasonable. The service is also great, always greeted as priority, food comes out quick and the staff are all lovely and professional. Highly reccomend!

So, it's the first time at Taipan. Overall, I liked it. 👍 I'm going to be honest, I think it has the potential to be much better and it wouldn't take much. Don't serve canned drinks and roof temp ones at that, pour it into a glass before service. The atmosphere could be made better with a refresh look and music. There could have been music, I didn't hear it. Prices are a little high also. But apart from these it was a good place to eat.

A lovely place for food with friends

Went for pre-theatre dinner and it was a good choice. The food was very good and service was efficient. We had the pre-show special menu for 2 people and there was lots to eat. We were both hungry but still more than sufficient for 2 people. The quantities could have easily fed three people. Nice, clean decor but the lighting could have been dimmed more to create a better atmosphere. Customer service wasnt great - our soft drinks were served with the can and a glass. A little ice and lemon and poured for us would have been nice given the price of the meal was mid-range. Our compliments on the food were brushed aside. If youre after a good, tasty, speedy, no frills meal this is the place for you.

Great food great service Good price

It was my first time ever! I went there before the MK Theatre which is very close by. Forgot to take pics but me and my partner had a lovely dinner.. we had beef with black pepper and honey sauce, fried brown rice with no onions, spring rolls, sweet and sour king prawns and a bottle of water. Food is delicious, very quick service and nice atmosphere. Stuff very kind! Highly recommended!!!

Regular dim sum joint that’s got the staples and quick service. Weekend is busy and reservation a must.

Very poor quality food, especially considering the high price they charge for it. We had an old guy as our waiter who was just plain rude. Very impatient because we weren’t ready to order when he came to our table. We won’t be going again.

Nothing was bad, but nothing was memorable. Service was good, but for the price we paid (just under £60 for two for mixed hors deouvres and duck, no main dishes) I would want a lot more or a lot better quality. Would've paid similar at the Blue Orchid in Aspley Guise which knocks the socks off this place.

I have been to Taipan many times and the food is good. However, this time it was let down by the service which was slow and ended up having to remind the staff that dishes were missing. The whole place was so busy and really noisy too which didn't make the experience enjoyable.

Very good food good service pre show menu was good value

Overall it's ok. Not the best but not bad. I'd probably go back because it's the only place serving dim sum for miles I think. We ordered salted fish and chicken fried rice that was extremely oily and not seasoned enough. The dim sum was ok. The crispy noodles and hor fun was good.

Food great tests. Service good. But very expensive we went 2 adult 2 kids for dinner. Cost as £170 But excellent food.

We were a large group of 24 people dining and I cannot beginning to say that the service was fantastic especially given it was a saturday night. The food was on point and a large selection for vegertarians. Every guest of mine left super pleased.

Our family enjoyed a large range of dim sum and a la carte at lunchtime. The dim sum - Har Gau, Char Sui Cheung Fan, Cuttlefish Roll, Squid, and Spring Rolls, were superb. The A La Carte dishes were generous portions, and very tasty. Service was good, and the waitress serving our large family was very patient and friendly. I travelled from Leicester to eat here because they do have really good dim sum.

They open at 12 for lunch. Came here at 12:10, and it was already almost full! Service is super quick, within 3isn from ordering out first dish arrived. Dim sum was nice but some dishes were undercooked, cold and unseasoned.

A lot of Hongkongers in there nearly 95%. Service quick and staffs are friendly. A lot of traditional Hong Kong Dim Sum in menu. Good place to have a try if you fancy Chinese food.

I have been here once for dim sum, which was pretty good but I went with friends for dinner recently (we are English and Chinese) and we were all shocked at how bad it was. The service wasn't bad but the quality of most of the dishes was very poor and the portion sizes were really small. We ordered 2 starters to share, 4 mains and 2 rice (bearing in mind none of us eat much and at other Chinese restaurants we go this would be more than enough). We actually had to order 2 more rice and 2 more mains as we finished the small portions so quickly. Even when we left we did not feel full up but we felt we had spent to much we wouldn't order more. But the prices do not reflect the small portions. Some things were so obviously frozen and it felt more like we were eating a chicken nugget than a piece of chicken. 2 dishes we ordered were pretty much the same. I really hate to give this review as I don't mean to harm the business but I really hope the owners will read this and see that you cannot provide poor quality food at extortionate prices and expect people to return, especially during this hard financial time. Please make some positive changes as I would love to be a return customer one day.

I really liked this restaurant! It contains a large range of dim sum and it was incredibly tasty. The staff were also really nice and friendly, they also offered to help anytime which is really kind of them. The food here is really yummy, especially the prawn cheung feng. So a 10/10 for me, would definitely recommend and come back here.

Delicious food! Everything we ordered was tasty and there are really good vegan options with clear labelling on their website menu. The portions are huge so this would be a great place to go for sharing. The restaurant is quite traditional in style and probably not somewhere you would look at and think 'wow, I want to go there' but the food is the main thing so don't overlook it. I personally ordered the tofu and aubergine satay with rice noodles and my husband had the sizzling beef with egg fried rice and we shared the vegetarian platter for a starter. I would recommend all of those dishes

I took my friends from overseas and they were very delighted with this excellent Dim Sum lunch. Everything was very tasty and staff were very kind and professional. Definitely I will visit this place again soon.

This is only our second time at Taipan, but we took our son and his girlfriend to hopefully impress them. We were not disappointed. We ordered off the main menu and made ourselves a magnificent banquet. Everything we ordered lived up to our expectations. The service was attentive for a Saturday evening and we enjoyed all the dishes. We will definitely be coming back - and highly recommend it for honest good Chinese food.

Excellent customer service. Food was delicious, except for our tasteless chicken feet in black bean sauce. Told staff and they said "I'll take it off your bill!" No fuss, No drama. We ALL thoroughly enjoyed the mango pudding, that we don't seem to have in Glasgow. We highly recommend it. We will definitely be back.

The food was very delicious. I recommend the black pepper honey beaf. The service was quick the waiter is always available even though the restaurant was busy.

I used to think this was the best Chinese in MK, but after this experience I no longer think so. None of the food was overly flavoursome, a lot was too oily, and the ma po tofu didn’t taste of anything. They offer vegetarian options but for the price, I definitely wouldn’t come back. There’s better Chinese restaurants in MK for half the price. The special fried rice however, was good.

The best in MK! N up there among the best even with the London or Manchester lot.

Delivery dishes must have same standard with in restaurant ones ! Ordered shreded crisp beef...came out with no beef...just deep fried crisp...coating....which cost me 20£...! Taipan you can do better!

What happened here? This used to be one of my favourite restaurants, however, when we went there last Saturday: the prawns in two of our dishes were off (smelling 'fishy', like something left forgotten in the freezer - I tasted one bit and it was definitely gone past its best). My friends noodles where dry and unappetising. My own sweet & sour pork Hong Kong style, consisted of a few crusty, dry, tasteless bits of floured something, and drizzled with a watery, over sweet and artificial tasting drizzle. Plus we got over £5 added to our bill for compulsory service (I googled it afterwards and this is actually illegal). When I was checking the bill as it looked very expensive for what we had we were hurried by one of the two members of staff who came to collect the payment. It was like the mafia! So this place has gone from a 10 to a 0. No longer the friendly, good food, reasonably priced restaurant it used to be. Never again.
